HBO lança 2ª temporada de "Filhos do Carnaval"
O canal por assinatura e a produtora 02 filmes, de Fernando Meirelles, fecharam o acordo para a nova etapa da série, que foi sucesso em 2006. Serão sete episódios (todos gravados no Rio), cada um com duração entre 50 e 55 minutos, e que serão exibidos durante 14 semanas. A direção geral será de Cao Hamburger.

CBS venderá 50 emissoras de rádio
A decisão foi tomada como forma de fortalecer o grupo. Essas emissoras estão presentes em 12 mercados nos Estados Unidos.

Lucros da TF1 caem
Maior TV privada da França viu seus lucros cairem 32,7% no primeiro semestre deste ano. Segundo a empresa, isso foi causado pela desaceleração da economia francesa e o aumento dos custos com a programação, especialmente devido à transmissão da Eurocopa.

Empresa sueca compra emissora na Bulgária
A MTG (Modern Times Group) comprou a búlgara Nova TV, que antes pertencia à Antenna Bulgaria, por US$ 980 milhões. A Nova TV é a vice-lider de audiência em seu país e atinge 18,2% de audiência entre o público na faixa dos 18 aos 49 anos.

Etats-Unis : PlasMedia choisit Helius, Accord CSB - EcoMedia

PlasMedia Productions a sélectionné les solutions logicielles d´Helius (Groupe Hugues) pour opérer son réseau d´affichage dynamique publicitaire déployé dans une centaine de centres commerciaux (comme le LifeStyle Center d´Austin, ci-dessous).

CBS Corp. va désormais agir en tant que régie publicitaire, sur les marchés locaux, des réseaux de kiosques et d´affichage dynamique d´EcoMedia. Les deux compagnies par ailleurs, poursuivront leur collaboration avec la société de production Worldwide Pants de David Letterman.

EcoMedia est une société opératrice de réseaux de digital signage consacrant la moitié de ses revenus publicitaires à des projets environnementaux, comme récemment la pose de panneaux solaires à Miami.

CBS Corporation to Acquire CNET Networks
CBS Corporation has entered into an agreement to acquire CNET Networks. It was announced today by Leslie Moonves, president and CEO, CBS Corporation. Under the terms of the agreement, CBS will make a cash tender offer for all issued and outstanding shares of CNET Networks for $11.50 per share, representing an equity value of approximately $1.8 billion.

The company says the acquisition will make it one of the 10 most popular Internet companies in the United States, with a combined 54 million unique users per month, and about 200 million users worldwide.

Based in San Francisco, CNET Networks owns many of the Internet's leading entertainment, news, and information sites including CNET, ZDNet, GameSpot.com, TV.com, mp3.com, CNET news.com, UrbanBaby, CHOW, Search.com, BNET, MySimon, and TechRepublic. In 2007, the company recorded revenues of $406 million.

Upon closing, CNET Networks' sites will be combined with CBS's interactive businesses. These include CBS.com, CBSSports.com, CBSCollegeSports.com, MaxPreps.com, CBSNews.com, last.fm, Wallstrip, MobLogic, CBS Radio, and CBS Television Stations digital media platforms.

Corporate Shift for the Sundance Channel

The Sundance Channel’s current owners are NBC Universal, the CBS Corporation and Robert Redford. Considering what an unusual partnership that is and that they did a pretty good job, I’m hesitant to freak out with the news that Cablevision just bought the channel.

The folks at Cablevision own Rainbow Media Holdings who in turn own AMC, IFC and WE tv. Robert Redford will still be involved in the network and current plans are not to merge the Sundance Channel with IFC.

We might have to wait to see what happens before we complain about seeing one of our favorites being bought. There’s no mention of the sale on the Sundance Channel web site as of today.

Etats-Unis : CBS Outdoor affiche un CA en hausse de 7% au Q1 2008

CBS Corporation a publié à titre du premier trimestre (Q1 2008 ) un chiffre d´affaires au même niveau que l´année passée à 3,65 milliards $ pour un résultat net en hausse de 14% à 244,3 millions $.

