Yes, it is true. The movie has been pushed back. Rumors are flying that it has to deal with Daniel R

Yes, it is true. The movie has been pushed back. Rumors are flying that it has to deal with Daniel Radcliffe will be right in the middle of his sensational, highly publicized run on Broadway in the play, "Equus." Radcliffe appears naked in the play, on stage, during the release of the Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince.

That has nothing to do with it. Radcliffe's naked pictures have been on the web for at least two years now and his performing Equus during the time the movie would have no effect on the movie. The real reason is as simple as the nose of your face: GREED! After you read the statements from Warner Brothers I believe you will come to same conclusion.

BURBANK, Calif.Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that it has moved back the release date of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” to Summer 2009. The sixth installment of the blockbuster Harry Potter

franchise will now open day-and-date domestically and in the major international markets on July 17, 2009. The announcement was made by Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.

In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, “Our reasons for shifting ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move ‘Half-Blood Prince’ to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.”

Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, confirmed, “The release date change does not alter the production schedule for this or future Harry Potter films. Post-production on ‘Half-Blood Prince’’s release plans for the two-part ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ will not be affected by this change. We know Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the final chapters unfold onscreen. In fact, the good news for them is that the gap will now be shortened between ‘Half-Blood Prince’ and the first part of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.’” was completed on time, and the studio

Commenting on the release date change for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” David Heyman, the producer of all the Harry Potter films, offered, “When Jeff Robinov explained the rationale behind moving the release date of ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ to July 2009, it was immediately apparent that this offered us the potential to reach the widest possible audience. I am extremely proud of this latest film and of the work of David Yates and our incomparable cast; I believe we have developed and pushed the series further still. We are all looking forward to sharing it with Harry Potter fans around the world, even if we have to wait just a bit longer.”

David Yates, the director of both “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and who will also helm “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” added, “It has been a joy to work on ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.’ Dan, Rupert and Emma and all our returning young cast continue to blossom, and our new cast members bring fresh color and life to Hogwarts. Even as we put the finishing touches on this latest film, we are already beginning preparations on the final two films—we start filming in February—and I am excited to bring this remarkable series to the exciting and moving conclusion its loyal fans deserve.”

In “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films production, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” David Yates, who directed last year’s summer blockbuster “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” returns to direct “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” David Heyman and David Barron are the producers, with Lionel Wigram serving as executive producer. Steve Kloves wrote the screenplay, based on the book by J.K. Rowling.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are reprising their roles as young wizards Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The film also stars Jim Broadbent, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Timothy Spall, David Thewlis and Julie Walters. The cast also features David Bradley, Jessie Cave, Frank Dillane, Tom Felton, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, Helen McCrory, Natalia Tena, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Bonnie Wright.

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

So there you have it: Corporate Greed! This is what truly pisses me off, every Harry Potter movie, EVERY ONE has been released going into the Christmas season. It's a tradition, it's something to look forward to during that time of the year. Thanks a Million GRINCH & SCROOGE (WB) you really know how to & killed the season!

This biographical account of the tempestuous, taboo-shattering love affair between two 19th century French poets--Paul Verlaine (David Thewlis) and Arthur Rimbaud (Leonardo DiCaprio)--didn't do much at the box office when it was released in 1995. But after the success of Titanic, it became somewhat infamous when Playgirl magazine announced its intention to publish nude pictures of DiCaprio taken from the film. (Nobody much seemed to care that Thewlis, who also starred in Mike Leigh's Naked, also appears nude in Total Eclipse.) The truth is, the nudity in question only lasts for a few frames, but it's certainly in character for the young wild-man Rimbaud.

