If you are looking to get away from the hassles of tandem skydiving, with someone strapped to your back while you experience the ultimate thrill, you might be inclined to look into getting certified. With a certified skydiving license from the United States Parachuing Association (USPA), you will be able to finally enjoy the wonders and sights of skydiving on your own terms.

However, the process to solo skydiving is not short. You will be required to to do at least 7 or 8 tandem skydives with a licensed instructor, assisting you over the course of a 7 level process.

The process includes:

Level 1: 6 hour ground school over basic orientation of skydiving with 2 Accelerated Freefall (AFF) to aide you with your free-falls

Level 2: Body flight skills and exiting the aircraft with 2 jump instructors

Level 3: Level 2 repeated until you are experienced at it. Then experience your first solo skydive with two AFF instructors at your side

Level 4 and 5: Learn "Heading Control:" learn 90 degree turns and master specialized 360 degree turns with more control

Level 6: Solo skydive with only one AFF instructor. Here you will learn how to do flips and delta tracking (a fancy way of saying gliding through the sky)

Level 7: Last step. Demonstrate all you have learned in front of your AFF instructor

Now you are ready to experience the thrill of a lifetime on your own!

Cary Printing has officially gained a Gracol7 (G7) Master Printer Status! So, you might be asking, "What does that mean?" With this achievement, Cary Printing has been recognized as a printer that goes above and beyond the average printer to have an exceptional print quality. The Master Printer Status proves that Cary Printing meets a standard of excellence in the color quality of all printed products. This is a huge benefit to the print buyer. It ensures that the print buyer can order the same product multiple times from Cary Printing and receive the exact same coloring. However, with other printers, one might order the same product twice and the coloring could be nothing alike when they are held side by side. Cary Printing exceeds the standard by providing a continuous first-rate quality in color and in service.

I was recently asked by two friends Steve Cotter and Ken Blackburn to present a module at the IKFF Level 2 certification. What a great weekend and an unbelievable opportunity! Steve and Ken started the International Kettlebell Fitness Foundation this year and it has really exploded. They are presenting everywhere.

Those of you familiar with the Kettlebell world will know Steve Cotter as an amazing athlete and terrific instructor. He and Ken are very generous with their knowledge and work hard to present. To be a part of this organization is quite an honor.

Dr. Ed started everybody off with Qi Gong, this set the tone with breathing exercises. Then Ken followed up with a warm up of the joints (Joint Mobility Module) and I continued with the Active Isolated Stretching portion. Steve’s ordering of the exercises is actually genius-starting internally (Qi Gong), then to the joints & muscles. By then the body was ready for Steve’s Dynamic Movement Module.

I would like to thank Steve and Ken for giving me the opportunity to present Active Isolated Stretching to the members of IKFF and look forward to working with them in the future.
Any time I get to spend with the top people in the fitness industry is always an amazing experience!

There is no shortage of talk about LEED these days so I think it merits a quick explanation.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and it is a green building rating system that has been put in place by the US Green Building Council. Each project is rated based on a variety of criteria and then it is awarded a level of Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum depending on the number of points it is eligible for. Criteria include energy usage, indoor air quality, sustainable sites, water use, construction waste, recycling, etc.

Projects can be certified under several different rating systems including LEED for New Construction, LEED for Existing Buildings, LEED for Commercial Interiors, LEED for Retail, LEED for Schools and LEED for Core and Shell. In addition there is a LEED for Homes that is new and a LEED for Neighborhood Development that is in its pilot phase.

Individuals who want to be LEED Accredited Professionals have to take and pass a test on one of the various LEED rating systems. When an individual passes the test they carry the LEED AP designation. Currently there are no continuing education requirements.

So for the record, buildings are LEED Certified and people are LEED Accredited. At least some of them.

