Cela me paraît potentiellement dangereux.

Just noting some recent happenings.

1. spent an inordinately large amount of time wasting rather being an escapist from studies!!

2. traced the family tree from my father's side upto 1850! and found some hand written documents dating back to around partition time of my grand father! some in urdu! mostly belonging to government service and before that i.e. 1700's - dry fruits trade in kashmir and afghanistan! this is the only worthwhile thing i did this month. Surprising my grandmother's father was a sardar/sikh - they were Shah's - rulers of many villages and lands!

3. really had lots of fun covering indian idol and worldcup in the last week, however its time to pack bags for the trek to the mountains and well i'll be back before the end of the year! and will keep posting on anf off if possible!!

Cheers!

the mains form is here and i guess it will be with you all very soon if it isnt already there. i'm having some last minute jitters filling up the services could some of you kindly give your opinions on what i've written below...

ifs - because of navtej sarna, nirupama rao, arundhati ghose - I want to be
in their shoes someday!! early career is great you get to learn new
languages interact with new people visit distant capitals. there is greater
camaraderie amongst batch mates because of a small batch size. time for
intellectual blogging. good exposure and opportunity for personal growth.
usually the best working environment which govt can provide. organising
cultural programs. I enjoy going to the india habitat centre often and
organising the same abroad will be great e.g. dance music. you don't get
thrown away to distant villages and states. your cadre doesn't become a
reason for one to contemplate leaving the job.

later in career too one could possibly join rajya sabha or like our new VP
mr. ansari hope to reach a titular office of grandeur.!

ias - because the tag is easily recognised by one and all. it reverberates
through peoples head as someone not to be messed with. minor irritants in
life get sorted out easily. how far is it true for ifs? however early in
career to be thrown amongst the villagers in an office which is a leaky road
side shack wouldn't be a great thing. ass licking your way up the postings
and promotions ladder for getting anything worthwhile. I believe right now
im comfortably placed in new delhi, with ias, delhi itself would become a
luxury destination. why demote myself in life? but then top 45 ranks without
an aberration have picked IAS in 2006! maybe I missed some point? or maybe
they are all way too inspired to help the down trodden.?

policy formulation quite interesting but implementation is only - alright.
preparing answers for parliament more clerical sort of work in my opinion.

messing around with goons of politicians when polling has gone wrong and
I've to order a repoll would be dangerous for the family. staying in states
I will get a meagre Rs. 15 per month for children education. it would be
much better putting them in british school or american school via ifs.

what use is the intelligence and energy which I will bring to the government
if integrity itself will be battered and will force me to kill my ideals or
get out to save my skin!

later in the career one could again join rajya sabha or join politics e.g.
yashwant sinha, jaswant singh, manmohan singh and so on..

I believe there is some restriction imposed by mea against interacting with
certain people when on a mission abroad. is that true?

eventually I reasoned it will be luck if I got in top 50! so why not put ias
on top, ifs has a greater chance to come anyway! and would I be leading a
frivolous/fake life in ifs for the work profile available?
e.g. in the nuke deal what couldn't be sorted out by the diplomats was
eventually sorted out by ias and technocrats. so will I only be a curious
traveller and a drama organiser in ifs at the end of it?

how difficult is it for an ias officer to go abroad... my neighbours just
returned from a 3 year posting to washington, he is from the 1979 ias batch
but he seems to have some major links as he was in delhi 10 years prior to
that and has now shifted his madhya pradesh office to MP bhawan in new delhi
and will stay here till his retirement! this is just an exceptionally well
connected case. what is the usual life..

I hope I can get this sorted out and be sure about things help will be
appreciated :)

noting the recent happenings in life.

1. After the sad demise of our beloved masi on 5th aug we are trying to move on with life.

2. l.i.c. result was negative. skipped SSC papers.

3. CSP 2007 result was positive. 9,265/340,000 aspirants now move on to the next level before the final interview. expected ratio of success from here on is 1/3 for general category males and 1/6 all inclusive to reach interview.

4. Uninstalled Vista and Server 2008. Back to XP. XPSP3 3180 build is out. No more wasting time with computers.

5. Getting a balcony constructed besides the bedroom.

6. Time to get down to some serious slogging with CSM 2007 with the same fervour which i had for CSP. consequently the posts here will be few and far between now and end of Civils.

