I am not quiet sure of 'what drives me'. Perhaps, it is this constant, ever-present 'doubt' that lingers at the corner of my mind. Or perhaps, it is this pattern matching algorithm hard-wired into my brain, which tries to make sense of seemingly contradictory ideas and in the process, ends up getting more confused. Akin to the more you know, the less you know.

Perhaps, the driving force is the tag line of my blog. As eloquently put by Robert Frost - "We dance round in a ring and suppose, but the secret sits in the middle and knows'.

Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe, it is just a plot carefully drafted by the self to construct a belief system, so that it can feel better off.

The Buddhists call it "The Golden Silence". Silence as a response, when posed with some of the fundamental questions.

Going into Dallas there have been a lot of changes so far. There have been three significant transactions if you didn't know. Karma left Carbon and joined Triggers Down. Naded left Legendz and joined Carbon. Finally Legendpimps left was picked up by Legendz. How does this change the scene of the top seven in Dallas. Well, Here's how I see it.

There are 3 levels of teams. First you have the top teams who showed last tournament they are ready for Dallas and Vegas. The top teams are Str8 Rippin who looked very solid and Instinct who I think will only continue to get better.

Second is a big group. The teams in here could place in any order in my opinion, so my list is in random order and not indicitive of their projected placings. This second teir contains Final Boss, Ambush, Carbon, Triggers Down and Classic. I think these teams are the ones that could really depend on how well they perform in the tournament since they are all pretty even talent wise.

The third and final level I am discussing contains Legendz, Antigravity, Breaking Point and Chilled Reality. These four teams will duke it our for that 8th and all important last place in the national championships. In my book both Legendz and AtG are borderline moving into the next group. So although I think they are capable, I see it as an upset if either Breaking Point or Chilled ealityget that last spot.

I think there are some spoilers to wach out for Active Rush is one and idfdsj is another. All in all this should be a very fun tournament to watch. Check it out live and MLGPRO. Enjoy and all feedback is welcome.

I noticed some people linking to my page from the high blood pressure tags, so I decided I'm going to put a little info about that in here so that it may be a little more helpful to someone than my earlier posts.

My mother has been battling with high blood pressure for the last 7 or 8 years. Growing up with a single mom, I remember quite well the nights of packing everything up for my sisters so that we could go to the hospital. Or nights where we had to call the ambulance to take her to the hospital because she couldn't breathe.

So here is a brief listing of things that will make living with high blood pressure easier. I have seen these practiced, tried and true, through my mother who doctors said would never come off of her medication. She has been off of it for 2 years.

1. Lose weight- a lot of people who suffer from high blood pressure are well over their weight limit. My mother so happened to be clinically obese and lost 150 lbs. because of this. Having high blood pressure makes you more susceptible to sleep apnea.

2. Change your diet- this goes for everyone. The first question they ask you is "do you use the salt shaker?" Adding excess salt to your food is a sure way to skyrocket your BP.

Diet Possibilities: This may not work for everyone, but it sure helped my mom lose that 150 lbs. in less than a year.

-Cut out white flour. Trader Joes and Whole Foods offers a lot of wheat alternatives that are pretty tasty. There are grain bread options as well!

-Cut out the soda. This helps a lot with cleansing the body and keeping diligent with the diet itself. The cut down on sugar is good as well.

-Cut out the salt. Already stated, but good to be reiterated.

3. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Helps keep the body toned, fit, and fired up!

4. Don't stay in the shower for too long. The hot water will raise your BP and could cause you to get dizzy or faint. Not good!

5. Invest in a BP cuff and monitor your BP at various time of the day. Then measure it each day at those same times so that you can see your patterns. When you go for your next checkup, that BP log will help you and your doctor greatly.

So. When should you go to the hospital?

When you wake up with sleep apnea- or being unable to breathe in the middle of sleeping. I recall my mother pacing around the living room and the kitchen with her hand clutched to her chest trying to catch he breath.

If your bottom BP number is over 100, that is something to concern yourself about. So go to your doctor as soon as possible.

Doctors generally agree that systolic readings of 120 to 140 and diastolic readings of 70 to 90 are normal. Slightly higher readings---140 to 159 and 90 to 94---are considered mild high blood pressure (mild hypertension). Readings from 160 to 179 and 94 to 114 signal moderate hypertension.

That's all I can think of for now. The husband has already shut down the house and I'm nodding off. But before I break, here's a link to a website with more information.

I went to my rheumatologist appointment today. I am never going to go see that man again!!! Here

I went to my rheumatologist appointment today. I am never going to go see that man again!!! Here is what I wanted done:

Cymbalta: I am on 60mg daily. It doesn't work. I don't feel any less pain. None. I HURT. I want to stop taking it. He said No to keep taking it. He also told me that I am on the maximum dose I can take. I KNOW for a fact that is a LIE.

