They said I could have one phone call from jail, so this is it.

I’m Punched, you might say, by the many foul inequities of daily life on this ball of man-muddled excrement we’ve turned our beautiful planet into, hurtling through space towards the inevitablilty of it’s own destruction.

My favourite colour is black, my favourite number is 69, my favourite word is ‘cunt’. My favourite person is Polythene Pam, cause she’s all kinds of sexywickedcool. My favourite position is crucified, cause we should all be! I drink too much, I think too much, I worry too much, I swear far too fucking much, I love and hate far too much. . . I enjoy smoking ridiculously fat cigars and swearing a lot in a irreverant manner, especially in front of senior citizens who should have more sense than to hang around here chewing on the rest of the tribe's provisions when there isn’t enough to fucking go around, okay? I enjoy the ending of sentences with ‘. . .’ instead of a full-stop (that’s what limey English fucks like me call ‘periods’. It confuses silly ignorant people. ‘What, what is he saying? Is he finished his point, is there more to say, what???’ I believe in the cock and the pussy and that oral sex is a two-way street! I think democracy is a nifty theory - but that’s all it is! I also enjoy soft deep wet tongue kissing that lasts several days and girls who don’t mind that I cry a lot when confronted with beauty or the genuine pain, simulated or real, of others. Oh, and I like to drive really, really, really fast in a straight line, which is what landed me in trouble with the fuzz. Anything else? join me in the Treehouse, penthouse or jailhouse - under the duvet, and ask. . . I’ll be under there, smiling and waving, Naked. Wearing only a cockring. And that’s not a good idea, considering the 700lb manchild I’m sharing a lockup with. . .

Changing your duvet design, and adding matching pillows throws and window treatments is an easy and affordable way to change the look of a bedroom. I found lovely sets on thePottery Barn website. I love the Tatum and Matine Toile sets, but the colorfully illustrated Olivetta Owl set is my favorite.

Our original collection combines an Art Nouveau poppy-print duvet cover and sham with a Provençal-inspired sheet set that’s patterned with a modernized spade design. There are a few solutions to help avoid these critters.

Firstly you should replace your matress every couple of years as beg bugs have a tendancy to hide in cracks and come out at night. Next you should change your bed linen products every few months and wash them atleast once a week.

If you are still having problems, you may have to consider getting in an expert exterminator.

I was barely accostumed to alcohol consumption the first time I got drunk alone.

I pulled a sickie from school - convincing my old man I was ill.
It wasn't a premeditated move.
I knew I'd be lazing about, doing whatever, tipping ash from camel lights into the metal coca-cola tube which acted as an ashtray, but as soon as he left the house I realised I'd be raiding the drinks cabinet.

Friends would make 'dollies' back then - dolly mixtures - a bottle of whatever could be 'safely' siphoned from the parents' stash, and they'd combine a drop of this and a dribble of that into a heady rocket fuel to share out and about of a Summer's day, on a bus to town or in a teenage disco queue. Notoriously difficult to drink - even for adults well used to sipping spirits, they also make for dangerous drinking, for anyone.
With much the same fashion I'd hunch down reverently to the cabinet door, soundlessly ease it open, noting the exact positions of the bottles as I'd move them into a replica of their arrangement on the floor.

Gin was somehow the worst and best. It was my first taste. Perfume was all I could think. It was the fullest bottle. It was at the back. And I figured Dad didn't much touch it, so that begged a number of mouthfuls. I controlled the gag reflex well.
Then vodka. I knew how to drink vodka. The trick was to swallow, relax, and not breathe through the nose for a good minute after having swallowed.
Brandy was hot. Searing even, down the oesophagus and into my belly. It was tasty - full of body and a smooth, slow motion punch to the nose.
I was already getting there. One more hit of gin, half of vodka, and I replaced the bottles.

