Aujourd'hui, l'élève de Guillaume Macaire découvre un septième hippodrome au Lion d'Angers à l'occasion d'un engagement favorable. En effet, elle n'aurait pas eu droit à cette épreuve si elle s'était imposée en dernier lieu à Aix-les-Bains ! Même si elle aborde une distance aussi longue pour la première fois - comme tous ses rivaux d'ailleurs - elle devrait encore être dans le coup.

Frère utérin du bon Sudan, qui continue sa carrière aux Etats-Unis, ce représentant de l'écurie Wildenstein a pris deux premiers accessits en région parisienne lors de ses deux sorties à ce jour. Aujourd'hui, l'élève d'Elie Lellouche trouve une belle occasion d'ouvrir son palmarès à Vichy dans une course F. S'il a bien encaissé le long voyage, le fils d'Anabaa devrait mener sa tâche à bien.

In preparation of the coming school year, I have planned my courses again. I recall that I have signed up for all three mathematics courses, one business course, one law course, and one technological course. The mandatory courses were English and religion. I felt uneasy picking these courses because half of them (namely the maths) were courses that I did not find interest in. The technological course also seemed useless to me since I have already learnt the programs. The law course no longer interests me because a new teacher will be teaching it. Yes, I do not have very good impressions of new teachers. As for the business course, I intend to keep that in my list. In short, I think it's important to take useful courses that interest us as a person-even in this time of distress and worry. As my teacher says, it's free education, so why not? Well, it's kind of free, excluding school, course, and activity fees. I wouldn't dare to compare these to university tuitions though!

The course that I would like to talk about the most is philosophy. Yesterday, my father and I were discussing subjects. I personally believe that I hate the sciences with all my heart but my father insists that I still don't know if I do or not. He says that I never really tried to pry into the sciences because I always thought negatively of them. He started to explain how the sciences could be very interesting-like why things are they way they are or why things are not the way they are. He spoke about how it could be intriguing how our stomach digests our food or something of the like. Before I continue, I find that extremely boring. The only science that could possibly interest me is astrology and even in school, I didn't have a very good experience with it. Actually, my teacher emailed me and told me she liked my "webmaking skills" but all I did was create a blog for homework... Anyway, I started think about what interested me. I knew that science was definitely a no, but what would interest me? I remember reading Sparknotes one day about famous philosophers. I was amazed at their theories, and thus came my realization. My interest happens to be in philosophy! I felt proud to realize this interest but my father discouraged me, saying that philosophy can drive someone insane. Philosophy is a study that is based on ideas and beliefs, things that we cannot touch or measure. Because of this, my father believes that the people will become insane before they reach an answer. And I, being the stubborn child that I am, argued that scientists can easily become insane as well.

After all this talk about philosophy, I feel my goals waver. I don't know what I would like to pursue anymore because the only career that I can think of at the end of the philosophical road is a professor. Perhaps I can study philosophy on the side and focus on business? This must be youth, when I have too much time to settle on one path. I don't know if I should feel fortunate or not. In any case, my last chance is nearing.

Entraîné par Jean-Louis Labigne, ce trotteur de cinq ans réalise une belle carrière. Ménagé, ce fils d'Historien reste sur une remarquable troisième place dans le Prix René Ballière, n'étant devancé que par Exploit Caf et Olga du Biwetz. Aujourd'hui, il retrouve l'hippodrome d'Enghien et un lot dans ses cordes. S'il parvient à se faire ramener vers la tête sans trop d'efforts, il peut mettre tout le monde d'accord d'autant que la longue ligne droite finale va servir ses intérêts.

Ce hongre de sept ans est bien connu désormais, ayant notamment fait ses preuves dans de gros handicaps. Après deux courses de rentrée, l'élève de Joël Boisnard devrait faire sa valeur cet après-midi à Vichy dans une épreuve qu'il a remportée il y a deux ans. Associé à l'une des meilleures femmes jockeys, le fils de Septième Ciel devrait en toute logique jouer les premiers rôles.

First course was breaded shrimp served over garlic-rosemary beans.  I sautéed some thinly sliced red onion in oil, added sliced garlic, salt and pepper.  To that I added pink beans- I used canned beans that I had rinsed.  I like the creamy texture of a pink bean, and they need minimal work.  To this I added some fresh rosemary and let it just hang out.  Meanwhile, I took the shrimp that I had peeled, added salt and fresh pepper, and sautéed them in a little oil.  Before the shrimp are completely opaque, I added a generous amount of breadcrumbs and butter.  This gives a rich flavor to the dish, while toasting the breadcrumbs.  The dish is simple, and I like it as a first course.  (I wish I had fresh spinach on hand to add to the beans- I think it would have been a nice compliment.)

