Justice - DVNO - Ed Banger - 2008

Como las cosas buenas, Justice se disfruta más en pequeñas cantidades, sin entender esto desde un punto de vista negativo, más bien todo lo contrario. Su primer álbum fue un bombazo, † (2007, Ed Banger) despertó a cualquiera que creía que la electrónica había perdido las ganas de marcha (aunque esto es como el rock, miles dicen que ha muerto y cada año demuestra que está vivo y coleando), puso de nuevo a Francia en el mapa de los primeros puestos, cuando Air había pasado a un segundo lugar ya. Y aún hoy se siguen publicando más 12” extraídos de su obra maestra.

Es por eso que su disfrute es mejor en pequeñas dosis, canción por canción. En vez de escuchar toda la traca sin descanso, es preferible ir a un tema y ver los diferentes remixes que han hecho otros artistas de la canción en cuestión. La electrónica esto lo tiene muy claro desde los inicios: los hits son los que triunfan frente al LP como concepción cerrada. De ahí que podamos disfrutar de 12” donde una canción es revisada cinco veces, como es el caso que nos concierne ahora.

DVNO es otra de las cabezas de serie de †; rápida, cogiendo del techno lo mejor: la fuerza de la base, y del electro la otra parte: pura oscuridad y unos ritmos alocados. Así dan con un hit bailable, pegadizo y directo para cualquier amante de este sonido. Por si no fuera poco su versión original, la banda nos muestra otra versión, más cruda, sucia y con dos minutos más de metraje. A cuál mejor.

Después, otros artistas aportan su remix y lo hacen con altibajos. El mix de Sunshine Brothers desnuda a la canción, quitándola el ritmo alocado, convirtiéndola en un tema de house simplón en comparación con lo que es la original. Por el contrario, el mix de LA Riots es de los buenos, de los que priman los beats para dar al tema aún más fuerza, así, entre constantes breaks y cambios de ritmo, dejan una gran revisión. Mientras, el de Surkin y el de Petits Pilous, están entre medias, buenos ganchos, pero sin mejorar la original.

El ejercicio debe ser muy difícil cuando se tiene un tema como éste, en el que el ritmo ya está perfectamente casado, donde la pegada está garantizada. DVNO es una referencia indispensable para los amantes de Justice, y también para todos aquellos a los que les guste sentir el baile en sí mismos.

As well as a considerable amount of remixes by Justice.There's been a constant stream of remixes of Justice's huge 2007 album, as those in the electro genre try and grab some fame by reinterpreting some of the Parisian duo's bigger hits. For the most part, these remixes are immediately forgettable. But rarely the remixer manages to provide somthing genuinely good.

Here LA Riots manage to out-Justice, Justice. The Party was one of the weaker tracks off of The Cross, it was a little flat and Uffie's cringeworthy rap 'skills' made it one of the rare duds on the album. But LA Riot have made it a little more immediate and a little dirtier. Uffie's vocals are glitched up and played around to add to the songs rhythm, which also has the benefit of depriving us of having to hear her awful rhymes and makes it sound, along with the increased prominence on the bassline, more like Justice.

Also included is a remix of D.V.N.O which is less impressive in its improvements, but that is more down to the fact that the original is quite good, unlike The Party

Justice tocarán en el FIB 2008 el domingo 20 de julio, rubricando una noche que promete ser intensísima, y hacerlo con algo como lo que muestra este vídeo puede ser descomunal. Con todos ustedes, después del salto, un clip de Justice en directo pinchando su reciente single 'DVNO' (el título del vídeo dice que la mezclan con 'D.A.N.C.E.', pero yo no la escucho por ninguna parte). Vale, sí, estarán en el Sónar también, pero tenerlos a las 3 de la mañana en el Escenario Verde será impagable. Vean...

Don't ask me why, but I've always been oddly curious about those brief production title sequences at the start of films. Here, french duo Justice turn it into an art form to provide some Karaoke-style cues. The Stephen J. Cannell-style finale makes for a nice touch.

Tal y como nos ha adelantado Alex de Indiespensables el dúo francés Justice ha publicado su cuarto videoclip de su LP † (cross).

El tema del vídeo es "Stress" la pista 10 del álbum y ha sido dirigido por Romain Gavras, a diferencia del de D.A.N.C.E. y DVNO que han sido realizados de la mano de SoMe (director artístico de ED Banger Records). Personalmente este clip me ha dejado 5 minutos pensando que es lo que acababa de ver y que a estas horas todavía no lo he acabado de realizar. Por ello creo que ha sido un gran trabajo por parte de Gavras, que también colaboró con Simian Mobile Disco.

Espero tener pronto nuevas producciones del grupo insignia de la discográfica francesa que ha revolucionado las pistas de medio mundo.

