Lest there be any doubt that Diane Finley is a desperate woman whose campaign has gone up in flames, we have confirmation today that she is skipping yet another debate (this time shunning the Rotory club in Simcoe) to spend the day travelling around Caledonia with the minister of finance Jim Flaherty.

Hopefully someone will think to ask him about the $0 he has given to the businesses and residents of Caledonia and the millions given to the OPP to nap in their cars for the past 2 ½ years.

Just in case sauntering around with Flaherty isn't enough to blind voters to the fact that she abandoned them as soon as the going got tough, a plane carrying Prime Minister Stephen Harper is scheduled to land at Mount Hope airport tomorrow.

Perhaps while Harper is trying to schmooze with the little people in this riding, someone can ask him where he's been while the residents of Caledonia have been under attack.

If in fact Mr. Harper is coming to the Simcoe fair which appears likely, one must wonder what his strategy is for regaining votes lost by Finley. Is he prepared to sit in a dunk tank while angry voters hurl balls at a picture of Diane Finley where the bulls eye would usually be?

I would love to ponder this at length but have to head out because unlike Diane Finley, Gary McHale does not travel with cabinet ministers and the PM.

He travels the counties with actual residents (but not more than 15 in Caledonia as per his bail restriction) and today I'm on the road with Gary as he meets and greets residents on his way to the debate in Caledonia tonight. Will Finley show up? Will she trot Flaherty into the Lions hall tonight like a trophy?

Without question it will be a memorable evening as McHale goes one on one with Dr. Hoskins in territory that Finley has been avoiding for more than 2 years.

For the second time in as many debates, Diane Finley decided not to show up today to an all candidates meeting held by the Hamilton Spectator and televised throughout Haldimand Norfolk to her constituents. I must say that as a constituent I'm beginning to question her dedication to this job.

I touched recently on the impression I received from Dr. Hoskins that he's not someone who would be able to lower himself to the level of the common constituent, and should point out that having spoken with and volunteered for Diane Finley in the last election, I know her to be incapable of it. That's not coming from an impression or a theory, it's personal experience with her.

After no showing her constituents in Dunnville, and now bailing out of a televised debate for the entire riding, one has to wonder if she'll bother to show up on Monday at the Caledonia debate, and if so will she be accompanied by the RCMP as she has been in the past when meeting with residents?

It's possible that she'll show up at the Wednesday all candidates night in Simcoe as she might still see it as a stronghold despite her absolute failure to do anything for anyone, but if the rumours we're hearing from the business community that Stephen Harper is being scheduled to put in an appearance at the Simcoe fair prove to be true, then even the most die hard Finley booster must be able to smell the (illegal rollie) smoke of defeat billowing from the ears of our lame duck MP.

The only question remaining is how much of the mud sticking to Finley does the PC party want to let rub off on Harper? They're projected to win at least another minority at this point, and surely they must realize that trying to save Finley now is about as productive as trying to tow the Titanic back to port with a canoe.

It's been only 7 days since Gary McHale became a certified Independent candidate in Haldimand Norfolk, but Diane Finley has already made it clear she sees him as a major threat to her ambitions of being re-elected.

After Haldimand Mayor Marie Trainer told the Simcoe Reformer that "McHale's candidacy guarantees that the rest of the field would have to talk about Haldimand's ongoing problems related to native land claims", Finley confronted her in what I as a voter would interpret as an effort to silence one of very few legitimately objective voices.

It's understandable that Finley was riled by the mayor's comment however as she likely realized at that point that McHale will force her to answer for her complete failure as an MP to the people of Haldimand Norfolk. Indeed if I were Diane Finley I too would be terrified of Gary McHale as his platform of accountability will make her policy of lying to the people and then hiding from them quite difficult to maintain during an election.

It appears that in a desperate effort to figure out how to deal with McHale, she may have phoned the last person on the planet that anyone should ever speak to, Julian Fantino as she is now spewing the same tired rhetoric that he has been for nearly 2 years.

"My concern with Gary McHale is that the peace in Caledonia is very fragile; very fragile," Finley said. "It doesn't need anyone stirring it up, and frankly that's all I've seen him do."  This is what she told the Simcoe Reformer when asked about her comments to the Mayor.

