En Europe, au XIVe siècle, William Thatcher est un modeste écuyer qui a un don inné pour l'équitation et les combats de joute, un talent qu'il décide d'exploiter après la mort de son maître Sir Ulrich von Lichtenstein. Mais ne concoure pas qui veut dans les tournois, il faut être un noble. Il prend alors l'identité de son défunt seigneur et part sur les routes de France avec ses compagnons Roland et Wat.
En chemin, William rencontre Geoffrey Chaucer, un écrivain errant qui lui fabrique de faux papiers. Ces documents falsifiés lui permettent de participer aux tournois disputés par les plus grands chevaliers.
En peu de temps, il se fait remarquer par son agilité et multiplie les victoires. Il attire également l'attention de la belle Jocelyn et, malheureusement, du redoutable comte Adhemar. Ce dernier est jaloux de son succès et compte bien y mettre un terme.

Quelle bonne surprise, ce film. Peut-être un peu déroutant, au début, mais jamais ridicule (entendre les acteurs chanter des chansons de Queen est plutôt amusant). Très divertissant!

Lorsque le premier épisode de Star Wars sort au cinéma, sous le nom de Star Wars « a new hope », c’est un vrai succès qui suffit à lui seul à redorer le blason du cinéma de science fiction.

Pourtant rien ne présageait un tel succès et surtout pas lors du tournage. Georges Lucas, le réalisateur, a eu toutes les peines du monde à faire son film. En effet il a du se battre auprès de la Fox pour pouvoir financer son film, il a du faire face a pas mal de contraintes climatiques dans les pays du tournage et a dû renoncer en partie à son salaire. Mais malgré tout le film est bouclé et sort le 25 mai 1977 aux Etats-Unis et quelques mois plus tard en France.
A new hope, commence lorsque un destroyer stellaire prend en chasse une corvette Corélienne qu'il soupçonne d’espionnage. A son bord se trouve la princesse Leïa (Carrie Fisher) qui a volé en compagnie des rebelles les plans de l’étoile noire, une gigantesque station orbitale servant de base et d’arme de destruction massive.

Celle ci est arrêté par les troupes d’un certain Dark Vador (David Prowse), mais avant de tomber dans les bras de l’ennemi, notre princesse a eu l’initiative de cacher les plans a l’intérieur d’un droïde (R2-D2) en l’envoyant à un ancien chevalier jedi du nom d’Obi-Wan Kenobi (Sir Alec Guinness). Les chevaliers jedis sont des chevaliers œuvrant pour la paix et servant la démocratie. Ils possèdent des particularités que chaque guerriers jedis possèdent : la force et l’habileté au combat de sabre laser.
R2-D2 accompagné de son acolyte C3PO arrivent sur Tatooine et après quelques péripéties parviennent à transmettre le message de la princesse à Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ceux-ci, aidés, par Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) et Hann solo (Harrison Ford), décident de s’envoler pour secourir notre princesse en danger.

Dans cet épisode nous apprenons que tous les chevaliers jedis ont été exterminés par l’empire. La démocratie n’existe pas, et c’est l’empereur qui règne sur la galaxie sous fond de guerre intergalactique.
Derrière ce scénario, assez basique, se cache en réalité un univers riche et varié. En effet Georges Lucas à réussit à créer un monde à part entière ou humain droïdes, et créatures en tout genres cohabitent.
Star Wars est clairement une ode à la liberté et à la démocratie. On ne peut pas s’empêcher d’y voir des références à la seconde guerre mondiale. Des rebelles qui se battent pour la démocratie et contre la tyrannie d’un empire qui n’hésite pas à tout massacrer sur son passage (planète Aldérande, détruite par l’empire).

Star Wars se décline en deux trilogies, l’avènement de l’empire dans les trois premiers épisodes et sa chute dans les trois derniers. L’un et l’autre, coïncide avec le destin de Dark Vador ou Anakin Skywalker.
A l’époque de sa sortie le film de Lucas va créer un véritable « boom », par ses effets spéciaux jamais vu avant au cinéma. A new hope est un modèle de film d’aventure bien construit avec des héros attachants, des décors totalement nouveaux se passant dans des galaxies lointaines. Star Wars peut aussi se vanter d’avoir l’un des méchants les plus charismatiques du cinéma. Dark Vador insuffle la peur et la haine et incarne le mal absolu aux yeux du spectateur.
Pour prouver que le succès de cet épisode fut complet, le film remporta bon nombre de prix la même année, comme celui du meilleur film de science-fiction, meilleur acteur, meilleure actrice, meilleur réalisateur etc etc…

That's what I heard anyway.

The Dutch painter Vermeer has remained one of the great enigmas of 17th-century Dutch art. While little is known of his personal life, his extraordinary paintings of natural and domestic life, with their subtle play of light and colour, have come to define the Dutch Golden Age. The mysterious portrait of the anonymous Girl with a Pearl Earring has fascinated art historians for centuries, and it is this magnetic painting that lies at the heart of Tracy Chevalier's second novel of the same title.

