Desde da reunião de imprensa realizada pela Apple para comunicarmos os resultados financeiros do último trimestre, não parou de surgir rumores a partir do que disse Peter Oppenheimer e companhia na entrevista, já que parece muito suspeito que Apple sacrifique parte de seus lucros para destina-los em uma nova transição

O primeiro rumor consiste no lançamento do iPod nano de quarta geração, que adotaria a tecnologia multitouch além de sair em modelos com várias cores. Não nos confundamos: Isso não quer dizer que sairiam modelos de cores diferentes, mas que apareceriam novos modelos, cada um deles composto por várias cores. Um exemplo poderia ser o iPod nano da imagem, modificado por seu dono.

Outro rumor é que Apple poderia lançar um computador por menos de US$ 1000. Gene Munster, um analista norteamericano, declarou que "existe uns 80% de propabilidades de que Apple lance um MacBook e um MacBook Pro redesenhados, o primeiro a 999 dólares e o segundo a US$ 1799". Este rumor também junta-se com a possibilidade de um "Tablet Mac", o de um computador de baixo custo, como é o Asus EEE.

Gene também comentou que espera "novos iPods com tela multitouch mais baratos", e que "Apple, devido a crise econômica, está tornando-se mais agressiva com seus preços, reduzindo-os, apesar de manter-se caros para o mercado".

Definitivamente, Apple tem alguma surpresa preparada para antes de outubro, seja na forma de uma série de iPods renovados ou com o redesenho dos portáteis da companhia.

Inserite la pennetta Flash USB (formattata) e fate partire Creator( il file zip scaricato e unzippato contiene una cartella con un eseguibile ) , su "Use existing cd live" ----> browse su dove avete salvato il file ISO di eebuntu :

ed indicate la lettera della vostra pennetta h: ( o b: o d: o qualunque  sia ), e' il momento di  creare----->  Create Live USB:

Una volta finita la procedura accendete il Vostro Asus eee e cambiate la procedura di avvio ( F2) perche' avvenga la scelta del boot device, spegnetelo inserite la chiavetta USb e riaccendetelo scegliendo la procedura di caricamento da usb pendrive ( nome della votra marca di pendrive) attendete e avrete presto sul vostro piccolino una distro eebuntu live perfettamente funzionante.

Se volete renderla permamente non vi resta che utilizzare la procedura install sul desktop live in italiano, io grossi problemi non ne ho trovati tranne il reset a 0 dell'audio ogni volta si riaccende la macchina ed ancora l'imperfetto funzionamento di alcuni tasti F1 - F2 ect.

Grymma priser på tele2! Ingen månadsavgift året ut!

The Eee PC may be designed to appeal to children and older customers, but it should also tempt anyone looking for a lightweight budget PC that weighs next to nothing and connects to the Internet easily. It's ten times simpler to use than any Windows machine, starts up twice as fast (no crapware!), and is only about a fifth of the cost of other systems in its weight class. It's a little rough around the edges, but the Eee PC is a remarkably versatile machine for the price. (For a look at the latest Eee PC model, see our review of the Eee PC 4G Surf).

Refreshing Interface

The reason why the Eee PC should appeal to kids and grandparents alike is the streamlined, tab-based interface that offers only six easy-to-understand options: Internet, Work, Learn, Play, Settings, and Favorites. In some cases the Asus-designed menu (which runs on top of Linux) merely offers links to sites that Web-savvy users have already bookmarked, like Yahoo e-mail or Google Docs, but these choices are welcome for a target audience that may not be able to find these resources easily. We also appreciated the option of using these quick shortcuts, as opposed to opening the browser first. Users will love having a clutter-free desktop for day-to-day use and will likely find navigating the various options refreshingly simple compared with XP or Vista, as well as with Mac OS X.

Users who don't like the simplified Asus menu, can use this tip to switch to a regular KDE desktop, which looks just like Windows XP.

