In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

From the signs of happiness and joy is that whenever a worshipper increases in knowledge, his humbleness and mercy increases. Whenever he increases in acts of worship, his fear and caution increases. Whenever he increases in age, his greed decreases. Whenever he increases in wealth, his generosity and spending increases. And whenever he increases in status and position, his nearness to the people increases as does his fulfilling their needs and being humble with them.

And from the signs of misery is that whenever a worshipper increases in knowledge, his pride and arrogance increases. Whenever he increases in acts of worship, his bragging increases as does his belittling of people while always giving himself the benefit of the doubt. And whenever he increases in status and position, his arrogance and ego increases.

All of these things are trials from Allaah and a test by which He tests His servants, and because of them, some people attain happiness and others become miserable.

Similarly, some things people honor and admire are also trials like possessions, authority, and wealth. Allaah says about His prophet, Sulaymaan, when he saw the throne of Bilqees in front of him :

This is from the favor of My Lord to test me whether I will be grateful or ungrateful. [Surah An-Naml, 27:40]

So, blessings are tests from Allaah that make apparent the gratitude of the grateful, and the ingratitude of the ungrateful. In the same way, hardhips are also trials from Him (SWT) ; He tests by way of blessings and hardships.

Allaah says:

And as for man, when his Lord tests him and is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me!" But when He tests him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me!"[Surah Al-Fajr, 89:15-16]

Compared wth several other Arab countries, Egypt has a varied and robust press. Almost every day, no

Compared wth several other Arab countries, Egypt has a varied and robust press. Almost every day, not least in the independent and English-language newspapers, one sees articles highlighting human rights abuses (notably torture and extortion/bribery at the hands of police) or criticisms of the way that the Emergency Law -- in place for the last 27 years! -- gives the president the right to arrest and detain inidividuals without abiding by basic guarantees enshrined in the constitution. But behind the superficial impression of freedom of expression lies a much more complex reality.

For one thing, journalists are sometimes subject to detention or assault and there are 'red lines' which anyone working in the mainstream media knows (s)he must not cross, notably not mentioning the elephant in the room: namely, what will happen when the 80-year-old President Mubarak dies or is incapacitated or decides to retire. With each month that passes, this is a matter of growing concern, not least because many people fear that there is no viable political alternative. Uneasy at the prospect of a hereditary succession by Mubarak's son, Gamal, they see either a surge by the Islamists (who have 88 members of parliament, sitting as independents), or a military takeover once again.

The increasingly vibrant blogging scene in Egypt shows that many young people, in particular, have very little confidence in politicians, whatever their party. It's in the blogs that one finds some of the most trenchant analysis of the current situation, as well as the reporting of events which might not otherwise get accurately recorded. One brave journalist, Kamal Murad, notably collaborated with bloggers to produce evidence that led the a policeman guilty of torture being brought to justice. But for his efforts, Mr Murad, of the opposition newspaper Al-Fajr, was reportedly subsequently physically and verbally assaulted by three policemen in a revenge attack, had his mobile phone memory card (including pictures of police beting peasant farmers) and notes confiscated, and was then charged with attacking police officers. He was later released, but his material was retained.

The Moroccan Minister of Social Welfare Nezha Squalli is taking off her politically-correct face

The Moroccan Minister of Social Welfare Nezha Squalli is taking off her politically-correct face and unveiling her hardcore communist face. In fact Nezha Squalli shamelessly asked for the banishment of the call for prayer of Al Fajr, because she claims that it is disturbing the wellbeing of the foreign tourists during their exotic staying in Morocco.

Well, I would just remind Madame Squalli, that she belongs to a government of an Islamic country and she is “for the moment” the Minister of Amir Al Mu’minin the Prince of the Faithful. Therefore, asking the Minister of Islamic Affairs Ahmed Ataoufik to find a legal way to ban the call of prayer not to disturb tourists is an insult to the high symbols of this nation. Furthermore, the tourists coming to Morocco are supposed to respect the local customs, as Moroccans would do for the Bell rings in Christian countries.

Maybe the Minister, who was a militant of the Moroccan Communist Party, still believes deep-inside that “Religion is the Opium of the People”. Yet, the outrageous thing about this story is that the PPS, the Party of Progress and Socialism is defending their Minister and calling the Press to stop judging Nezha Squalli. For their pat the Islamist movements inside Morocco as well as the more traditionalist streams of the Moroccan Civil Society are calling the Minister to submit her resignation as soon as possible, because she don’t represent the Moroccan population.

From My side I would kindly advice our dear Minister to look to her face in the mirror and ask herself who is she? Since, if a Minister in the government of his Majesty still struggles with her religious identity how can she be an example for the rising generations?

I went to Faisal Masjid on Friday evening with a friend for Maghrib prayers. It was slightly drizzli

I went to Faisal Masjid on Friday evening with a friend for Maghrib prayers. It was slightly drizzling when we got there and in the middle of the prayer, it started raining pretty hard plus it was winnndy...so we froze on our way out lol. It was a long, feet-numbing walk to the shoe rack. It was the first time I went after Ramadan...felt good. The Imam, in both rakahs, recited verses that usually make me cry - last verses of Surah al-Qiyamah and last verses of Surah al-Fajr. It was beautiful

my favorite verses: 27 - 30 from Fajr:
( يَـٰٓأَيَّتُہَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَٮِٕنَّةُ (٢٧) ٱرۡجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً۬ مَّرۡضِيَّةً۬ (٢٨) فَٱدۡخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى (٢٩) وَٱدۡخُلِى جَنَّتِى (٣٠

(To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!
"Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!
So enter among My servants,
And enter into My Garden