Fragile peace is what Fantino (and now Diane Finley) calls the oppression of the human rights of Caledonia residents that is enforced by the OPP in order to appease Native criminals, and as for her claim to have seen someone do something in Caledonia, that's a bold faced lie as Finley has avoided Caledonia like the plague for 2 ½ years while those who elected her begged her to help end their suffering.

One thing we can safely assume with Finley is that if voted back in, she will not stir anything up in Caledonia. She will ignore the terrorism taking place against residents just as she ignored Sam Gualtieri when he was nearly killed by Native thugs, and if she has her way the entire situation will quietly fester while she rides out another term in office and collects a nice fat pension from the tax payers she failed so miserably.

With a Federal election just 5 weeks away, I received what I presume to be the first campaign literature from Diane Finley this week. 2 flyers arrived asking me to reply to 2 questions. Who is on the right track on child care, and who is on the right track on the long gun registry? I'm given the choice of Stephane Dion, Stephen Harper, Jack Layton, or Elizabeth May, but I'm told to reply to a big smiling picture of the Minister of Immigration Diane Finley.

The slogan "Real Action, Real Results" then appears underneath Finley which forces me to wonder aloud, what action has she taken for Haldimand or Norfolk since becoming our federal representative, and what results has she achieved for us?

During the last federal election, I actively campaigned for Finley and on Election Day I scrutineered on her behalf, then celebrated at her victory party. In fact I clearly remember a conversation I had with her that night in which I told her "I know you'll make us proud". I'm not afraid to admit that I was very wrong.

In the early days of the Caledonia crisis, Finley seemed as though she was going to work to provide a voice to her constituents as they were under attack, and on May 19, 2006 she made a memorable posting on her website. "From here on in, I will be sending out updates such as this every week until this situation's resolved, so that you can be kept as informed as possible. As you deserve to be."

Those updates never materialized which leaves me wondering what happened. Did she lose track of time for 28 months? Did we become less deserving of being informed within a week of that statement? Did the lives of the thousands of constituents being affected by the terrorism in Caledonia become less important to her in that time? Or was she simply lying through her teeth when she made the promise to keep us updated?

If she was lying about keeping us informed, what else has she lied about? A big part of her campaign was law and order but she's yet to make an appearance at a place where thousands of crimes have been committed while the police stand by and watch. She promised to help the tobacco farmers who have suffered under her watchful eye until it became clear that an election was on the horizon. Now at the last possible minute she has promised to start throwing money at them, but of course they only get the money if she is re elected. Could that be a coincidence? Why was it acceptable for these people to suffer for almost 3 years, but suddenly they deserve her attention?

After it became extremely clear to everyone including Diane Finley that the people in Caledonia were infuriated by her refusal to acknowledge their plight, she chose to continue to ignore them and does so to this day. She's done nothing to help the children of Sixth Line who have no policing, she made no effort to visit Sam Gualtieri or his family after the vicious attack that nearly cost him his life, and she has attended none of the events that have been held by various groups over the past 2 ½ years.

On November 25, 2005 she wrote a column on her website stating "As individuals, we are all accountable for what we do. Each of us in our everyday lives has responsibilities that we must live up to and people to whom we are accountable. If we don't hold up our end of the deal, we suffer the consequences."

Well Diane it's your turn to be held accountable for what you've done, and it's time to ask yourself if you have lived up to your responsibilities, and if those of us you are accountable to have been given a single reason to ever again trust your word, and if we can't do that how can we possibly cast a vote in your favor?

Haldimand Mayor Marie Trainer had some interesting thoughts for the Brantford Expositor and the Simcoe Reformer when asked this week about Gary McHale running for MP of Haldimand Norfolk in the upcoming federal election. (story)

"With McHale in the race, Trainer says Haldimand's quest for peace, law and order, stability and justice will feature prominently in the coming campaign. She says McHale will force the other candidates to state their position on the issue of two-tiered justice."

She's very clearly implying that without Gary McHale, the other candidates would simply ignore the critical issues facing Haldimand County, and this is coming from a Mayor who has had plenty of dealings with Diane Finley over the past 2 ½ years, so she has some insight into the thought process of the PC candidate that the rest of us do not as nobody has been able to meet or speak with her about Caledonia.