Small, But Not Too Small

We found the small seven-inch, 800 x 480-pixel display pretty easy on the eyes, especially when compared with Ultra-Mobile PCs like the OQO model 02 (5 inches) and FlipStart 1.0 (5.6 inches), but most users don't have that point of reference. A three-year-old accustomed to a 14-inch LCD didn't mind the screen while she was having fun with Mickey and friends on Playhousedisney.com. On the other hand, we don't see many people above the age of 50 using this device as their primary computer unless they hook it up to a bigger external LCD, which start at about $170.

Overall, the Eee PC's design is fairly solid and incredibly travel-friendly for the price. Our white model (black and other colors will come later) features an SD Card slot, two USB ports, and a VGA port on the right. An extra USB port, Ethernet and modem connections, and headphone and mic jacks line the left side. The keyboard is cramped but is just big enough to touch-type on; the biggest annoyance is the proximity of the Up arrow key and right Shift key; we accidentally moved up a line on several occasions while trying to capitalize a letter. And although we didn't mind the unified, slightly chintzy-feeling touchpad button that you can left- or right-click on, our kid tester found it confusing at first.

Chock-full of Useful Apps

So what can you do with this mini notebook? Practically anything you would do with a Windows-powered one. Teens and adults will likely spend the most time in the Internet area, where you can launch the Firefox browser, Wikipedia, Skype (for making cheap calls), and the instant messaging program (which includes clients for AOL, Google Talk, MSN, and Yahoo).

In fact, the Eee PC is the perfect device for households that fight over the primary PC (and its Internet connection). Why waste money on a two-trick pony like the ZipIt 2 Communicator (which offers only IMing and MP3 playback) when you can get a featherlight PC that does those things and surfs the whole Web, too? And that's not all the Eee PC can do. Under Learn, for example, you can launch word games like Hangman and math games like Tux of Math Command (starring the Linux penguin), which gives flash-card-style math questions the space-shooter treatment.

Under the Work menu you'll find quick links to OpenOffice.org 2.0's various Microsoft Office-compatible apps, including Documents, Spreadsheets, and Presentations. These programs took more than ten seconds to load the first time but only eight seconds after that, and we had no problem composing a Word document on the Eee PC, saving our work to a memory key and then continuing to work on that file on a Windows laptop. Asus also includes a file-manager utility, a PDF reader, the Thunderbird e-mail client, and a Notes app.

No, the Eee PC doesn't do iTunes, but the preloaded Media Player and decent-sounding speakers get the job done. The device played MP3s and WMAs stored on a memory card while we surfed the Web, and the built-in mic performed admirably when making Skype calls. The Eee PC also did a nice job handling MPEG-4 videos captured by a 720p Sanyo Xacti camcorder and stored on an SD Card; the video looked surprisingly smooth on the seven-inch display. The Photo Manager took its sweet time loading large image files, however. Overall, the Media Player app looks positively crude compared to Windows Media Center and Apple's Front Row, so a makeover is certainly in order.

Good Performance and Peripheral Support

Getting online with the Eee PC 701 via Wi-Fi was pretty painless; once you set up a profile and enter the encryption key, the notebook will automatically connect to that network the next time you boot up. Although surfing wasn't quite as zippy as it is on our ThinkPad, it was still plenty fast. The device had no problems handling Web 2.0 sites powered by Ajax technology (like Netvibes) or Flash (YouTube). We encountered a screen-resolution issue with the new Yahoo Mail, but we still got it to work.

Overall performance was pretty snappy, even though this machine uses a Celeron processor. Most apps loaded quickly, and the 512MB of RAM is more than sufficient for an operating system with such little overhead. A mere 4GB of storage space tells you that the Eee PC isn't going to be your primary digital media vault out of the box, but you can easily augment that capacity with an external drive. Plus, that 4GB solid state drive can withstand being dropped by Junior.

Speaking of external devices, the Eee PC did an excellent job recognizing all sorts of peripherals, from a Kingston USB drive to a USB dongle for a Logitech wireless mouse. When we plugged in a Casio Exilim camera, the Eee PC asked us if we wanted to open the images in the File Manager or Photo Manager. Not surprisingly, the device wouldn't load music from our iPhone, but the Eee PC did charge it.