Girl with a Pearl Earring centres on Vermeer's prosperous household in Delft in the 1660s. The appointment of the quiet, perceptive heroine of the novel, the servant Griet, gradually throws the household into turmoil as Vermeer and Griet become increasingly intimate, an increasingly tense situation that culminates in her working for Vermeer as his assistant, and ultimately sitting for him as a model. Chevalier deliberately cultivates a limpid, painstakingly observed style in homage to Vermeer, and the complex domestic tensions of the Vermeer household are vividly evoked, from the jealous, vain, young wife to the wise, taciturn mother-in-law. At times the relationship between servant and master seems a little anachronistic, but Girl with a Pearl Earring does contain a final delicious twist in its tail. Chevalier acknowledges her debt to Simon Schama's classic study of the Dutch Golden Age, The Embarrassment of Riches, and the novel comes hard on the heels of Deborah Moggach's similar tale of domestic intrigue behind the easel of 17th-century Dutch painting, Tulip Fever.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced and gripping. There were no boring parts and I read this book so quickly.

Chevalier's descriptions were amazing. I could easily picture the marketplace and the eight-tipped star, as well as the house the Vermeer's lived in and his studio. The book was written in a way that made me feel like I was there watching the events unfold before my very eyes.

There were characters I liked, such as Pieter the son. I loved how he sought out Griet and never gave up. And characters I disliked, such as van Ruijven who believed he could have whatever he wanted because he was rich. I found myself getting angry at him as I read the book, which is good, as a book should spark emotions in the reader.

My only complaint was the ending - it was a little abrupt for my liking. I still have questions that I would have liked answered, but with the ending as it is, that won't happen.

This was a quick, enjoyable read.

Bon, encore le show de Paul McCartney qui revient dans les médias ! Il n'était pas fini ce foutu concert ? Là, évidemment, dans un jeu stérile médiatique et de grands démagogues qui n'ont pas de sujets d'actualité pour leurs lignes ouvertes, on veut comparer le spectacle de McCartney avec le spectacle à venir de Céliiiiiine à Québec. Pour une fois, je suis plus que d'accord avec René Angélil: il n'y a pas de comparaisons qu'on peut faire entre les deux. C'est comme comparer des pommes et des oranges.

Est-ce que Céliiiiiine écrit ses chansons ? Non. Paul le fait.

Est-ce que Céliiiiiine joue d'un instrument ? Non. Paul le fait.

Est-ce que Céliiiiiine chante ? Ah, ça oui ! Mais Paul le fait aussi.

On ne peut pas comparer un auteur/compositeur/interprète avec une interprète ! Ça n'a aucun sens. Là, attention, je ne veux pas jouer le jeu de ceux qui se pensent bien au-dessus de tout le monde en affirmant que je n'écoute pas Céliiiiiine. Ça m'arrive de temps en temps, elle a de bonnes chansons (surtout en français), mais disons qu'on ne peut pas comparer "Tout l'or des hommes" avec "Hey, Jude"... Vraiment pas !

Oh, aussi, je voulais partager une petite anecdote. Mon beau-père - conjoint de ma mère - m'arrive hier et me dit:

- Dans ton article d'aujourd'hui, tu as fait une faute !

- Où ça ?

- Pas une faute d'orthographe. Tu n'as pas écrit Sir Paul McCartney. Il a été fait chevalier, tu le savais ?

- Ah... !

Évidemment, c'était pour me taquiner. Disons que, comment dire, je n'ai jamais compris qu'on continue d'adouber des gens. Bon, je sais que c'est pour la forme. Qu'en fait, c'est un peu comme la Légion d'honneur en France, version Grande-Bretagne. Sauf que comment dire, ce "titre" honorifique n'a plus le même sens qu'autrefois. Je vois mal Paul McCartney se mettre dans une armure et aller sauver un village d'une menace quelconque à dos de cheval... Quoique Ian McKellen, qui est aussi adoubé, pourrait lancer des sorts de protection sur les villes et villages du monde... Hein, quoi ? Gandalf, c'était juste un rôle ? Ah... :(

I know from reading enough books and enough lists and responses that we may all agree on a book or two but one man's "stall" is another man's "rush." Nevertheless, I skimmed over the shelves last night, looking for a beach read. NO to The Devil Wears Prada or any Marian Keyes. NO to Maeve Binchy.  NO to Jay McInerny. NO to Jennifer Weiner; just not a fit for LaCar.

Page turner, page turner, page turner...  I guess I don't do a lot of them. Rather, we don't own them.  Nevertheless, I made a selection and called her.
"You need to make a choice," I said.
"Oh, sounds good!"
(This was sort of like shopping to both of us. Shopping is GOOD.)
"OK, here's the list," I said and narrated about each as I went along:

(Clearly I was unsure about what LaCar likes to read; and you have to work with what's on your shelf. I did consider one of Plum Sykes tinsel-y books, though and yes, I own two of them!)

