I am very, very, VERY excited about the prospect of Casey Anthony being indicted for murder. Only one thing could be better and thats if the skanky freak-of-nature cracks on the stand and implicates her entire family in the cover up, Oh what a joyous day that would be...I'm also very curious about why Lee would not give up his DNA, or take a lie detector test.He also uses the word "absolutely" a lot. What is is with those two and multi-syllable filler words? Is there a connection?

The secret is out.

The book club my wife belongs to is a sham. It is nothing but a front for anywhere from three to twelve women to hang out in a bar and drink pints of girly beer for three hours. Sure, she buys the book or picks it up from the library. She'll even read some of it to make sure her cover isn't blown.

I am on to her though, let that be known.

...girls in the universe, but finally i saw the Sex and the City movie. It's cute, but it makes you really really want to get married and live happily ever after... and want to shop.

It also made me appreciate my friends... we are SO different, but all together, we are awesome. and it made me miss erica a lot... i mean, i know we have other close friends now but... she was our samantha, our wacky one.

anyways... so cloudy outside, :( but at least i got to sleep in this morning! it does look like it's clearing up a little. Fall for Greenville tonight, I'm supposed to go with Chad. Mandy is going to some HS football game for her friend... somewhere in Greenville. Maybe she'll want to come downtown first and get some food with us.

I wish these fall like temperatures would stay! And I think I found my cookie recipe for the cookie swap we're supposed to have sometime in December before we leave... well, I'd hedge bets that Carmen's leaving first, haha.

Ahh! Just nailed down a few details with Kit! So EXCITED! And I want to make this for the swap party:

Chilled Christmas punch: allrecipes.com - http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chilled-Christmas-Punch/Detail.aspx
2 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 (46 fluid ounce) can pineapple juice, chilled
4 cups cranberry-apple juice, chilled
1 liter ginger ale, chilled

DIRECTIONS
In a saucepan, bring the water, sugar and cinnamon to a boil; stir until sugar is dissolved. Chill. Just before serving, combine the syrup mixture, juices and ginger ale in a punch bowl or large pitcher. Serve over ice.

Okay. I am uberexcited. Ready for the season!

Posted by Jane

Posted by Jane

So now that my political rant is complete, I can move on to less important issues, such as, well, loooove, and life and all the crazy parallels that go along with it.

So I've just begun a new position at a very prominent TV station in London which is very trendy and posh posh, but I digress. A couple people in my office were heading down to the monthly British Film Institute pub quiz and invited me along. But just as fate would twist, I had drinks the very same evening with some of my old classmates at Gordon's Wine Bar, the oldest wine cellar in London.

As I didn't want to pass either opportunity up, I decided to pull a Mrs.Doubtfire and play 2 roles in the same night .(without as much switching thankfully, which would have included a mighty expensive, and most probably incompetent taxi driver enslaved to me the entire night)

So I made a decision to commit to both, walked down to the wine bar after work and, to my utter surprise, Mr. Grey decided to show his sodding face. I found this out by walking up to my old mates and seeing him in the corner of the table, saying, "hello there." Ugh.

Bastard.

So I decided to make the most of it, and chat everyone up. Three other classmates showed and 2 of them bought bottles of red vino which I promptly drank and got tipsy. Mr. Grey, true to form, had no alcohol but chatted me up the entire evening, buying me a packet of crisps and asking me how long I was planning on staying in London. And, true to form, I let him...Bad, bad Jane.

Luckily I had my other event to head off to, so I promptly said goodbye and walked across the Embankment bridge towards the BFI IMAX theatre where the quiz was being held. I couldn't help but stop and gasp at the beauty I witnessed on the way there. I had had a couple glasses of wine, it was a brisk clear evening, and I was standing in the midst of every landmark in London, as well as a bright half moon. This truly is one of the most captivating sights on earth and then I realized how ironic it was that I was actually, literally crossing a bridge, leaving my past behind and going towards my new life.

So my work colleagues and I ended up having more alcohol, which I promptly got drunk from, but everyone was so lovely and we had a mini bonding session. Then we came in 4th place, which was impressive since there were quite a few groups there and the questions were uber hard. I even phoned up a sleepy Tilia to ask her about the Charlie Chaplin round!

