CADAQUESENQUES - Edicions del Cotal, 1984/ 1ª ed. 1930

Víctor Rahola, fill de Cadaqués i metge de professió, va publicar el 1930 aquest recull de poemes, prologat per Eduardo Marquina, i il·lustrat a la ploma per U. Tous.

Són poemes amb mètrica modernista, i la majoria recreen situacions relacionades amb el poble. "Els crespells", "El banc d'en Sinofós", "A una peixetera", "En Tano dels Roures", "El doll", "El bany de la Nurieta"..., tots són poemes d'una gran frescor i, al mateix temps, amb una mètrica molt acurada.

Les ateliers de cuisine ont permis au nombreux public de cotoyer les grands chefs (près de 100 chefs étoilés de tous pays ...) Marc Veyrat était  l'invité d'honneur. Moment de passion le dimanche soir à la soirée organisée au restaurant Le Park à Mougins où il a défendu le BIO comme sur France Bleu !! 

this was our second visit to barcelona, first time on our own without the children, and the city was different. we had a chance to visit sites that weren't defined as "attractions". it wasn't a race from one "extraordinary" place to another. it was a stroll in the city, allowing the atmosphere to sink in, the people to register in our conciousness, and a chance for us to enjoy all barcelona has to offer.

the next morning we picked up a rented car and started out north along the costa brava. the weather was beautiful and landscapes fantastic. we stopped at roses for lunch and instead of choosing a restaurant on the tourist packed waterfront, we walked into the inner streets through narrow alleys, looking for a place where the "native catalans" eat.

isn't it great when you can't speak the local language and the locals don't want to make the effort to speak yours?!

we made a few more stops along the way and finally arrived to our hotel in perpignan.

perpignan is an interesting city! it's much larger than i thought but we constrained our wandering to the old city where visa pour l'image was taking place. narrow streets and alleys, colorful buildings, and intersting people in what our hotel owner called the gypsy quarter.

the 2nd week of visa is quiet. very quiet! no crowds at exhibitions. almost no restaurants open after 19:00. perpignan in the evening is a ghost town. we mentioned this to our hotel owner. he said the french worked hard all day, were very tired, and went to bed early. i'm not surprised they get so tired speaking french all day!

visa exhibitions were very interesting! most of them located in old buildings in perpignan, cracked walls, pealing paint, arched halls - what an atmosphere!

i saw many familiar works by ziv koren, menachem kahana and brent stirton in the agency french press 20-year exhibition and canon's ambassadors exhibition. but there were also new findings.

i was not previously familiar with the work of paula bronstein but found her project of modern day afghanistan (2001-2008), displayed at couvent sainte claire, amazing! not only is it an excellent job of photojournalism, telling a story, but each photo on its own is worthy of artistic merit. graphically captivating images, even if you don't read the captions and you're not too sure what it is you are viewing. much like the style of brent stirton in this regard - almost as though she directs her photos and journalism.

and on the other hand, axelle de russe's "china - the return of the concubine", displayed in castillet. the photos are good but not breathtaking - not because de russe didn't do a good job, but because the subject matter has its limitations. but her photojournalism is facsinating! viewing the photos and reading the captions i found  myself captivated by very interesting journalism - a strong story very well told!

pierre gonnord's "the portrait test" at eglise des dominicains has a striking presence! a small number of huge portraits of extraordinary quality and character portraying the gypsy community of perpignan. i find it difficult to connect gonnord's work to journalism but enjoyed viewing the photos non the less.

S’Alqueria affiche sa profondeur - couleur et sa culture régionale d’une matière très appuyée,- il me parait fondamental que ce vin soit un vrai vin Català et ne ressemble à RIEN d'autre, qu'il soit en fait le reflet le plus exact de ce terroir d'exception - en ayant l’intelligence de ne pas tomber dans la caricature sphérique et creuse.

Un nez profond,- parfums de fruits rouges frais, notes de grillé, toasté - impression de fraîcheur, - avec une pointe mentholée assez discréte - touche de rusticité contrôlée, un fruité en puissance, garrigue à l’affût.- puissant, soyeux et délicat - pas facile à réaliser !.....parfums de garrigue à profusion .. venez vous promener dans le parc naturel du Cap de Creus ou Parc natural del Cap de Creus et vous comprendrez ! ( ça vous changeras des rues de New-York , London, Tokyo ou Paris !!)