Lyrica: I was on 75mg twice daily. He wants me to take 75mg in the AM and 150mg in the PM. He INSISTS that the combination of Cymbalta AND Lyrica will work for me. It has to he says. Well, he's full of shit. Oh, and now I am having issues with my insurance company covering the new amount of Lyrica. Greaaaaaaat.

Flexeril: He does not even want to consider giving me something besides the Flexeril for spasms. I am on 10mg I think. It does not work. He refuses to think of anything else to give me. I wanted to try Zanaflex or Soma or something. No - NOT an option.

Klonopin: I am on 1mg pill at bedtime. Well, actually, I take them when extremely stressed out. I don't take them before bed. They are NOT covered by my insurance by the way. He wants to up me to 1 1/2 pill every night. Hmmm.... Not too happy about this at all.

Ambien CR: I told him this worked for about 3 weeks then nothing. Well, he insists that it should be working for me. Uh - Listen Buddy - IT"S NOT WORKING!!!

I want to see a pain specialist and he said I don't need one. Uh~ HELLO????? Do you speak ENGLISH???

Ok, that was wrong, considering he's of some obvious Middle-Eastern descent. But I also wonder if he's not RESPECTING me because of his culture. I wonder if he has a diminished view of women and doesn't care.

I went in today and wore the most comfortable clothing I have - besides my PJ's. In fact, I seriously considered wearing my PJ's today. Instead I wore yoga pants and a t-shirt and flip flops. I barely brushed my hair. I forgot to brush my teeth. I hurt. No makeup. No jewelery. Not even my wedding bands, which are at the jewelers getting fixed. My BP is high. My weight is down. I HURT!!! Do I need to wear a t-shirt that says "Look at me! I Hurt and You are an Idiot!" ?

I am making an appointment with this highly recommended Rheumy tomorrow. She's in Springfield, MO. Only a 2 hour drive versus the 4 hour drive to Little Rock to the other highly recommended Rheumy. I also found out today that the Gyn I think I want to see is in the SAME building!! What Luck! Maybe I can finagle an appointment with both on the same day!

Ugh. Tired, Hurt, Frustrated. Pissed at Doc's. Someone Shoot Me Now. I'll be strong and act like I'm OK.

The boss of TNK-BP, Robert Dudley, will step down as part of the deal with the Russian billionaires that control half of the business.

Three independent directors will also be appointed to TNK-BP's board.

The Russian shareholders had accused BP of running TNK-BP like a subsidiary and Mr Dudley of favoring the British shareholder.

BP chairman Peter Sutherland said that the agreement, to be finalised over coming months, would relieve recent tensions between the two sides.

"It will create a stable base from which to grow the joint venture to the benefit of everyone involved, including the Russian state," Mr Sutherland said

He said that Mr Dudley had been an outstanding chief executive and would be hard to replace.

'Positive signal'

BP owns 50% of the venture while the Russian shareholding is made up of a number of Russian billionaires who control a consortium known as Alfa Access Renova (AAR).

Russia welcomed the compromise between AAR and BP.

"We are pleased that this situation has been resolved and the shareholders have come to an agreement without the involvement of third parties, including the state," said Igor Sechin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

"This is a positive signal for the Russian market. We support the development of TNK-BP and believe that this company has excellent long-term prospects."

Viktor Vekselberg, chairman of Renova, said the agreement was the result of difficult negotiations.

"Most importantly, emotions were not allowed to prevail over common sense and both sides found the solution that best meets the interests of TNK-BP," he said.

was BESLAN AN ISLAMIC TERRORIST INCIDENT? If it was why were most of the victims children, and by the way, Muslim, both or which categories would be an illegal target for resistance operations under Islamic Law?

There is a great deal of circumstantial evidence now suggesting that the Beslan massacre was in fact a pseudo operation conducted by private mercenary forces whose leaders most likely expected to survive. Some of the "Muslim" fighters initially resisted the Leaders orders to capture and hold innocent children and were killed by the leadership. Three of the attackers found dead were British Algerians, Algerian terror now being described as a classic pseudo-operation, counter gang, employed for counter insurgency purposes against the legitimate indigenous Islamic democratic movement.

Moreover personnel and transnational oil cartel companies active in Algeria also operate in Azerbaijan and Georgia, both staging grounds and support bases for the Chechnya terror operations.