I lay on the bed and smoked while my head and face throbbed warmly as though laid out in the sun. I blinked slowly and happily. Like a well fed puppy. The music was alright, the room was alright, the taste in my mouth and nose was just fine and the smoke, wafting gently, freely, sitting mid my bedroom air, tasted the best ever.
Out of curiosity I wanted to jerk off while shitfaced as I was. I chose the bath and ran steaming water through the nozzle and on me.
I was too drunk, ended up slumped, stuck in the bath, face muscles fallen as much as my limp prick.
Unhitching, picking, pulling myself eventually out from the tub, I dried myself down, put just my trousers on and wearily staggered back to the bedroom. I crept under the covers from the foot of the bed and stretched out under them, submerged from the waste up by a suffocating, sleep inducing duvet.

I was roused by a male voice. It demanded to know what I was doing. I lifted the muffling cover and let in the light, there was the blurred image of my father in a suit - he'd come back on lunch to check if I was alright. I squinted. "Yeah, alright". But he thought I was sick, and what was I doing, messing like that? What was I playing at? I was asleep of course - that much, at least, was fairly fucking obvious I thought. Why would he deny it? I was groggy, not sick, but of course, I said I was still feeling sick. I continued to peer through bleary eyelids, furrowing brows incredulously at him - not quite awake enough and the kind of still drunk enough, to frown at the insolence of this man, coming back here to disrupt my buzz.
He left without another word. Front door slam.

I viewed the scene, the coke tube almost full of butts, the fag box and lighter side by side on the floor by the bed, blue air, the alcoholic breath on me. My own fuzzy bed-head.
I shrugged, lit a cigarette.

It was never spoken of.

Ever dream in a foreign language? Ever dream in yarn? Seriously. If yarn was a language, then I dreamt in it. No, not about it- IN IT.

I actually started designing a pattern while I slept. Yesterday I was going through my craft closet, looking for some remnants of black yarn to finish the sheep on my Sheep Yoke Cardigan, when I came across this bag with three skeins of green yarn and the back of a baby sweater. I had totally forgot about it and I don't even remember what pattern I was following for the sweater (it had to have been there for at least 3 years). So last night, I dreamt up a design for the yarn. It's a green sleep sacque, made bottom up, with an elastic at the feet end. I am going to sketch it up and then start working on writing up a proper pattern. Perhaps I will embroider a design on or add some cables...we'll see what I come up with.

So I am leaving to go back to school in less than a week and I am not allowed to start any new projects. I am the queen of starting projects and either not finishing them or taking months (and in some cases, years) to put on the finishing touches. I have more sweaters and dresses without buttons than I can count, and blankets by the dozen without all the ends woven in. And don't get me started on projects that I neglect to seam... Here's one that I made about 4 years ago and I am finally getting around to blocking and seaming it. I think it's made out of Rowan Cotton and the color is kind of a tomatoey-orange, which, with some pretty, old, metal buttons would make it look vintagey.

Anyways, the next few evenings are going to be spent finishing up some of my old projects, storing them, and packing. I am working on taking less with me (every year I take less and less) so I can make more room for my yarn because my mom won't ship that and I need to cut back on buying yarn and focus on using up my stash. I planned on cleaning out my craft closet and putting my stash on Ravelry, but I never got around to it...whoops!

The largest and most pressing project is to finish sewing my duvet. With the move to my apartment, I have a full bed instead of the dorm-room standard XL twin. So, all my bed linens and comforter are now useless. After searching and searching for a comforter or duvet that matched the colors of my stuff (purple, blue, and green), I came up empty handed. Most full/queen sized comforters, quilts, and duvets are of more muted hues, not the bright colors they have for college students. So, rather than buy all new stuff to match a new comforter, I decided to make a duvet cover for an extra full sized comforter we have at home. I'm using 2 packages of twin sheets: one striped, one kinda polka-dotted.

Once I figured out how to arrange and sew everything, it was pretty quick and easy. I'm going to write up the pattern and post it here later. Basically, I used a twin flat sheet from each set and then cut the elastic out of one of the fitted sheets and cut it to make almost another flat sheet. Then i sewed them all together and made an envelope kind of thing, but instead of closing it with buttons, I folded back a 10 inch section at the top opening of one side and sewed it, RS together, so once the comforter is inside, I just flip that section right side out and it seals over. It's hard to explain, but it's the same concept as those (non-ziploc) sandwich baggies. I found a picture of the sandwich baggies online and labeled it. Imagine that that strip with the red X is not there. The green line indicates where the opening to put the comforter in is. This will make more sense when I write up the pattern.