But yes, I have definitely crossed over into the future, and hopefully, will be able to put the frustrating Mr. Grey saga behind me. Though he does happen to work literally right next door to me...

To be continued.

Isso me assusta.

Ok, divaguei. Seguimos agora com nossa programação normal...

21:25pm - Have been here for about half an hour. The young blonde at reception seemed pissed off with me for disrupting her flirtage with emo kitchen boy. Despite the room being paid for, had to debit fifty squids onto my card. Possibly will get refunded in the morning.

21:28pm - Still writing this post. Didn't bother arguing with blonde receptionist. Just wanted to go straight up to my room. Why was she still asking me questions? Can't she just fuck off?

21:29pm - Listening to Queen 'Don't Stop Me Now' though I'm not having a good time.

21:30pm - My hotel room was tiny and had no mini bar! Rubbish. Shower looked good.

21:35pm - Had to move from my spot in the bar as a huge wedding party stormed in. Started chatting to a friendly Irish lady. Got mistaken for part of the family. I'm beginning to fear that I may end up staying here forever.

21:36pm - Lost wireless connection, having to connect via my 3 Skypephone. Missed call from the missus. Listening to Eason Drive by Apologies I Have None. Vodka, lemonade and lime: greatest drink in the world. Thanks Jim.

21:39pm - Feeling very uncomfortable. Surrounded by wedding guests. Listening to Dire Straits, Money to Nothing on an eardrum-bursting volume. My only hope is that it's so loud I'm annoying people.

21:42pm - My TV didn't work either. They had one of the guide books in the hotel room. Proper fancy little thing - the typically dull sort with a deep maroon cover. Flipped through to the back pages. It listed the TV channels. 1: BBC One, 2: BBC Two, 3: ITV, 4: Channel Four, 5: Channel Five. What a waste of paper. After speaking to the missus, I ventured downstairs for a drink and to waste some time on the net. (see 21:25pm for details)

21:46pm - Drink was very expensive. Crisps were rubbish.

21:47pm - Listening to Gaslight Anthem, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. Almost finished my drink.

21:48pm - Finished my drink. I'm going back up to my room.

22:01pm - Instead opted to get another drink. Moved to a far more comfortable position away from the infectious joviality of the wedding crowd. The only thing I want to get infected by while away for a night in a hotel is an STD. Wireless is back up.

22:04pm - Everyone here is way too old. What's happened to all the young people? You don't as many as you used to. Are they all sat inside writing their blogs and updating their Facebook statuses?

22:06pm - Wireless failed again. Connection here goes down more often than your mum. pWnd.

22:10pm - Watching Kevin Costner movie on the TV in the corner. I think he's just beaten up a kid. Watching Kevin Costner movies without the sound on is a fun game. You have to work out from the context of his surroundings what emotion he's currently failing to project. I think he's trying to seduce the kid. The kid's pointing a gun at him. I think Kevin Costner's pensive.

21:13pm - Jesus. Some guy's explaining the movie to another guy. He's asking if it's a thriller or a black comedy. Apparently it's much better than having this all the time. He pointed at a woman wearing a stupid hat in a wheelchair when he said that. I have no idea what the fuck is going on.

22:16pm - Holy shit. The guy just started agressing the woman in the wheelchair. This place is getting nasty, definitely going back up to my room before everything kicks off. Good night.

continuing my investigation into strange things canadians like to put in their mouths, while also knocking me off my haughty if-it's-so-good-why-haven't-i-heard-of-it? pedestal, i turn my attention to the national cocktail of canada:

bloody caesar, originally uploaded by suddenly.