In fact with McHale in the running it stands to reason that both Diane Finley and the Liberal candidate Eric Hoskins will have to answer simple but vitally important questions that both would have otherwise been able to dodge. Where have they been while Caledonia has been under attack? What is their view of race based policing? What have they done to help expose and put an end to it? What steps would they take to bring an end to the residents being victimized both by Native Radicals as well as by OPP Policies?

The assertion that without McHale, peace, justice, law and order would have been cast to the side comes from a mayor who has been on the front lines, sat with her constituents and heard their horror stories, stood with them as they were attacked, seen with her own eyes that the OPP are unwilling to prevent Natives from committing crimes let alone arrest them for it, and had Commissioner Fantino attempt to threaten her into silence on these issues.

Even the media has come to understand that it is the OPP and the McGuinty that has tried to slander McHale's credibility. In the same story we read, " Despite the OPP's and the McGuinty government's attempts to cast McHale as a troublemaker, Haldimand Mayor Marie Trainer thinks his candidacy is positive."

As a constituent I'm fascinated by how much McHale has changed the landscape of an election that hasn't even officially been called yet, and I can't wait to see what happens over the next 6 weeks.

There are two rumoured contenders to replace Ms. Buckler: Kory Teneycke, the party's director of research, who worked with Mr. Giorno in Mr. Harris's office; and Jason Lietaer, a consultant who recently moved to Ottawa and who also worked for Mr. Giorno at Queen's Park.

One tidbit that the article doesn't mention about Lietaer is that he also served as general director of the Ontario Flue-Cured Tobacco Growers Marketing Board, which put him at the opposite side of the negotiating table from the Norfolk County's Conservative MP  - and cabinet minister - Diane Finley during last year's failed attempt to persuade Ottawa to provide funding for farmers that want to switch to a less contentious crop :

On Thursday, board chairman Fred Neukamm, along with General Manager Jason Lietaer met in Ottawa with Local MP Diane Finley and AG Minister Chuck Strahl. Neukamm tells CD 98.9 the government is willing to work on an exit-strategy - if the board was willing to compromise on the price tag. Neukamm says in order to get things moving forward the board has made the tough decision to be more flexible where money is concerned. No financial aid was presented for tobacco growers in last months federal and provincial budgets.

Unfortunately, the lobby effort proved unsuccessful; since then, relations between Finley and her constituents have gone rapidly downhill. Earlier this year, she bailed out of a meeting with local farmers - claiming first that there were "security concerns," and then dismissing the venue as "inappropriate." A few weeks prior, dozens of farmers had held a protest outside her riding office, where they burned their Conservative membership cards, and then headed over to the headquarters of Liberal candidate Erik Hoskins to join his party instead.

As for Lietaer's former employer, the board sided firmly with the farmers:

Linda Vandendriessche, chair of the Ontario Flue-Cured Tobacco Growers' Marketing Board, said farmers have a right to be angry.

"Farmers are being forced into bankruptcy, and foreclosures have taken place already and ... we have suicides here. I am shocked there haven't been more because the depression level has been unbelievable," she said, sitting in the board's Tillsonburg office.

Production that topped 285 million pounds of tobacco in 1983 will fall to less than 20 million pounds this year. Of 1,559 quota holders in Ontario, only 600 (most of them in Norfolk County) are active, half what the figure was in 1991.

Vandendriessche said the banks have been holding off for the past two years, believing, as the farmers did, that there would be an aid package coming. "We were led to believe that there were dollars that were going to be coming," she said, talking about promises made by the Tories during the 2006 election campaign.

"But at the end of March (2008) we were told that there was no money left at this time to be able to put a program together," even though governments collected more than $9 billion in 2006 from taxes on tobacco.

Given that the embattled minister is married to senior Harper advisor Doug Finley, I'm not sure how welcome Lietaer would be in the inner sanctum at PMO; if Finley loses her seat in the next election - a distinct possibility - both she and her husband may find it hard not to blame him for his failure in handling the fury of the farmers.

Speaking of spouses, the current spokesperson for the tobacco board is one Linda Lietaer, which is either a remarkable coincidence, or another reason why Lietaer seems like a long shot as far as the top communications job, no matter how badly Guy Giorno wants to bring the whole Harris gang together again.