I haven't been working on my "mystery project" because I have been focusing on other projects. I'm probably going to end up packing it for Baltimore and I'll work on it the week before classes start and post more details and pictures.

I need to figure out EXACTLY what I can and cannot bring on the airplane in my carry-on for knitting in the airport and on the plane. It's a short flight from MA (about 75 minutes) but sitting around the airport and waiting for SuperShuttle takes forever, so knitting would help pass the time. Anyone know what I can and cannot bring? The TSA website says that both knitting and crocheting needles are permitted, but I thought I had heard of them not being allowed? Experiences with this anyone? I don't want to get there and them have them confiscate my knitting! If they did that, they may have a serious security situation to deal with...

[She Writes]
For practical reasons, my fiance and I have been thinking about moving our wedding dat

[She Writes]

For practical reasons, my fiance and I have been thinking about moving our wedding date. But we can't finalize anything yet until the end of this year, when we have more information that will help us in making our decision.

Because of this, I obssessed less about our wedding planning. I stopped being active in our online community, and even ceased blogging for a while.

It doesn't mean I've completely turned my back on all things related to our wedding planning. I still continue surfing the Internet for ideas, and leafing through magazines for inspiration.

Because of the extensive time left for preparation, I still have the liberty to allow my imagination to wander (What details will make for a fabulous wedding!) and encourage my common sense to keep me grounded (A wedding is only a day, a marriage is the rest of the days after that!) . In the end, I hope my head would come to a healthy compromise (A beautiful wedding as a start to a more beautiful marriage).

A wedding planning-related activity I recently indulged in is attending the launch of the latest Metro Weddings Directory.

I received the email invitation about a week before the event, and deliberated for days whether or not I'll actually go.

I resolved to attend on the day itself, when I finally admitted to myself that I'm still obssessed enough about our wedding planning to not want to miss this.

It was held at Heaven on the Fifth in Rustan's, Makati. And rightfully so. Stepping off the escalator, I seemed to be stepping into what looked like a piece of heaven.

K by Cunanan Catering, which was serving cocktails, set a romantic mood with the gorgeous flowers and elegant table settings.

The "stage" (which I'm not certain was done by K by Cunanan as well) was a stunning vision of simplicity.

I was the second to sign the guest book, right below Henry Pascual, the BFF-worthy stylist who I'd met at the recently held Wedding Summit. He had been so friendly, that when I saw him sitting only an arm's length from me, I almost wanted to chat him up (feeling close). I approached him instead after the event, during cocktails. He was as nice as ever, and excitedly reported that he was the official stylist for the upcoming Wedding Expo in September. He said it was going to be very different from his previous works.

I arrived at the launch in the nick of time, just as Metro Weddings' Editor-in-Chief, Romina Gonzalez, went "onstage," signaling the start of the program. She was pleasant and easy-going, making us feel very comfortable. She was also very engaging, as she talked about the magazine, the Directory, the content, and provided tips about wedding planning. I even saw a couple of brides taking notes. She talked to a few people in the audience (myself included) and I learned that there were a couple of w@wies present. She gave soaps to some of the brides, and a complimentary copy of the Directory to me. I already had a copy, but I happily received it anyway, and gave it to a fellow bride who was sitting in front of me.

After a while, she got everyone to play a game, which involved "scoring" oneself according to the "rules" she would be saying out loud. One example of a "rule" was something like "Give yourself 10 points if your fiance kissed you today."

I got a total of 44 points, which turned out to be the third highest in the group! I got a prize from the Beauty Bar, which was a paper bag filled with pretty-fying goodies.

There was a facial mask by Bloom called Skin + Tonic: A Facial Pick Me Up!;

Body Tonic Water and Body Lotion in Mandarin Orange by Durance en Provence, which my fiance thought were a couple bottles of orange juice when I showed it to him in Skype;

And an Exfoliating Body Wash by Bloom.

After the game, a representative from Rustan's (who had on the most gorgeous Black & White animal print shoes) talked about Rustan's The Registry (Weddings & Beyond), and gave away a few of the more popular items from their stores and then some - a MAC bridal kit, a duvet, glassware, and gift certificates to the Mandala Spa.