7. Moving ahead with studies with the hope that no more distractions and obstacles obstruct my path of studies for a few months. Seek blessings from divine mother and mother nature and all the positive energies to cocoon and re energize me and my support structures for the tough battle ahead. For this will determine if i can serve the 3rd mother - mother india and its people as a bureaucrat.

10 weeks and 9 papers to handle. So then here we go!

Cheers

See ya around!

As long as women stay on top, India stays on top. When men get on top, India goes down. Wondering what a female chauvinistic pig i am ? a traitor to the men folk ?

Not really, this only refers to the kamasutric sexual position which can help bring down the population of a country where an average woman produces more than 3 kids in her life time.

Interestingly, it is not only the Biology class in School which brings smirks on the faces of students. In fact even economics class does so when it mentions the causes of population rise in India as Sex being a Rural Recreation.

Today 158.4 million people in India live in urban slums and 234 million in all are below the poverty line. Worldwide 2007 is the watershed year which will be remembered in the coming times when the urban population exceeded the rural population. This mass exodus won't only result in Mega cities such as NY or Tokyo or Mumbai but also shrinking cities right from San francisco to Detroit to Leipzig to Ivanovo to Bangkok and Banjul eventually causing their extinction.

Today ignoring the poor and slum dwellers in the battle against population can spell the death knell for mega cities in the 22nd century. By any means, whatsoever as humane in a way as possible population increase must be curbed.

Sonia Gandhi in a speech in Netherlands recently commented that, "Only Centrist politics works in India due the the diversity present in the nation". Madam, have you wondered what will happen when the 1971 population census will cease to operate, for the purpose of determining Parliamentary representation of states, and the next census at 2026 will be adopted? The southern states controlling their population very well will have diminished representation in the Parliament in the wake of the fact that North Indian BIMARU states of UP, MP, Bihar and Rajasthan will have the majority say in running the country, simply because they failed to control their populations.

Yes of course why will the South want to stick to India as it is? It will want a partition. India as we know it won't exist anymore. Also, why southern states might want to split is the drying up of Fresh Water sources in North India owing to Global warming by 2030 but that is outside the scope of this post.

The time is gone when Indira Gandhi imposed high handed and inane measures which kept future parties from touching the population issue with a 20 foot pole. The public has forgotten those times.

The need of today is tightening the population control measures even if they sound absurd as long as they work! Out of the box thinking is the need of the hour and not romping on the box!

Women on top, Sonia Gandhi and Pratibha Patil are you listening? The balls are in your court.

I've had an excellent run in last 2 weeks of philosophical yearning churning and formulating silhouettes on topics close to my heart since school days. These are spirituality, time travel, parapsychology, psychokinesis, quantum metaphysics, universal life philosophy and styles of decision making. Specially Jyotish thrown in this time around in the potpourri of stimulating vivid. Anyhow i taught myself to make Birth Charts and read Dasas, planets, yogas, meanings of planets in different houses, main charts d1/d6/d9/d10. Skepticism will remain but my career path was confirmed by my own analysis of my horoscope i.e. law commerce and governance. All thanks to google.

It's eventually time to say goodbye to the extended breaks and return to the preparation for mains from tomorrow. I've managed to collect the right material to a large extent and been consistently making notes from newspapers. No let up on that front. However the real studying starts now.

Let's hope i keep to the schedule 50-60% of the time for now and move it up to 90% near exam time. No set targets but i will be going fast.

It's interesting though the CDSE interview i had skipped, have been called again for another interview on July 6th. That program will take at least two weeks in Bhopal. However, my AAO interview is on 11th so just wrote for postponing the interview yet again. Speaks volumes about the state of Indian Army and not to mention my commitment to the Army :P

Anyhow mom will be undergoing a surgery in the 2nd half of the month so will be taken up on various fronts in the coming few weeks. Will continue writing the blog but probably not as often as in the last few days and certainly not on the esoteric subjects.

So adios bloggieboy.

What is what and what is why? why is what and why is why?