A few weeks ago, after announcing her impending retirement from politics, Alexa McDonough rose in Question Period and opened with this. "Mr. Speaker, I came to Parliament 11 years ago with some urgent priorities, the inferior status of women and fixing unemployment insurance among them. Perhaps it is because of the pathetic under-representation of women in the Conservative caucus, an unbelievable 11%, that the government refuses to fix employment insurance for women."

The government members, notably those of the female persuasion, were noticeably less than pleased.

Thing is, that 11% figure actually flatters the female presence in this government.

McDonough made her comments on June 3. Including all of the QPs this month—14 over three weeks, with one skipped on account of the residential schools apology—a total of 540 questions were asked. A mere 27 of those were handled by female members of this government. That's good for just 5% involvement.

Josee Verner accounted for 16 of those answers. Diane Finley, five. Sylvie Boucher, two. Lynne Yelich, two. Bev Oda and Diane Ablonczy, one each.

VPD ARREST WRONG MAN: A Mistake or a targeted attack on the media?

Independent cameraman Mike Barcellona hired by WeAreChange Vancouver incarcerated for 7 hours and charged for trespassing while filming from a sidewalk.

Mr. Colin Powell should not have been allowed into the country as Canada has strict laws that bar entry when there are reasonable ground to believe a person has either been involved in the commission of war crimes or crimes against humanity or been a senior member of a government that has engaged in gross human rights violations. Mr. Powell's complicity in Depleted Uranium use, extraordinary rendition, the use of torture and inhuman treatment, in-discriminant killing of civilians etc... makes him inadmissible into Canada. Once a person credibly accused of complicity in torture, such as Colin Powell enters the country, Canada must either prosecute of extradite to another country willing to prosecute.

Lawyers Against War had put Canadian Immigration Minister Diane Finley and the Prime Minister on notice of Canada’s duty to bar entry or to arrest and prosecute Colin Powell and received no response. Unfortunately it was left to concerned citizens to step up to promote adherence to the law.

WeAreChange members saw an advertisement to Powell's engagement in the Vancouver Sun claiming no questions were off limits.

Powell was in town to talk about Leadership in the 21st Century.

Three members of WeAreChange and a member of Vancouver 911 Truth purchased tickets and attended in order to ask Powell about Depleted Uranium use, which he is on the record for saying is safe.

Cancer rates and birth defects have skyrocketed in civilian populations with infants being born grotesquely deformed. Depleted Uranium is also killing American soldiers and being passed on to their offspring.

We were surprised to learn on arrival that the organizers were only going to “pick” a couple of pre-written questions. Talk about false advertising.

Powell referred to himself as a strong leader and talked about keeping the troops safe....which is ironic when considering DU is poisoning his own troops and he showed zero leadership when presenting the obviously false claims about the WMD's in Iraq to the U.N Security Council and the world. While Powell was speaking, you could hear the faint sound of bull horning from outside. We had multiple cameras filming outside and were able to sneak a camera into the event for safety purposes.

The question period consisted of " Who do you like better ? The Celtics or Lakers ? and " iphone or Blackberry” Absurd really.

Near the end of the question period, Dj Ball, James Flack and Rukshana stood up and asked Powell about DU use and American use of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Dj Ball and James Flack were quickly escorted out by VPD who were kind enough not to bring out the taser .

They said "You made your point ...time to leave"

Neither men resisted and followed the VPD request out of respect.. Although both members had tickets to the event and it was advertised that no question would be turned away, both were ejected.

No less than 30 seconds later a female member of Vancouver 911 stood up and went at Powell again on Depleted Uranium use.

She was grabbed by the arm and physically manhandled out the venue. This woman is 5 foot tall and teaches ballet.

Her arm is sore and she is suffering some discomfort.

As we left the building out onto the sidewalk we were shocked to see the videographer we hired to document the protest in handcuffs.

He came out to document the protestors on behalf of WeAreChange Vancouver and to submit the footage to a few independent media sites such as WeAreChange, InfoWars, PrisonPlanet, What Really Happened, 911 Blogger and TruthNews.

We were quite confused to see Mike in handcuffs. He is your quintessential "nice guy".
People had been bull horning Powell for an hour and a half without arrest yet the media was targeted.

