El otro día entré en una tienda de mi barrio y en la televisión que tenían encendida se veía a Bryan Adams y a Celine Dion, cantando a dúo la canción "Every thing I do, I do it for you".

Tickets on sale Mon. July 14 at noon. $35. Eight ticket limit.

Other items:

John Mayer has released “Where the Light Is- Live in Los Angeles.” This guy is growing on me. Great guitar player and nice vocals. He does a real cool version of Tom Petty’s “Free Falling.” Check it out. Supposedly Target is the place to buy it. You get both CD and DVD for $17.99.

My new favorite song of the week is from a Country Band called The Lost Trailers and the song is “Holler Back.” These guys have been around for a long time, they sound good- check them out.

My two favorite “old school” songs this week are “Mr. BoJangles” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band “On and On” by Stephen Bishop. The Nitty Gritty Band re-recorded this hit with Keith Urban and Dierks Bentley but I like the original better. Jerry Jeff Walker actually wrote the song but I like this version the best- it’s been covered by many artists, including John Denver and Bob Dylan.

LL Cool J has released a new single called “Baby” featuring The Game. Very disappointed in LL, this song is juvenile and a big step backwards at this point in his career. I don’t know if he’s trying to get “street cred” but the cursing and the lyrics are laughable.

Fans of Little Feat, myself included, will be glad to know that 14 of their greatest hits have been re-recorded by various artists which include Dave Matthews, Chris Robinson, Jimmy Buffet, Vince Gil, Brooks & Dunn and Bob Seger.

Caught some needling on why no review of Motley Crue’s new release “Saints of Los Angeles.” I’m almost there. I don’t want to piece-meal it from I-Tunes and then realize I want the whole CD. The first five songs sound awesome. I’m a huge Crue fan so I most likely will take the plunge. And I totally agree that the video for “Saints of Los Angeles” is real cool, this is the way a rock band is suppose to look and sound like. Excellent song and video.

I have now solidified my favorite track on “Evil Urges” by My Morning Jacket and the honor goes to the “Librarian.” This song is phenomenal. Again, I can’t say enough about this album but if there is one song to get- this is the one. On another note about this album- you had to see the faces of my boys when I played “Highly Suspicious” for them. Talk about priceless. They hated it.

And not for nothing I am real close to getting “Real Animal” by Alejandro Escovedo that was just released this past Tuesday. Last week I mentioned his new single “Always a Friend” and as I listen to the 30-second previews on I-Tunes- it sounds like a smash hit!!

This week’s I-Tunes shuffle landed on “You May Be Right” by Billy Joel, so of course I had to go back and listen to my one and only album by Mr. Joel- “Glass Houses.” This was his seventh studio effort, which was released back in 1980. I know this album alienated fans from his first six albums but you know what? - it dragged me in. Now for myself back in 1980, it was not cool to own a Billy Joel album, so the people who knew me back then- probably never knew that I bought this. (I had a metal image to uphold). Now I recognize Mr. Joel’s space in American music history and he can’t be denied, but I was never a real “big” fan. I like a lot of his stuff but again this is the only album that I have ever purchased from his extensive library. And yes I have seen him live and have to admit I liked the show. He has earned his place in music history.

Now for me, the opening breaking glass sound on “You May Be Right” symbolized that he was shattering his image of just being a piano man and was ready to rock and roll. Say what you will about this song but when it’s cranked up loud (as I have it now) this is a fun rock and roll song. “Sometimes A Fantasy” is a cool song and I love the hook. With a good set of headphones, the background vocals come through great. I love the drum parts to “only you can give me satisfaction.” Again play this loud. “Don’t Ask Me Why”- well don’t ask me why but I love this song- I know its soft but there is a soft side to me. “Don’t wait for answers, just take your chances.” Sort of reminds me of something Paul McCartney would sing. OK now I know you have heard “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me” over a thousand times, especially in the summer of 1980 but you know what? It’s a great song.

Tell me you don’t like “All for Leyna?” Oh man I wore this album out and this is my second favorite track. I love the piano work and the bridge of the song that takes it into “I’m failing in school, losing my friends…” is something that I can listen to over and over. If you have the album- side 2: track # 1: “I Don’t Want To Be Alone” is not only my favorite song on this album, this could very well rank up there in my top 20 songs of all time. Can you say “desert island” song? I have always wanted to perform this song a la karaoke style. How cool is this song? “She said she meet me in a bar at the Plaza Hotel, wear a jacket and a tie-eee-eye..” It has a funky stop and go beat that flows real well and Billy’s vocals are spot on. Perfect bar song. Then for all sports fans, “Sleeping With the Television On” starts with the National Anthem and then back in the old days the TV would turn off and you’d hear just a steady noise. “Your Eyes are Saying Talk to Me… This isn’t for me to say Dianne… All Night Long..” I believe this is one of his all time classic songs, I know a lot of folks out there probably think I’m sleeping with the television on right now. And how cool and rocking is “Close to the Borderline” – I love it- crank it up. How many songs by Billy Joel can you say “Crank it Up?” I love the guitar throughout. “A buck three eighty won’t buy you much these days… I don’t change channels, so they must change me..” How many Billy Joel songs can you “air guitar” to? Come on, this is probably the only one. The album closes with “Through The Long Night,” a great slow song and Joel’s vocals are top notch. It’s a sing along song for the whole family- take it on your next trip together.