Bouche retenue au départ, profonde et verticale, s’allonge fortement à l’aération pour donner une superbe impression de « fluidité » musclée. Ce vin est fait pour être bu au cours d'un repas avec des plats méditerranéens, il doit donc se boire avec plaisir et une bouteille vide est le meilleur témoin, d'où cette sapidité, cette fluidité sans concession pour sa  personnalité, ce caractère. Les tanins à point sont présents en permanence, mais la structure fournie, presque grasse contribue nécessairement à la notion d’équilibre que ce vin dégage. Evidemment l'équilibre, l'élégance sont des notions, des impressions, des sensations, trés personnelles et je revendique une influence de certains Grands Couturiers: Jean-Paul Gaultier, Yves-Saint Laurent, Christian Lacroix, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, comme d'Artistes tels Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel ou Josep Plà.. dans le style du vin que je fais.  

Ce vin n'est pas un jus de raisin fermenté...c'est un concentré de parfums, de sensations, d'émotions, de plaisirs à partager - impérativement - avec des passionnés...de Cadaqués !  

Ce commentaire de dégustation est rédigé conjointement avec en italique les commentaires de Gérard M. - Chef Sommelier,  d'un des plus grands groupes de restauration français, et mes observations, en caractére normal, gras. Prenez beaucoup de plaisir avec cette superbe bouteille !

He had offered this painting to my parents to thanks them for their welcoming. We have seen each other since. Fred is also a painter and do expositions in Dinard or Paris at "Musée de la Marine". Depsues de 25 años encuentro esta pintura i depsues el pintor: Frederic Laboria un amigo desde cuasi siempre. Habia regalado esta pintura a mis padres. Nos hemos encuentrado de nuevo, que bien ! So, last weekend 3 friends of mine and I rented a car with the intension of exploring Spain. As our range was limited to about a radius of 400 km with Barcelona being the center we have opted for discovering Cadaques and its breathtaking environment.
What we have found was way beyond our expectations: the scenery, the fresh air, the clean sea, the spirit of this little town; somehow hiding between the large mountains of Cataluña and the mediterranean sea. Its a bit like a miracle. It is adored by many tourists, but yet it still managed to preserve its image of exclusivity and class, as only the very well informed get the chance to experience this little piece of heaven.
We had lunch at a small restaurant on the shore, tried some local specialities, I wish I remembered their names...maybe next time I go there. Because Im definitely returning.
After lunch, we got back in the car and drove down to Roses, one of Spain's amazing beaches. Due to the fact that it lies in a small bay the water is still as if it were a lake, however it is also as cold as one. Pure sandy beach, plenty of space for eveyone, with sunset that would inspire many painters and poets...

Després de 36 anys, el Festival Internacional de Música de Cadaqués inicia una nova etapa marcada per l'obertura musical, el canvi d'ubicació i un salt qualitatiu en la programació. El 37.1 Festival Internacional de Música de Cadaqués, organitzat per l'Ajuntament de Cadaqués i dirigit pel músic i compositor Saki Guillem, se celebrarà del 2 al 10 d'agost i l'escenari principal se situarà a la platja de Sa Conca amb la presència de músics referents de diferents gèneres musicals com Carlos Nuñez, Raimon, Carles Benavent, Brad Mehldau, Llibert Fortuny, Cris Juanico i l'espectacle "Alchemy" amb The Dufay Collective i Alquimia. El festival no s'oblida de la música clàssica pel que també acollirà l'actuació de l'Orquestra de Cambra de Berlín i la interpretació de la "Història del soldat", d'Igor Stravinski, dirigida per Joan Albert Amargós.

De fet teníem pensat fer aquesta ruta en dos dies, no pas per lo llarga que és (17 km, unes cinc horetes), sino per dormir en el refugi de cala Prona, una antiga barraca de pescadors que ara està oberta com a refugi per a excursionistes. Al final per uns problemes logístics d'última hora la vam fer d'un dia, i cap problema.

La ruta comença a El Port de la Selva, un poble que tot i la seva important actvitat turística manté l'encant d'un passat dedicat a la pesca i la vinya. Allà heu de dirigir-vos cap a la zona del port, i ja veureu un camí on comença el GR-11 amb les clàssiques marques blanques i vermelles. De fet aquesta ruta és l'última etapa del GR-11, així que la podreu seguir mot fàcilment. Allà fareu un tram per l'asfalt de la carretera, però ja aquests primers metres deixa entreveure vistes de gran bellesa amb els penyasegats típics de la Costa Brava més brava. Aviat entrereu a la zona del Parc Natural del Cap de Creus, que té la seva seu central al Monsestir de Sant Pere de Rodes.