Course two was mostly prepared before course one because it needs time to marinate.  I took a recipe that came from a friend at City Harvest and just modified it a bit.  I took a little red wine vinegar and fresh lemon juice, and added red pepper flakes and chopped garlic.  I let it infuse a little while I washed, dried and cut my kale into a coarse chiffonade.  I cut strips of red bell pepper and red onion, added it to the kale.  I stripped the corn off of one cob, and added that to the vegetables.  The color is gorgeous- feel free to experiment.  If I had not done beans with the shrimp, I thought about adding them directly to the salad, as well.  I whisked in enough olive oil in my red wine vinegar mixture to emulsify it, and then added it to the vegetables.  I covered and refrigerated until ready to serve.  It's like a cold pasta salad in the sense that it needs time for the vinaigrette to be absorbed.  To serve, I crumbled goat cheese on top.  (You could definitely serve it without the cheese, but I do love the rich creamy cheese with the bite of the dressing!)

Course three was my favorite, but I totally got it from Real Simple Magazine.  I know- I totally cheated.  I can't help it- the women over there know what they're doing...and when I read about it, I just wanted to eat it.  I tweaked it just a little.  I made chicken cutlets with sautéed tomatoes.  I replaced the scallions in the recipe with thinly sliced onions, and the tarragon with a mixture of fresh rosemary, thyme and marjoram.  I split my tomatoes in two because I don't like them to burst.  I browned chicken (seasoned with salt and pepper) and set aside.  I added the tomatoes to the same skillet with onions and salt and pepper.  I sautéed for two minutes, pulled the pan off the heat to add some dry white wine.  Returned to the heat and let wine reduce by half, stirring often.  Just before pulling off the heat, I added some butter and the herbs.  Served this over the chicken, and it was to-die-for! 

I was uninspired by dessert.  It was too hot, and I just wanted something light.  I picked up some mango sorbet at the store- served it with diced fresh mango and fresh blueberries that I crushed and sweetened with a vanilla maple syrup.  Unfortunately, the mango sorbet left something to be desired.  Perhaps next time I will just stick to lemon sorbet which I seem to have more luck with or even make a quick fruit granite.  Want a tasty and simple summer drink?  I have been making this for a number of years: thinly slice lemons and limes.  Add a generous amount of sugar, and press lightly to 'juice' them slightly.  Add ice and some white wine, and you have your own wine cooler.  (We like big glasses in my house, but you could serve in wine or martini glasses!)

Aujourd'hui, j'ai travaillé de 10h à 17h. J'ai pu finir mes heures, contrairement à hier où j'ai été malade vers 15 heures... La nausée m'a suivi une partie de la journée avant de prendre la décision de me laisser tranquille. Pas à s'inquiéter pour les nausées, les amis, je peux vous l'assurer. Quelque chose a dû mal passer, je suppose. La journée a été fort sympathique. J'ai appris à utiliser la caisse. +1 point en polyvalence. En déballant des commandes, j'ai discuté avec Louis, le gérant. Nos sujets étaient aussi intéressants qu'amusants ! Le travail s'est bien passé.

Après le boulot, je suis allée à la découverte de l'épicerie en passant par le terrain de jeu/parc en face de la maison. Lei pourra confirmer ma blonde attitude : j'ai traversé le stationnement entier d'IGA en passant à côté des portes sans le voir. Je me suis rendu à l'autre bout du terrain du petit centre d'achat, persuadée que le IGA était quelque part derrière. Bloquée par une clôture, je me suis retourner en grommelant à Lei avec qui je discutais au cellulaire et, soudainement, ô merveille, ô miracle, je vois l'épicerie. Et j'ai honte. J'ai fait des courses comme vous le devinez. Du pain, des oeufs, bananes, clémentines, concombres, des friandises glacées Rollo, tartinade aux framboises... Je rentre à la maison.

Nathalie est arrivée entre-temps ! Tiens donc !

Avec des sacs d'épiceries ! La moitié de nos achats étaient les mêmes. Nous avons donc pris la résolution de nous prévenir mutuellement si nous passions faire les courses, par cellulaire ou par post-it. -_-

Parlant de Nathalie (ma propriétaire), j'ai passé 2-3 heures à discuter ce soir avec elle. On a soupé ensemble devant un Harry Potter 4 qui a joué sans qu'on lui porte vraiment attention, discutant de voyages qu'elle a fait dans le passé, de ceux que je veux réaliser, de baroque, de romantisme, de tragédies, de Bethoveen, de films, de livres, de poésies, de double astrologie, de nos boulots, de nos types d'hommes, ... Ça a été relaxant. J'ai adoré ma soirée.

Sinon, j'ai pris 16 résolutions ce matin, toutes réfléchies depuis un moment ! La plupart sont juste logique et théoriquement je devrais déjà le faire, mais bon...