And the winner was?
WIDEACRE.  It's tawdry. It's odd. The "interesting" thing in terms of its writing is that the main character is evil. Not magic, wizard evil. It's her character. Bad.  You're supposed to like the main character in some way, right? Oh, this is a tawdry novel. And it's told in the first person so that you wonder how can this work out? Yes, I'm trying to dress up a semi-pot-boiling-Brit steamy book that is NOT my usual cup of tea. In fact it doesn't even go with tea.

But Gregory has page-turning talent. We'll see what LaCar thinks. I have always sworn that I wouldn't bother to lend the book to anyone much less let anyone know I even read it. Well, mark it down as "entertainment." Possilby a beach read. Ain't nothing wrong with that. What would you have recommended to her?

A/N: I actually haven't finished the whole series yet, I'm at Episode 46. Which is close enough to make some calls on who lives and dies, who goes with who, and what happens. I also own books 1 and 2 of the manga, and I've got to say, I like the Karl in the manga much better. He seems more human-ish. And he's so cute! I want to hug him!!!

I'm sorry it's so awful! I wanted to write a short, reflective piece about Saya and Hagi, but I couldn't, and so I gave up and aimlessly started to write [rather than wander].

When had it become this?

She supposed that it had happened in the year she had been away; that year had allowed her to hone her fighting instincts and train her mind. It had given her much-needed time to process the truth - no matter what she wanted to pretend, she had been forced to accept that she was a Chiropteran and not a human. It had been near-impossible for her at first, with many nights spent simply listening to Hagi's cello, but eventually she had learned to accept what she was.

The next step had been her constant need for blood. At first, Saya even refused her chevalier's futile tries to get the stuff into her, and as a result, her strength had quietly drained away until she could barely walk. Hagi had forced the blood into her system by way of a kiss, and she had healed almost immediately. After that, Saya hadn't questioned her body's necessity for blood, and after battles when she sustained major injuries, she drank from Hagi for as long as she needed. That had been when things had begun to change, day by day. With the rising sun, something changed, and with the rising moon, it was cemented.

"Saya." The man's ever-calm voice rang through her ears as she walked forward, the material of her deep purple dress blowing around her legs in the wind.

"What is it, Hagi?" Saya asked, pausing mid-step and waiting for her long-haired chevalier to finish his thought.

"Perhaps we should rest for the night," he offered, glancing toward the rising moon. "We have a long way to travel tomorrow."

"In a little bit," she replied, brushing her slightly-wild hair out of her face. "Im not about to collapse, Hagi." And then she smiled. It was an unexpectedly rare sight, enough so that the cellist almost raised an eyebrow. Saya Otonashi had changed so very much in the past two years since her awakening.

She had gone from a relatively normal high school student in Okinawa to a somewhat frail warrior to... this. This was by far the tamest version of Saya that Hagi had known, if one disregarded the Saya that had released Diva from her cage. Even then, Saya had become a rather convincing monster after witnessing her adoptive father Joel's death. But while this particular version of Saya was probably the tamest, it was also probably the most deadly. Today's Saya was a coldly collected warrior, capable of fighting where Diva's chevaliers battled. Her very existence was defined by the burning desire to reduce her little sister to nothingness.

Hagi knew that it had hurt her badly in having to aid in the process of killing the man she thought of as her own father, and at times the handsome chevalier had wondered if she would lose herself in the grief. The same went for when Riku was killed by Diva... For several months following that fateful battle, Saya had been nothng but a shell of her former self, reduced to a body on autopilot.

But one day, her eyes had cleared. She had awoken one morning and asked Hagi to help her get the power she needed. Of course he had complied, but the sheer strength of her new resolve had astounded him.

She was like a different person.

Accepting his blood had taken quite a bit of that resolve, but she had eventually managed it. After hours of debating the necessity of it with him, she had decided on drinking exclusively from him. Humans... those she was bound to protect... she wasn't going to kill them. Not now, not ever.

And that had been the final word.

"Hagi?" It was late, but as far as Saya remembered, Hagi didn't need sleep. This was only confirmed when she heard his elegant black clothes shift as he turned to face her in the dim light. Instead of speaking, as she was so accustomed to from the last remaining member of her family, he simply waited. "Do you think that after this is all over... do you remember your promise?"

"Yes," he replied quietly, as if he wished that he didn't.

"When this is all over... when I'm gone... what will happen to you, Hagi?" That was the only thing she truly cared about at this point - her fierce desire to protect Kai, David, and even to some extent Hagi himself had since faded, leaving what she knew she needed to do. She had long ago learned that Hagi could protect himself far better than Saya could, and David and Kai had a way of always surviving.

The only dilemna left was the one that now sat in front of her. Kai would go on to live a human life, probably marrying a kind, hardworking woman and eventually having children. She would wake up in time to see Kai maybe two more times before he died - she'd even get to meet his children, if he didn't think of her as too much of a freak by then.