Reviewing Mike's footage it's clear that Mike was singled out because he was filming the same police officer more than once.

There were a group of protestors and a lineup of VPD officers(behind the lone police sergeant) which Mike was filming.

Mike planned on documenting the group, as it was being ejecting from the sidewalk.

We politely asked the officer what he was being charged with and were told he would probably be released without charges.

Unfortunately for Michael this is not the case..... He now has a court date and is being charged with assault by trespass.

The only assault we witnessed might have been on the female member of our group who was manhandled while being ejected or on Mike's camera as Mike feels it was targeted Mike felt that the police inside the jail were very surprised that he was incarcerated on "trespassing" charges.

Another one of our members was followed home on his bike and stopped twice for not wearing a helmet.

Harassment?

Mike was taken to the VPD lock-up at 222 Main Street. We had a representative from Lawyers Against War call on our behalf and secure Mike's release 8 hours later.

War Crimes , Crimes against Humanity and Torture are crimes in Canada. Peacefully filming a public event—i.e. responsible citizens exercising their freedom of expression to protest violations of Canadian law--while on property to which the public is invited is not.

Why did the VPD arrest the cameraman instead of Colin Powell ?

On y apprend aussi que des fonctionnaires du ministère de l'Immigration ont déjà été la cible de tentatives d'intimidation par le crime organisé lorsqu'il s'agissait de règlements limitant l'accès au Canada de danseuses nues.

Qu'attend-on pour sévir et règlementer encore plus? Doit-on laisser le crime organisé abattre un ministre? Des journalistes ont déjà subi les représailles du crime organisé. C'est su et connu depuis longtemps que les demandes d'immigration pour les danseuses nues sont majoritairement contrôlées par le crime organisé. Le Canada perd la trace de plusieurs immigrantes qui finissent, cachées dans le monde de la prostitution sous le contrôle du crime organisé. Des filles à qui ont leurs enlèvent leur passeport, on les empêchent de demander de l'aide, des filles qui se retrouvent obligé de se prostituer.

Qu'attend-on pour agir? J'ai l'impression parfois que tout le monde est au courant et que personne ne fait rien. Qu'est-ce que je fais de mots tels que "Justice sociale"? Je les mets au poubelle parce que personne n'ose mettre ses culottes? Je les banis de mon vocabulaire parce que personne ne peut s'organiser à désorganiser le crime organisé?

Quel message envoyons-nous à nos jeunes? Est-ce une façon de leur dire qu'ils sont aussi bien d'adhérer à un gang de rue et envisager le proxénétisme comme une bonne source de revenu? Dans les années 1970, nous avons laissé des motards se regrouper, s'organiser et devenir des institutions. La criminalité est le reflet de notre laxisme social.

Il reste encore un peu d'espoir qui m'habite. Que justice et équité puissent trouver leur place dans notre pays. Mais quand je vois le Canada avoir de la difficulté à prendre sa place et mettre les choses en ordre, comment puis-je espérer que, mondialement, les pays du tiers-monde accèdent eux aussi à cette justice tant espéré?

The amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act have been packaged as part of the recent federal budget. Among the amendments are ones designed to allow the immigration ministry to speed up specific applications. Opposition parties have argued the amendments would give the immigration minister unprecedented powers over who can and cannot enter Canada.

 Like them or hate them, the move by the Conservatives to include these proposed changes within the budget is a shrewd tactical move. Opposition members want to debate the changes separately from the budget but cannot. If they want to shoot them down, they have to shoot the budget. They shoot down the budget, it is a non-confidence vote which can trigger an election no one is ready for.

The Conservatives must be Sopranos fans since this Trojan Horse move was stolen from Tony Soprano's "How to Strongarm 101" playbook.

The government claims the inclusion of the changes within the budget will ensure quicker action and enactment of them. Critics argue that if the changes are so great, they should be able to stand on their own in the House of Commons, under scrutiny of debate and will pass quickly regardless.

Immigration minister Diane Finley has stated in various reports that the changes are necessary in order to tackle the significant number of applicants waiting to get into Canada The backlog of applicants now sits at 900,000.