Julaybib provides massive, albeit , circumstantial at times, evidence, that suggests that Beslan was a pseudo-operation and that another Beslan is imminent as a response to the humiliation of the terror base in Tblisi, aided and abetted by NGIOs operating in the region, with overlapping personnel to the cartel influence operations, including International Crisis Group.

After a knock down, drag out fight, I finally got ole girl to open up and say what the fuck was on her mind. And it's OFFICIAL, you women are c-r-a-z-y! I say that with all the love I can muster. I need each and every one of you to keep taking your crazy pills.

Turns out, her problem is that I came home and told her about Shawty Big Hair. According to her, I can flirt, but I aint supposed to come home and tell her about it...HUH?! I'm sorry, say what?!

What happened to open lines of communication, no secrets, trust, honesty and all that other gay shit you Venus inhabitors claim to love and want in a relationship?

My old lady tells me she has some trust issues. *duh, really?!* Apparently, she has a problem with 99% of my female friends. Now these female friends aint never done anything to ole girl, but she's "threatened" by them for whatever reason *side note* Please reference my "Boogie Man" comment in the previous post...

Some of these female friends are just that...FRIENDS. Some are co-workers. And some are exes...that's right women I used to date. See, I try not to part with pussy on bad terms. LMAO But seriously, there are a handful of women I dated and we are still cool.

I don't know about you, but I don't really talk on the phone. I am the Text Msg Master. Without exagerating, I am well into the thousands of texts when I get my bill each month. I gets busy on my Treo.

I'm getting off track. So these female friends (as well as male friends) all primarily text me. Ole girl has taken issue with this. We've talked about it and she (I think) realizes that the friends aren't going anywhere. I've even broke a cardinal Man Law and let her see my phone! Yep, I care about her enough to try to ease her fears by letting her go thru my phone. Again, I don't have anything to hide. I let her see the texts. They are all harmless. "how are you?", "how was your weekend?", "what are you doing for your daughter's birthday?"...silly shit like that. All superficial and casual; nothing inappropriate. Still she has an issue. What's a brutha to do?

But back to the talk from last nite...she's sitting there telling me she was upset about me being open and honest with her about my actions and I'm thinking: "Your Grown999 *inside joke* ass can't find a more CONSTRUCTIVE way to voice how you're feeling?! I mean damn, you're an adult, I'm an adult but you're walking around here like somebody stole your fucking big wheel!"

I will give her some credit. She did EVENTUALLY say she will check herself. So, hopefully this will be the end of this episode. But I aint gonna fake, I am HOT as fish grease on August asphalt that she deleted the pic of Shawty Big Hair!

Anyway, I need to thank you guys for your input, comments, suggestions and prayers. I came THIS close to catching a charge! I swear I did. Sometimes you gotta put a nigga in a headlock and noogie some sense into their ass. LMAO

When Alan Greespan said the Iraq war was "all about oil", he spilled the beans on the one global obsession of our Vice President and former Oil Services CEO--U.S. control of global oil supplies. Well, Tricky Dick is back at it again in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan, like Georgia, is a former Soviet republic that has sought closer ties to the West and the United States, and it is considered a vital crossroads for oil and gas from the Caspian Sea.

Underscoring the point, Mr. Cheney’s first meetings here in Baku were with representatives of two international oil companies: William Schrader of BP Azerbaijan and Robert Satmalchi of Chevron, according to a spokeswoman, Megan M. Mitchell. She said they discussed “their assessments of the energy situation in Azerbaijan and the broader Caspian region — especially in light of Russia’s recent military actions in Georgia.”

The U.S. is about to pour $1 billion into Georgia, some of it probably sophisticated military aid. Did Congress actually approve this appropriation, or is there some Dick Cheney slush fund they can take it from?

UK footie fans have this week witnessed a very different game, played out to gasps from fans and pun

UK footie fans have this week witnessed a very different game, played out to gasps from fans and pundits alike. If you're not a footie fan, don't worry- you don't need to know the off-side rule to get your head round this: we're talking the business of football.

Basically, this weekend was the culmination of the trasnsfer window; a frenetic time when players are bought and sold. Because of the enormous fees commanded by top players, these transfers have a knock-on effect on the broader business of football in general. Not surprisingly, this is also a time when whole clubs (or major shareholdings in them) change hands, too.

Enter Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the sports-mad tycoon who happens to be a member of Abu Dhabi's ruling family and now the owner of a 90% shareholding in Manchester City Football Club; a snip at £210million.

The footie world is very excited about this. The Sheikh (also owner of Al Jazeera Football Club and chairman of the Emirates Racing Authority) has already moved to pump millions of pounds into British football, energising the transfer market and giving some stiff competition to other billionaire players like Chelsea's owner, Roman Abramovich. Sport- and the TV rights which support it- needs constant zing, and we need flamboyant new characters to inject some novelty and enthusiasm whenever possible.

