Vào năm 2000 Blu-ray Disc(công nghệ đĩa quang màu xanh chạy bằng tia laser màu xanh có bước sóng nhỏ hơn tia laser thường ) lần đầu tiên được Sony giới thiệu và phát triển và được quảng cáo những tính năng ưu việt như độ bền và dung lượng Blue Ray hữa hẹn mang đến cho người dùng nhiều bộ phim chất lượng cao với độ nét và độ phân giải cao ,cũng tại thời điểm này chuẩn đĩa HD DVD cũng đã được hãng điện tử Toshiba công bố với những tính năng ưu việt tương tự .Do Blue Ray mới được giới thiệu nên cùng tại một thời điểm HD DVD đang nhận được sự ưu ái của nhiều hãng điện tử và nhà sản xuất phim ,việc được các nhà sản xuất phim hậu thuẫn có nghĩa là các sản phẩm (phim ) sẽ được phát hành trên chuẩn mà họ hỗ trợ ,Toshiba như mở cờ và họ xúc tiến những dây chuyển sản xuất đầu máy chuẩn HD DVD và tung ra thị trường với số lựong lớn ,cũng theo đó các hãng điện tử khác cũng sản xuất ăn theo dòng sản phẩm này .Trong khi hàng Toshiba phát hành và sản xuất HD DVD thì người khổng lồ Sony âm thầm tìm kiếm những đồng mình khác cho chuẩn Blue Ray của mình đồng minh của họ là Sony, Philips Electronics và Matsushita là nhưng hãng đã thống nhất và công bố. Ngày 5 tháng 10: Sony và Pioneer công bố định dạng DVR Blue tại triển lãm CEATEC Nhật Bản. Đây chính là nền tảng cơ bản của chiếc đĩa Blu-ray BD-RE thế hệ đầu tiên.

2002

Ngày 19 tháng 2: Với Sony trên tư cách "tiên phong phất cờ", 9 hãng điện tử thuộc loại lớn nhất thế giới cùng công bố kế hoạch phát triển đĩa Blu-ray thương mại. Sony cũng đồng thời là "thủ lĩnh tinh thần" của liên minh này.

Ngày 29 tháng 8: Toshiba và NEC công bố một định dạng đĩa quang thế hệ mới khác là HD DVD

Ngày 13 tháng 2: Bắt đầu bán giấy phép công nghệ Blu-ray. Các hãng sản xuất đầu đĩa phải trả 120.000 USD mỗi năm, cộng thêm mức phí 0,10 USD trên mỗi đầu đĩa Blu-ray bán ra. Các hãng truyền thông thì đóng phí cố định 8000 USD/năm, cộng với khoản phụ trội 0,02 USD cho mỗi chiếc đĩa bán được.

Ngày 7 tháng 1: Trong nỗ lực tìm kiếm hồi kết cho cuộc chiến dằng dai, LG Electronics công bố một đầu đĩa "hai mang", xem được cả HD DVD lẫn Blu-ray. Warner Bros thì trình làng một đĩa mô hình với mặt trên là HD DVD, mặt dưới là Blu-ray, tức là xem được trên cả hai loại đầu đĩa.

Ngày 17 tháng 4: Lần đầu tiên, doanh số tiêu thụ của đầu đĩa HD DVD tại Bắc Mỹ vượt mốc 100.000 máy.

Ngày 1 tháng 8: Microsoft giảm giá đầu đĩa HD DVD dành cho Xbox 360, từ 199 USD xuống còn 179 USD. Ngoài ra, hãng còn tặng kèm 5 bộ phim HD DVD miễn phí.

Ngày 20 tháng 8: Paramount và Dreamworks Animation đều bỏ Blu-ray để toàn tâm toàn ý hỗ trợ cho HD DVD.

Ngày 4 tháng 1: Warner Bros đột ngột thả một quả bom giữa ban ngày khi tuyên bố: Sẽ ngừng bán phim HD DVD trong tương lai và chỉ ủng hộ cho duy nhất định dạng Blu-ray. Phản ứng trước quyết định này, liên minh Quảng bá HD DVD đã huỷ cuộc họp báo tại CES.

Ngày 6 tháng 1: Ông Akio Ozaka, Chủ tịch Toshiba tại Mỹ vẫn tin tưởng rằng "HD DVD là định dạng phù hợp nhất với nhu cầu và sở nguyện của người dùng".