The amendments also provide the government “greater flexibility in selecting which applications are processed, according to labour market needs”, according to the ministry.

Where any debate on the Commons floor will take the proposed changes will be interesting to see. One thing is for certain, the Conservatives are playing for keeps and daring the opposition, especially the Liberals, to trigger an election in which Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his gang would likely prevail again.

For the past year the OPP & various politicians have tried to make it sound as if only Caledonia is affected by violent Native Protesters. However, over the past 2 months we have seen that these issues affect all of us.

Your Land Deed is Worthless in Ontario:

The fact is that in Ontario your deed that states you own your land and home is worthless as a direct result of the failures of the McGuinty Government and the lack of policing by the OPP. In the latest Legal Magazine titled ‘Law Times' they ran an editorial questioning who is ‘ Protecting Private Property'. [Link] The Ontario Home Builder's Association ran a story a few months ago titled "HELD HOSTAGE" [Link] in which they stated that builders had done everything right to get clear title to land before developing but in the end it was worthless.

Nation wide Protests:

The National Day of Action that was set for June 29^th demonstrated that all of Canada is faced with the issue of a Few Natives who choose to use illegal activities to force Governments into political action - the very definition of Terrorism as stated in the Canadian Anti-Terrorism Act. [Link]

We saw a YouTube training video to sabotage CN rail in support of Native Land Claims. We saw Shawn Brant from Deseronto deliver a speech in Toronto that demonstrated that he has been working for 10 years encouraging Natives to pick up guns and to attack the infrastructure across Canada - a clear terrorist threat. We saw National Native Leaders both support the use of illegal activities on June 29^th but also make racist statements against Canadians. These Native Leaders only changed their tone after the Federal & Provincial Governments both suddenly came up with $2.5 billion each ($5 billion total). Mike Duffy asked whether such deals was paying ‘Blackmail'.

We have demonstrated what Peaceful Protest is:

We have had several Town Hall Meetings throughout Ontario and several Marches/Rallies in Caledonia. In each case there have been no crimes committed and we have continuously told people that we want no racial slurs, no swearing, no violence and no criminal behavior.

Our web site is a perfect example of peaceful protest in a democratic society. We protest against Two Tier Justice and against the spineless leadership of politicians.

We have NEVER been charged with any crime. We have NEVER been asked by any police force to remove anything from our site.

I wish we could get Government funding to carry on our Peaceful Protest but we cannot. The Government spends millions each year funding Native Land Claim offices, Native Land Claim Lawyers, Negotiation teams and the Six Nation Band Council spent $66,000+ to help in the violent take over of DCE in Caledonia.

It has become clear to many media that in Canada people no longer have property rights as soon as any Native group claims your property is theirs. There is no police force, no Government politician who will come to your aid - appeasement and paying Blackmail money is the approach of both the Harper & McGuinty Governments.

We need to keep the battle for Truth and Justice going:

Canada is faced with a choice to make. Will we be ruled by laws based on Equality or will we be ruled by threats of violence and intimidation.

This is not a fund to run in any election, but a fund to make sure we are able to bring the topic of Law & Order and of Equality & Freedom to be election topics this fall.

We need to send a message to Dalton McGuinty (Lib.), John Tory (PC), and Howard Hampton (NDP) that the public will want to know how they will restore Equality and Freedoms in Ontario.

Web site Support:

There are now four people who are working full-time on maintaining the various web sites. Although the cost of the web sites themselves is very small, the time commitment to do the research and post each story is huge. In addition, the time to file complaints and to help the media to stay focused on the true story is very time consuming.

Not everyone can commit full-time to fight for Justice. In any Civil Rights movement all kinds of people are needed. Those who work need to provide for those who commit themselves to the struggle. In the end we all win when Equality and Freedoms are restored in Caledonia, in Ontario and throughout Canada.

Full year support for the 4 people working on the web site is estimated to be $50,000.

Please be advised - projects will not go ahead unless the Canadian Public provides the financial support for the cause. In the 21^st century, money is required to do some of these tasks.

There's an old saying, 'if you break it, you've bought it.' This rings true locally, as recent government policies have disrupted our economy on our area's sand plain and along the Grand River.