"I will die with you, Saya," Hagi murmured, an apology in his deep voice. The man was almost still entirely an enigma to her, even now, but she could at least decipher the man's voice, if nothing else.

"You should live," she sighed, turning over on her side to face him. "Promise me that you'll live, Hagi."

"If that is what you wish."

"I wish that you would think of yourself sometimes," she told him before closing her eyes.

"It is a chevalier's job to look after his queen," he reminded her. "For now, sleep." He neglected to mention that his lack of enthusiasm in living after her death was his own free choice for the sake of the argument.

"We're not done with this conversation," she muttered as she got more comfortable underneath Hagi's jacket - the closest thing she had to a blanket at this point. Moments later, she was fast asleep.

"To live..." Hagi murmured, glancing over at his cello and then deciding against it - it would only wake Saya and reinstigate the uncomfortable 'discussion'. "Perhaps, but without you... it would not be worth the effort." Pressing a light kiss against her forehead, the man rose and took up watch next to his sleeping charge. He her to live, more than anything, but if she had made her decision, he wasn't the one to stop her. Kai would try, perhaps... He hoped so, though he had long since given up in trying to change Saya's mind when it came to almost anything, including topics like this. Especially topics like this.

The sun would rise again, and everything would change with it - as usual.

One could only hope that it would be for the better this time, the sun rising as a bearer of cheer or hope, rather than a wakeup call to the chiropteran queens and therefore a cry to battle.

Aliette Jamart’s untiring commitment to return orphaned chimpanzees back to the wild in Africa, has led to one of the most successful reintroduction programs in conservation history. As a result, she has been awarded the Legion of Honour and ranked as a Chevalier – or Knight – by the Government of France.

Aliette is the founder of HELP-Congo, the Habitat Ecologique et Liberte des Primates sanctuary in the Republic of Congo, which began rescuing orphaned chimpanzees in 1989.

“We are extremely proud of Madame Jamart,” said Doug Cress of PASA, the Pan African Sanctuary Alliance. “Not only did she create a sanctuary in Congo at a time when few existed, she also took the work one step further and proved that chimpanzee reintroductions could work. Today, more than half of our sanctuaries are committed to these programmes and HELP-Congo is still the model we use.”

The Legion of Honour was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and it is the highest decoration awarded in France. Aliette Jamart receives it for more than four decades of conservation work.

Si, hier, j'ai bien rigolé avec le blogue de Leif, j'ai également rigolé en écoutant des sketches de Kaamelott. Qu'est-ce que c'est ? Ceux qui ont la chaîne Historia au Québec le savent. Moi, c'est par des amis que j'ai su ce que c'était et que j'ai pu en écouter. Cette série de sketches français qui a remplacé Caméra Café (car il ne faut pas oublier qu'en France, Caméra Café n'est pas diffusée en version de 30 minutes comme la version québécoise) a été créée par Alexandre Astier et se passe dans le monde de Kaamelott, le royaume du Roi Arthur. Mais ici, comment dire, l'heure est plutôt à la parodie et au rire. Les personnages, tous inspirés des légendes arthuriennes, ont été plutôt modifiés: Arthur est un impatient bougon exaspéré par la crétinerie de sa Cour, Guenièvre est un peu "nunuche", Perceval est un sombre imbécile, Karadoc est un charmant goinfre (et un peu con, mais je l'aime bien quand même), Léodagan est renfrogné et jaloux d'Arthur, Merlin est maladroit et nul en blagues, etc. Bref, c'est très drôle comme série (bien qu'en France, certains ont été déçus que la cinquième saison récente a doublé la longueur des épisodes à 7 minutes et qu'elle soit plus noire que les autres). Historia diffuse des trente minutes d'épisodes hebdomadairement. Les 4 premières saisons (qu'ils ont appelés livre) sont en vente en France. Par contre, au Québec, rien pour l'instant.

Alors, sérieusement, s'il y a des distributeurs qui sont au courant d'une éventuelle sortie au Québec, ça serait appréciable qu'ils nous fassent signe. Sinon, il faudrait qu'il y ait une sortie en DVD. Après tout, on a bien eu droit aux DVDs de Samantha Oups! ici. En tout cas, il y aurait quelques acheteurs. Pour ceux qui n'ont pas Historia et qui veulent se faire une idée des sketches (et accrocher tout de suite), cliquez ici pour en voir gratuitement une dizaine. Bon, il y a toujours l'import, mais c'est cher et c'est chiant de lire des PAL quand on n'a que des lecteurs nord-américain...

This song is the 2^nd ending song of the anime Blood+. The anime was about Saya Otonashii’s journey to fight the Chiropterans (what looks like bloodsucking creatures, like vampires, you know) with her faithful chevalier Haji and rediscovering her own identity along the way. The story is a very touchy one for me, (but not in the cheesy way) mainly because she was the only who could kill the chiropterans even though at first she find it hard to do so. And she also was struggling to find out who she really was.

