I sure hope that JJ in support also set up "a wildcard ServerAlias entry" like it says to ask for in the wiki. JJ's email only mentioned the wildcard DNS entry. We'll see if that ends up being a problem.

I have yet to create a new user account to see if the subdomain.bevvy.org gets created automagically. Right now I am looking into anti-spam plugins for WPMU. There's Askimet and Dave's Spam Karma. I have seen mentions of activating the backend and leaving it deactivated. The activation of the backend, I assume would allow the plugin settings to be passed through to each blog user's blog. I'm all for giving options but sometimes less choice makes for a smoother operation.

I will also be installing some sort of CAPTCHA for WPMU. I have to be mindful that any plugin I hear about must have a WPMU counterpart. If not, things will break.

One thing I am unclear about at this point is how I enable people to sign up and begin creating their own blog/user page from an index page. Requiring Admin approval is a good safe guard. Right now the only "new user" creation option is in the Site Admin section of the Administrator's account. I want one front and center on the main page. Perhaps it is also a plugin.

Update I: I have been able to create two new blogs on the site. One for me and one for viscousplatypus. The Edit for the profile does not appear to be working. One can post to the blog and change personal blog settings but that is about it.

Inzwischen wurde Wordpress.com auf die aktuelle Version 2.5 upgedated. Die Änderungen merkt man nur im Backend, dem sog. Dashboard. Das erste was auffällt ist, das sich das Design ändert hat. Nicht viel, man findet sich zurecht, aber optisch gefiel mir das alte Dashboard besser.

Funktionell hat sich aber IMHO einiges zum Positiven geändert. Unter anderem wurde der Editor geändert.

Außerdem ist mir aufgefallen, dass Askimet installiert ist und auch schon Spams aus den Kommentaren gefiltert hat. Ist das neu oder habe ich Askimet vorher nur nicht bemerkt?

Dieser Trackback zu meinem letzten Posting mit dem Nachfolger der DVD wurde von Askimet als Spam aufgefasst, ich löschte ihn dementsprechend. Was mich aber verwundert ist, das dieser Blogeintrag bei der Autorangabe etwas sehr seltsames schrieb, habe ich irgendwo komische Informationen hinterlegt? Mit Wrestling habe ich jedenfalls nichts zu tun.

Wer sich folgendes erklären kann, der antworte mir doch bitte. Der artikel bezieht sich auf jedenfall auch mich!

Zu diesem Eintrag erhielt ich jetzt auch wieder selbigen Trackback. Findet dieser Contentwiederholer etwa die Tags und integriert deshalb die Threads. Warum askimet das als Spam auffast kann ich nicht genau sagen, auch nicht pb es richtig ist. Aber wie vorvorgestern in dem Post seo solution: Link is on penalized page schon gesagt, könnte das auch zu einer solchen Verlinkungsart führen. Ich werde mal schauen ob das positiver oder negativer Einfluss ist, und nottfalls mich bemühen diese Artikel entfernt zu bekommen!

Askimet does an amazing job filtering the crap out of your comments box. The service is free and comes as a default on Wordpress.com. It works in the background, quietly making sure that only real, live human beings get a chance to have their say on what you post.

But sometimes it works too well. Sometimes a real comment from a real reader gets thrown into the spam dump. That's why it pays to take a look in there once in a while to see what Askimet has been up to.

It doesn't happen that often, but if you do see a real comment has been accidently put in the spam queue, simply check the Not Spam box at bottom left of the comment, then click De-spam marked comments at the bottom of the page. The comment will then re-appear on the post where it belongs. Feeling a little like covered in scum after hanging around in that dreck, but at least it doesn't stay there forever.

But in the interest of fairness and equal time to those whose only contribution to the Internet is to gum it up with worthless shit, I have pulled out some of the more remarkable little spam-turds gleaned over the past few months of comment rescue operations.

Mr Chin of peek-show.cn.sexy-mature-movie tells me: Great site! I will bookmark for my sons to view as well!!! which makes me wonder what he's already been showing his boys.

Someone who's probably can has-ing too much Cheezburgr tells me: I is pleasantly amazed! Thank!!! while Britney at pussy-movies.cn/hardcore-shemale writes: Wow!!! Good job. Could I take some of yours triks to build my own site? Britney: trust me, your triks are already legendary; could I learn from you?

Stuff like This site is really superb!!! Thank you for you work! Good Luck2 are getting to be as common as news of the real Britney getting hauled off to hospital, but sometimes something original does pop up.

I'm mostly mad that Askimet thinks it's funny to mess with Chow Yun Fat's name like that.  

What is wrong with you Askimet?

The only thing that makes sense is Askimet knowing I'd like to know more about chubby lesbians.

On a side note, I've been thinking about taking my Digg info (submissions and diggs) and my Flickr pictures out of my FeedBurner feed. After all, if anyone wants those they can subscribe to my Tumblr feed or my Flickr/Digg feed individually. Of course, I'm not going to make a decision right now; I want to know what the people that are currently subscribed to my feed think.
So, everyone currently subscribed to my FeedBurner Feed (so, three of you), what do you think? Would you rather that the feed only contained my blog posts? Or are you only subscribed to my FeedBurner feed because you think the default feed for my blog is boring without my Digg and Flickr feeds? Tell me what you want done and it shall be done.

In any case, Askimet caught two blogs that had linked to my blog.  I have no problem with this if it's a legitimate blog with a real person who has their own posts and is referring to one of my posts as a way of enhancing their post or whatever.  However, it made me angry to see my post referenced on a blog that has not one original post and no information about the "owner" of the blog.  It does, however, have Google ads.

It is clear to me that the sole purpose of said blog it to use other people's posts in order to make money selling ad space on their so called "blog".  What the hell kind of lazy does it take?

 When I read the post about it at Suburban Oblivion and the comments, I honestly thought, "Well, so it's just another link to your site so who cares?  Free blog traffic, right?"  Yeah...not so thrilled with it now that I've seen it.  I don't even sell ads on my own blog and it kind of pisses me off that someone else is making money off my post (along with hundreds of other people's posts). 

It seems to me that Google would be more discerning about what blogs they pay to advertise on.  I will sure as heck never pay Google to advertise for me, now that I have seen where the ads wind up.  What a waste of money for the advertisers.  Shame on you, Google.  I have removed your toolbar.