Ngày 14 tháng 1: Toshiba giảm giá một loạt đầu đĩa HD DVD. Giá bán lẻ của chiếc HD-A3, một sản phẩm tầm trung, giờ chỉ còn 150 USD.

Ngày 11 tháng 2: NetFlix và BestBuy tuyên bố sẽ loại HD DVD ra khỏi các cửa hàng của mình.

Ngày 15 tháng 2: Wal-mart, hãng bán lẻ lớn nhất thế giới, cho biết sẽ ngừng bán sản phẩm HD DVD kể từ tháng 6 tới.

Ngày 16 tháng 2: Kênh truyền hình NHK của Nhật đưa tin Toshiba đã ngừng sản xuất đầu đĩa HD DVD mới. Một số tờ báo địa phương xác nhận thông tin này và tờ Nikkei thậm chí còn cho rằng Toshiba đã "giương cờ trắng đầu hàng".
Cho đến khi các hãng điện tử và hãng phim nghiêng về Blue ray thì HD DVD thực sự bị lung lay và cho đến đầu năm nay 2/2008 Toshiba quyết định tuyên bố ngưng sản xuất dòng máy HD DVD khi các hãng lớn của Mỹ tuyên bố sẽ phát triển và bán sản phấm chuẩn Blue Ray ,sự bỏ cuộc của Toshiba kéo theo những hãng lớn như l Microsoft, Intel, hãng phim Universal Home Studios và Paramount Home Entertainment cũng bị ảnh hưởng vì họ cũng đã ủng hộ và kì vọng rất nhiều vào chuẩn HD DVD của Toshiba .

Aquí, Sanyo ha dado la nota, creado un laser para Blu-Ray a la capacidad de 12x, unos 432 Mbit/s teóricos; con solo el doble del consumo eléctrico, unos 450 milliwatt; y la capacidad de leer y escribir hasta 4 capas, 100Gb aproximadamente. Y todo esto lo podemos llenar en algo mas que 8 minutos.

Eigentlich war es klar, MS möchte mit der Xbox 360 nicht nur den Gamer in uns ansprechen, auch der Filmfreak soll seinen Spass haben. Die ersten Versuche ( 360 als Media-Extender, 360 als HD-DVD Player) sind nicht wirklich erfolgreich gewesen, wie es mit den aktuellen Versuchen aussieht die 360 als Video-on-Demand Player zu etablieren kann ich nicht wirklich beurteilen ( da in Deutschland nur deutsche Tonspuren angeboten werden, ist es für mich uninteressant ).

Und da der Formatkrieg beendet ist, scheint es mir nur die logische Konsequenz zu sein, dass nun auch ein Blu-ray Player erscheint.

Ein Vertrag für die Produktion von Blu-ray Laufwerken soll abgeschlossen worden sein (lustigerweise auch noch mit einem Toshiba / Samsung Joint Venture ). Genauere Daten wie Produktionsbeginn oder -menge sind leider keine verfügbar, dennoch denke ich dem "Gerücht" liegt mehr als nur ein Fünkchen Wahrheit zugrunde. Die nächsten Tage werden sicherlich weitere Fakten ans Licht bringen, ein so großer Deal bleibt kaum unbemerkt.

Review: Ok horror remake. Solid performance by Sutherlan, but not a very believable character by Paula Patton. All in all, a pretty pointless movie.

Pare infatti che la nuova linea unirà i due prodotti oggi esistenti (Macbook e Macbook Pro). Sicuramente i portatili Apple avranno seguito una cura dimagrante ed è logico aspettare il passaggio dalla plastica all'alluminio (meno inquinante). Il Macbook avrà il trackpad multitouch ed è pure possibile che venga eliminato l'unico pulsante ora esistente.

Secondo le dichiarazioni rilascate da Steve Jobs dovrebbe arrivare un nuovo prodotto che ridurrà, almeno inizialmente, gli utili della società. E' logico quindi aspettarsi un taglio di prezzi per il Macbook, anche se la filosofia Apple vuole che al taglio di prezzi si preferisca un aumento di prestazioni (lettore BlueRay?).

