Le Père Noël est une ordure est à l'origine une pièce de théâtre créée en 1979 par la troupe du Splendid. En 1982, Jean-Marie Poiré adapte la pièce au cinéma avec le film du même nom.

Two Indiana boys spent too much time watching A Christmas Story during winter break (it is on for 24 hours non-stop). The fourth graders decided to try out a scene from the movie when a boy gets double-dog dared to stick his tongue to a wooden pole (full story).

Here's a funny quote from the story, "Gavin Dempsey and James Alexander were serving on flag duty at Jackson Elementary School Friday morning, with the job of raising and lowering the school's flags. They decided to see if their tongues really would stick to the cold metal." That's hilarious! They were on flag duty for crying out loud.

I love fourth graders! When I saw the headline to the article, I figured that middle school boys were behind these antics. But, no, boys the same age as the kids in the movie. It's sort of...cute.

The story doesn't say how Gavin and James managed to remove their bleeding tongues from the metal pole. A metal pole? Don't they know that the kid in A Christmas Story stuck his tongue to a wooden pole?

I wonder what Neal Gabler, author of Life: The Movie, would have to say about this. Life: The Movie talks about how entertainment has pervaded our culture. It's a good read; check it out. And on your way to the bookstore, resist the urge to lick flagpoles and other outdoor objects. I triple dog dare you!

The Chipmunks are soooo cute, you just want to see this movie again or go out & buy a real chipmunk.

The movie is based on a '50s hit novelty musical act named "Alvin and the Chipmunks" and is true to its original incarnation. It was made to a cartoon TV series in 1961-62 and 1981-90. The CGI chipmunk characters are so realistic visually, their "acting" would put many real life actors to shame. Definitely one of the best animated movies released this year. So realistic are the animated characters, they look like small kids. So it is no surprise Alvin and the Chipmunks was one of the animated movies submitted for consideration for the Oscar awards. This movie puts Fox Animation in the same league as other leading animation studios like Disney, Dreamworks and Pixar. Forget the Golden Compass, Alvin and the Chipmunks shows the way to truthful entertainment, leaving both the parents and the kids more than satisfied.

Not only is the storyline well constructed, you also get Alvin and the Chipmunks' '50s hits like "the Chipmunk Song (Christmas don't be late)", "the Witch Doctor" etc updated for today's audience, making it a perfect Christmas movie. The Chipmunks' new version of "Funkytown" is also a real party booster. Ross Bagdasarian Snr, the creator of Alvin and the Chipmunks won 5 Grammys for songs by this novelty recording act in 1958-63. The Chipmunks have released recordings almost every year from 1958-68, 1980-83, and 1990-96 making them one of the most enduring recording acts in music history! Ross Bagdasarian Snr died of a heart attack in 1972 and his son, Ross Bagdasarian Jr. carried on his father's musical tradition.

The movie is set in smalltown USA that is all decked out for Christmas so you get an old fashion Christmassy feeling throughout the movie. The lead character, David Seville (Jason Lee) is a down and out song composer whose life is turned upside down by 3 talking, singing and dancing, mischievous chipmunks. There are many funny moments that will have you laughing silly. Jason Lee also voiced for the title character in "Underdog" movie another live-action/CGI movie.

There was a movie review by a local movie "critic" who said that the only entertaining thing about the movie was the talking chipmunks. She must be half dead or a sleepwalker. Everybody knows that all animated movies have talking characters and viewers expect more than just talking chipmunks to be entertained.

Alvin and the Chipmunks - Suitable for Young Children:

The movie teaches kids good values like:

• holding on to your dreams because something great is just around the corner
• if you show kindness, you will be rewarded
• be careful what you wish for, for you may get the worst part of it
• love and family is more valuable than fame and fortune.

The "mild rude humor" comprise the fart joke scene and a chipmunk eating poo sequence. So the movie is suitable for all kids.

Fantastic CGI, great story, good music, superb entertainment for the whole family (from grandparents to kids) make Alvin and the Chipmunks a movie worth seeing. So go and see the movie and later buy the DVD because some memories are worth keeping.

Can you stand it!??!? I just love this time of year. What's your favorite Christmas movie?

I never get sick of this movie....is it just me???  Anyway, what's your favorite scene??  Do you have another favorite Christmas movie??

Actually, I've been thinking a lot about Christmas lately. And the first thing on the agenda is getting a new Christmas tree. I've had my old tree for nearly twenty years and it's time for an update!

Amanda was over from King George for a few days. Oh, you remember her. She lived with me for awhile, called me Mom, the whole shebang...then she moved on. Quite upset at the time but I'm good with it now.

So, she came over for a few days because her father is co-signing for her for a new Jeep Cherokee - the same kind as my daugher's only newer - and she wanted us all to do something Saturday night. I had waited on tables all day long and really wasn't in the mood, but the girl is relentless. I had so much work to do with the tours, but I just couldn't say no.

My daughter and I had planned to go to Salisbury to look at Christmas trees so I told Amanda that's what we'll do....shop for a tree and go out to Texas Road House afterwards.

It was a plan.

Our first stop was Target, and they had beautiful trees, but the price tag just wasn't in my budget, so we kept on. Our next stop was Boscov's in the mall. Now, Boscov's has an excellent Christmas section, but again, price tags were in the $200 - $400 range. Ouch.

We gave up on it and did a little shopping in the mall (got my son a sweatshirt from Hollister's and a couple of pair of boxers from Aeropostle), then headed out to Texas Road House where we dined on steak, baked potato, salad and all the rolls you could eat - ymmm.

So, no tree, but at least we have an idea what's out there.

This tree I have now has a little bit of history to it. I had just gotten a job at a department store and used my first paycheck to buy it. It was the most beautiful tree in stock. I remember paying about $80 for it but at that time, that was expensive. And, for someone who had to go to work to support the kids, I really couldn't afford it but it's lasted for almost twenty years. The tree stand has to be supported with a book, but the needles are all intact.

So, why a new one? I'm not sure except there's a certain kind of tree I'm looking for and it would look so good in here. The one I really want is $400 but I think that's kind of ridiculous to pay for something you're only going to use once a year.

Ah well...I'll keep you updated. Meanwhile...jingle bells...jingle bells...
