What You Should Know For Now-

• CASS Talentime Finals would be held on 20th October, 5pm to 7+pm. A mystery organisation could be attending to grace and capture the 1st ever CASS mega event. More would be revealed closer to the date. Goodie Bags and buffet provided! Keep that time slot free! Admission's free, unlike other Schools!
• Sports Day 2008's coming up! It's gonna be split into two days- 5th and 12 November 2008. We are currently looking for participants and cheering teams! Give us your contacts asap to secure a space in whichever area you are interested in! All attendees would be awarded CCA points! Yes, its as simple as that! What to expect? Mascot races.. Our mascot happens to be an ostrich. Don't ask me why.
• Dinner and Dance for graduating batch. Its either going to be a DMC year 3 only function or a merger with SB. Currently undergoing intense discussions.
• Year Book. Undergoing mental make-overs to make it different from other Schools'. Searching for sponsors and wicked venues within the school to have the shoots.

Still, to be singled out as the favorite street band of Sasha Frere-Jones, the music reporter for The New Yorker, as he recently did on his blog, has got to be the sort of endorsement that every street musician is hoping to land—particularly when his word is given that your new ten-inch vinyl release "is worth whatever you pay for it." Frere-Jones also reports, with a bit of our shared disappointment, that Hypnotic is no longer playing the streets: they are strictly a club act now. And they plan to ride their success all the way to Fela Kuti's "Felebration" in Lagos, Nigeria this October. Wish we could make it to that show!

While it's a shame that we won't be catching them on a public boardwalk any time soon, it's great to hear that Hypnotic is doing so well. Here is a video for their studio recording called “War.”

Filmul, la fel ca si precedentele care au tratat subiectul huliganilor, nu trateaza numai violenta huliganilor ci vorbeste despre relatii adevarate de prietenie, despre un adevarat cod de onoare si nu in ultimul rand despre familie.

We cabbed it to the stadium where Jami, Krysten, and I met up with a couple Canadians, a teacher from the South, and a Korean teacher.  Stepping out of the cab we are barraged by Korean vendors selling Kimchi, fried chicken, and beer.  Lots of beer.  I stayed away from the beer, having gone out the night before.  Plus Korean beer makes you poo in the morning.  It tastes ok, but if you have too much you will definitely pay with a nice case of bubble guts in the morning.  So today, no Cass, no Hite; just a coke for me please.

One of the vendors ran up to me and handed me enough tickets to get in, and then promptly went back to her vending.  I was a little confused about what to do.  Do I pay?  Do I walk right in to the stadium?  The Korean teacher Rasmus (his English name, I forgot his real name) didn't know what to do either.  After a discussion on how strange it was for someone to hand me tickets and then walk away (about ten minutes), the vendor came back telling me what we owed.  5 tickets for the Kia game, 30 dollars.  Actually 30,000 won, but it basically breaks down to about a dollar per 1,000.  So 6 bucks for a night of entertainment is not bad.  Oh, I also buy some power stix before I go in for 2 dollars, I want to take part in the experience (see videos).

We go in, and unfortunately we pick a seat on the visitors side.  It does give us a good view of the action though.  The Tigers get killed, 10-2 against the Busan Giants.  It was 6-2 before I left to take a video of the home side action, but Busan somehow scored 4 runs in a matter of 5 minutes.  Its ok, the crowd was definately more exciting than the game.

As we were walking to the home bleachers, I stopped by the Kia store and bought a couple of souveniers (no spoiler today, because some of them are gifts for people back home.) The hats were the most expensive thing there, standing at 33 dollars.  Everything else, fairly cheap and reasonable.  That is pretty much just like everything here in Korea: some items are rediculously overprices, while other things are underpriced (by Western standards).

Famously the first person to get handed a long term sentence under Maggie Thatcher's crackdown on football hooligans; ICF member Cass Pennant's autobiography has been turned into a film. Cass is in selected cinemas now.

Cass has been described by some as one of the hardest men in England. He is 6 foot 4 in height quite bulky (I'm 5.6 look tiny next to him)

Meeting him I noticed he has a reserved quite demeanor about him, answering my questions honestly without gorifying his life as a notorious gang member. Cass said the message he wants people to be left with is that no matter how hard it is there is a way of getting out and turning your life around.

The film is based on his life and opened this weekend across the Country. I think it will shock you and show you how a young black guy survives racsism, getting shot dealing with identity issues and eventually sorting his life out!!

The number of participants was overwhelming and the first round of CASS Talentime audition went quite well indeed.