Glass Houses spawned two number 1 hits for Mr. Joel: “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” and “Don’t Ask Me Why.” “You May Be Right” peaked at # 7. Now there is not one bad tune on this album and it classifies as a “desert island” disc. It’s short and compact- like many albums were back in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s. At the time I bought it, I knew it was a classic but again wasn’t too vocal about it. But now I will tell all of you- run out and get this album now!!! And he also won a Grammy for this album “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance”- would I steer you wrong?

Remember the VH1 Honors show this year is on Thurs. July 17 at 9:00 p.m. and the only band being honored is The Who. Should be a great show.

Back on this day in 1971, Jim Morrison died of a heart attack in France at the young age of 27.

Today would have been Laura Branigan’s 51st birthday, she passed away in Aug. 2004. She was born in Brewster NY.

Back on this day in 1988, Cheap Trick had its only #1 song with “The Flame.”

Celine Dion is responsible for the world's worst cover version - a rendition of rockers AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long - a Total Guitar magazine poll says.

The French-Canadian chanteuse has never released the song as a single but performed what the magazine called the "offence" against music at a Las Vegas concert six years ago in a duet with Anastacia.

"The number one worst cover song - Celine Dion covering AC/DC - is sacrilege," said the magazine's editor, Stephen Lawson. "The best covers are unlikely choices and they do something radical."

Clips of Dion and Anastacia rocking are available on the Internet video-sharing website YouTube. One of the comments that doesn't use strong language read: "My poor ears." (news)

Congratulations to Celine Dion on topping a poll to decide the worst cover version of all time. Appa

Congratulations to Celine Dion on topping a poll to decide the worst cover version of all time. Apparently, her live version of AC/DC's magnificent octopus 'All Night Long' was the most execrable piece of abuse against another person's work. To be honest, the 'what the fuck was she thinking?' question looms large. AC/DC are not a band who lend themselves to being covered. I don't see how you would really improve the original, no matter how radically you assaulted the song. But yet, something troubled me about it. I think it was because, to be fair to Ms. Dion, she didn't commit the song to immortailty with a recorded version. Surely the worst cover is a stinker which never really goes away?

There have been some supremely awful things committed in the name of tribute. Indie bands doing 'ironic' tributes hav been in vohue recently. It started with Travis and their 'hilarious' cover of 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' by Britney Spears, a song which frankly has more spirit and verve than anything the lettuce-like Glaswegian rockers have ever produced. Now they are all bursting into the Live Lounge on Jo Whiley's show, racing through Girls Aloud covers and issuing knowing winks to the audience. 'Like, hey, we know this isn't cool, but that's what, like, makes it so cool, yeah?' No. Fuck off and die. You are lumpen indie vermin not fit to lace Girls Aloud's g-strings. And I don't particularly like Girls Aloud, but they are still better than the Kooks or the Hoosiers.

If you are going to do a cover, pick an obscure song. Take a classic and fuck it up good and proper. And then get it out there for history to judge. You will never be worse than Nickelback covering the Beatles. You will never be worse than U2 doing Lou Reed. Do it. But avoid AC/DC.You will only fuck it up.

On Thursday, Liberal leader Dion released the controversial Carbon Tax Plan to the House of Commons

On Thursday, Liberal leader Dion released the controversial Carbon Tax Plan to the House of Commons and Canadians. As environmental risk becomes greatly prevalent in our news and in our daily lives, this shift in 'green thinking' has led to great speculation how Dion's plan will be perceived by Canadian voters. The single best thing anyone can do is be educated about the issue, especially one which will directly affect every single Canadian.

Check these links and allow the time to think about both sides of the issue. Eventually everyone will have to choose what is more important, the planet we live on or cheaper gas and added convenience. This Carbon Tax may not be the ideal solution for Canada, or anywhere for that matter, but attack ad's and bad mouthing isn't a solution for government either. Canadians have always had an incredible ability to keep cool under the harshest of circumstances. Hopefully our elected representatives will eventually represent that.

Stéphane Dion’s plan to fight climate change by rebalancing the tax system will include $15.5

Stéphane Dion's plan to fight climate change by rebalancing the tax system will include $15.5-billion in income-tax cuts, $11-billion of which will go toward personal tax reductions, The Globe and Mail has learned.