Eee PC owners will be pleasantly surprised with how well this tiny machine can double as a desktop replacement. We connected the device to a 20-inch ViewSonic monitor and used the built-in utility to scale the resolution up to 1024 x 768 pixels, and the resulting picture was nice and sharp. The Eee PC also instantly recognized a full-sized Dell USB keyboard and a wired Logitech USB mouse.

LAPTOP writer Jeffrey Wilson used the 4G Surf edition as his primary computer for five days and wrote about it in his Eee PC product diary. "As I deleve deeper into the Eee PC and learn of of its flexibility, I realize it’s going to be hard to give this beaut back," he said.

This notebook lasted the rated 3.5 hours of battery life on our tests. That's not nearly as good as the five-plus hours of endurance offered by the best ultraportable notebooks. Those machines tend to cost $2,000, however. Bonus: The Eee PC's power adapter is even smaller than what most notebooks in this weight class ship with; it's not much bigger than a cell phone charger.

Room for Improvement

Although there's a lot to like about the Eee PC, there are some telltale signs here that the device may have been rushed to market. Take the webcam, which is launched under the Play menu. We were able to record footage from within the webcam app, but couldn't get it to work with either the preloaded Skype program or Pidgin instant messaging program, and with good reason: Asus is still working on drivers for the webcam, which it says will be released early next year.

Finding and adding applications could also be more intuitive. When we attempted to update Skype after being asked if we wanted to do just that from within the app, the Skype icon ceased to work from the main menu. Turns out you're supposed to update software from within the dedicated Add/Remove Software utility, located under Settings. Also, we didn't see any new applications we could add, although Asus promises to certify applications as they become available and make them available to users via software updates. The intrepid can install applications themselves, but you'll have to dig into the File Manager and launch them manually each time.

We have one other major complaint. Menu screens dipped below the taskbar occasionally, making it difficult to click Next or OK. This happened when we were attempting to set up an e-mail account from within the PIM application. We couldn't move the window in question up high enough or shrink it down enough to move to the next screen, which was quite frustrating. You're supposed to click the Alt button while moving the window with the mouse.

We'd also like to see Asus make the Eee PC mobile-broadband friendly--so you can surf beyond hotspot range--either by adding Bluetooth support (using a 3G cell phone as a modem) or by adding support for USB-powered modems.

Is the Eee PC for You?

Asus is forging a new class of device with the Eee PC. Yes, you can get a laptop with a bigger screen and better specs for the same amount of money, but this machine wasn't designed to go toe-to-toe with bargain-basement Windows laptops. It's an excellent secondary computer for households with children, and it's a very good primary computer for novice PC users who never had the time or patience to master an operating system.

In many ways, too, the Eee PC is a new-and-improved version of the Internet appliance concept, as its easy-to-tote, easy-to-use design makes it simple for anyone to get online.

When it comes to road warriors, the Eee PC runs circles around UMPCs powered by Vista and XP in terms of performance, price, and ease of use, but not application support. Despite a few issues, such as a webcam not yet optimized for online video chats, the Eee PC is also a worthy alternative to devices like the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. The Nokia is more pocket-friendly, is Bluetooth-enabled for using a cell phone as a modem, and has a built-in GPS receiver, but the Asus sports a better keyboard, can be connected to a big-screen monitor, and is $80 cheaper.

As for that other famous low-cost notebook: The $188 OLPC XO laptop is a far more ambitious product in that its purpose is to educate children in developing nations. But that doesn't mean the Eee PC isn't a breakthrough in its own right. It brings affordable computing to everyone else, and without a learning curve.

Om man tittar på kraven man vill ha för en sådan här dator (åtminstone vad jag vill ha) är det primära självklart att den skall vara liten. Nackdelen med det är då att skärm och tangentbord blir mindre.
1.Storleken som de flesta tillverkarna verkar välja är att ta en niotummsskärm (eller snarare 8,9") och bygga en så liten dator som möjligt kring den.
2.Nästa sak är att hur stort utrymme man anser sig behöva. En del tillverkare har i huvudsak två alternativ som kunden kan välja mellan och dessa är antingen en lite ssd-disk på 8-12GB eller en vanlig hårddisk på 80-120GB. Jag har i dessa fall valt att skriva med den modell som har en traditionell hårddisk.
3.Batteritiden är självklart viktig på något som är menat att användas var som helst,n är som helst. Jag anser att batteritiden på en sådan här produkt är viktigare än på en "vanlig" bärbar dator eftersom många ofta använder dem som vanliga stationära detorer och har strömadaptern kopplad till dem väldigt ofta. Dessa batteritider nedan är de som är lämnade från företagen själva så de lämnar jag inte så mycket åtanke åt då dessa inte brukar stämma särskilt bra.

