Critics say that PLA doesn't compost effectively when buried under tons of debris in the airless vaults of massive landfills. Others are worried that PLA is derived from genetically-modified sources. Still others worry that corn and other plant life are being diverted away food production causing food shortages and rising prices. There are even concerns about methane gas from decomposing PLA adding to greenhouse gasses.

Supporters claim that recycling facilities can be inexpensively converted to industrially compost PLA waste and carbon capture offset gasses. Economists studying the causes of food shortages and world food prices differ on why we are facing our current predicament. Some suggest that GMO crops will increase crop yield to feed the growing world population. Other economists point their finger at commodity speculators, hoarding, and trade barriers to explain the sudden rise in food prices.

I've long admired the investigative reporting and editorials in The Christian Science Monitor. I find their articles to be diligently researched and the analysis offered in their opinion pieces to be comprehensive and well reasoned. I often surf their on-line edition CS Monitor for environmental news. EarthTalk, a syndicated feature from E-The Environment Magazine is carried by The CS Monitor. EarthTalk editor Eoin O'Carroll, who answers readers questions on a wide range of green issues, posted an article on July 11th regarding the pros and cons of polylactic acid (PLA). I posted a piece on PLA months ago and it continues to be the most viewed article on this site. It's time to take another look at this topic and EarthTalk's column is a good place to start.

Q: What are the environmental pros and cons of corn-based plastic as an alternative to conventional petroleum-based plastic?
– Laura McInnes, Glasgow, Scotland

A: Polylactic acid (PLA), a plastic substitute made from fermented plant starch (usually corn), is quickly becoming a popular alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastics.

As more and more countries and states follow the lead of China, Ireland, South Africa, Uganda, and San Francisco in banning plastic grocery bags responsible for so much “white pollution” worldwide, PLA is poised to play a big role as a biodegradable replacement.

Proponents tout the use of PLA – which is technically “carbon neutral,” in that it comes from renewable, carbon-absorbing plants – as another way to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases in a warming world. PLA also does not emit toxic fumes when incinerated.

But critics say that PLA is far from a panacea for dealing with the world’s plastic waste problem. For one thing, although PLA does biodegrade, it does so very slowly. According to Elizabeth Royte, writing in Smithsonian magazine, PLA may well break down into its constituent parts (carbon dioxide and water) within three months in a “controlled composting environment,” that is, an industrial composting facility heated to 140 degrees F. and fed a steady diet of digestive microbes. But it will take far longer in a compost bin or a landfill packed so tightly that no light and little oxygen are available to assist in the process. Analysts estimate that a PLA bottle could take anywhere from 100 to 1,000 years to decompose in a landfill.

The issue can be further clouded when the question of what actually makes a product compostable is factored into the equation. Eugene Stevens, a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials and a chemistry professor at the State University of New York(Binghamton), has conducted research on bio-plastics for more than three decades. In an article in the International Herald Tribune (IHT), Stevens states, "It's a little complicated, but in general, if it biodegrades to 90 percent within six months in an industrial composting environment with no toxic components, that's compostable."

In the IHT article posted on July 6th, author, Erica Giles writes:

Biodegradable plastic products offer the possibility of relieving consumers of guilt and manufacturers of the responsibilities associated with growing landfills and garbage-choked oceans. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, only 6.9 percent of plastics were recycled in the United States in 2006, partly because many plastics are composites of different materials and are hard to recycle.

In addition, consumers have recently become more aware of how many products are oil-based, said Steve Davies, marketing director of NatureWorks, a company that makes a bioplastic from plants. With oil prices up sharply, "it's now obvious to just about everybody that our overdependence on oil is bad for our environment, bad for our economy."

The term bioplastics actually has two meanings: sometimes it is used to refer to plastics that contain a percentage of renewable materials; and sometimes to plastics that are both made from renewable materials and are biodegradable.

This ambiguity - and the fact that some bioplastics may also contain petroleum-based polymers - can cloud the green pedigree of a product.

Meanwhile, studies show that consumers are also confused about terms like "renewable" and "biodegradable." "Consumers believe that if it's renewable, then it's inherently good and it's inherently biodegradable," said Steve Mojo, executive director of the Biodegradable Products Institute, an advocacy group. "They also believe that biodegradation is a magical process that will make things disappear."

In fact, biodegradable means susceptible to degradation by microorganisms. But nothing actually breaks down in landfills. Modern landfills are, by design, hermetically sealed tombs for waste.

Nor will biodegradable products necessarily break down if tossed on the side of the road or buried in a backyard. A less confusing term is compostable, which means a product that can be returned to the soil in a beneficial manner.

"Compostable tells a consumer what to do with it," Mojo said, "whereas biodegradable doesn't."

Finally, weighing in on the issue of PLA and bio-plastics is The Guardian, the UK's venerable broadsheet from the left. John Vidal, environment editor at the Guardian had this to say about bio-plastics in an article posted last April:

The worldwide effort by supermarkets and industry to replace conventional oil-based plastic with eco-friendly "bioplastics" made from plants is causing environmental problems and consumer confusion, according to a Guardian study.