A partir d'allà us endinseu al Cap de Creus propiament. Lo bonic del lloc és que es tracta d'un paissatge muntanyos-rural amb vegetació típica mediterrania de gran bellesa i sense patir la destrucció habitual de la costa. El fet d'estar molt aillat en quan a comunicacions fins fa poc i ser declarat Parc Natural l'ha protegit de la destrucció típica. Per això hi ha cales de somni totalment verges, amb masos a escassos metros i caballs pasturant. Al llarg del recorregut es veuen innumerables restes de l'antiga vida al camp avui ja molt minsa, amb moltes terrasses antigament conreades de vinya. Ara només en queden algunes mostres pels més romàntics.

Tot seguint les marques del GR-11, en quaslevol moment, podeu deixar el camí girant a mà esquerra per baixar a alguna de les moltes cales que trobeu, tornant a retrobar el GR més endavant. Repeteixo que la ruta no ressegueix la costa com si fos un camí de ronda, però hi podeu accedir quan vulgueu. Nosaltres ho vam fer a Cala Tavallera, allà vam dinar i vam poder pensar amb el bany que faríem si fes més caloreta... La major part de cales no estan marcades sobre el terreny, així que su recomano que su compreu el mapa oficial del Parc, que podreu trobar a la seva seu.

Cal destacar també les formacions rocoses que trobeu pel camí. Degut al vent gairebé constant que hi ha fa i als materials dels que estan formades les roques (molta roca volcànica) es creen formes molt curioses que sovint recorden formes animals, i si teniu bona vista fins hi tot en podeu trobar algunes d'elles que surten als quadres de Dalí.

La veritat és que arribar a la punta del Cap de Creus té un valor especial. És un lloc de pel·lícula. El paissatge rocós mig marcià es barreja amb la sensació d'estar a "la fi del món". La sensació de "per aquí ja no hi ha res més" és si més no curiosa i difícil d'explicar. Allò és el final, el final de tot. Com no podia ser d'altra manera al costat del far hi ha un excel·lent bar que tot i els intents de dissimular-ho manté un aire típic de taberna amb aspiracions turístiques. A l'estiu no us hi acosteu, està absolutly full.

A partir de la punta del Cap de Creus podeu seguir fins a Portlligat, si voleu. No cal que ho allargeu fins a Cadaqués, a no ser que us agradi passar pel mig d'urbanitzacions. Per si no ho havieu notat la ruta no és circular, així que cal tenir un cotxe a cada extrem. Tampoc no hi ha fonts pel camí, per tant porteu força aigua perque quan el sol apreta és que apreta... Potser no he expllicat la ruta amb massa detall, però hi ha varis llocs a internet que si que ho fan, doncs com ja he dit és l'última etapa del popular GR 11. Aviat faré una altra ruta per anar fins al monestir de Sant Pere de Rodes, ja l'explicaré. Fent aquesta ruta només el veureu de lluny, de molt lluny, el suficient per fer-vos venir ganes de fer una ruta específica per passar-hi per davant.

J'avais commis une erreur (grave) dans le précédent article où je disais que Breton était aussi venu à Cadaquès.,

Ce n'était pas une erreur. Parce que je n'arrivais pas à retrouver l'épisode dans la biographie écrite par Mark Polizzotti, pavé de 842 pages, j'avais cru m'être trompée. C'est en lisant l'album Breton de la Pléiade que j'ai eu la confirmation que l'idée que Breton était allé à Cadaquès n'était pas fausse. Il n'y pas de photo de ce séjour, comme preuve, il n'y a que ce cadavre exquis fait par Dalì, Gala, Breton et Valentine Hugo en mars 1932.
Alors, je me suis remise à chercher dans cette mine énorme qu'est la biographie de Breton, la description de l'épisode. La chronologie n'y est pas toujours évidente, mais j'ai enfin retrouvé ce passage :

Valentine Hugo, elle, voit sa faveur rapidement décliner. Le lendemain de la démission d'Aragon, le vendredi 11 mars, belle mais froide journée, Valentine a entraîné son amant désemparé loin de la scène de ses tourments, vers Cadaquès où ils doivent rendre visite à Dalì et Gala. Le samedi le temps change il se met à tomber une pluie glacée et, un pneu étant crevé, leur voiture manque de verser dans le fossé. À l'hôtel, le soir, Breton peut-être reconnaissant à Valentine d'être encore en vie, lui fait l'amour de façon passionnnée - "la tête de Vercingétorix", précisera-t-elle dans son journal par allusion à l'une des positions décrites dans l'Immaculée Conception : "Lorsque l'homme est debout et que la femme repose le haut de son corps sur le lit, ses cuisses enserrant la taille de l'homme."
Mais de tels moments d'harmonie sont rares. Après un bref séjour chez Dalì - dont la seule trace est peut-être un cadavre exquis à quatre mains dessiné au dos d'une carte postale - le couple regagne la France fin mars et part pour la Côte d'Azur rendre visite à Éluard et Nusch. L'humeur de Breton, à l'instar du temps, s'assombrit...