"the bloody caesar"

when i told the S.O. about my love for bloody marys, he said he preferred bloody caesars. my first thought was, "is that a bloody mary with caesar salad dressing?" but, no. it's a bloody mary with clamato instead of tomato juice.

for the uninitiated, clamato is a "tomato clam cocktail." according to the label, the ingredients are: water, tomato paste, glucose, fructose, msg, salt, citric acid, spices, celery seed, dried clam broth, vinegar, color

(the word, clamato-- a clever amalgam of clam and tomato-- rhymes with the british pronunciation of tomato.)

ingredients for a bloody caesar

my second thought was, "clamato? ew. who the hell drinks clamato??

actually, i knew the answer to that question because my parents stocked clamato when they had their grocery store in brooklyn. only one customer every bought it and he was an older, sketchy sort of feller with stark white hair. so in my child's mind, only weird people drink clammy tomato juice.

but apparently, a whole lotta canucks drink clamato (and muchos latinos too! read the fascinating article, clamato is a curiosity). a canadian bartender invented the bloody caesar in 1969 for the opening of a new restaurant. he used tomato juice and mashed clams. (i'm betting he didn't serve that drink with a straw.)

the bloody caesar caught on in canada and i've seen it served in every bar i've been to in montreal and toronto.

well, finally, the S.O. made me a classic bloody caesar and my verdict is: IT'S DELICIOUS! now, granted, i love bloody marys AND seafood, so i'm not really jumping over a wide chasm to embrace the bloody caesar. clamato has a thinner consistency than tomato juice or V8 which makes it more appealing in a beverage. plus it's got the added umami boost from the dried clam broth and msg. and i guess that's the bottom line; a bloody caesar is doctored with so many other competing flavors that i didn't really pick up on the clamminess.

so along with poutine and ketchup chips, i can add one more item to my list of "canadian things that seem gross but are actually tasty."

here's how to make a bloody caesar:

rim a tall glass with a lemon wedge and then salt and pepper (or celery salt)

add ice to the glass

add a shot (or two!) of vodka, clamato, a couple of dashes of tabasco and a few dashes worcestershire sauce, and a squeeze of lemon

stir and garnish with a celery stalk and a lemon wedge

say, "hasta la vista" to clam prejudices

A new season——a new fresh taste——or at least with this seasonal selection. I’ve never been all that big on drink this in the fall (dark heavy bodied) and drink this in the summer (light body). I’m more of a drink whatever is tasty whenever I can get my hands on it. All that being said I do get a tingle,a thrill, to see the Pumpkin Ales rolling in*. Why you ask? Because it signals that fall——a beautiful season——is making its way toward us. As I perused the beer selection at Zagara’s I was happy to see them. Fall! I’ve tried Ichabod, (very nice) and I’ve had Post Road (pretty subpar). I ventured at the suggestion of our beverage man over to the just in Jack’s Pumpkin Spice Ale. Jack’s is surprise surprise, a product of Anheuser-Busch.

As we were having a party that night, my first interaction with Jack’s was a crisp ice cold bottle-and eventually two more. It was tasty and festive enough that I had half of the $6.99 six-pack. That is quite a nice price for a beer that can hold its own with the more expensive selections. So my first impressions were slightly ––vaguely--influenced by the circumstances.

The dark brown bottle doesn’t give much of a hint of the deep copper color of the beer it contains. I’m only enjoying the beer in a glass, now as I write this, the next day. The interesting (and my favorite aspect) of the taste were the spices. The spices (which include Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, and Clove) really linger. You can taste the Pumpkin with almost every sip. As almost an afterthought, there was a distinct malty finish that hits your taste buds. Overall there is a nice sweetness through and through, though not overwhelming.

The head did leave a bit to be desired. It has a thick, creamy caramel color——an almost orange glow——but it dissipated almost before I sat back down. Overall the head packed a frothy, foamy punch but not much retention at all.Aroma: There are a pleasing array of spices evident in the aroma. It is reminiscent of a baking pumpkin pie or at least of sniffing a bottle of pumpkin pie spice.

Mouthfeel: A watery, light bodied feel. It has a tinge of creaminess to it. One problem is the lightness of it in your mouth seems to let down the big aromas and flavors. It may be considered well balanced because the sweetness isn’t overwhelming.

Drinkability: This is a very refreshing and drinkable "seasonal". From the standpoint of being an AB offering it is surprisingly good. It would be a great addition to any crisp fall afternoon.

* I know this comes a little late in the season but my computer was dead—this has been sitting in my moleskin for about a month or so.