There's a term in the hospitality industry called "ratios". It's a legitimate practice of ensuring that anywhere alcohol is served consists of roughly an even ratio of males to females. I know it's legitimate because when I did a "Responsible Service of Alcohol" course they told me all about it.

If you end up with more guys than you have girls, boys become sexually frustrated and get violent. This isn't oversimplifying things. That's what guys who've been drinking do.

Bouncers however, use the "ratio" excuse a little too often. The fact is, if you're a guy, don't even bother lining up for a club unless you have at the very least as many girls in your group as guys. And if you're in groups of more than four, split up into smaller groups. A large group is an easy excuse for bouncers to knock back a large number of guys - or ugly people.

Yes I said ugly people because bouncers will quite literally walk through a queue looking for hot girls and then allow them to skip the queue entirely. This has given some females so much ego that a lot of girls won't even head to the back of the queue. They'll walk directly to the front and hope to be let in based purely on their looks - and it works.

Bouncers also walk past the queue and single out people and tell them "not to bother", with no real reason given.

The ratio excuse is being used to ensure that there are more good looking people in a club than ugly people. Inside a club it is no coincidence that sometimes at least 80% of the people would be considered very good looking. Good looking crowds mean that good looking people will come back. What better business reputation for a night club owner is that?

If you think this ratio method isn't used to control the racial climate of a club you're sadly mistaken. Clubs are notoriously divided by ethnicity. Patrons in the bigger Melbourne clubs will usually have a high percentage of white Australians, while other clubs will often be known as "Asian" or "Woggy" (yes I hate that word too).

As Melbourne grows this practice will only get more out of hand. The next time you're driving past a nightclub in the city and there is a large queue, watch the groups of boys being asked to step aside, the good looking girls being asked to jump the line, and notice the way that most people will be of the same ethnic background.

Such a cool music video. Oh, and I figured out something more interesting to wear tomorrow! Not exactly breakthrough, but I did remember the glory of the in-between of jeans and tights, leggings. How could I forget?!

Setelah mengeluarkan album pertama mereka: † atau biasa disebut "Cross", apalagi dengan single video D.A.N.C.E yg keren abis, nama mereka langsung meroket. Video klip D.A.N.C.E menang di MTV Europe Music Awards sebagai Best Video, dan juga dinominasikan di Grammy di kategori yang sama. Album † juga dinominasikan di Grammy sebagai artis electronic/dance terbaik.

Saya memang penggemar musik dance/electronic sejak dulu, tapi sewaktu mendengar Justice dengan single D.A.N.C.E, kesan saya adalah mereka hanyalah artist dance biasa yang sedang menikmati kesuksesan sementaranya.
Tapi setelah itu, saya mencoba meng-download semua track di album †. Setelah mendengar track-track seperti Genesis, Phantom Pt.1 & Pt.2, DVNO, Waters of Nazareth dan lainnya, kesan saya langsung berubah total: Wah inilah album electronic/dance terbaik yang pernah saya dengar sejak "Human After All"-nya Daft Punk. Saking sukanya dengan album ini, saya seperti sudah tidak sabar mendengarkan album mereka yang berikutnya (yg sepertinya masih lama T_T)

Uhn-tss-uhn-tss-uhn-tss-uhn-tss...what's that sound? It's Gay Lasery Beats!

This time on Gay Lasery Beats, Justice! Don't let this band's "rock and roll" look fool you, they're totally friuty to the core! They're a French electronic band, and your beats don't get much gayer or laseryer than that. Sample their artistry after the jump.

Let's start this off right, with the band's first single from their debut album, D.A.N.C.E.

Both fruity and awesome as hell. The band started off doing remixes for a bunch of French bands as well as several bigger mainstream artists like NERD and Daft Punk. Their remix of We Are Your Friends with Simian won best video in the 06 MTV European Music Awards. That was when Kanye West rushed the stage saying he deserved to win. That boy is talented, but man is he a douche bag.

Their first album Cross (the symbol, not the word, but I'm not doing the ascii thing) came out last year and it's totally full of homoey goodness. They almost verge into that cool enough that it crosses the line into straightness sometimes. Sort of like a Chemical Brothers thing where it might go over in a straight club alright. But don't worry, it's still about 99.9% totally gay. You're much more likely to hear it while sweaty men are grinding on one another. And that's a good thing.

You might also have heard Justice if you saw the Hitman movie. Yeah...I didn't see it either(though I loved the games). Their latest single, DVNO, was the song featured in the movie and the video came out pretty recently. It's similar to the D.A.N.C.E. video and maybe not quite as cool, but still nifty. I'll leave you with that, and just try getting the song out of your head after listening to it.