The anime is produced by Production I.G. (like Prince of Tennis) and Sony’s production arm, Aniplex (like Jigoku Shoujo and La Corda D’Oro Primo Passo). The original run was on October 08, 2005 to September 23, 2006. Blood+ was distributed by Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) and here in the Philippines it premiered its first six episodes on Animax on April 08, 2007, Sunday, 9pm but the official airing was on April 12, 2007, Thursday, 7pm-8pm (haha! got the schedule right!). Its encore runs and replays were at 10pm-11pm in the same prime telecast day, and every Sunday, at 12pm-1pm and 10pm-11pm. The animated film entitled Blood: The Last Vampire from which the anime series was based upon premiered on Animax on April 07, 2007, Saturday, at 8pm. The anime is rated PG, because of its strong violent scenes and language – and I watched the anime all by myself, hehehhe.

It has a total of 50 episodes of horror, action, drama, mystery, supernatural, and romance. Whew!

Speaking of anime, out of my boredom, I ranked my favorite ones to ten.

At the tenth spot is my all-time favorite Cardcaptor Sakura. What’s good about it is that it has a very excellent original story, and very nice vivid animation. My favorite character is Shaoran, although he’s an archetype, so to speak, but his character has a high degree of verisimilitude.

At ninth spot is Bokura ga Ita, or We Were There if I’m not mistaken in my English translation. I really like it because even though it’s the same pattern all over again, falling in love, breaking up, unrequited love – there is something in it that is expressed in a very subtle way. And the insert songs are so amazing. Even I, as a viewer, did have my own emotional struggle because of the conflict in Yano-Nana affair. And Yano is probably what some girls really like – after all two-thirds of the class is in love with him. The manga series is also cool, by Yuuki Obata.

At the eight spot is La Corda d’Oro Primo Passo which is currently shown in Animax. With its vivid animation and musical background plus fascinating guys, I couldn’t stand the fact of missing any single episodes. Hino is so captivating, I really like her a lot.

Next, at the seventh rank is Fruits Basket. It’s funny in a cute way, and even though Honda-san may appear so innocent and so naïve, she is really lovable. And see? There is always the usual love triangle affair among Tohru, Yuki and Kyo. The manga series is written by Takaya Natsuki.

At the sixth spot is Midori no Hibi (Midori Days). Midori is so cute. The anime is so funny, and worth my time, but later on when you encounter the drama part, you get carried away (maybe this is because you get used to think that this is a funny one, but when you get to the emotional part you ended up being touched by something you are not used to). Seiji Sawamura’s character as a highschool delinquent is a fascinating one, and the very cute Midori is really something to look forward to every episode.

How would you feel if you possessed a certain mystical stone that would increase your abilities a thousand fold? And if you’re an alchemist, you would have extraordinary power to heal all injuries and to have everlasting life. This is the story of Fullmetal Alchemist, at my fifth spot, a quest to find the ultimate Philosopher’s Stone. Edward Elric as the youngest state alchemist is utterly stunning. As you go on watching this anime you would find that there is an underlying message about the science-religion (or morality, for that matter) in it. After all, the power to possess the stone does not only bring good things, but it has the power to annihilate and destroy every single living life there is. I also like Winry Rockbell’s character, her addiction to rebuilding mechanical devices exemplifies her strong personality.

At the fourth spot is Honey and Clover! It’s a very heartwarming story of college students living their college lives amidst encountering emotional struggles and life’s difficulties until they learn more about themselves. My personal favorite character is Ayumi Yamada, the Iron Girl with her excellence in making pottery, and good looks (not to mention long legs). Her unrequited love for Takumi Mayama is one of the dramatic scenes of the anime.

At the third spot is Inuyasha, with its witty, amazing plot – a girl named Kagome traveling to the feudal environment using the old well and meeting the half-demon Inuyasha. The real story begins as they find the broken pieces of the Shikon no Tama, but along the way, there seems to be a lot of touching romantic episodes between Kagome and Inuyasha, and the conflict is escalated with the presence of another character, Kikyou, Inuyasha’s beloved. This is really a must-seen anime for me. My personal favorite character, aside from the main characters, is Sesshoumaru. Maybe because of his strong atmosphere that exudes in his personality.

At the second spot is Blood+ - an anime produced by Production IG and Aniplex, is a story of Saya Otonashii, as she fights Chiropterans and gets rid of them and finds her own self-identity along the way. This anime is a mixture of horror, action, drama, mystery, supernatural, and romance genres all in one, which makes up the anime’s complex and concentrated plot. Saya embarks on the journey to fight the Chiropteran (vampiric creatures) with her faithful servant Haji, some members of the Red Shield, brothers Kai and Riku and other faithful friends. The plot is so amazing that once you get started watching it, you wouldn’t like missing episodes in the future. Some scenes may contain strong violence and language, which is why it’s hard to let other people see it halfway because they might not understand. This anime is so good, that I love watching it all over again.