Ahhh... yesterday was awesome...
It was my off day so I woke up like a princess at 12 (well not exactly a princess... a really lazy person instead.. princesses dont seem lazy.. I guess they are just pampered but wouldn't a pampered person be lazy?? back to square one eh? anyhoo... ). Went to Bubble's office which is considerably close by and had lunch with her and a couple of other people.. met her colleagues.. nice bunch of people.. and amongst them was this guy "Chandan" who reads my blog but we had never met.. It was interesting talking to someone knowing that, that person knows intricate details about ur personal life but u know nothing about his... kind of eerie.. but interesting nevertheless...
And from there i went hunting for a pet shop... yeah I gave bubble a fish bowl with 2 pairs of fishes... we sorta did a naming ceremony as well.. they are called-- Shadow, Glow, Angel and Nemo (after the movie obviously)... so I had to rush to her place with the fishes and set up the bowl there while Bubble was still in office.. then I had to rush out again go to my place, pick up some clothes, change, buy a b'day cake (for her room mate), meet Bubble and together go to her place... Mind you, she was ecstatic wen she saw the fishes.. Man did I feel nice...

Buntu joined too and we surprised her roomie... Bubble had got a vodka bottle and some cans of beer... So the cake was cut and we had pizzas and drinks for dinner... I had 3 small cans of beer and some vodka and man by 10 I was completely wasted... Dropped my phone while I was on the drunk spree and now it just wouldnt start up.. The repair guy says the display is broken and I'd have to shell out quite a sum for it... Price I would have to pay for getting drunk it seems.. :(

I dont even freaking remember what all shit I did.. I mean yeah other friends joined us at 12 for another cake cutting thingy and they got a bean bag for her.. really sweet... but I dont remember even tasting the cake or the fact that I changed and pretty much everything that happened after 10...

What I do remember is that I kept desperately trying to make my phone work.. putting my sim in someone else's phone and changing batteries and stuff.. but to no avail.. Anyways now all my data would be lost.. the one in the phone memory atleast.. all the phone numbers.. *scary shudder* :( And I GUESS I'l get my phone by Sunday only.. *annuder scary shudder*

Achha enough of rantings.. I need to go work now...

Cuppers are the professionals who taste the coffee when deciding which ones the businesses should b

Cuppers are the professionals who taste the coffee when deciding which ones the businesses should buy. They also get to judge contests and write reviews among other things. It's not just professional cuppers which can get paid for sitting in front of such a beautiful drink!

A professional cupper will check the coffee by smelling and tasting the fresh brew. You can recreate this at home by setting up a few different coffees to taste. As long as you know how to make espresso, you'll be fine.

You should keep a supply of fresh water, even the best coffee wont taste very good if it's made with old water which has been left out for a long time. Even water can become stale over time and taste not so nice. This will affect your brew. You should try to avoid any distilled water as these often contain too high salt levels to be used for coffee.

So you can set yourself up it's a good idea to get a small tray which can hold around 12 bowls. You should also include some measure scoops, spoons and anything else you might need. You must also put the coffee on.

Use a burr grinder to grind the beans and boil the water. Experiment with a number of different settings depending on how many different coffees you want to taste. Grinding the beans differently can dramatically change the taste of the coffee.

You should make the coffee by steeping the samples in hot water for a couple of minutes. Then filter the coffee and put a small amount into the sampling owl. Try smelling the aroma first, and then taste it by allowing it to flow over the whole tongue. Don't swallow it spit it out after a couple of seconds.

Just think about what the coffee is like, what does it taste like? What does it smell like? Different coffees can produce very different results.

Try sampling different coffees from different countries from all around the world. Colombian and Kenyan coffees are completely different and it's marvelous to notice the difference!

You should try different roasts of beans as well, see which you prefer. Try light roast, medium roast to very dark roast. Changing the roast of the bean can make a lot of difference in the final cup.

You will normally want to add two tablespoons of ground coffee to 180ml of water, but you can adjust this to find out what works the best in your case. The water should be around 93C but you can also vary this to see what works best.