Which of the above two question makes grammatical sense as it is ? It's quite obvious the former question.

It is stated most often in this world that he who goes to the root cause is the one who can deal best with the issue. At other times it is said not he who asks 'what' but he who asks 'why' is miles ahead. Let's take a simple example to prove the importance of what if not its superiority.

Suppose an IPS/IAS officer faces trouble with a mob vandalizing his district. He comes to the scene and tries to take a note of what happened.

The "What" route.

Q1 What happened?

Q2 What is to be done?

Q3 What does the rule book say?

Q4 What does the senior say?

Q5 What does common sense say?

Finally apply the solution and the situation is resolved.

The "Why" route.

Q1 Why did it happen?

Q2 Why was this not averted?

Then if the person in charge is smart he takes the 'What' route and otherwise he gets bogged down by the reformist stand. In case he continues the 'why' approach eventually he will fail at serving the system sooner than later.

'Why' is a right wing reformist word associated with reformers, researchers and academicians. Not with people who have to be spontaneous fast and effective and have to perform on the spur of the moment.

So which approach is superior? In my opinion proclaiming the superiority of one approach over the other is initially, on the face of it for "what" approach. However realistically all answers to "what" questions have to be answered with "whys" and only then the next step follows.

Both questions beautifully complement each other, without one assisting the other most mysteries of this world would have remained unresolved today.

Been a while since i updated this !! just too lazy since Pre got over. Been idling around playing pool at Satnik (that's Satya Niketan market opposite my college Venky for the uninitiated.)

Just been having fun since Pre ended. Went out on a nice date and sweet dinner at Pandara Road. Yesterday one of my friends got into mess with some high profile Goons and was running out of his house in Pyjamas at 3AM when one of the Psycho goon threatened to land up at his house and actually did. Hilarious! but only in after thought. Well he is leaving for Ph.D in Comp Sci to Iowa State university. Should have good fun. Will return in 4 years to be a prof back in IITD.

So well how did my Pre go? Hmm.. GS was not bad at all. Optional was quite demanding. It's no point sitting down and checking the answers though. Most keys are wrong on the internet (or my answers) and either way Pre is history now. Looking forward at mains and that will be from Monday onwards.

I have Zilch idea about Public Administration for mains will have to speed up the studies. Especially since i don't really like coaching and don't take it either.

Oh yes, i've got the LIC AAO interview call for 11th July and cleared SSC Pre too. Let's see what's in store.

Just too lazy to add more or call it spiritual as per Asthavarka Gita! ;)

The first law paper got over today! The law of Evidence! yessir 2 nights with only 2 hours of sleep! and i'm yet to sleep! but what the hell i thought i'd pen down my thoughts before proceeding further

This is almost like Captains Log of star trek! That makes more sense as well!

So well todays paper went off without any major botheration and now i can do away with giving any more papers for the current semester 2. However in the interest of safety i will give one on 11th May thats PIL. Public International Law. I hope that is the fullform. Yeah i'm that bad with my subects hehe.

Well it's just that i can't afford to break my civils preparation for entire blocks of 2-3 days anymore so will be putting in and hour a day for PIL and hopefully be gungho for Prelims too.

Today i just noticed two people who had previously cleared prelims. Both guys have majority of preparation ahead of them. In that respect i'm better off. Fingers crossed i hope i can pull it off this time.

Aiming for a 60+ in GS and 75+ in optional commerce. Yeah low, very low. No one agrees, but that's what i suspect it will be.

Things at home look fine touchwood, mom's been elected treasurer and has got some work on her hands! Just the right kind. congrats to her. The out going general secy. deserves a brief mention for her erratic and immature behaviour of first relinquishing the post then crying like a child for lollipop.

Just got up watching pinjar movie on zoom tv with mom 9pm-12am - good experience with hardly any ad

Just got up watching pinjar movie on zoom tv with mom 9pm-12am - good experience with hardly any ad breaks!

This movie is what i saw with mom and dad at the IFFI held in Sri Fort in 2003 or 2004. Urmila matondkar had flown to Delhi for the screening before the release. She was in a white saree, gorgeous lady. Kareena kapoor had lit the lamp in a pink chiffon sari, not bad compared to Urmila. LK advani was there as well and BJP was in power at that time.