But my favorite most of all is Samurai X. The whole story is definitely amazing enough for anyone to like. The fight scenes, the language and the animation are perfectly incorporated. Kenshin Himura’s character as a wanderer and as a bloodthirsty swordsman is unforgettable. Some scenes are funny, terrifying and touching. My favorite character, other than Kenshin himself is Saito. He’s kinda disturbing but his personality is so strong for me. It’s a story of fighting for the better good, living a new life out of a dreadful past, learning to love even through circumstances when the haunting memories from the past seemed to still hang around within and being strong in one’s convictions. I love it.

నాకు ఐఐఐటి పంచిన మరిచిపోలేని అనుభూతుల్లో మరో ముత్యం… ఇవాళ HCU లో ఆయన (chevalier అన్నా గుర్తు రాకపోయుంటే.. బాల మురళి కృష్ణ గారు) కచేరీ ఉంటే, తొక్కలో exams వల్ల వెళ్ళాలా వద్దా అనుకుంటున్న సమయంలో సామ్రాట్ రూం కి వెళ్ళా. అదే time లో వాడు 'DVDs ఇవ్వాలి.. HCU కి వస్తావా?' అన్నాడు. హమ్మా.. దొరికాడ్రా బాబు తోడు, అనుకుని 'సరే' నన్నా. ఇద్దరం బైక్ మీద 3 నిమిషాల్లో ఆడిటోరియంకి చేరుకున్నాం. అప్పటికి లోన్నుంచి 'గౌరీ.. నన్ను బ్రోవుమా' అని వినిపిస్తుంది. లోపలికి వెళ్ళేసరికి, ఖాళీల్లేవే! చూడగా చూడగా చివరగా రెండు సీట్ట్లు కనిపించాయి.. పోయి కూర్చున్నాం. పెద్దవాళ్ళు కొంతమంది తాళం వేస్తూ ఉన్నారు. students మాత్రం 'hmmm..' అన్నట్టు చూస్తున్నారు. ఒక నిమిషం అలాగే గడిచింది. వాసు sir, పురుష్ stage మీదనే వున్నారు. ఈ మధ్యలో సామ్రాట్ వెళ్తానని చెప్పి బయల్దేరాడు. sudden గా hall అంతా నిశ్శబ్దం!

అక్కడ మొదలైంది.. ఆయన 'స్వరకల్పన'!(అంటే, సరిగమపదని లతో ఆట!). ఆయనతో పాటు మృదంగం, వాయులీనం కూడా కచేరీలో ఉన్నాయి. నిజంగా వాళ్ళిద్దరితో ఒక ఆటే ఆడుకున్నారు, బాల మురళి గారు! ప్రేక్షకులంతా 'ఏం జరుగుతుందా' అన్నట్టు చూస్తున్నారు. 'నువ్వానేనా?' అన్నట్టుంది అక్కడ ముగ్గురి మధ్య వరస. అలా ఒక 3 నిమిషాల పాటు సాగింది.. చప్పట్లే చప్పట్లు! చాలామంది చీటీ మీద వాళ్ళకి ఇష్టమైన కీర్తనలు పంపుతున్నారు. ఎవరో అలాగే పంపినట్టున్నారు, గురువుగారు 'పలుకే బంగారమాయేనా' అని అందుకున్నారు.. now at this point.. everyone's out of their age bounds, generation gaps blah blah.. each and every soul in the auditorium is clapping to the rhythm and tapping the feet with joy. I dint quite expect this from HCU's metropolitans.. really they surprised me :P and something about me.. “I’m up above the cloud9!”. ఆ గళానికున్న గాంభిర్యం ఆ కీర్తనకో కొత్త అందాన్ని తెచ్చిపెట్టింది. అక్కడితో ఆగలేదు.. గోపన్న ని మళ్ళీ మళ్ళీ రంగంల్లోకి తెచ్చారు.. వరసగా 'ఎంతో రుచిరా', 'రామ చంద్రాయ జనక..' కూడా పాడేసరికి జనం ఇంకో లోకంలో ఉన్నారు!

ఇక్కడ మళ్ళీ చిన్న change.. పక్కన violin వాయించే అతని నుండి violin తను తీస్కుని, ఎవో మూడు మెట్ట్ల మీద మీట మన్నట్టు నేర్పించి మళ్ళీ అతని చేతిలో పెట్టి, ఇలా మెదలెట్టారు.. 'ఏమి సేతురా లింగా' అని. ఇది lyrics special. అది పల్లెటూరి పాలెగాళ్ళ శైలిలో పాడడంతో, ఇంకా బావుంది. అలా అలా తిల్లానాల్లోకి వచ్చిపడేసరికి జనం ఎక్కడా ఆగేలా లేరు.. చప్పట్ల తోనే తాళాలు వేస్తూ, గురువుగారిచ్చే ఝళక్ లకి, సుర్రున పేల్చే టపాసులకీ ముగ్దులవుతూ బాగా enjoy చేసారు. కచేరీ అయిపోయాక... 'photo session!'. ఎలాగోలా తంటాలు పడితే, పురుష్, నేను ఆయనతో కొన్ని photos తీయించుకున్నాం.. thanks to Vasu sir! బయటకి వచ్చేసాక, పురుష్ తో అన్నా.. 'సుబ్బలక్ష్మి గారు కూడా బ్రతికి ఉండుంటే ఎంత బావుణ్ణు' అని. అవి అప్రయత్నంగా వచ్చిన మాటలు.. ఎదో miss అయ్యానా అన్న feeling తో వచ్చిన మాటలు.. stalwarts అని ఊరికే అంటారా?