Sources also said that the plan - phased in over four years - would provide more significant tax relief for lowest-income Canadians, as well as a cut for businesses, both large and small.

The reductions are intended to balance off tax levies that would be imposed on use of carbon-based fuels, such as home-heating oil. The plan will not, however, apply increased federal taxes on the purchase of gasoline.

The Liberal Leader will unveil the plan later today. (news)

She grabbed him by the ears and dragged him to the door, pushed him outside, threw his clothes out there and shut him out. Fuck it – not this crap again. What in the hell was wrong with her? She was better than this; worth more than these arseholes who just wanted to score with anything that had a hole between its legs.

She took out a cigarette, tapped it a couple of times, popped it in her mouth and lit up. She swore to herself that the next guy she woke up with was going to get pickaxed in the skull. Was it their fault and was that fair? No, not really, but it would release some of the tension that she was building up. She was kidding of course. This was the most she had ever done to one of them. She had wanted to do more but thankfully she had more self-restraint than that. Thing was it wasn't them that she hated – it was herself. She had no expectations of them at all; but herself? She thought she should be capable of more.

Wasn't it always that way? That when you got angry with someone else that half of it was something you saw in them that echoed a problem you had with yourself? She had talked to her friends about her problem but he didn't think that any of them truly understood the scope of the problem; either that or thy didn't see it as a problem because they were doing the same thing and they were ok with it. Part of her thought that she should use the whole thing as a way to weed out the bad influences in her life. She needed to change something – how could she change herself if the world that she moved through was always the same?

She wanted to find somewhere that would satisfy her cravings to be social yet not sexual. She wanted to escape.

I stumbled upon watching the ads up on youtube recently about the conservatives attack ads on Stephane Dion's proposed carbon tax. The proposed carbon tax (and it will be pernament) would mean higher prices for you and I in addition of the already high prices of gas that we all have to face.

These ads are played all across the country and played in both English and French. It will be played on TV, on the radio, some commuter trains and most importantly, certain gas stations.

These ads are causing a bit of a controversy. Stephane Dion wants to have an election sooner, rather than later.

Here's the official site if you guys want to see more in depth: http://willyoubetricked.ca/

I wonder if phreak615 has his say about the carbon tax...hmmm.....

Dion rejects Liberal pleas to trigger election

Ranking members of the Liberal caucus this week repeatedly pushed Stéphane Dion to trigger a federal election campaign next week, but the Liberal Leader rebuffed their pleas, sources say...

With the scandal over former foreign affairs minister Maxime Bernier setting the Conservatives on the defensive and concerns about an economic downturn, a heavyweight group of the party's most influential MPs argued in internal meetings this week that the Liberals have a window of opportunity for an election.

They included foreign affairs critic Bob Rae, Deputy Leader Michael Ignatieff, House Leader Ralph Goodale, Whip Karen Redman, finance critic John McCallum, and justice critic Dominic LeBlanc, according to multiple Liberal sources.

Question: Why this sudden enthusiasm for a summer election? (Couillard? Yeah, right.) And why are we hearing about this, with virtually every single major player in caucus mentioned, by name? This has the whiff of mutiny to it...

"We can talk about what the best model for putting a price on carbon across Canada might be - but the fact is we need to just do it." Stéphane Dion

Looking for a solution to environmental impact starting at myself and expanding in concentric circles, I realize I can do something at home, and I have already begun reducing my impact. Problem being doing this is not cheap. If the plan was to reduce our carbon tax at home there are few steps I can take. First I heat my home with natural gas. Should I replace the furnace, insulate, and replace the windows? Sure, but they all have costs associated with them. Even before the idea of carbon taxes, homeowners knew that sealing up their homes would save them money. Government programs have existed for years to encourage this but the costs of the renovations take a long time to pay back with monthly energy savings, money that lower income households are unable to put up front. The same situation holds true for cars, lower income families often drive older, less efficient cars even if they cost more in the long run. The outlay of a down payment and monthly car payments can be prohibitive from taking advantage of reducing their costs as well as carbon footprint by buying newer fuel-efficient models.

Not even examining the proposed neutrality of this tax I can see another problem. With rising oil costs, every bump in crude converts to an unrealistic mountain at the pumps. Many believe this to be price gouging. Would this not give them the ultimate scapegoat for an increase in profit?

I do believe our country needs a strong environmental policy, but we need to first look at where those emissions are coming from and where we can expect the greatest returns.

The Game lui sert d’exemple : « I’ve got the flow like ‘Pac/ I’ve got the weight like Biggie/ I’ve got the muscles like I fuck with 50/ I’ve got the rock, just like I was with Hov’/ I’ve got the quarter, but I’m not Weezy/ I’ve got the snow, but I’m not Jeezy/ I’ve got the birds flying but I’m not in the Byrdgang.