She picked from a bowl of calling cards. And voila! I won a duvet!

Apart from my "prizes," I also took home a goody bag, which they were giving away to all the guests.

Inside was the Jan - Jun 2007 issue of Metro Weddings, which I thankfully didn't have yet.

There were other goodies, too.

There was a cake by Penk Ching of the Pastry Bin;

And a gift certificate from Melissa Shoes at Anthem Rockwell.

Although I already had a copy of the Directory at home, I bought two more - one for my friend who accompanied me at the event, and another for Dino Lara, my photographer on which I was quoted in the magazine.

With the purchase of the Directory, I got a cool free gift!

It's a star-shaped bottle of perfume by Iridescents.

Aside from the Directory, I got the latest issue of Metro Weddings as well (with Amanda Griffin on the cover) - a great addition to my "collection."

I will most likely buy the next one (with Cheska Garcia on the cover), which Romina said may come out in August.

And thanks to Metro Weddings, I'm inspired to be active in the wedding planning circuit again!

My family and I are moving to a new home very soon! And with every new home, comes decorating and all that jazz. New hopes, new excitements, newly renewed goals and what have you.

As I go room by room, preparing for a larger home, there is a lot of items I NEED to get. And as we are hitting that stage in our lives, I am trying to make healthier investments in our home.

I have a few rooms that need work and thus have a long shopping list.

Of course, I sit on my stool here at the store, crunching the numbers associated with many of our products here at P'lovers.

Would you like a gander at my shopping list for inspiration for your own home?

The amount of research I have done is borderline ridiculous.

So lets take a look at the bathroom and baby's bedroom and after months of research the choices I have made.

Bathroom

Hemp Shower Curtain:

I have been shocked to discover that along with matresses, our shower curtains are one of the WORST offenders of emitting toxins into our home. And not those 'theoritical' toxins. BIG TIME. The Canadian government is ACTUALLY exploring a ban on PVC vinyl shower curtains. Ikea phased them out 11 years ago and Japan well on the way in their process to ban ready use of PVC.

This has frugal me shaking in my boots. I can't rationalize myself to keep within my extremely meager budget on this one. Its honestly frightening. I have spent many a minute now recalling all the times I opened a new vinyl shower curtain with its funky pattern and the ensuing dizziness, headache and annoying smell. HELLLOOOOOOOO...earth to self: THAT WAS IT POISONING ME!!! SERIOUSLY! Again, the price tag on the BEAUTIFUL hemp curtain we have on inventory is certainly looking sweeter and sweeter the more I plug along looking for a different options. To me, its looking like the only option I am willing to select, considering the accessible market choices.

Bath Mat

One of the first things I purchased once we committed to the new home! Mmmm....an OhsoSoft Bamboo bathmat in Straw. LOVELY. Easy to wash and maintain and insanely soft.

Noting beyond my small bathroom shopping list, P'lovers carries a WHOLE selection of bathroom textiles, soaps etc.

Childs Bedroom

Yikes. Don't get me started. This is a terrible terribly difficult shopping list for me. I have spent countless hours on this one alone, prior to the baby being born all the way to him now approaching two years old.

Mattress Options

Sigh. Besides our shower curtains, our mattresses are the most toxic offenders to our health. Honestly, we spend SO much time in our beds, and here they are quite literally poisoning us..this upsets me tremendously. Especially now that we are transitioning our son from being a baby to being a kid and moving him into his own room.

Looking at the healthy mattress choices on the market...unfortunately, as much as I want to give myself over, I can't feasibly find a mattress within our budget within the current market selection available to us in the Region.

So I am left improvising and creating the healthiest bed for my son.

We decided a barrier is what we needed. A good quality barrier between his skin, airways and the toxic chemicals added to standard mattress fibres. (notably the fire retardant material)

I have put on special order, a twin sized wool pile Snugsleep mattress overlay.

It is carded wool that has been shorn from the sheep and rewoven into a mesh. Its machine washable and provides wicking, a soft surface and a natural fibre barrier. Wool is also a natural flame retardant and acceptable within Canadian product laws as an alternative to the terrible chemicals proven to poison us.