At a time of year when construction and farming should be booming, a shroud of uncertainty has been created. Last week, at a meeting of 40 Haldimand County builders, it was reported some area property values have dropped 20 per cent. To the west, sand plain tobacco farmers learned that no hope is in sight - with this year's crop 43 per cent smaller than last.

Combined with endless rules and regulations and red tape and forms to fill out, farmers and business people of all stripes are up against an increasingly hostile government. Regrettably, this compounds the trend - closed car dealerships, shuttered downtowns, and an out migration for work.

On May 29, in the Ontario Legislature, I listed a selection of the local jobs that have been lost under our current Ontario Government. In the Norfolk area, there are at least 284 manufacturing jobs down the drain while government focuses its priorities elsewhere.

In recent years, communities along the Grand River saw impressive growth - economically, and in population. Now, due to the threat of illegal land seizures, construction crews are a rare sight within six miles of the Grand. With no evidence of a government plan to deal with land seizures and occupations, construction crews - and their economic spin-offs - are largely looking elsewhere.

In addition to the failed approach to illegal land seizures, area residents continue to worry about Premier McGuinty's promise to throw 600 people out of work at OPG Nanticoke. I frequently hear people asking why government would take another 600 jobs, after watching economic development slide to a halt.

The federal government has tabled an offer to Six Nations, worth $125 million and I continue to work with my cabinet colleagues including Minister Prentice, Minister for Indian and Northern Affairs to find a solution that works for all sides including the people of Caledonia .

Canada’s New Government is taking action to address specific claims like those in Caledonia by introducing a comprehensive package of reforms that proposes to revolutionize the claims resolution process in four ways:

o The creation of a fully independent Claims Tribunal through which impartial judges will resolve those claims where negotiations have met with failure;

o Setting aside 250 million dollars on an annual basis for the next ten years to be used to settle these claims and ensure financial accountability;

o Transform the Indian Specific Claims Commission into a neutral dispute resolution body relieved of its role as the government’s arbiter of claims, the Commission will be able to focus its efforts solely on mediation; and

o Develop practical measures to clear the backlog of relatively small claims and to increase the flexibility in handling of larger claims.

Un article de la Presse Canadienne publié dans le Journal de Montréal le 24 avril mentionne que la ministre fédérale de l'Immigration, Diane Finley, a reçu des menaces depuis qu'elle a proposé d'empêcher les stripteaseuses étrangères de pratiquer leur métier au Canada.

On y apprend aussi que des fonctionnaires du ministère de l'Immigration ont déjà été la cible de tentatives d'intimidation par le crime organisé lorsqu'il s'agissait de règlements limitant l'accès au Canada de danseuses nues.

Qu'attend-on pour sévir et règlementer encore plus? Doit-on laisser le crime organisé abattre un ministre? Des journalistes ont déjà subi les représailles du crime organisé. C'est su et connu depuis longtemps que les demandes d'immigration pour les danseuses nues sont majoritairement contrôlées par le crime organisé. Le Canada perd la trace de plusieurs immigrantes qui finissent, cachées dans le monde de la prostitution sous le contrôle du crime organisé. Des filles à qui ont leurs enlèvent leur passeport, on les empêchent de demander de l'aide, des filles qui se retrouvent obligées de se prostituer.

Qu'attend-on pour agir? J'ai l'impression parfois que tout le monde est au courant et que personne ne fait rien. Qu'est-ce que je fais de mots tels que "Justice sociale"? Je les mets au poubelle parce que personne n'ose mettre ses culottes? Je les banis de mon vocabulaire parce que personne ne peut s'organiser à désorganiser le crime organisé?

Quel message envoyons-nous à nos jeunes? Est-ce une façon de leur dire qu'ils sont aussi bien d'adhérer à un gang de rue et envisager le proxénétisme comme une bonne source de revenu? Dans les années 1970, nous avons laissé des motards se regrouper, s'organiser et devenir des institutions. La criminalité est le reflet de notre laxisme social.

Il reste encore un peu d'espoir qui m'habite. Que justice et équité puissent trouver leur place dans notre pays. Mais quand je vois le Canada avoir de la difficulté à prendre sa place et mettre les choses en ordre, comment puis-je espérer que, mondialement, les pays du tiers-monde accèdent eux aussi à cette justice tant espéré?