On the business side, though, I think there are some interesting points to make.

Firstly, Al Nahyan has not bought Man City with Abu Dhabi's burgeoning sovereign wealth funds. Oh no. He's bought the club with his personal money. It's not an investment, it's a plaything. Sure, Abu Dhabi wants to better understand the sports and leisure industries, but the club is fundamentally a toy. The world is definitely dividing up into the super-rich, the comfortable, and the unbearably impoverished- and on a fully global scale.

Secondly, we need to learn from Abu Dhabi (and Dubai and her neighbours). The Emirs understand that the oil money won't last forever, and they are using their wealth to invest in projects around the world to ensure future stability. (Companies do this too- it's why petrochemicals giants like BP or EDF Energy are putting money into renewables). One of Abu Dhabi's funds, for example, now owns New York's Chrysler Building. Strangely enough, the UK has known for twenty years that North Sea Oil wouldn't last forever- and yet we find ourselves at the mercy of bumpy markets today.

Stability is - literally - worth its weight in gold to any company. If, like me, you started your company single-handedly, you'll look back and realise how you lived hand-to-mouth in the early days. I now have a modest "pot" for emergencies, and I've diversified the sorts of products I offer. All of these things are complicated to do, and take up time and energy. Yet, they're essential complications, because they smooth out the path of my business and soften any nasty surprises. Now, I know this will come as a shock... but my business isn't quite the size of Sheikh Mansour's. The principles are the same, though. Enjoy the season!

Kölcsönöztem ilyen felfújható, nagy gumibizbaszokat a jónépeknek.

Zánkán meg nem volt semmi. Egész nap meleg meg bámulás. A különböző népek azért vicceskedtek néha.

XDDD

Nagyon hiányzik a big city life.

Most meg magolgatom a törit. Valahogyan sikerülnie kell valami szépet kikerekítenem belőle októberben.

Muszály lesz.

Anybody who gets in Sarah “Barracuda” Palin’s way gets trampled, so we shouldn

Anybody who gets in Sarah "Barracuda" Palin's way gets trampled, so we shouldn't be surprised that she offered her oldest daughter's private crisis to the media jackals to dispel rumors that could knock the wheels off her political career. Palin always puts herself first.

Palin's poorly vetted past keeps popping up and getting creepier. She announced in March that she was 7 months pregnant, surprising her closest staffers. In the Anchorage Daily News March 6th story announcing her pregnancy, her husband was described as a "BP oil worker on leave". So, her husband works for BP-- isn't that a conflict of interest?

She hired Chuck Kopp as Commissioner, knowing that he was fired for sexual harassment of a co-worker, apparently thinking it didn't matter, or that people wouldn't find out. They did find out and it did matter, forcing her to accept his resignation 11 days later when it hit the news. She gave him a $10,000 severance package-- after 11 days of work.

She fired Walt Monegan after he wouldn't succumb to pressure to fire her brother-in-law, Mike Wooten. If you have any question about whether or not she was behind that, listen to the entire audio recording of lackey Frank Bailey, available on the Anchorage Daily News website. She cut him loose for doing his job, too.

She claims to have fired Walt Monegan in part because he wasn't doing enough to deal with alcohol issues in the state, yet offered him a job as head of the Alcohol Bureau Commission?

Bailey said in the smoking gun audio recording that she "likes Walt but couldn't understand why he wasn't moving on this after a year". He also describes efforts to talk with Monegan and others unsuccessfully about the issue. We're supposed to believe that 24 phone calls came from her office to the state troopers office, without her knowledge? Her staff were doing this on their own initiative, with details she fed them?

Monegan received no severance pay, even though she hand-picked him and brought him out of retirement for the position.

As mayor, she fired the Wasilla police chief because he didn't support her political campaign. She threatened the librarian, too, for the same reason, but allowed her to keep her job.

She claims that she feared for her sister's life because ex-brother-in-law was so dangerous, yet she left for a meeting instead of calling the cops, after watching through the window with a neighbor.

The judge in her sister's divorce case clearly discouraged the attempt to get Wooten fired, pointing out that getting him fired would negatively impact her sister's alimony and child support-- yet Palin apparently didn't care.

Did she really clean house and weed out corruption, or has she abused her power for personal and political gain?

Is this how she's going to "reach across the aisle"? Palin's low approval ratings in Alaska should be a red flag for the rest of us. They've seen her in action, and they don't like what they see.