Quite a spectacle it was. Pinjar started.. it took us back in time to pre independence, dad being overly emotional as always weptthrough the movie. It got a bit violent, emotional and boring and we left midway. However, in my heart i wanted to see this movie again. Full. Today i got the opportunity and i did sit through it all at the cost of completing Company Law - 3 hrs there or here.

Why did i chose Pinjar? This movie is one lesson in history which every IAS officer and aspirants too should definately have.

In the 30 minutes while i was having dinner and thinking over whether to watch the movie or go and study my mother came in and said "this is something you should see for the culture portryaed in it", - made sense. Though i was still undecided. Then she said this will help you with the IAS exam as well. Ahaa, a co incidence? or how did she know i was thinking about that? So now should i let these two suggestions go down the drain as a true rationalist or should i accept them not as co incidence but an answer from the higher conscious that watching the movie would be in my best interest at that point in time?

I did not think more and sat down to enjoy the three hours of the movie with mom while dad slept in his room.

Coming to the title of this topic - purpose of life - how many times have we pondered on these questions. Not only you and me but many noble men and women.

I've pondered over this as well and the answer is not that hard. All we need are open eyes and ears and open acceptance to "signs" which indicate what our next actions should be in life. Both at the micro and macro level. As long as we try to over think and try to fit everything in the realm of rationality things just go on snowballing into more and more complex set of choices.

If one sits down to think of the purpose then that's quite difficult in one go. Let's take it step by step. For example, a sniffer dog used by a police man. neither the police man nor the dog know what the catch might look like but the dog sniffs on and finally reaches it's destination.Pure logic and rationality, forgive me, is like a sniffer dog with a cold, it shuts down your ability to sense the purpose in your life. It closes your intuitive ability to accept the indications in your environment to make the best choices (refer the autonomous inputs from mom without a word from me to watch the movie).

For decisions that really matter, keep yourself open to these signs from the higher consciousness in your life over a period of time, say a few days or weeks. Think over the indications, with practise you will learn to spot the pattern and the indication.

It makes life much simpler than hardcore rationality, spirituality, religious discourses etc. etc.

Try this game of treasure hunt like a sniffer dog and life will surely reveal it's purpose to you. Just enjoy the ride with a smile. Do not resist.

Ah before i forget today March 28 2007 we completed 1 year at GK1 our new address. Thanks to mom for the reminder. On the occassion she recalled how neighbours here tried to subdue us by categorising us as new comers.!

How useless can some people get it bellies all imagination and logic for triffle things in life. Is this what india is all about? Anyway coming back to the issue my mom made a valid observation. If these people do declare themselves to be seniors then why not help the new comers rather than just throw their weight around.

But no siree this is India and glad we didn't care two hoots about such nonsense since the start since my parents were the original allottees to this house! much before them precisely 22 years!

Few days back i asked my father if at we should be subdued by society under any circumstances. Quick reply "Why? There is no reason to be". Food for thought! Never bend for if you do vultures are living next door.

Another interesting discover today, old papers of my father, where i saw my grand father's signature a PUDC (Permanent Upper Division Clerk) during the British Raj pre independence. Excellent english usage, i wonder if today's IAS officers could even match those standards. Feeling quite satisfied with my heritage! hehe! The legacy must continue. I hope not to stop it.

Lastly, today i was exploring www.archives.org and found references to my long lost award winning homepage on talkcity which i had made when 13-14. It contained some travelogues of our trip to nainital from school, an exhilarating one at that and fan pages for Shania Twain, Michael Jordan and Savage Garden!. Wish i could get it back! The URL was http://home.talkcity.com/AsIfLn/teenageMNT_Jordan14m later shifted to http://home.talkcity.com/CramPl/inxra

That was that!! having too much free time. now back to books for another week till then cheers! :)

Ok so it's been ten days since my first post on this blog. I'd like to mention here that i've got the SSB interview call for IMA Dehradun but i've been advised against attending it incase it interferes with my IAS aspirations.

My main purpose of giving the CDSE(II)-2006 exam was to have an experience of interview with the panel before IAS interview itself. Secondly it's a paper set by UPSC similar to Prelims paper of CSP - one can keep track of the mind of examiners this way.