Giungiamo quindi al punto cruciale: quali innovazioni tecnologiche porteranno i nuovi Mac a livello hardware? Io penso che uno schermo HD ready per il Macbook e Full Hd per il Pro non ce lo tolga nessuno. Seguendo questa logica viene naturale pensare ad un lettore BlueRay per il primo e masterizzatore per il secondo. Purtroppo però Mac OS X non supporta ancora questo formato percui dovrebbe essere lanciato, in cocomitanza con l'evento Mac, un aggiornamento: il 10.5.6.

Review: First episode of the season; a disappointment. No real story or explantion to former and new events. Just Clark is back, Clark has to get his power back.
Now the they story is gettng straight; people with weird powers and a Luthor corp conspiracy.

City Of Ember (rated PG) appears to be geared mainly toward the younger crowds, but still looks interesting.  In order to save the human race an underground city is build to keep them safe for 200 years.  Somewhere along the way someone had a change of plans.  Returning to the surface wasn't part of that plan.  Now all of a sudden the generator that provides their only source of light is on its way out.  Now it's up to a group of curious citizens of Ember to find clues and piece together the mystery that is their underground existence before the lights go out forever.  City Of Ember isn't a high priority on my list, but it definitely caught my attention.  Starring Bill Murray, Tim Robbins, Saoirse Ronan, Harry Treadaway, Martin Landau, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Toby Jones and Mary Kay Place

Quarantine (rated R) really isn't my kind of movie, but it captured my interest none the less.  A reporter and cameraman are doing a story on the local fire station in Los Angeles when the firemen are called to an emergency.  Once on scene one of the firemen gets attacked by someone or something.  When they try to retreat with their wounded officer they find themselves locked inside of the apartment building.  It's a quarantine.  Strangely none of them can make contact with the outside world.  On TV it is announced that everyone was evacuated from the building.  From here the madness ensues.  Scary stuff.  With the help of the reporter and her cameraman, the movie appears to be shot completely Blair Witch style.  Think Blair Witch meets I Am Legend, right after the mutated outbreak.  Starring Jennifer Carpenter, Jay Hernandez, Columbus Short, Greg Germann, Steve Harris, Dania Ramirez, Rade Sherbedgia and Jonathon Schaech.

Sex Drive (rated R) follows the adventures of an 18 year old virgin that meets a girl on line.  When she shows interest he starts a trek across country to lose his virginity.  Along with a couple of friends this sexy voyage is teeming with lots of laughs, wild and crazy mishaps and mayhem.  Who knows, maybe they'll even learn a few valuable lessons along the way.  It could happen.  Starring James Marsden, Josh Zuckerman, Amanda Crew, Katrina Bowde, Seth Green and Clark Duke.

Review: A highly paced action series which actors and production brings no shame to the Terminator movies. Watching the first episode, I was a bit disappointed. But when continued, the series shows more and more of its different qualities; actors, production and script. A must see for Terminator fans.

These two weeks is going to be rocking, Zune followed by ipod convention and now the Godfather. Hurray September. :)

Review: Being a big Christian Bale fan ever since the "Empire of the Sun", I of coursed liked this movie. As the prequel the effects, stunts and overall performance is close to flawless. As a super hero movie, it is a great treat, but compairing it to an ordinary great action, it is somewhat mediocre. A guess "The Dark Knight" will be mostly remembered for the great performance by Heath Ledger "Joker". I agree with the critics he was really good, sadly he had to die before he got their acknowledgement.

Review: Another Hulk movie, *yawn*. Although a great cast containing two of my favorite actors Norton and Roth, the movie plot seems more then pointless. In the super hero movie category, it will end up somewhere between "Spiderman III" and "Electra", ok. Nice special effects and acting.

Review: An unique, entertaining and strange story about revenge and greed. I can understand that Tarantino produced it, its something he would like. Great characters and role interpretations. Love Michael Madsen's destructive and consciousless character "The Gent", the greatest gun man ever riding a motorbike. A must see for movie enthusiasts.

A Orinda é especializada em direitos de propriedade intelectual, e colocou no passado(20 de agosto) a Sony nos tribunais, tanto respeitante ao PlayStation 3, com os leitores de Blue Ray

Ela se baseia na patente de 1995 da Hyundai, relativamente sobre os métodos de gravação de conteúdos num disco óptico. Se aplicaria ao blue-ray ou qualquer outra mídia