Efter att Peter (tack!) lämnade kommentaren om att priserna nog var lite fel har jag fått skriva om min lilla slutsats...
Gigabytes pek och vridbara skärm ser väldigt trevlig ut men samtidigt är jag inte lika säker på att det kommer finnas färdigkonfigurerade linuxdistributioner till den, något som redan finns för Asus eee. Detta är kanske inte någon stor förlust men ändå något man måste ta med i beräkningen. Det finns ett väldigt stort community kring eee-produkterna. Det har gjorts moddar där man har lagt till pekskärm på 900-modellen men jag är inte säker på att jag är intresserad av att göra det. En sak som för mig är en klar nackdel för 901:an är att den bara har 20GB lagrinsutrymme. Detta hade kanske funkat för mig men är i minsta laget.

MSI Wind tycker jag nog är aningen stor, den är 3,4 cm längre än 901:an så den går nog bort på storleken.

Acers Aspire One ser onekligen ganska trevlig ut när man jämför med var de andra faller kort. Den har en rejäl hårddisk, priset är bra samt att den är ganska liten. Dess enda minus i förhållande till M912V är pekskärmen men den har å andra sidan ett mer attraktivt pris. Frågan är bara om det är värt 850kr för att få en pekskärm och något större HDD. I mitt fall tror jag nästan det. Tänk vad smidigt det måste vara sätta sig på tåget på väg till jobbet och vika upp sin M912V som en tablet-pc och sätta på sin favoritserie...

Diciamolo subito Asus EEE + scheda in parte mi ha deluso perche' e quasi impossibile utilizzarla al di fuori di casa - ufficio o comunque dove sia possibile avere a disposizione una antenna fissa "casalinga".

Per quanto riguarda l'aspetto semplicità  la penna inserita nell'eee viene subito riconosciuta e sebbene un uno scarno panello nero comincia la ricerca dei canali; ricerca che con la piccola antennina in allegato alla confezione non produce alcun risultato :

sia dentro che fuori le abitazioni, d'altra parte lo schermo dell'eee non e' il massimo per la luce solare .

Cambiano completamente le cose quando si puo' aggiungere la "potenza" di una antenna fissa al nostro piccolino ed allora tutte le reti digitali terrestri sono visibili:

segnalo solo che inizialmente il sonoro nei sistemi operativi xandros deve essere resettato.

Faro' altre prove in situazioni diverse ma allo stato attuale dimenticatevi di poter vedere al tv digitale terrestre al mare o in montanga.

Some days are a really good test of how well I live the adage that drives me

Sometimes it's just tempting to have a hissy fit and sulk.

As you know ... my dear and devoted reader ... my big laptop is in a coma and I've been trying to sort out the photo editing software on my small laptop Diva.

I want to post photos here and I haven't been able to for a few weeks.

Sooooooooooooo ....over about 6 hours today I wandered lost and lonely on the web - and mainly in the Asus users forum (sounds like a place for IT junkies ...and thank god for them or I'd have lost the will to live).

I was trying to sort the problem and came at it from numerous angles - downloaded software - nada - wrote text in the main software - nada (but very cool) - left messages on forums - nada - tried online photo resizing software - nada.

Frustrated? Oh yeh.

Feeling a little IT challenged? Oh yeh.

Wondering what the hell I was doing thinking I could build SKIL2 when I couldn't even sort a photo editing problem?

Sing after me - OH YEH.

So - I did what everyone should do when they have reached their limits and feel like the wheels are turning in the mud - I gave up.

Beating head against brick wall doesn't solve the problem.

I decided to shift into another mode away from my head - and into my body.

Went outside and found young James and we moved 2 wooden pallettes to the Sunny Funny Garden.