As a student of exercise science, I love that question. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I bought my first Judo book. I was convinced I could teach myself Judo from that one book! After all, every move was printed out with diagrams… just follow the dotted lines, practice & I’m a pro, right? My first day on a Judo mat taught me different! I was stuck in the mat like a lawn dart (remember those?!) again & again & again. It was a great class, staring up at the ceiling tiles…
I know what you’re thinking; exercise is much easier than Judo, dancing, tennis or skiing, but isn’t it the people who get some sort of formal instruction that excel in these sports? Why do people think fitness is any different? I love it when I see people at my gym walking around with some fitness book or the latest issue of Men’s Health & then ask me how to do some exercise they found in it. I mean, hey, I’m the owner & I’m happy to help all of my members whenever I can (try finding that at a franchise club!), but there are just so many things about fitness training you just can’t learn from a book, magazine or even a video.
You can’t see adduction of your femur in the eccentric phase of a squat. You most likely wouldn’t know what exercise to do if your ankle is everting in a rear lunge. You might not even know what all these words mean in regards to your body at all! Some things, like the necessary progressions, proper technique or corrective exercises to fix muscle imbalances, just need to be learned one on one.
Hey, I know that all these books, dvds, an information on the internet are getting people moving and I think that’s great! God knows people need to move more & eat healthier so take the motivation wherever you can get it! But if you aren’t sure about exactly what movements to do to reach your goals, it’s worth your while to look into an exercise professional. Think of it as an investment in your future.
Add life to your years!

Your dog or cat is probably is not all that worried about global warming and deforestation, but a lot of owners are, and so many are now adding environment friendly pet furniture to the eco-friendly items they have in their homes.

In just the last couple years there has been an explosion in eco friendly pet furniture sales, and to meet the demand manufacturers have produced a vast new array of pet related eco-friendly products.

Pet owners across the country are now seeking out quality, eco-friendly items for their pets, giving the same emphasis to buying planet saving products for their pets, as they do to their homes and vehicles.

This movement seems to be mushrooming each year, with sales of these products, such as certified organic pet beds booming across the nation. Many owners now feed their pets, as well as themselves, on organically produced food items.

Many vinyl and plastic toys for pets are produced from soft PVC, which contains several harmful toxic chemicals. When your dog chews on his favourite squeaky ball these harmful chemicals can leach into the animals system, causing serious side effects such as organ damage and tumors.

It is preferable to search out toys that use natural dyes or organically grown fibers that are chemical and pesticide free, these items are also biodegradable.

Another good example of pet and planet saving products are certified organic pet beds which are filled with various materials, often100% fleece scraps that have been recycled.

These beds can be slightly more expensive than regular pet beds, but are a better long-term investment as they are completely washable, even the soft filling. So instead of dumping the bed in the trash after a couple years, the bed should last your pet's lifetime.

There are many other eco pet products available, such as environment friendly pet furniture, one stylish example is the ‘Kings Bed,’ a classy off the ground certified organic pet bed made from bamboo.

Holden designs have produced several upmarket pieces of eco friendly pet furniture including their chic raised pet feeding units. There are also dog and cathouses made of eco-friendly materials, such as replenishable wooden doghouses and interior cat homes made with recycled cotton materials.

Therefore, your pet can be as environmentally conscious as you are, with food, toys furniture and pet houses that are made from materials that will not harm the planet or you’re pet.

Fall is finally here! The leaves are beginning to turn into their vibrant oranges and reds as the temperature cools, it is just a wonderful time of year. It is so wonderful that Cary Printing decided to launch a BRAND NEW website, yes that is right. It is completely redone. Now this is not only a site redesign, but it is a new lease on life. If you want business cards, you can type in www.caryprinting.comand then look at the "Xtreme Green Printing" section and click the link for an instant quote on a set of business cards. It is that simple. You pick your quantity and easy stuff like that, upload your files and within no time you will receive professional quality business cards for an extremely affordable price. But wait, it gets even better than that! Remember that when you print with Cary Printing, ALL of our products are "green certified!" We are certified by the PEFC, FSC, and the SFI. In addition we have a handful of "green" awards. So not only do you get the product you want, at a price you can afford, you are helping the environment out by printing "green." Check it out today!