Okay. Barrack Obama says he won’t go after Republican Vice Presidential pick Gov. Sarah Palin

Okay. Barrack Obama says he won't go after Republican Vice Presidential pick Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol's pregnancy. Well then brother, clear a path, because that crazy wench has got it coming. And I, for one, have no scruples. (Too many years being used as a punching bag by the Rush Limbaughs of the world. FUCK YOU, RUSH!!!)

Let's see now, you have a newborn down syndrome special needs child at home and your seventeen-year-old daughter is pregnant by her backwoods boyfriend and fully intends to keep the child. Shit, now's a perfect time to run for the Vice Presidency of the United States of America!

Really? You have that kind of time? Because it seems like now might be a good time to get back home and help your family. Daddy's off running an oil company, and the kids need you way more than John McCain does.

In fact, maybe if you hadn't been running for governor in the first place, your daughter would have gotten the attention she needed from you and had better judgement. Shit, if they had sex education where you live, maybe both of you would have known better. You might have even avoided your own 44-year-old LIFETIME COMMITTMENT TO A SPECIAL NEEDS KID.

Seriously, what do these right-wing gun nuts think praising her for her daughter's decision? All this demonstrates is that the woman is UNFIT TO RAISE HER OWN FAMILY, let alone run our republic when Grampy McSame spouts an aneurysm while straining over the stool.

There are repugnicunts out there who claim that this is the most beautiful story: a caring mother supporting her daughter during a time of crisis, and to a small degree, they may be right. But the whole story is that this bitch cares more about her ambition than she ever did her family (including a defenseless, damaged goods infant). She is no bastion of righteousness, she's a selfish power-hungry medusa who squirts out kids without a thought for who will look after them, just like most of the slime that vote republican in this country.

Give me a fucking break if you think she's fit to rule us. I, for one, pity her family. Who's gonna raise the kids? Not daddy, he's off making millions for BP. And mommy'll be right home after she gets done banning sex education. Abstinece only. Fer sure.

Right. Whatever.

What the hell is wrong with women?! It’s O’dark:30 and I am laying in bed next to a CRAZ

What the hell is wrong with women?! It's O'dark:30 and I am laying in bed next to a CRAZY woman! She woke up today in some kinda foul mood. I ask her what's wrong, several times and she replies: nothing, I'm fine, I'm ok, I'm just not in a happy/smiling mood today....WHATEVER.

There is clearly something wrong with ole girl but I figure, let me steer clear of her and try to enjoy my Labor Day. If only I knew the "labor" would be in trying to figure out the madness of you females. I'm getting off track. Anyway, the day goes on, we are lounging around the house, watching tv, playing with the dog, sleeping, etc. There's obvious tension on her end, but I feel I did my required checking on her to see what was wrong. It's real childish to be sitting around the house sulking and not talking about the shit. But I figure she'll come around, we'll talk about whatever imaginary Boogie Man is in her head and keep it moving.

Out of nowhere, she asks me: You got something you wanna tell me? *I smell a set up* I say NOPE. ~side note~ I went out last nite, rode my bike, hit up Frozen Palace flirted with some chicks, took some pics and then went home to my nutso girlfriend. She knows when I go out, I'm gonna get my flirt on. But I leave it at that....honestly.......I swear......stop laughing, I'm serious! So as I am sitting on my bike, I see this girl with the biggest hairdo I've ever seen. It was like a combo of Chaka and that Badu wig. Hairdo aside, shawty had a banging body! She had on a wife beater, low rise jeans; her lil pelvic bone was peeking out of the top of the jeans and winking at me. She was one sexy mutha....I'm shutting my mouth. Shawty Big Hair is making her way thru the parking lot, weaving around the parked bikes, drooling men and ice dagger stares being thrown by the women. SBH makes her way to my bike on her way into to Frozen. I feel compelled to say something. Blame it on ADD, OCD, Turret's, whatever. So I say: Hey, you don't know me, but I think I love you! Corny, I know. But keep in mind, I can't hit her with the real Pimp Talk, cuz I flirt and leave it alone....for real...all that giggling has got to stop! Anyway, Big Hair gives me a polite giggle and comes over shakes my hand. She introduced herself and I returned the favor. Then she says: What part of town you stay on? Bad grammer aside, I was thinking: Why you wanna know that, you trying to come over?!

We talk for another 2-3 mins, take a pic together (I had to get proof of the big hair!), and she goes inside Frozen and I stay outside, posted up on my bike and do what I do. SBH's face was about a 6, but her body was a12.5! I wish I coulda got more pics of her. But she got devoured as soon as she set foot inside Frozen Palace. She was never to be seen again.