1. Faire 30 minutes d'exercices quotidiens pour ma souplesse.
2. Faire 3 fois 30 minutes de sport par semaine.
3. Préparer mes lunch la veille et non le matin même.
4. À moins d'empêchement extrême, faire ce que j'ai à faire dans les deux jours qui suivent la date où j'ai à le faire (je dois me recommander une carte d'assurance sociale).
5. Prendre plus soin de ma peau.
6. Sortir au moins 2 fois par semaine avec des amis, qu'importe le type de sortie.
7. Écrire au moins au 2 jours sur mon blog et composer un post intelligent au moins une fois par semaine.
8. Tenir le fil de mes dépenses et de mes rentrées d'argent.
9. Devenir bilingue.
10. Être capable de tenir une conversation de base en espagnol (pour le boulot, être capable de me débrouiller)
11. Économiser 60 $ par semaine à partir de mes chèques de paie pour le mettre dans un compte de banque réservé aux voyages.
12. Tenir un journal santé.
13. Manger plus sainement.
14. Dormir minimum 6h 30 par nuit.
15. Être plus écologiste (moins gaspiller d'eau, éteindre les lumières, recycler plus que je ne le fais déjà, etc).

Je me donne un mois pour commencer à les mettre en application. Attention, je ne dis pas les avoir toutes réalisées et toutes les tenir sans faute, loin de là. Je dois démontrer une volonté d'accomplir chacun des points d'ici la mi-août et d'avoir commencer à les mettre en pratique, même si c'est une fois aux 5 jours. Je ferai de mon mieux ! Je suis motivée à les suivre !

Petite note : Les Rolos glacés, c'est pas bon. N'en achètez pas.

Bien connu au niveau des quintés, ce concurrent chevronné ne daigne pas toujours s'employer désormais. Sa dernière sortie à Longchamp est toutefois bonne (4ème dans un gros handicap). Aujourd'hui, l'élève de Myriam Bollack redescend de catégorie dans un réclamer à Chantilly. Il devra redouter en priorité l'Allemand Soterio mais il a hérité d'un bon numéro dans les stalles et il est capable d'aller devant, ce qui s'avère souvent une bonne tactique sur l'hippodrome des Princes de Condé. Sa place est à l'arrivée.

A select few classes have kicked my ass for the better. This is what I expected when I enrolled in a university. So, without further ado, here are the classes I've loved.

• Honors 101/102 with Mary Thurlkill - She cured my addiction to transitions (although, it's still there when I turn away). I still attend her Maypole and belly dancing parties.
• Photojournalism with Robert Jordan - This class kicked my ass, but I'm a better photographer for it, and I know how to use my camera a little better.
• Topics in Journalism (Civil Rights) with Curtis Wilkie - Story time was never better until I read his book, "Dixie."
• Topics in Journalism (Food Writing) with John T. Edge - Also kicked my ass and changed the way I look at "fluffy" journalism and feature-writing.
• History of the French Revolution with Marc Lerner - Wow. Finally a class that made me feel academic. I had to write a 12-page paper, I studied for the exam more than any other, and I still know a thing or two about Thermidor.
• History of Religion in the South with Charles Reagan Wilson - He made a history class personal with his choice of soul-searching required reading and a final project on my family's religious history.
• Beginning Fiction with David Galef - He uses every second of class time even when class meets two days in a row for three hours each session. I've never listened to such engaging and memorable/animated lectures. And he helped me turn my "interesting" character sketches into stories with plot.
• French Conversation & Composition II and La Chanson Francophone with Daniel O'Sullivan - O'Sullivan is the most dedicated French teacher ever. He will dance around the room refusing to speak English until you understand the word "kick." He got me to read an entire adult-sized novel in French, and the next semester I was able to identify (artist/title/topic) a passing number of 172 potential French songs by about 15 seconds worth of lyrics.

Of course, this is not the complete list of educators who have changed me for the better.

If you're curious about the long list, it includes classes that:

• Had too high of an enrollment to do anything meaningful with a basic subject matter I already understood.
• Had too many students at the low end for the teacher to focus on teaching the median (I have been excused from class for having "completed it early," and I've taken creative writing courses with students seemingly unaware of subject-verb agreement.)
• Had a professor who just didn't care (Multiple choice: Which hurricane hit the Gulf Coast last month? -September, 2005)
• Had a professor who pretended to be above the class and its students (We won a grade appeal against him!)
• Had a professor who was just too outrageous to take seriously (Have I misplaced my diamond-tipped pen? Let me call my secretary while at the podium.)

De valeur listed-race dans sa jeunesse, ce hongre de sept ans n'est plus aussi performant désormais mais il réalise une bonne année, comptant déjà trois victoires (dont deux petits handicaps) en cinq sorties. Aujourd'hui, le fils de Linamix trouve encore une belle occasion de s'illustrer sur l'hippodrome de Compiègne dans un réclamer. Meilleur valeur handicap du lot, adepte de la course en avant (un avantage sur cette piste, répétons le !), bien placé dans les stalles et bénéficiant de deux kilos et demi de décharge avec la monte d'Edouard Lacaille, le pensionnaire d'Elie Lellouche constitue le favori logique de l'épreuve.