Directed by Agnieszka Holland (Europa, Europa, The Secret Garden), Total Eclipse begins in 1870 when the newly married Verlaine is 24 and Rimbaud is 17. The volatile combination of their reckless passions, idiosyncratic talents, and obnoxious egos is a recipe for disaster--and l'amour fou--culminating in a two-year prison term for Verlaine who was convicted of sodomy. DiCaprio's work in this film (as well as This Boy's Life, What's Eating Gilbert Grape?, and The Basketball Diaries) proves he is a serious actor who's interested in risky, challenging work--not just the matinee idol he became in the wake of Titanic. --Jim Emerson

The story of Paul Verlaine's indulgent affair with Arthur Rimbaud. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and David Thewlis.

get a millenial and a gen-xer in the room and i can almost guarantee you, the gen-xer will value "the bends" and the millenial will be about "ok computer" (or maybe kid a/amnesiac if they're REALLY pretentious). nate, at twenty-two, is a millenial. jimmy, tail end of gen x. the argument would get heated, and end in hearts broken. people don't fuck around with radiohead.

um, what else about this page? fourth panel is ahmed demonstrating his elite and somewhat illegal medical skillz he uses to help out his friends without health insurance. (see character profile for details). jimmy also doesn't call him out because you can't get mad at the chill & chubby guy. it's just not possible.

in other news, i was watching harry potter & the prisoner of azkaban and was astounded by how much ream-us (SOOOOO GAAAAY) lupin's actor resembles jimmy. maybe it's just the pedostache (which actually in jimmy's case is more a hipster/ironic stache). CHECK IT OUT.

except jimmy is a brunette. no gingers, plz. also jimmy eats food. he is a red-blooded american, after all!

»</fieldset>

Rated PG-13 for intense battle sequences and brief language.

116 Minutes

The way I see it, we’ve got what, we’ve got 650 years of knowledge on these guys. If we put our heads together, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to get out of here and home in 20 minutes. -Chris Johnston

Synopsis

A group of archaeological students are working on recovering the remains of Dorigone Valley in France. They are approached by a corporate team that explains they need to be sent back through time to help save their professor in the 14th century. Basically, according to the scientists at hand, they are “faxing” the students back through time. Surviving the violence of a war and trying to rescue their professor becomes peril rather than a leisurely trip back to a historic time.

Review

Like Stephen King, Michael Crichton’s techno-thrillers don’t always translate well onscreen. Whether it’s due to bad screenwriters or directer’s who don’t comprehend the scope of his novels is unknown, but Timeline is a movie that wasn’t as bad as I initially thought it would be. The story itself stuck reasonably close to the tale Micheal Crichton wove, which was actually one of his more suspenseful novels, though lacking more in the technicality department. The entire idea of the story played out really well onscreen, but unfortunately it missed too many character developing beats, and the mediocre acting of Paul Walker distracted it from being something moderately good, to just ok.

The actual dialogue in the screenplay was an issue. Campy lines like the one quoted above delivered from voice of Paul Walker comes across as more of Bill and Ted trying to save the Princesses than an actual serious action adventure flick. That combined with the set and costume design that actually looked like it had been dug out of the back of an old Shakespearean theatre, with the obnoxious overdone colors and obviously less than expensive costs made it have the feel of a comedy. However, it seems the bulk of the film was focused on explosives and distracting special effects. I guess when you are failing everywhere else, the idea is to blow something up and distract the viewer. Have Richard Donnor and Micheal Bay met? On a serious note, when a film generally comes off as trying to be a popcorn fun action flick, this scenario sometimes works, but Donnor was taking on essentially a very complicated and smart science fiction story. It’s complexity ate his attempt to simplify it for breakfast.

Cast

Paul Walker as Chris Johnston

Frances O’Connor as Kate Ericson

Gerard Butler as Andre Marek

Billy Conolly as Professer E.A. Johnston

David Thewlis as Robert Doniger

Anna Friel as Lady Claire

Unfortunately, Paul Walker’s whimsical surfer attitude is just not plausible for his supposed intellectual, though brutish character. Gerard Butler and Frances O’Connor made things move along well enough, and occasionally compensated for Walker’s disastrous attempts at acting, but his terrible inability to be versatile was left naked and exposed.

Ratings and Suggestions

Timeline did not live up to it’s reputation for being a complete failure of a movie, though it certainly fell short in many categories. It was fine for a mindless few hours of passing the time on my local cable station and was suitable in that category. When put up against some of the amazing Science Fiction and Action feature films of today, it fell into the category of unacceptable. Though I’m a fan of Paul Walker’s smoldering good looks, some of the weaker aspects of the film may have been easier to ignore without his whole “dude” performance. Unfortunately, they weren’t. For a mediocre movie with a handsome lead and cool explosions, but no substance outside that, Timeline is a movie to catch on the tele for free and leave it at that. Then you won’t be disappointed. One and a Half out of Four Stars.