I had a pretty good nite, so I finish my ride, meet up with my ole lady and tell her about my evening, Shawty Big Hair included. Even showed her the pic. *See, I aint got nothin' to hide. I flirt and keep it moving* Ole lady and I talk some more about our day/evening, watch some tv and go to bed. No signs of drama or craziness.

Now, back to set up question...I can't act like I aint never asked a chick the very same question, but when I do it, I'm waiting to see if she's gonna lie or not. Please believe I don't just ask, I got PROOF! As soon as she comes out the mouth wrong, I pull out the smoking gun and be like: What the fuck is THIS?! Like Oran Juice Jones, singing I saw you and him, walking in the rain.

After I assure her I don't have anything to tell her, she hits me with a secondary set up question: When you're out flirting, is it appropriate to give your number out? The obvious answer is NO and that's what I said. She pretty much dropped the topic and went back into that sulk/scheming mode. I was confused, but I figure if she wants to talk, then she'll open her mouth.

Fast forward to about an hr ago. I'm laying in bed, she's sleeping or pretending to sleep or whatever it is you women do when you're plotting. I try to not go to bed with beef in the air, so I tap her on the shoulder and ask if she's grown the fuck up and wants to talk now. She gives me more bullshit, then FINALLY says some shit about me hanging out last nite, flirting and showing her the pic........really? stop playing. We spent the whole day not speaking and avoiding one another over THAT?! you can't be serious. I need you to stop playing...not now, but RIGHT NOW!

What is the problem here? What am I missing? I know she's from Venus and I'm from Mars, but dammit I consider myself fluent in Venetian. She's speaking a language I am unfamiliar with. She's speaking "female".

I think there's more to what she's tripping off of, so there may be a part two to this blog entry.

Oh, I almost forgot, here's Shawty Big Hair...keep in mind, It like 10pm and my boy Steve doesn't know how to work my camera.

*UPDATE* I go get the SD card out of my camera to post the pic and the pic is deleted from my camera/card. Of course I wake ole girl up and ask her what happened to the pic. She said she deleted it, cuz she was "mad".....what part of the game is this?! What's really going on here. I need two things: 1) I need one of you Venus types to explain to me what I am missing and 2) I need you to hold the hand of the person next to you and say a prayer in agreement that I don't catch a charge tonite...

Thank y'all for coming out. God bless. Good nite.

Apparently, there is no natural garbage dump on earth? There appears to be consequences to polluting rivers, lakes, forests and the air. One river gained the attention of America by "striking back at its pollution". The river attempted to incinerate its garbage. The river "caught fire".

From Wikipedia:

The Cuyahoga River[6] (pronounced /ˌkaɪəˈhɔgə/, or kuy-a-HAW-ga) is located in Northeast Ohio in the United States. Outside of Ohio, the river is most famous for being "the river which caught fire", helping to spur the environmental movement in the late 1960s. Native Americans called this winding water "Cuyahoga," which means "crooked river" in the Iroquois language...

Environmental concerns

Fires plagued the Cuyahoga River beginning in 1936 when a spark from a blow torch ignited floating debris and oils. The largest river fire in 1952 caused over $1 million in damage to boats and a riverfront office building.[7] Fires erupted on the river several more times before June 22, 1969, when a river fire captured the attention of Time magazine, which described the Cuyahoga as the river that "oozes rather than flows" and in which a person "does not drown but decays."[8]

The 1969 Cuyahoga River fire helped spur an avalanche of water pollution control activities resulting in the Clean Water Act, Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, and the creation of the federal and state Environmental Protection Agency. As a result, large point sources of pollution on the Cuyahoga have received significant attention from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency in recent decades. These events are referred to in Randy Newman's 1972 song "Burn On", R.E.M.'s 1986 song "Cuyahoga", and Adam Again's 1992 song "River on Fire".

Water quality has improved and, in recognition of this improvement, the Cuyahoga River was designated as one of 14 American Heritage Rivers in 1998. Pollution remains, however, including nonpoint source problems, combined sewer overflows,[9] and stagnation due to water impounded by dams. For this reason, the Environmental Protection Agency classified portions of the Cuyahoga River Watershed as one of 43 Great Lakes Areas of Concern.