We'll use them as art tables and seats and places to loll.

I chatted with James (nearly 10 and a wonderful young man) about how his intelligence and learning preference looked like it was kinesthetic....

......learning and being by doing (really good builders, artists, boat makers, dancers, crafts people, carpenters, sports people have strong kinesthetic intelligence).

I asked him if he liked being still and how school work went for him. He said fine but he loved just doing things.

He is such an able person and I rely on him in the Sunny Funny Garden.

I love all the different ways that each of the children are themselves - and I relish the thought that I will live here for years and get to see them grown.

Anyway - I was telling James about the frustration of the computer and my persistence and then need for a break.

And - I decided to go back to it after an hours break.

He said 'Liz, take some more time away from it'.

I said 'The problem will still be there whether I go back now or wait longer. I feel like I will solve it now'.

He said 'I bet you'll walk back in and you'll do something and it'll all be worked out.'

I smiled and replied ' Well you know how I feel about good wishing ... so what you say will come true. And I like that attitude.'

James is a 'can do' kind of young man.

I went inside and tried a few more things and I think something I'd downloaded and written code for - started to work!!

It was an editing programme called Digikam - and it's a little beauty.

I've now resized the Paris photos and will post them over the next few days.

Interesting learning from today?

• persistence in the face of a problem is important - and - know when to take a break
• believe that you'll find a solution (or three) - it just might take some time
• let yourself feel frustrated and lost - it can act as a motivator
• don't let any of the emotions own you - revelling is fine - wallowing is boring
  
• change course and move from the predominant style (me using my brain) to another style (physical - dancing and moving) to free up and release the frustrated energy that can build up
• talk to a 9 year old boy - particularly if he's James - he'll help put things in perspective

So - if someone asked me

'How was your day Honey?'

I could have answered

'wait til I tell you what a frustratiing and futile day it's been ... nothing went right ... just like my whole life ... blah blah blah'

Or

' It has been frustrating and I lost it there for a while ... but that's not like me ... I find solutions ... I did after a while ... and I spent time with James and I got to chat with Noeleen across the road ... and Gabriel ... and Phillip ...and got an email from Amy who was in Paris and she would love to be my Developer/Mentor for SKIL2 ... and I had some cake...blah blah blah'

Same situation ... different perspective... my choice.

And ... i'm soooooo going dancing tomorrow night.

Feel like I've been a little too lost in my head and need to not think for a while.

There will be photos - be afraid ....

Ahhhh - how the universe laughs in our face as we think we have things sorted.

Went blithely to upload some of the Paris photos I had resized on Diva (linux OS, digikam addition to the Open Office Photo Manager).

Wordpress image uploader say it won't accept the photos as it doesn't fit their security profile.

So - it has a problem with Linux.

Hmmmm - I now see myself spending the next few hours wandering the Wordpress (this blog hoster) forum.

There's a wonderful concept called Wicked Problems that beautifully encapsulates this situation ... you diagnose 1 problem and find ways to analyse and 'solve' it ... only to find another one arises ...and another one ...

Fascinating.

I hope to post photos tomorrow.

Im Gegensatz zum Eee-PC von Asus kommt hier nicht OS 10.4 Tiger, sondern die neuste Generation, nämlich 10.5 Leopard zum Einsatz.

Der MSI Wind kommt mit einem 1,6 GHz Intel Atom Prozessor, 1 GB Ram, einer GMA 950 Grafikkarte und einer 80 GB Festplatte, was die ganze Angelegenheit erheblich OS X freundlicher macht, als die Ausstattung des Eee-PCs. Natürlich gibt es wie beim Eee ein paar Probleme, so ist die intrern verbaute WLAN-Karte etwas inkompatiebel, diese läßt sich allerdings gegen ein OS X kompatibles Modell austauschen.

Die Arbeitsgeschwindigkeit des Geräts scheint hinreichend zu sein. Wer mutig ist und ein Notebook, das kleiner und vor allem billiger als das MacBook Air ist, sucht, der sollte sich das ganze mal anschauen.

She is a School Teacher and they are becoming very popular in that industry.