Not often you'll see a good review on this horrible, bile-filled website, but if you saw The Street last night you'll probably agree that it deserves a mention.

I've only seen a few episodes of Cracker in my time and The Lakes had that 'orrible John Simm in it (who is probably lovely but who I can't bear), so I'm not really au fait with Jimmy McGovern's output, shamefully. On the strength of this I'll have to revise that fact with a few DVD boxsets. This was bloody ace.

The Street last night featured David Thewlis, who was a revelation in Mike Leigh's 'Naked' all those years ago, and who didn't disappoint last night as a pair of identical twins. Without spoiling the plot in case you've recorded in on your old skool VHS or one of those infernal little Sky+ things, the story revolved around one twin inhabiting the life of his deceased brother after witnessing his death. The whole thing reeked of quality and as it was on the BBC, was uninterrupted by advertising. This meant a solid hour of quality entertainment on British terrestial television - probably a first for a good few years.

Sorry for the scant writing on WWM this week. There's been so much unremarkable shite on, it's actually broken a few records. Even Dragons' Den's become a boring, flabby titwank.

I know this is a Halloween featurette but not all the entries on this list will be what you might class as 'horror' movies. It's just that, for me, seeing someone get their head chopped off is the most horrific death you could see in a movie. Sure, there are gorier deaths or unexpected deaths that have a similar impact, but there's just something about a beheading that gives me the willies.

5: MRS VOORHEES (Friday The 13th, 1980)

It took me a while to get around to seeing the first film in this series, having previously only sampled the Jason-centric entries. It was part of a Halloween triple bill in Derby that also included The Lost Boys and The Shining. I've since moved to a place that is close to only Odeons and Showcases who have no room to show cool special triple bills or Star Trek marathons because they couldn't possibly show the latest Will Smith vehicle on less than eight of the ten fucking screens they've got, what're you thinking? Shut up and take your pills consumers. Anyway, the second best moment in the film comes a little before the first with some chunky jumper and slo-mo swinging action that elicited a drunken cheer from the midnight audience in Derby those many moons ago (1996, I think). The greatest drunken cheer of the night was saved for the famed sweaty sax player from The Lost Boys (soon to be seen in the Top Ten Unsung Heroes of 80's Film Sweat)

4: CLANCY BROWN (Highlander, 1986)

Long before achieveing superstar status voicing Mr Krabs Clancy Brown was best known to me as the guttural voiced, Connery-slaying, priest-licking Kurgan. Prehaps overwhelmed by carrying around a neckfull of blue swirly ghosties the Kurgan meets his demise at the hands of Connor McCloud of the Clan McCloud and his mighty trainers/raincoat combo of doom (see also Michael Biehn in The Terminator). This guy is so nails he even strikes a couple of macho sword poses even after his head has tumbled.

3: GWYNETH PALTROW (Se7en, 1995)

The only one on the list you don't see, but you don't need to see it to feel the impact. I read somewhere once how there was an alternate ending to this where they caught John Doe breaking into the apartment to perform the deed and stopped him in some way or another, I forget. Close call. I remeber walking out of the cinema after seeing this feeling as if I hadn't untensed for two hours, the same way I felt after seeing Aliens for the first time. The 'head-in-the-box' ending was genius and came out of nowhere. The whole time from John Doe turning himself in you're sitting there wondering what he's got up his sleeve. Then they're driving him out to the middle of nowhere, Dr Cox is circling in his SWAT 'copter, the delivery guy turns up, box, bang, brilliant.

2: ANDY GARCIA (Black Rain, 1989)

In Black Rain (the single most underrated Ridley Scott movie) Andy Garcia plays the most likeable movie cop you'll ever meet outside of Steve "Ma-homo" Guttenberg and Leslie "Nice beaver" Nielsen. Having spent the majority of the film backing up his partner (Michael Douglas) in meat locker shootouts, IA investigations and mullett grooming, he finally takes centre stage. First we get a some Little Richard karaoke bonding followed by some ill advised matador action with a gang of bikers. The subsequent beheading by the bike riding swordsman villain is quite graphic, and has the greater impact for me due to Andy Garcia's performance.