However, now the interview is scheduled for April 14th and i can't attend it! Too close to CSP and law exams starting from 27th April.

An entry to IMA will ensure a good but risky life ahead. Same pay package as IAS or slightly better and much better perks, bigger houses earlier in life, more orderlies etc.

I'm leaving this in hope for a better future in IAS. After college i had an offer from HSBC at approximately Rs. 50,000 per month however i declined that. The cost of IAS exam is going through the roof after declining the IMA call letter as well.

I better get through prelims now and pull up my socks. For this reason i have decided to drop CA exams scheduled for May. Did some cost-benefit analysis and CA groupI just doesnt match upto the value of clearing Pre.

Beg to digress but recently i was at JNU and met Prabharan a PhD from JNU itself. It was shocking to hear that hosteliers tease their peers who study late at night. Quite ridiculous. It motivated me since i have all the facilities available and not many negatives hampering studies.

Now my eyes are on Prelims and Law papers of 27th/1st and maybe 4th if required. So well there it is. I'm spending around 5 hours a day now need to take that upto 10 hrs atleast on average till the exam day.

when its night time i feel sleepy and sleep by 12AM and when it morning i read the newspaper and pass time till lunch at 2PM. Then tea till 3:30 PM and then it's college time by 5PM and home by 8:30 PM then dinner by 10PM and yet again the cycle continues. Need to break out of it. From now on ill sleep at 12AM and wake up at 5AM. I remember having done this 2 weeks back for a day for Polity GS and finished it same day! more than a 1000 MCQs. So taking a leaf from the past experience 12AM - 5AM schedule will be it!

So well thats about the details so far. Helps clear my head as well.

Sayonara stay tuned for further updates! :)

Not long since my last post. There was a hailstorm just a while back which prompted me to pen down my feelings for it.

Everytime there is rain three to four scenes flash across in front of me from my past. One in a colony called Pragati Vihar near JN Stadium in ND wher ei spent my first five years of life. On a cloudy afternoon jumping upwards to catch branches of a flowering tree and rain splashing on the face. Running the hands in mud with one particular friend i forget who. Bliss totally.

Second very recently when we moved into GK1 our own house after the retirement of my father. At night, howling wind and dark and wet night, water seeping through fresh construction, dad lying in the bedroom in ill health. It's been a year we've come some distance.

The most happy scene of was in RK Puram playing in front of our house in the huge dry field with small patches of grass bordering Ring Road. The sky a dusty lilac and puffy cotton clouds dribbling into each other. Soon the sky turns a pale orange and a dust storm starts blowing dust ferociously into me and a friend which stings. We start walking against the wind our weight just enough to keep us from being blown down. Feels like the last men standing on the planet with scarce population! Soon the winds bring in rain and drench us completely. At the same time the sun peeks in from somewhere cascading its light on shrubbery on our side making it shine as if god's own home. A wide smile splattered across our face we jump up and down in puddles, the smell of the wet earth seeping deep inside - We are the kings of the world - the last surviving men - Just him and I.

Finally today a hailstorm, the beauty of the cold stones clattering on the window sills and landing in our balcony garden excited me like a kid. I picked some and handed it in my dad's hand. He was about to eat it when i stopped him. The fun!

The fun these moments bring. Why though do i mention these moments? It started with the dark night when i resolved to be an IAS, to restore the dignity, honour, facilities et al which the tags had bestowed on my family and me since my birth thanks to my father.

that night i rummaged through my most beautiful memories of rain and associated them from the root with my future career. A career decision was made which i couldnt make previously despite many thought going in it.

I'm proud of my career choice and hope to see it through, every rain reminds me of my goal - to once again play in the mud and be the hero i imagined myself to be back then - to live it up again.

while i focus my energies on preparation i hope the cotton clouds and the puddles and the streak of sun light conspire to bring me back the moments of joy and bring back the tranquility of the times gone by.

IAS i'm knowcking at your playful doors. Open Sesame.

So far so good with the preparation but the time to pull up the socks for pre 07 has arrived. It is co inciding with my first blog entry, infact it is no co incidence.