Dans le détail, concernant les trois principales divisions :

TV : Le CA est en progression de 1% à 2,60 milliards $ alors que le résultat d´exploitation s´envole (+15%) à 402,1 millions $. Une performance qui apparaît remarquable dans un contexte difficile (grève des scénaristes notamment).

Affichage : Le CA de CBS Outdoor s´est accru de 7% à 496,9 millions $, porté par :

- ses activités asiatiques et européennes (Royaume-Uni notamment) qui affichent une progression de +15%

- une amélioration en Amérique du Nord (+3%) malgré la perte de deux villes (Toronto et San Francisco).

Le résultat d´exploitation est en revanche en recul de 6% à 44,1 millions $.

Radio : La division continue de connaître des difficultés. Le CA accuse un repli de 9% à 363,5 millions $ pour un résultat d´exploitation en chute de 27% à 115 millions $.

Amérique du Sud : CBS rachète International Outdoor Advertising

CBS Corporation a acquis, pour 110 millions $ en cash, International Outdoor Advertising Group (IOA), un des leaders de l´affichage sud-américain.

Le groupe est, d´après le communiqué de presse, présent en Argentine, Brésil, Chili, et Uruguay (d´après le site du groupe sud-américain, il serait également présent au Mexique) où il opère un éventail de 17 000 éléments d´affichage sur les segments mobilier urbain, transport, kiosque et larges billboards extérieurs. Autant de supports susceptibles d´être convertis en numérique (d´après la description des produits proposés par le groupe, aucun ne semble proposer pour le moment d´affichage dynamique) par CBS.

Cette acquisition permet à la filiale affichage du groupe, CBS Outdoor, déjà présente dans le monde hispanique via ses actifs espagnols et mexicains, d´élargir son empreinte à l´Amérique du Sud.

Yesterday, many of the claims filed by Dan Rather in a $70 million lawsuit last September against the CBS Corporation were dismissed by Judge Ira Gammerman of the New York Supreme Court. The judge rejected Rather's claim of fraud against CEO, Leslie Moonves, Viacom-CBS Chairman, Sumner Redstone and former CBS News president, Andrew Heyward in addition to his assertion that the network made him the scapegoat involving the bru-ha-ha surrounding the 60 Minutes II use of controversial papers in the story about President Bush's National Guard service in the 1970s. The lawsuit further accused CBS of not giving him worthy assignments on CBS News programs following his resignation as anchor in March 2005. General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt is resisting calls to sell off NBC Universal. Investors' cries could grow louder if GE disappoints when it reports first-quarter earnings. General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt has so far resisted calls to sell NBC Universal.

A handful of media companies are gearing up to submit second round bids for the Weather Channel. Fewer than five companies are putting together the second-round bids. After airing only one episode Tuesday night, CBS cancelled the reality competition series Secret Talents of the Stars. The premiere/finale episode posted a 1.5/4 among A18-49. Starting next Tuesday, CBS will air 48 Hours Mystery in the 10p slot for two weeks then Shark returns with new episodes post-strike as of April 29. (Cynopsis 4/11)

Apparently, CBS' secret talent is cancelling shows.

Wednesday night's finale of High School Reunion (10p) on TV Land delivered a 0.5 rating and 560,000 viewers among A25-54. The program also averaged more than a million total viewers. (Cynopsis 4/11)

Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" will tape from Philadelphia next week, the show's first road trip, to cover Pennsylvania's pivotal Democratic primary on April 22. A new study from market research firm Centris says more than 9 million U.S. households are in "challenging reception areas" and could experience some reception problems after the February 2009 switch to all-digital TV. The report said about 17 million homes currently rely on analog signals and 54% of those -- 9.2 million -- will have problems because of land topography, tower distance and antenna quality.