Lake Erie

Water quality

Lake Erie infamously became very polluted in the 1960s and 1970s. The water quality deteriorated due to increasing levels of the nutrient phosphorus in both the water and lake bottom sediments. The resultant high nitrogen levels in the water caused eutrophication, which resulted in algal blooms. Algae masses and fish kills increasingly fouled the shoreline during this period, but a 1969 Time magazine article about a fire on the Cuyahoga River, a tributary feeding the lake at Cleveland, Ohio so embarrassed officials that the United States Congress quickly passed the Clean Water Act of 1972.[13] Also in 1972, an agreement between Canada and the United States significantly reduced the dumping and runoff of phosphorus into the lake. The lake has since become clean enough to allow sunlight to infiltrate its water and produce algae and sea weed, but a dead zone persists in the central Lake Erie Basin during the late summer. The United States Environmental Protection Agency is currently studying this cyclic phenomenon.[14]

Since the 1970s environmental regulation has led to a great increase in water quality and the return of economically important fish species such as walleye and other biological life.[15]

BP Refinery Expansion Plan Sparks Opposition

by David Schaper

All Things Considered, August 14, 2007 · Oil giant BP's plan to expand its Whiting, Ind., refinery, just across the border from Chicago, is sparking a firestorm of opposition.

The expansion would allow BP to refine heavy Canadian crude oil, boosting gasoline production at the fourth largest refinery in the U.S. and reducing the nation's reliance on Middle Eastern oil.

But along with higher refining capacity, the plan spells an increase in the amount of pollution the oil company dumps into Lake Michigan. When the expansion is completed in four years, BP will be allowed to increase its discharges of ammonia into the lake by 54 percent and its discharges of suspended solids by 35 percent.

Critics say the suspended solids are essentially diluted sludge and could contain fine particles of toxic heavy metals, such as lead, nickel, even mercury.

"This is the source of drinking water for nearly 8 million people here at the south end of Lake Michigan," says Lee Botts, who founded a regional anti-pollution group in the early 1970s. "The Great Lakes cannot be a sink for pollution and survive to be the source for drinking water and the habitat for life in the lake that we want it to be..."

I'm back! RL did not completely swallow me and I've even had the chance to dash around the Hair Fair sims during the last 24 hours. I don't know if there were big crowds at the beginning but I have certainly found things pretty quiet down there.

The Expo does provide an easy way to check out new hair makers and there were I few I was not familiar with. I was impressed with Find Ash amongst others, but did not include them here as I got on a bit of a roll with my bangs theme!

Cuteness is my new fave thing and it's pursuit has guided my choices here. It's also an opportunity to show you some of the new things I've acquired for my wardrobe since the last post.

I kind of wish there was more exclusive/limited edition work at Hair fair - Torrid Midnight's Fedora styles are an example, but I have to say I found it enjoyable nevertheless and was really impressed with the organisation that went into making demos available in advance and providing such a reliable bank of SLurls at the website - congratulations to all involved!

I was a little disappointed that some of my favorite designers were absent - mainly the Japanese kind such as Waka + Yuki who currently have most dos on sale for L$30 at their store. I've thrown one in here as an example to encourage you to take a look in spite of possible "hair fatigue".

Ok - time for the visuals!

Nary a half hour ago, I was in fear of a confrontation. Let me lay down the setting for this bizarre twist of events.

As I am currently doing, I was typing on Jenouvie's laptop and I recieved a call on the work phone. After answering it, the person on the other end begins a bit of frustrated dialogue.

"Hey, I was there not long ago and I think I left my wallet on pump 1. Would it be a problem if you were to go check and see if it's still there?"

"Yeah. Sure. Not a problem. Hold on a second."

"Ok."

(Commencing is a 3 minute long search of pump one involving looking on top the pump, on the adjacent pump, in the trash can and on the ground.)

"Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find..."

"Are you sure!?"

"Yes. I even luked in the trash can, dude."

"Did you find it?"

"No."

"What did you see in the trash can?"

"An empty pack of Kools and some empty ice bags."

"Aw, man. I don't smoke Kools. Do you smoke Kools?"

"No."

"Are you sure you didn't find it?"

"Yes. I'm positive and I'm sorry. I feel your loss. I've had my wallet stolen at least 3 times before. Each and every time, I lost all the cash that I had."

"You sound like you're being honest with me, but I just don't know. I've heard that people from Ossian are crooks. Did you're parents raise you right?"

"Yes. I don't see what my parents have to do with this, and I'd suggest you leave them out of it."

"WELL WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!? I HAD $3000 IN THAT WALLET!!"

"I don't know."

"Have you had any more customers come in since I was there?"

"I'd say about 3, I guess."

"3!? You're telling me you've only had 3 customers in there since I left 20 minutes ago?"

"I'd consider that quite productive for 3rd shift."

"Even with Ossian Days coming up?"

"Yes...Hold on. I'll be right back."

At this point, LC, our stocking/outdoor maintenance guy shows up. I tell him the situation and ask if he had seen a wallet out on pump one. He says no and we proceed to look a second time to no avail.

"Our cleaning guy just showed up and we both looked again. I asked him if he'd seen it and your wallet still hasn't shown up. I'm sorry."