The substitutes can increase emissions of greenhouse gases on landfill sites, some need high temperatures to decompose and others cannot be recycled in Britain.

Many of the bioplastics are also contributing to the global food crisis by taking over large areas of land previously used to grow crops for human consumption.

The market for bioplastics, which are made from maize, sugarcane, wheat and other crops, is growing by 20-30% a year.

The industry, which uses words such as "sustainable", "biodegradeable", "compostable" and "recyclable" to describe its products, says bioplastics make carbon savings of 30-80% compared with conventional oil-based plastics and can extend the shelf-life of food.

Concern centres on corn-based packaging made with polylactic acid (Pla). Made from GM crops, it looks identical to conventional polyethylene terephthalate (Pet) plastic and is produced by US company NatureWorks. The company is jointly owned by Cargill, the world's second largest biofuel producer, and Teijin, one of the world's largest plastic manufacturers.

Pla is used by some of the biggest supermarkets and food companies, including Wal-Mart, McDonald's and Del Monte. It is used by Marks & Spencer to package organic foods, salads, snacks, desserts, and fruit and vegetables.

So about three weeks ago my Grandchildren parents went South to a wedding and I stayed here to get the downed tree of the yard and get rid of some of the weeds. The day before they lift my daughter asked me if the stores carried a cord to run the computer from the car’s cigarette lighter, and I said yes and she went out to go get the cord, I remembered she did not ask about the price so I decided to call a store and ask the price because she would call me and ask if the price on the box was a good price for the cord and I would ask the repair department to guess-to-mate the price to repair my tea-drowned computer, took it out of the case put it on the table hooked it up pressed the button and it booted looked for the world like a brand-new computer. My job now, I thought, is to test it and determine if it will require major repair work before I can press it back into service. Here are the only problems I have discovered by running it 24/7 for the last three weeks. When I use the keyboard, I get these errors when I press these keys. I am leaving the errors so you can see them. Th6is is wh6at h6appen wh6en you type on my computer th6at stop working after I spilled tea into th6e back left corners. Wh6en I press th6e w key (Find and Replace) dialog box pop up, press th6e f key and th6e (Insert Image Clipart) pops up, and I cannot make a dash6. As you can see wh6en, I press h, I get h6, for it to make since I took th6e six out with6 th6e backspaces, wh6ich6 will work sometime. Th6e good news is? Wh6en I test th6e computer each6 day. I cannot find problems any wh6ere else, just. Th6e keyboards will h6ave to be replaced.By the way, no word presser will correct the spelling, not Microsoft Work, or word, WordPerfect will not correct the spelling. The program that will correct all the errors is a program I use to compile information and have it all in one place and that program is EverNote.
This enables me to use the computer because it is three times faster than the other desktop and Notebook computer I am using as a substitute most of the time.
Here is what the smart people are saying: the keys in question can be reprogrammed to do what they are suppose to do, that is, make the letter it is designed to make. Another line of thinking is getting the recovery disk from the manufactory ($14.00) and I can run it and not have to reinstall all my software! And, of course, I can format the hard drive, reinstall all my software and it should be like new again. For some reason it seems to work better each passing day, for instance, the backspace will not remove the number 6 from the letter h unless I press it for a long time, but if I press it to long it deletes the entire word. Me, I am just happy to have it back in service and not showing any signs that it will malfunction some day. While typing this post on the other notebook, I am loading twenty CDs of various types of music onto my Notebook, all the stuff I like to hear and listen to as I work, because my CD player in the radio stops halfway through the CD for some unknown reason, so this will be my backup CD Player and TV daily.

3. 공유가 되었다면 해당 폴더에 손모양이 나타납니다.

여기까지가 일반적으로 다 알고 있는 네트워크에서 폴더를 공유하는 방법입니다. 다음은 공유된 폴더를 특정인만 볼 수 있도록 암호를 설정하는 방법입니다.

1. "시작"메뉴-모든 프로그램-보조프로그램-명령 프로프트를 클릭하여 도스창을
띄웁니다.

2. 도스창이 열렸으면 net user guest password를 입력하고 엔터를 칩니다. 그러
면 " 명령을 수행하였습니다."라는 메세지가 나옵니다.

3. 도스창을 닫고, "시작"메뉴-제어판-사용자계정으로 들어면, 사용중인 사용자명
계정과 guest계정 두개가 보입니다.

4. guest계정에 들어가서 "guest 계정 사용"이라는 단추를 클릭한 후 guest계정
암호변경에 들어가서 사용할 암호를 지정해줍니다.

이렇게 하면, 네트워크상에서 공유된 폴더를 열어보기위해서는 암호를 입력하여야하고, 암호입력 접속하여도, 공유해 놓은 폴더만 열 수 있습니다.

2) Un nom court et accrocheur:

En règle générale, un bon nom de domaine n'excède pas une vingtaine de caractères, pour des raisons de lisibilité. Un nom plus long vous portera plus préjudice que service et est fortement déconseillé. Faites le pari d'un nom court et attrayant. Si vous parvenez à conjuguer ces deux variables et vous maintenir en dessous des 10 caractères, vous mettez toutes les chances de votre coté.