Solid State Drive, pre-loaded software including Open Office and Mozilla Browser, Games and Utilities for the built in WebCam and it is Wireless Enabled.

Quite a rugged device (also good for kids) and would easily fit in a school bag with not too much weight. The Linux O/S may limit the number of applications you can load, as does the 4GB Drive, but you can easily augment the disk space with an SD Card or any number of USB devices.

At ~$400 US (less if you shop around) it has a great pricetag. I'm interested to see if I can get the USB (Memory Stick) installed version of Notes working on it, but you always have Webmail availability as long as you have a wireless connection.

Nice Gadget... thinking of getting the Pink one for my Daughter. (and maybe the Black one for yours truely)

Pengar för skolorna att tjäna på öppen källkod

Det kommer att bli intressant att dra lärdomar av de projekt som nu sätts igång då jag förutspår att många skolor säkerligen kommer att köpa in Asus EEE, Acer Aspire One, eller möjligen MSI-Wind till eleverna, som personliga arbetsdatorer. För gymnasieskolorna i Sverige handlar det sammanlagt om en besparing på närmare 100 miljoner per år om man väljer Linux framför Windows. Förutsatt att det inte krävs mer insatser av IT-personalen förstås. Det borde kanske kunna bli snarare tvärt om. Sveriges kommuner ser i alla fall stora pengar att spara in i framtiden.

Wäre noch hinzuzufügen: miese Qualität beim Keyboard, keine nennenswerten Updates für Xandros und recht dürftiger Treibersupport unter Windows. Mal von der günstigeren Konkurrenz à la Acer, MSI oder Medion ganz zu schweigen.

This company keeps coming up with winners though, and it may be of interest to post some background information on this "sleeping dragon" from Taiwan. Asus is a world brand, ASUSTek is a hugely successful company, and soon consumers in North America will catch on. That's why we are doing the Asus Reviews.

Here is a snippet from a six month old blog post The Most Hated Company In the PC Industry that help to explain a little about Asustek and Asus, and breakthrough portable laptops like the Asus Eee and now the "Rugged Asus B51E".

"At its core, Asustek makes motherboards — more than any other company. Asustek motherboards are the heart of Sony’s PlayStation 2 consoles, Apple MacBooks, Alienware PCs, and some HP computers."

1) In network-manager get it to connect to anything, if nothing shows up just put any for ESSID and mode DHCP then use 'sudo dhclient' and it should connect up for you.

2) Once connected run the magic command... 'sudo iwconfig <interface, mine is ra0> key open'

3) Boom, you should have a connection.  A note, for some reason firefox keeps starting in offline mode when on wireles(at least for me), if yours does that just goto File and uncheck Work Offline.

Plugga in det mobila bredbandsmodemet.

Nu görs en sökning av det mobila nätet.

Nu är det bara att markera, t ex"GPRS".

Nu väljer du din mobiloperatör, jag markerar "Sweden - Telia".

Ange namn på anslutning. Klicka "Nästa".

Slutför.

Nu är det bara att ansluta till "Mobil dataanslutning".

Den mobila anslutningen är aktiverad.

... sedan är det bara att surfa. Jag tycker hastigheten är helt OK om
man bara ska maila, blogga, eller kolla lite på hemsidor.

Now for the painful parts...

Only the XP version of the 901 is available right now, that means only 12G of space (Linux version has 20G) and... well, it's got windows on it.  Took me about 6 hours before someone told me the Linux version wasn't released yet.  So I broke down and got the XP one.  I really needed one as I'm going on vacation in a week.  Going to visit a friend in Shanghai, then head down to Hong Kong.  After that it's off to the producers meeting in the states, and then to Kuala Lumpur with my wife.  Lots of flying, and always got work to do.

So, we all know what happened to XP the second I got home, wipe and replaced with Ubuntu.  Of course things couldn't be easy, both the wired and wireless drivers wouldn't work.  Ok, shouldn't be a problem right... just go find the right drivers... oh was I wrong.

First, the EEE has no optical drive, and with no network connection I had to download the missing packages and put them on a USB drive to move over.  Then you discover that package requires another one... repeat, a lot.  Finally get it, nope... doesn't work.