"What's his name?"

"Not that it's a concern, but his name's LC."

"And what's your name"

"Jack."

"Do you or anyone else there have a criminal record?"

"No. Why?"

"Like I said, I've heard that people from Ossian are crooks. Do you have any surveillance that would be able to prove that no one took it?"

"Not on the outside, no."

"You don't have any cameras outside!?"

"No."

"Well, I'm on my way there. I'm on I-69 and I'm turning around. I'm going to find it even if I have to pat you down."

"Ok. 'Bye."

*click*

After this beauty of a conversation, I inform LC and our cleaning lady, S as to what happened. I then call my boss and inform her. She tells me that if I feel threatened, to call the police. Then Jenouvie calls as she is wont to do and I tell her of the situation. She gets worried and tells me to call her back after everything's done just to make sure that I'm ok. Not long after this, TH shows up and upon relaying the story to him, he takes a tire iron out of his car and rests it on the counter inside. Not 5 minutes after he pulled in, 2 police officers show up who I assumed were called by my boss. I let them know what's going down and we wait.

10 minutes go by when I'm ushered inside by LC and S saying that I have a phone call. It's the asshole from earlier.

"Listen, Jack. I just found my wallet. I went to Fisher's and found it hanging off my Lexus' antenna. Apparently, I'd left it on the roof. Sorry for the trouble. 'Bye."

Long story short, sometimes my job fucking blows.

I needed a change of scenery... I'd already been considering either building myself a new house (bad idea) or buying a new prefab (good idea) just to shake things up. Yeah, I'm boring, that shakes things up for me. Anyways, I saw this amazing prefab from Alice's Garden over on Virtually Dressed so I pretty much insta tp'd over there to check them out. All of them were so awesome, I bemoaned my lack of land since just looking at most of them I knew I couldn't fit them on my teeny plot. But luckily, the Garden Shed was just right. I have to say, I'm a fan of worn looking textures and the ones used on these prefabs are particularly awesome. The shed is no mod/no copy but for the price (L$ 199) and cuteness, I totally was willing to overlook that and now that I've got it set up, I just love it... and I got to finally use my CSR gifts from HPMD and MilcaHolic which just didn't quite go in my last skybox. Yay!

Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund

Dear Sue,

A few hours ago, the news broke that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has been selected by Sen. John McCain as the vice presidential candidate for the Republican ticket.

As a Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund supporter, you are no doubt aware of Governor Palin's dismal record, from her staunch support for special interests and Big Oil to her terrible assault on wolves and other wildlife.

As much of the nation wonders just who Sarah Palin is, I wanted to pass along my statement that I've just released.

Please read it and pass it along to everyone you know.

Thanks for your continued support,

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 29, 2008

Shocking Choice by John McCain

WASHINGTON-- Senator John McCain just announced his choice for running mate: Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. To follow is a statement by Rodger Schlickeisen, president of Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.

"Senator McCain's choice for a running mate is beyond belief. By choosing Sarah Palin, McCain has clearly made a decision to continue the Bush legacy of destructive environmental policies.

"Sarah Palin, whose husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum), has repeatedly put special interests first when it comes to the environment. In her scant two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, pushed for more drilling off of Alaska's coasts, and put special interests above science. Ms. Palin has made it clear through her actions that she is unwilling to do even as much as the Bush administration to address the impacts of global warming. Her most recent effort has been to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list, putting Big Oil before sound science. As unbelievable as this may sound, this actually puts her to the right of the Bush administration.

"This is Senator McCain's first significant choice in building his executive team and it's a bad one. It has to raise serious doubts in the minds of voters about John McCain's commitment to conservation, to addressing the impacts of global warming and to ensuring our country ends its dependency on oil."

###

The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund (www.defendersactionfund.org) provides a powerful voice in Washington to Americans who value our conservation heritage. Through grassroots lobbying, issue advocacy and political campaigns, the Action Fund champions those laws and lawmakers that protect wildlife and wild places while working against those that do them harm.

The price of petrol is going up once again. You'd think that especially now, when you are almost paying an arm and a leg for petrol the service will be efficient. For Thabo's sake, a full tank of petrol is equivalent to a new dvd player or TV. Every time I go to this one petrol station, I just want to scream at their lethargy. They seriously need some competition. They are so slow and unfriendly. I find the red kind all over town has the same bad service, they have a star on their badge for nothing. I also noticed the blue brand is much friendlier and faster and more efficient. Every time I went to one of their stations 2 or 3 people run to help especially in Tshwane. I have been to a few blue ones and the service was consistent. Let's take a poll: which petrol station has the best service? Engen BP Shell Caltex Sasol Total