I do believe the child will have to wrestle ME out of HIS bed. I can hardly wait till it arrives.

Bedding

Next I have eyed the Snugsleep Wool Duvet. Available in all sizes including a twin, I believe this will be our ethical and safe choice for a blanket for him. Not too hot for warmer months and just warm enough for cold days. Although....we have just begun carrying bamboo filled duvets which has me wrestling with my choices.

Paired with a Bamboo Duvet cover, he'll have a nice cozy healthy within budget that will allow me to sleep without nightmares.

Neglecting of course to mention all of the adult bedroom options including kapok and buckwheat pillows.

So thankfully, two rooms in which a lot of time is spent; two rooms which could be the most toxic in our home are safely under control and within my budget.

Note: for more in depth exploration of a Healthy Home, please be sure to take a look at the P'lovers extensive collection of books that cover all aspects of this topic.

Slippery fish and astronauts

Working from home is great. I can arrive at my desk within minutes, breakfast still in hand. I can look like the 'before' shot, on a ‘fright of the week’ makeover. I can wear fluffy slippers, have a chronic hair day and still not worry about public humiliation. If I resist the overwhelming urge to climb back into bed, along with the contents of my fridge, then I can even pass for a pretty dedicated writer. I work, as and when it suits me and I only have to answer to my conscience.

Well, that was how it used to be anyway and then Ella was born.

Before I could say ‘sleep depravation’, I had two fulltime jobs, no pay rise and a CV that suddenly seemed painfully inadequate. I felt as though I was strapped on a treadmill, jogging uphill while juggling six slippery fish and getting nowhere fast. A 24 hour day was no longer enough anymore. It soon became as obvious as the stretch marks around my receding belly that writing and motherhood might just be as incompatible as oil and water.

Both cause sleepless nights, endless worry about development and the capacity to stretch the boundaries of the Patron Saint of Patience. Both demand undivided attention, one with a blank screen and the other with a high pitched squeal. Both throw tantrums, but only one can be shut down. Both give you a reason to get out of bed in the morning, but only one can drag the duvet off and peel back your eyelids.

As the years tick by, the harder it becomes to hear myself think and sometimes to think at all. I work to a backdrop of endless questions and the deep and meaningful conversations of Nemo and Dory. I stop and start more times than a clapped out car; it's a wonder I ever get to the end of anything.

What saves me? I think perhaps that wonderful female gift, the ability to multi-task with the expertise of a NASA astronaut. So just as I can drive (minus the map reading), carry on an intelligent conversation and apply liquid eyeliner, all with military precision - so I can perform a number of child-orientated tasks, while barely interrupting the flow at the keyboard.

Unfortunately this gift stops short of phone calls. It's incredibly hard to sound professional and on top of things, when accompanied by the honeyed tones of Barney and his fabulous rendition of 'Wheels on the Bus'. To make matters worse, never am I more at the mercy of my devilish child, than when she is just out of cable's reach. I am forced to indicate silent warnings of untold punishment with my free hand, whilst keeping the telephone voice intact.

My turned back and pre-occupied mind offer an open invitation, to cause the maximum amount of trouble in the minimum amount of time. As I write this, I can sense trouble brewing and the lumpy curtain twitching. I learnt long ago, that danger is heralded not by noise, but by a deafening silence. It invariably means that something is being opened, emptied or eaten. The longer it takes to drag your eyes from the screen, and hunt down the culprit, the bigger will be the crayoned masterpiece across your shiny white wall.

So, throughout the chaos and tantrums, I try to work. Using a tried and tested combination of gentle persuasion, bribery and thinly veiled threats, all in the quest for enough peace and quiet to finish the sentence I started the day before.

Then, as I sit here, lost in verbs and typing at speed, my pint-sized editor climbs onto my lap. With crumbs flying and greasy little paws banging away at my keyboard, two big, brown angelic eyes blink up at me. "I want to hug you Mummy" she says.

With this, I remember why I love working from home. Although it may be testing at times, it allows me to be there every day, to watch her grow and learn and play. So when my brain is frazzled, my fingers are sore and I need a break, I can't think of a nicer reason to stop, than to get a little TLC and alot of love from my little girl.