Next step, try the IRC rooms, not always so helpful, but sometimes you find a nice guy/gal that knows what they are doing.  Spent all day on it, ended up with what should have worked but didn't... gave up.

Next day try some more... still no luck.  Ok, let's just go back to XP and verify that the things actually work.  Oh wait... I deleted the recovery partition... oops.  Ok, I've got the DVD.. I'll just make this into a bootable USB and run from there.  MANY MANY failed attempts later, I gave up and wife wanted to go out to the movies.

Get home, and found this great person by the name of SynrG on the Ubuntu IRC server.  They made me realize I was an idiot... never bothered to check to make sure the Cat5 cable was good... it wasn't.  Magic, I now have wired connection.  Here's what it took to make it work:

1) Install Ubuntu Hardy (8.04) with build-essential package (Can download here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/i386/build-essential/download).

2) Download Linux driver from ASUS (card is Atheros(R) AR8121/AR8113 PCI-E): http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?product=1&SLanguage=us-en&type=map&model=P5KPL-CM

3) Unrar them and transfer to USB drive and place in your EEE.

4) Cd to the src directory (<usb drive mount>/LinuxDrivers/L1e_Lan/l1e-l2e-linux-v1.0.0.4/src)

5) sudo KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make

6) sudo KBUILD_NOPEDANTIC=1 make install

7) A file called atl1e.ko is made, that's your driver.  Move to: /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/drivers/net/atl1e/at1le.ko  (If for some reason the atl1e directory isn't made, just sudo mkdir atl1e, your kernel name may be different)

8 ) Move into the directory from step 7 and: sudo insmod ./atl1e.ko

That's it, you should have working wired internet now!

Now for the wireless... I'm pretty sure it's working and it's just my router is acting up(wife says her laptop can't connect either) I'll look into it later.  In the mean time, here's what I did to get it running (it can see the network, just not connect... but like I said, I think that's my router).

1) Download driver from: http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/drivers/2008_0325_RT2860_Linux_STA_v1.6.1.0.tar.bz2

2) Unzip and move to USB drive(if working with second computer).  Move to EEE.

3) cd into 2008_0325_RT2860_Linux_STA_v1.6.1.0

4) sudo make

5) sudo make install

6) Reboot.

That's it, should have the driver up and running.  I haven't had much luck with it in roaming mode, so I would suggest going into the network-manager and taking your wireless connection off of roaming mode(just put any as ESSID and mode DHCP).  Then use 'sudo dhclient' to hopefully find and connect to an access point.

An update, I got it working!  Here's what you need to do:

http://www.ubuntu-eee.com - A version of Ubuntu tailored for the EEE, really nice stuff.  Be sure to read their tip on fixing the shutdown process as there's an issue where a sound module doesn't get removed correctly so the computer never really shuts down.  Which reminds me, if you install Ubuntu be ready to yank the battery after the initial install as that fix obviously hasn't been done yet.

Jag misstänker att något hade hänt under någon uppdatering så det krockade med webbkamera-programmet. Så till slut så gjorde helt enkelt så att jag körde Linux-återställnings-DVD:n som följde med. Installerade nytt Xandros Linux. Nu fungerar webbkameran perfekt.

Sitting outside in the sun, just relaxing. Right now I'm enjoying the rain-ridden Wimbledon semi-finals. It feel a little ironic that I am sitting here in this extremely hot weather (for Norwegian standards that is) while Wimbledon on my monitor is struggling with rain.

This is a perfect example to show off how great a small PC like the Asus Eee is. Right now I'm writing this blogpost on it, while on the same time streaming Wimbledon directly from NRK on another monitor. I've forwarded the live feed to my 17 inch monitor on resolution 1280x1024. I had to clock the CPU from the standard 630 MHz to a more decent 900 MHz to avoid lag since both VLC (which I'm showing the feed in) and Firefox spends a lot of CPU power.

I'm actually surprised that the little thing could handle both, the world is indeed full of surprises. Even though this was a minor one.

Ob es sich hierbei lediglich um ein Gerücht handelt, kann ich zu diesem Zeitpunkt nicht sagen.