Au XIV ème siècle, William Tatcher, écuyer de Sir Ulrich von Lichtenchtein développe, enfant, un don pour les combats de joute et l'équitation.

Après la mort de son maitre, il décide de combattre, mais seul les nobles ont ce privilège. C'est alors qu'il prend l'identité de ce dernier, mort quelques jours auparavant. Il combat alors les plus grands sous cette fausse identité, les vaincs, et attire l'attention de la belle Jocelyn. Le conte Adhemar, un redoutable combattant, et jaloux de ce dernier, met tout en oeuvre pour remédier à tout ce succès et conquérir la belle Jocelyn à son tour...

Pourquoi il ne faut le rater sous aucun prétexte?

Le temps des joutes... Une époque méconnue que nous découvrons dans ce film de manière très réaliste. Le scénario simple mais extremement bien écrit ; restant sur ce point fidèle au langage de l'époque ; nous fait apprécier ce film, sans le rendre lourd.

Ce film, le plus souvent apprécié des femmes, met en scène des acteurs de grands talents ( tel Heath Ledger, notamment vu dans Le secret de Brockeback Mountain), qui rendent ce film drôle, émouvant et palpitant à la fois.

L'histoire, est donc parsemée d'amour, d'humour et d'amitiés insoupçonnées, et captive le spectateur jusqu'au dénouement.

Elle nous montre également, de manière très touchante, un homme prêt à tout pour réaliser ses rêves. Rien n'est impossible et tout lui réussit, c'est le morale que nous pouvons en retirer...

Chevalier est un film à voir absolument!!! Le cadre de l'histoire, quelque peu athypique, nous fait découvrir cet univers lointain avec beaucoup de facilité voire même de légèreté...Et ça ne fait pas de mal!

Mes premiers essais sérieux avec Photoshop en tant que programme de "coloriage". J'ai pris un vieux dessin noir et blanc, et je l'ai attaqué avec la souris et la palette de couleurs. Ce que je préfère dans se dessin, c'est le fond... je crois que je vais retourner à mes pinceaux, les vrais...

Gaudin a compris qu'il peut perdre
Ceux qui attendaient le laminage en règle de Guérini par la célèbre faconde de Gaudin en sont pour leur frais, non seulement il a tenu tête mais il a fait montre d'un répondant qui, sans nul doute, doit augmenter la puissance de la lame de fond perçue ces dernières semaines à Marseille du côté de la Ruche, QG de campagne du patron de la gauche. On apprenait en effet, la veille du débat, dans un sondage LCM-Opinionway réalisé entre le 15 et le 19 février auprès de 1307 Marseillais, une parfaite égalité entre les deux principaux concurrents, égalité remarquable aussi dans les secteurs qui vont faire le futur maire de la Cité phocéenne. Autant dire aussi la perte de 10 point pour l'équipe sortante UMP en quelques semaines.

De quoi irriter Jean-Claude Gaudin qui pensait, il y a quelques jours encore, son élection acquise les doigts dans le nez, et projetait dès lors une campagne aussi courte que possible, fort de sa notoriété (il avait prévu son entrée en lice officielle vers le 9 février). Cette assurance, tentons la "suffisance", n'est plus de mise désormais. Ce faisant, il a entendu les alertes pilotées par le Président Sarkozy de l'Élysée et par ses collègues patrons de l'UMP (Devedjian entre autres), lui intimant l'ordre d'entrer dans la bataille immédiatement, défaits par les calamiteux sondages internes du parti présidentiel dont certaines hypothèses le donnaient perdant. Son avance sondagière officielle fondant comme neige au soleil, naturellement. Pas du tout préparé à cette accélération de calendrier, le site Internet de Gaudin buggait allègrement dans les premiers jours de sa mise en ligne en choisissant des têtes américaines pour illustrer ses administrés marseillais et, plus encore, ses tentes blanches disséminées dans la ville en guise de sièges de campagne par secteur ne sont pas encore toutes opérationnelles à 15 jours du premier tour...

Aux auditeurs que nous fûmes, l'agacement de Gaudin, souvent goguenard, distillant habituellement les formules grand-guignolesques version Pagnol, mais bien senties, pour ne pas répondre aux questions qui fâchent, s'est mué durant le débat, en agressif concurrent. C'est-là, nous semble-t-il, la plus grande victoire de Guérini. Le maire sortant a donc enfin pris conscience qu'il était en train de perdre sa mairie, il est assurément redescendu de son Olympe. C'est heureux pour la confrontation d'idées et, par conséquent, pour la démocratie locale, d'autant que sa main-mise sur la presse régionale est devenue si officielle qu'elle est insupportable aux démocrates que nous sommes, parfois il faut dire stop aux abus et, comme personne ne le fait, Internet est le bon médium, jugez-en par vous même !