A hearty thank you to our two super duper [insert any nice words] judges as well as our dearest organisers for overseeing this event. We know you guys are tired, so heres a virtual hug from me!

The first group of people who had successfully passed the first audition has already been contacted. Buy more herbal drinks for your next round which will be held on 30th July, CASS studio, 3-5.30pm!

As for the others, don't be too disappointed. There will be other events coming up that you absolutely MUST join! After all, not everyone has talent in the same place. Take me for example, i can't sing for nuts.

We've just deployed a new set of changes to the site today. As mentioned before, we got a lot of great feedback from our first users, which we've put to good use. The site is looking a lot sleeker, the actions are a lot clearer, and generally it's gotten a lot more fun to use. I'm especially digging on all the new customization possibilities for each user's profile, song and playlist pages.

Also, we're totally stoked to see the first music uploads appearing. Thanks for using the site!

Speaking of wordpress, i have received some feedback regarding the fact that it is cumbersome to sign up for an account just to comment on this blog. (No wonder Matt, our Sports Head is the only one commenting here. =X) Unfortunately, there is no radio button for me to click to change the format.

So, i would really appreciate it if you could help me with this. Do you guys think there is a need to switch to another domain?

Firstly, i chose wordpress because of several benefits:

a) I can see the number of hits. its automatic. i do not need to copy and paste the code into any templates like blogspot.

b) I can see the statistical reports of blog views as well as how people get to know about this blog (whether they click any link to get here)

c) wordpress sounds more professional and corporate. There are such assumptions that blogspot is for private and social diaries, livejournal for e-shopping, and such.

d) Im a noob at D.I.Y stuff so wordpress is simpler and more user-friendly to me. Unless anyone wants to volunteer to help create a template for another domain?

There appear to be some errors in the form that we'd passed around to the respective class representatives the other time. Its supposed to be 7 guys, 3 girls per student team. We apologise for the mistake.

The forms have not been circulated among the year 1 DMCs as we yet have the opportunity to gatecrash your lecture. Hence, take a lookout for us at the beginning or end of your lecture next week. However, if there is not a suitable timeslot, we may get a few angels from your cohort to replace us in passing you guys the Poly 50 forms. So do keep your eyes peeled for those papers and get your name on it!

Here are some reasons why we think YOU should join this event:

For Year 1s-Get started in accumulating your CCA points! Don't wait until year 3 when you start to panic! Rumour has it that CCA points are not important and is not counted towards your University admission criteria anymore..........Hold it. We arent sure if its true or not. But even if it is true, a distinction in your CCA report will definitely looks better than someone with a C. Afterall, we have heard of cases whereby interviewers frequently pick someone who is active in some form of activities rather than a nerd. Think about it.

For Year 2s- Refer to above. For guys (and girls?), you will be having your NAPFA next year. Why not take this time to train and score CCA points at the same time?

For Year 3s- Refer to above. This may be the last time you get to exercise before you step into the hectic working life as well as probably your final chance to accumulate CCA points. Come on guys, help CASS run! It would be great if erm, you guys get something shiny after the race. *hint hint*

We especially delighted in Ben Adida's presentation on ccREL, a machine-readable code for licenses, which helps make CC licensing deeds understandable to both machines and humans (and, distantly down the line, even lawyers!) by implementing a language that makes sense to us all. This is especially great for music encoding because it allows people to unambiguously tag their digital song files with the proper title, creator, credits, license, etc. and have those designations carry on to any machine or human that comes across the file. We at Sutros instantly and wholeheartedly joined this bandwagon.

To read a more exacting play-by-play of the conference, check out CC's own TechBlog, which live blogged the proceedings. It was a great day, with lots of important ideas introduced and exchanged. Thanks, CC!

With regards to the first bulleted point, the AGM will be held on 2 July 2008, Wednesday, after 3pm. The specific time will be released school-wide at a later date.

The CASS AGM is one of the major events that will mark the start of a new club/school.

As mentioned during our (main committee members) clashes before/after your lectures (for year 2s and 3s), this AGM is VERY IMPORTANT and we need to gather AT LEAST 100 CASS students to attend.

If the above's requirement is not met, we would face the challenge of organising another AGM (chances are, the same people may not turn up), and we may be disqualified from getting an annual budget for our club. Meaning, ALL our activities will have to be paid by the participants and there will be NO amount sponsored by SAA.

These outcomes are really horrid. Hence, we would strongly appeal to everyone to encourage your classmates and friends to attend this AGM.

Attendance will be taken and CCA point(s) will be awarded.