1: DAVID WARNER (The Omen, 1976)
I watched The Omen remake a few months back and was underwhelmed to say the least (shocking, but true). I think I spent the majority of the film wondering what they were going to do to David Thewlis (probably the best casting choice in the whole film, like a malteser in a bag of fried monkey balls). I went in with an open mind, as remakes have worked in the past (TOP TEN coming soon), and was rewarded with the Thewlis appearing in the greatest Final Destination scene never to appear in a Final Destination movie. Looking back at the David Warner's appointment with the glazier it might actually hold some responsibility for films like Final Destination, so I don't know where the Omen remakers could've gone with that without changing the manner of death competely. From first seeing the original this was the scene that stayed with me. I'd never seen anything like it before, and on rewatching I'd get goosebumps knowing the scene was on its' way with its' perfect *shink* of glass through the air and subsequent neck and the graceful head rotation in multiple angles. Unforgettable.

Chi ha suggerito a Gary Oldman (Sirius Black) quel tic all'occhio destro?

Luna Lovegood: Well, if I were You-Know-Who, I'd want you to feel cut off from everyone else. 'Cause if it's just you alone, you're not as much of a threat.

/Imdb/

I know it might not seem like there is much rhyme or reason to the films I review, so I figured I had better explain myself a little. I simply review films as I watch them. There is not really a plan or characterization that I wish to follow through with; this blog is simply a place for the recording of my thoughts on various films as I get them.

Last night's selection was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004). This is the third of the Harry Potter films and features a significantly darker edge than the previous two films. It also ages Potter and the gang a bit more distinctly as they start to flirt with the idea of some romantic notions and some hormonal changes. Potter looks more advanced and more serious in this film than the previous two, for example.

Daniel Radcliffe is, of course, back as Harry Potter. We open with a sort of "Great Expectations" vibe as Potter is with his aunt and uncle in their home and is taking a lot of verbal abuse about his family from his rather rotound aunt. In a funny and quirky sequence, Potter makes his aunt even more rotound and she floats off into the skyline which causes Potter to run away. A strange and exciting turn of events later and Potter is back in business at Hogwart once again with all of his friends.

This time, in Potter's third year at Hogwart's, we have a new "Defense Against the Black Arts" teacher that takes an interest in Potter early on. He is Professor Lupin, played by David Thewlis, and he has a dark secret as well. Also on the loose is Sirius Black, a supposed "madman" whom everyone believes is after Harry's life. Black, played wonderfully but briefly by Gary Oldman, also turns out to be more than he appears.

It is a darker vision for the film, as mentioned, and the directorial style brings a quirkiness to the darkness that creates some big laughs and some nice twists and turns. Especially of note is the wonderfully captivating end sequence of the film in which Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) and Harry Potter go back in time to save two lives.

The creatures in the film are grand but dark, including the creepy Dementors, and the overall mood of the film casts a shadowy pall over a lot of the characters. Gone are some of the more jubilant moments from the two other Potter films and the wondrous curiosity of being at Hogwart is trickling away as the young wizards get down to some serious business. This is a nice turn in the story that allows for some more range and creativity from the actors and a greater vision from the production.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is directed by Alfonso Cuaron from Mexico. This is his first Potter film. Cuaron is mostly known for his foreign work but he worked as a director on Great Expectations, A Little Princess, and the steamy Y tu mamá también. He brings a mood to the film that shows an adequate familiarity with the material and creates, sometimes with insightful glee, some of the more dark moments of the story to interesting outcomes.

As Potter descends into a darker world with this outing, he begins to show some signs of descending into darkness himself. While Radcliffe pulls this off nicely, the film does seem to be a sudden leap forward in a darker direction which may put off some of the younger viewers. While it's not THAT dreary, it does lack a lot of the funnier moments of the previous films and gets more of its humor from dark irony and sarcasm. The creativity is there, of course, but some of it becomes muddled towards the middle of the picture. This causes a reliance on some special effects that partially get explained later but still lead to some confusion.

All in all, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban offers an exciting and enticing look at the Potter world but comes up slightly short on providing a full experience. It is still a good film with lots of dark moments and a quirky spice, but I tend to prefer other outings in the series a little bit better because they come out as more clear films on the whole. This one, at times, feels like half a movie.

6.5/10