Gaudin ce soir a été fébrile, et la voix ne trahit pas, elle a tremblé, s'est muée parfois en celle d'un preux chevalier, alors qu'il était le maître de céans, le baron de sa baronnie, devant défendre avec force son propre territoire, voire même son autorité, désormais contestée... Fait rare, voire unique de mémoire d'observateur. Pas un mot sur son projet ! Pas un ! Il n'a fait que défendre, coûte que coûte, au prix d'une obstruction verbale et d'une volonté de monopolisation de l'échange, nonobstant quelques saillies mordantes, son bilan. Est-ce suffisant ? Vraiment ?

Un premier corps à corps, pas encore un débat
Pour ceux qui attendaient sagement une confrontation d'idées, de projets, la déception est de mise aussi, sans nul doute. Nous avons entendu le combat de deux chefs, une sorte de premier round entre deux hommes qui se côtoient depuis des années, sans se connaître vraiment. Guérini n'ayant de cesse de clamer le respect, la bienséance, la dignité, le rappel au calme. Voilà que les deux fils de Defferre, l'un plus légitime que l'autre selon l'épouse du feu-patriarche de la ville, Edmonde Charles-Roux, ont pris conscience ce soir en offrant à nos oreilles attentives qu'il fallait tourner une page de l'histoire de Marseille.

L'échange a ceci d'incroyable que les deux hommes se sont testés, jaugés et se sont affranchis du père. Ce soir, les deux principaux candidats sont, sans qu'ils s'en s'aperçoivent, devenus adultes, politiquement s'entend, l'un sur le (trop?) tard, à l'âge d'un patriarche, l'autre ayant pris conscience durant sa campagne de ce qu'il était vraiment, un leader. Ils ont joué le rôle d'Abel et Caïn de l'ancien testament ou de la Torah. Devenus libres, ils sont en quête de la reconnaissance de leur nouveau maître, le peuple marseillais. Le propos de leurs échanges décousus s'est centralisé presque exclusivement sur l'histoire, le passé et donc sur les bilans Defferre, Vigouroux, Gaudin. Embarrassés tous deux, qui de le défendre, qui de le stigmatiser pour mieux le récupérer. Personne n'a proposé, les deux forces s'annihilant.

La grande frustration de l'auditeur provient du fait qu'il était curieux d'entendre les deux patrons entrer dans le vif de leur projet. Rien de tel, nous avons assisté à la pesée de deux poids-lourds avant le combat à venir. Ce débat radiophonique n'a été qu'un premier reniflage. Là aussi, selon-nous, l'exercice dans une vision objective mais pessimiste est presque un succès de Guérini qui, de facto, change de braquet dans sa campagne : il n'est plus challenger, c'est le vainqueur potentiel de l'élection municipale de mars prochain et, donc, le possible futur maire de Marseille. D'un autre côté Gaudin, ayant pris conscience de sa possible défaite va sûrement se déchaîner pour sauvegarder son pouvoir, dans le dernier round de son histoire.

Au fond, ce soir, nous venons d'entrer réellement en campagne entre deux rivaux d'égale stature. Par pitié sur quels projets ?

I liked this hat pattern so much, I made 3 of them and kept one for myself. The hat knit up quickly and easily and all the hats seemed to fit quite well. I love the color of the Classic Elite yarn. Although the yarn is discontinued, I really quite liked it. You can't tell in the photos, but it had a felted quality about it.

Unfortunately they all ended up being too long even with omitting the rows and going down a needle size. The worst part though was that I lost one of the grey ones on my drive home from Idaho back to California. I swear, somedays it's a good thing my head is attached.

The brown gloves and hat went to my middle sister for her December birthday. She had originally requested fingerless gloves with mitten tops, but after attempting to knit those twice, I gave up. When I saw the Chevalier Mitten pattern, I hoped the cable design would help her forget her original request. She called me just a few days ago and asked for more gloves and hats. Obviously she likes them.

The blue/green gloves and hat went to my sister 14 months younger than I for her September birthday. I know, I was a teensy bit late. I don't know if she uses them or not since she hasn't spoken to me since the fiasco at my mom's house 6 weeks ago. Had I know she was going to say such hurtful things to me two days after I gave them to her, I would have kept them. I've always had a policy to only knit for those that would appreciate the love & care I put into a hand knit item. Unfortunately I don't think she understands that. What's that saying, "once bitten, twice shy?"

These are especially fantastic because it is flippin' cold in Chicago. I can't remember the last time I saw the sun, so all happy-thoughts must be obtained through friends and exercise (and of course, fantastic gifts). Food was a good source too, but there needs to be a little less of it now that the holidays are over. ;)