3) L'Extension, un choix à part entière:

L'extension est la partie de l'adresse qui termine votre nom de domaine. Il donne généralement une idée de la nature du site (de son contenu) ou de sa zone de provenance. Il en existe plusieurs comme .com, .net, .gov, .tv, .info, et bien d'autres, à cela ajoutez une extension pour chaque pays (.fr, .ca, .se, .de, .co.uk...). Il faut savoir que certaines extensions sont soumises à certaines restrictions : les noms de domaine en .gov, par exemple, correspondent exclusivement aux sites gouvernementaux ou représentants de ministère. Les noms de domaine en .info, correspondent quant à eux, à des sites à caractère informatif.

Les noms de domaine en .com sont cependant les plus rependus et correspondent, en termes d'image de marque, au site internet par excellence. Voila pourquoi ils se montrent les plus facilement mémorisables par les internautes et les plus utilisés par les webmasters.

4) « Comment épelez-vous votre nom de domaine? »

Un nom de domaine difficile à épeler peut vous poser des problèmes de communication. Pensez à vos employés au téléphone ou avec vos clients qui devront le faire plusieurs fois dans la journée. Une adresse web erronée ou mal notée conduira vos clients potentiels directement chez vos concurrents et vous perdrez peut-être ici une bonne opportunité d'affaire. Ne mettez pas d'obstacles à vos visiteurs, au contraire, vous devez leur faciliter l'accès à votre site.

Optez alors pour un nom de domaine facilement prononçable (faites le test à haute voix en amont), avec des mots qui s'accordent bien et utilisés de tous. Vous devez trouver un son accrocheur qui puisse être prononçable par toutes les nationalités. Par exemple, KODAK a choisi son nom car il avait la caractéristique d'être prononçable par la totalité des langues et populations.

5) Communiquez par votre nom de domaine :

Plus qu'une adresse, vos futurs visiteurs doivent avoir une première idée du contenu de votre site uniquement en lisant votre nom de domaine. Le nom de votre compagnie, par exemple, ou bien tout autre type d'information. Votre communication commence par votre nom de domaine car il est un avant gout du contenu de votre site internet.

6) Evitez les symboles superflus:

Enfin, l'utilisation de chiffres, tirets, symboles, viendront polluer votre adresse et créer des obstacles à son accessibilité. Même si votre site est bien mémorisables, l'utilisation de ces caractères sera source de confusion dans l'entrée de votre adresse.

En résumé, vous aurez compris que le choix du nom de domaine de votre site corporatif est tout sauf une décision à prendre à la légère et que le choix judicieux de celui-ci représente la base de votre présence sur internet. To deal with it, first step is to call AfxOleInit() to initialize COM. According to MSDN, AfxOleInit() also initializes and registers a COleMessageFilter data member in the CWinApp.

Then, use one of the following to deal in your preferred way.

1. Use AfxOleGetMessageFilter()->SetMessagePendingDelay(nTimeout);

to set the wait period on outgoing COM calls. If the COM call takes longer than nTimeout milliseconds, then the MFC Client application displays the OLE Server Busy dialog box.

2. Use AfxOleGetMessageFilter()->EnableNotRespondingDialog(FALSE);

to disable the Not Responding dialog box, which is displayed if a keyboard or mouse message is pending during an OLE call and the call has timed out.

3. Use AfxOleGetMessageFilter()->EnableBusyDialog(FALSE);

to disable the busy dialog box from appearing after the COM call times out.

MSDN says OleInitialize and OleUninitialize instead of AfxOleInit can also suppress the dialog box. But in my case this did not happen.

A CString object consists of a variable-length sequence of characters. CString provides functions and operators using a syntax similar to that of Basic. Concatenation and comparison operators, together with simplified memory management, make CString objects easier to use than ordinary character arrays. CString is the most preferred way of creating a string type of variable in MFC.

While working with COM, you may encounter several occassions, when you need to do interconversion between these two. Many programmers find it difficult, but in fact, it is very easy to do this conversion.

I will show a simple example of string concatenation. Here an interface of a COM Server exposes a method that takes two BSTR and returns a BSTR that is a concatenated version of previous two. At the client side, its the CString that originally contains the individual strings. So a conversion of CString to BSTR will be required while calling the method. Simillary, while displaying the returned value, BSTR to CString conversion will be required.

Following is the sample code for some interface in COM Server.

La firma señala que durante el lapso referido procesó más de 50 mil millones de consultas diarias al Sistema de Nombres de Dominios (DNS), las cuales representan una instancia en la cual un usuario de Internet accede a un sitio web o envía un correo electrónico.

El último Resumen de la Industria de Nombres de Dominios en Internet destaca la importancia de la India, en donde existen más de 41 millones de usuarios de Internet, por lo cual se ubica como la octava población de usuarios de Internet más grande del mundo.

Precisa que esta cantidad de usuarios sólo representa aproximadamente 4.0 por ciento de la población total de la India, sin embargo, existen expectativas de crecimiento en la adhesión a Internet de sus habitantes, lo cual lo convierte en un mercado con alto potencial para el negocio de los nombres de dominios.