Voici donc comment est raconté au milieu des 842 pages de cette biographie le séjour de Breton à Cadaquès. Un peu succinct, non ?

Cadaques has some excellent restaurants which serve really fresh fish. Our favorites are Es Baluard, Can Rafa and Can Tito. Sometimes we go to Casa Anita and the new (ish) Can Shelabi. We adore the lighthouse at Cap de Creus and, like everyone else, we spend a lot of time in the Cafe Maritim.

Colllioure, France ~  Medieval coastal village 45 minutes to the north of Cadaques [2 1/2 from Barcelona], just past the French border. Summer home at one time of Picasso, Derain, Matisse and Chagall. Famous for its pink "hue", zoning requires every home to be pink. Apparently the music festival is in August, but on July 14th they have a large Bastille Day celebration with fireworks out in the bay.
 
Perpignan, France ~ Largest city in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, and the capital at one time of the Catalonian Kingdom. About 45 minutes from Cadaques taking the freeway [2 1/2 from Barcelona]. You can still visit the Palace of the Catalan Kings and its fortified ramparts. It has a wonderful music/ballet/opera festival that runs through July called "Estivales". [estivales.com]  The website seems to only be in French, so you may have to call and ask for English support.
 
Festival Castell de Perelada ~ [festivalperelada.com] Housed in the town castle, the programming is wonderful. This year I would probably recommend La Boheme on July 25, 27, or the Night of Catalan Music July 26. The castle houses a high-end casino, which cannot be entered without a suit and tie. There is a restaurant that serves dinner before showtime out in the courtyard, but it can be expensive and not the greatest. Within walking distance is a unique and amazing restaurant called Cal Sagrista, just passed the church. Enjoy a traditional Catalan meal in a village setting, overlooking the rolling green hills of the five star Perelada Golf Club. [For reservations call 972.538.301]
 
Cadaques ~ Around town I recommend having an afternoon beer or coffee on Cap de Creus, in the lighthouse. Furthest point east of mainland Spain. Within walking distance of the house is Dali's former home which is now a museum. Definite must. Reservations must be made at least a day ahead of time. Alternatively is the Dali museum in Figueres, where he is buried. Figueres is about a 35 minute drive from Cadaques. 20 minutes outside Cadaques is the next village of Port de La Selva. Very pretty town on a huge protected bay famous for windsurfing. On the hill overlooking the town is the Monastery Sant Pere de Rodes. Very impressive. Views are amazing. Just past Port de La Selva, and the next town of Llanca, is a turnout to Playa Garbet. Its in the middle of nowhere, but the restaurant is very high-end, and the ambience is truly relaxing on the beach, sitting on the sand, enjoying cava and some foie-gras.
 
Roses ~ Down the hill from Cadaques is the larger town of Roses. Not very pretty in its own right, but you can drive to Cala Montjoi which is a small cove reached by a harrowing valium-inducing drive through steep vineyards. In the cove sits a very modest building that for the third year has been named the best restaurant in the world. [El Bulli] Chef Ferran Adria. 15 minutes past Roses is the town of Castello d'Empuries, which is an entire Roman village that is still pretty much in tact, overlooking the Mediterranean. It is very interesting and a MUST see for historians or Roman artifact lovers. The mosaic tiled floors are enough to make you gasp in awe.
 
Girona ~ Capital city of the northern most Catalan province in a small but beautiful setting. Its El Call district is the best preserved Jewish quarter in Spain, steps from the cathedral whose claim to fame is being the tallest of any baroque period church. Walking along the dark meandering streets of El Call you come across many specialty shops, pubs and wonderful restaurants.
 
Barcelona ~ I highly recommend going to the concierge or the nearest tourist office and ask about the several musical options. On the Ramblas is the old Opera house [El Liceu] which is amazing, shows weekly in July. There is the Auditori Nacional which houses the symphony orchestra. There is also the Palau de la Musica Catalana, which is a stellar example of Gaudi work, and even worth a tour during the day without going to a concert. Lastly, there is a classical and traditional Catalan music outdoor festival, held in July and August, in the courtyard adjacent to the Palace of the Catalan kings [Gothic Quarter].