There are some things that you will want to avoid or enhance depending on your preferences, these can be:

-	Acidity - Tartness of the coffee. This is very noticeable in Mexican coffees. The roast will vary the acidity of the beans the most.

-	Aroma - the smell of the beans is quite important. Kona beans have a very fruity aroma.

-	Bitterness - Robusta beans are normally bitterer than Arabica beans. Swill the beans around your mouth so that you can look out for bitterness.

-	Nuttiness - not everyone likes nutty coffee, this usually shows that the beans are poor quality.

Focusing on the area of expresso maker, the writer is writing essentially for http://www.coffee-espresso-maker-tips.com
- Sharing his passion in publications like http://www.coffee-espresso-maker-tips.com/espresso-maker.html, the author demonstrated his capability on information corresponding to how to make espresso and espresso water pressure.

I know that October 8th may seem rather early to debut the Christmas calendar for 2008, but the fact of the matter is that some of the ticketed events are already selling seats - and it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to bring the calendar online after these have sold out. Surprisingly, however, one very big holiday event kicks off before the end of this month - namely, the Tacoma Holiday Food and Gift Festival, to be held at the Tacoma Dome October 22-26.

As with last year, there will be a strong emphasis this year on discovering and listing free and low-cost events throughout Whatcom County and greater Western Washington that the whole family can enjoy. This is in line with the general theme of this site: simplifying Christmas, and creating pleasant and memorable experiences in the place of pre-Christmas stress and a post-Christmas flat wallet.

Events with a price for admission will of course be listed, as well - there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the producers of an event asking that a production or festival be supported by the attendees (although I must confess that $184-$450 price tags on a family-of-four admission to a certain time-honored production this year strikes me as near-larceny).

From now until Halloween, I'll be very busy behind the scenes, here, gathering material for the site, and discovering even more events to populate the calendar (there's a whole lot out there). Before I close this post, though, I'd like to ask you to keep the following phrase in mind: Ornament is for joy. Christmastime is a season of ornament, and has the potential to be a time of real value, of real joy, rather than a time for superficial affectations of joy and a closing value that can be summed off of gift-receipts. But it's up to you. If you've turned the holiday season into a finance-straining, nerve-shattering experience...well, it's your own damned fault. About that, here's some good news: it doesn't have to be that way. You can make it better; you can make this very Christmas one to remember fondly. And I can help you with that.

See you on November 1st: All Saint's Day!

I LOVE Austin Tidbits parties. They're rare (quarterly?), obviously causing them to be more exciting than Tribeza parties, and they usually have fab gift bags and super-fashiony people, making them way more exciting.

Not that Tribeza parties don't have fashiony people--and I will say they draw a fair man-crowd, whereas Tidbits men are randoms off the street and boyfriends--but their happy hours seem to be hit or miss. Maiko a few months ago with free sushi? Hit. Random apartment opening? Miss. This Thursday? Boutique. 50/50, leaning toward miss because it's out in Westlake.

Here is what I have been doing for the past few hours: eating my weight in goat cheese, bread, and pizza; watching trashy TV shows like America's Next Top Model and Project Runway (totally digging Kenley again, by the way); drinking red wine with my girlfriends; and realizing as I do every day that DC is a pretty baller place to live. Randomly, I just ran into my friend Camille and her new gentleman friend on my street corner, which was wonderful and serendipitous, and in a mere three hours my favorite Asian in the world will be arriving on my doorstep like a gift from God. Basically, I'm pretty damn happy right now.

Here is what I have been doing for the past three weeks: ignoring the Hump Day Cry Face. See, I started to think that people didn't really care anymore. And maybe most of you are saying, "Um what is the Hump Day Cry Face and why should we care?" And that's fine. But two of you -- Kathleen and my dear friend Jed -- truly care about the good ol' CF, and I cannot just let it go. (It's like this voicemail message my family has had for over a decade: it's me singing a little ditty I made up all by myself when I was like twelve, and most of our friends are so over the message and want us to change it, but every so often someone will call and tell us that the voicemail made their day. So we kept it, because making someone's day every few months is totally worth it. Cry Face is worth it too.)

Ahem. Without further ado (or babbling), and in honor of Camille, Walsh, and Western Europe...
