In a guest post The Microlight Flyer informs us about the very bright prospects of the Jaipur

In a guest post The Microlight Flyer informs us about the very bright prospects of the Jaipur public being able to own and fly their own ultralight crafts for recreation or use in their business in the very near future from the village Pachar near Jaipur.

Autogyro, a 2 seat, rotary wing, multi-utility, light sport aircraft, popular in the U. S., Europe, South Africa and Australia is now all set to be introduced in Indian aircraft market also. Though it resembles a helicopter in having a rotor at the top but in fact it is an aircraft in which the fixed wing is repalced by a rotating wing. Historically speaking, Autogyro even predates the helicopter, as it was invented by Juan de Cierva, a spanish civil engineer in the year 1920.

West Wind Aviation and Services Private Limited, which has joined hands with Microlight Aviation (a consortium of Indo-European Microlight Manufacturers) to manufacture Autogyros at its Microlight Airfield in village Pachar in district Sikar of Rajasthan. The company shall be manufacturing the autogyro under the brand name Super Genie Autogyro. The Company shall also manufacture a four different types of microlights, all of which have tricycle landing gear and low wing monoplane configuration. The Autogyro and the Microlights shall be priced in the range of 35 to 45 lacs depending upon the price and performane of the aircraft.

The company also plans to open up a flying school on the Microlight Airfield so that training for Pilot License (Microlight) can be imparted to the would be purchasers of the microlights. This training school shall be the first of its kind in Asia for imparting training on Autogyros.

The Company plans to display the Super Genie Autogyro and Phantom-MKI, a high performance Microlight at the Hyderabad Air show to be held in October 2008 where demonstration flights would be undertaken in full view of the public.[slideshare id=521010&doc=westwind-aviation-and-services-private-lmited-1216578384203397-8&w=425]

Vibhooti Singh Deora, CEO of the Company says that their first microlight should roll out within three months of the completion of certification process by the DGCA, and probably that shall happen by the beginning of May 2009. According to the Company, marketing for these aircrafts shall not be problem because the prices are almost equivalent to most of the luxury sedans available in India with fuel average even better than those. Therefore looking at the economics of the aircrafts the Indian market is all set to accept them. More than 100 registrations for these microlights have already been done most of which are from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, New Delhi, Lucknow, Nagpur, Chennai, Shirdi and Rajasthan. According to Deora, many people have approached them and inquiries have been pouring in, the response is positive not only due to the low price of aircraft but also because in this way luxury car owners would now be able to fulfill their dream of becoming aircraft owners.

Though the concept is quite new to India but there is a possibility that Autogyros could get a better response in comparison to the microlights. One of the most distinguishing feature of the Super Genie Autogyro is that it is an inherently stable, safe and crash-less aircraft, i.e. even in case of a mid-air engine failure, it would land easily and safely with the help of its auto-rotating main rotor.

The other feature which distinguishes Super Genie from other aircraft is that it can fly as slow as 30 kilometers per hour, a speed at which other aircraft would lose lift, stall and fall to the ground like stones. Though the Super Genie can fly stably and continuously even at a height of just 6 inches above the ground, it can even go upto the height of 10,000 feet.

The Super Genie is 4 meters long, weighs 248 Kg., has a single 100 hp 4-stroke engine in pusher propeller configuration at the back, providing it the thrust required to move in the forward direction. The single non-powered free rotating rotor on the top acts like a rotating wing and provides continuous lift to the Autogyro. Super Genie does not need a runway but just 5 to 10 meters of hard surface or grass for take-off. According to the Company, their Autogyro consumes approximately 13 to 16 liters of MOGAS per hour (not 100LL AVGAS) and with just 60 liters, it can fly 600 kilometers non-stop at a cruising speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

Presently Autogyros are being used in Europe, the U. S., South Africa and Australia for pipeline and canal inspections, forest and highway patrolling, border surveillance, agriculture crop spraying, aerial survey and photography, sports and recreation.

Cast: Conrad Veidt, Werner Krauss, Lil Dagover

Director: Robert Wiene

Genere: horror Produzione: Germania 1920

InVoto: 7

"Devo conoscere ogni cosa. Devo penetrare nel cuore del suo segreto. Devo diventare Caligari"

Buona visione!

So we are moving into a Protestant cycle, out is over indulgence, overspending, and decadence. Instead it is replaced with control, thrift, simplicity. The pressures for this return are the credit crunch, a concern for the environment, a concern for the distribution of resources, a belief that you can't have it all now and pay later. Clothes in Primark cost less than they do in a charity shop. Designer handbags are everyday items. The average wedding costs £20k. When we have over consumed we always welcome a time of abstinence. Though it isn't true abstinence we change our shopping to make us feel cleaner more virtuous.

This return of thrift is seen in many guises, canvas shopping bags, rise of the vintage, rise of the handmade, organic food, free range, local produce, seasonal eating, riding bikes. Freecycle, ebay, alotments, even crochet. The secret is good quality with integrity not artificial low cost. So as we become more thrifty we will see the rise of craft. This is not an unusual cycle we see it again and again before with the Arts and Crafts as a reaction to industrialisation. The 70's followed the 60's with pottery, macrame, handmade clothes, the start of the health food shop.

Enjoy it while you can, eat soup, make jam, knit blankets, buy a wood burning stove, and ride your bike. Remember after abstinence we will return to overindulgence, gluttony, pleasure, decadence just look at the 1920's with the pretty young things and the 1980's with yuppies.

I have heard that my film distribution history is a little long to be a blog, so I am shortening it

I have heard that my film distribution history is a little long to be a blog, so I am shortening it for my readers. Enjoy!

In the 1960’s, Major Studios in desperation started financing independent films and major conglomerates that invested and traded in the studios bought up the studios. A slew of new distribution companies such as American International Pictures, a up and coming production and distribution company, distributed some very popular series of movies, including Roger Corman’s films based on Edgar Allen Poe. American Intl’ Pictures started the genre of marketing films to teenagers. Jack Nicholson, Robert DeNiro and Francis Ford Coppola got their starts with American International.

In the 1960’s as well, John Cassavetes, considered the father of Independent Film, made courageous new works, such as “Faces” and “Shadows” with no help from financial banks, the major studios. He could not get anyone in America to distribute his film in the US, so he received international help. He did not care for pleasing anyone in monetary standards, a true maverick, only himself. In a interview with Ron Carney, a renown and controversial film critic, he says about Cassevetes films, they were about “change and process” they were about staying free and avoiding being limited by social rules or arrangements”. Carney says the master plot of all his work was to expose fraudulence and self-delusion. His stories weren’t about plot or about events like many movies to date but Cassavetes films “were about character”. (Carney, 2002)

Cassavettes was recognized as a spiritual father of independent filmmaking and although he wasn’t extremely successful because of lack of budgets to distribute his films, he impacted many other filmmakers and they could distribute their movies easier because they had a new niche in the market. By the early 1970’s, Blaxploitation film genres became popular with a commercially successful film by Melvin Van Peebles “Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song.” Many notable indie filmmakers at the time that featured blaxploitation were Gordon Parks, William Crain and William Levy.

In 1975, the movie world would be changed forever and be a great blow to indie filmmakers that wanted to show their movies in theatres. Steven Spielberg created “Jaws” that caused courageous comeback by the Majors, started the rise of the Blockbuster movie and the rise of saturation marketing. George Lucas started the auxiliary market by betting his toys from his Star Wars trilogy would fund his movies. The studios had no idea of this profitable and lucrative auxiliary market of toys and licensing could be of such benefit to a filmmaker. At this moment of time, the budget of marketing for this film was the greatest amount of money ever spent on a film.
