-    Winpcap 4.0: http://www.winpcap.org/ (550 KB)

Jika telah muncul kata Connected to Dynampis VM “R1” (ID 0, type c7200) – Console port, tekan [Enter], kemudian pilih no (n) jika muncul pertanyaan Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog?

Gambar 5

Gambar 6

Beberapa perintah dasar Router Cisco

(wp)

Guys,

Journey begins here, CCIE Lab in 3 month, below is the list of the study material

CBT nuggets CCIE

TCP/IP Routing VOL I/II

Internetworkexpert Workbook Vol 1/2/3

Dynamips

Since I have already passed the writing test, my primary goal will be hands on lab practice. My plan is go through IEWB VOL1/2/3 in two month and focusing on Mock Lab and reading cisco documentation the last month.

Today, after some messing around, I finished built up my lab environment pretty much following this instruction http://www.internetworkexpert.com/resources/iosonpc.htm, this guide is quite accurate, I am using a Dell Latitude D630 Laptop Intel Core2 Dual CPU T7250 2.00GHz with 4GB Ram. After loading 14 3640 routers on my machine, CPU usage is around 80%, I will see how it perform when start running the actual routing protocol. One little thing I want to point out is remember to unzip the original ios bin file, otherwise idlepc value can not be locked down.

I do not have any actual Cisco 3550/3560 switch yet, so I will be focus on the routing protocal lab for the next few weeks while hunting around the ebay, if u are reading this and have some spare, please let me know.

Ok this is for you MM, thank you for the wallet you bought me, hope you had a good sleep last night, I miss you so so much. Part of the reason I am setting up this blog is to let you know I am working very hard to try to get back to you, and counting on the days to see you in New York.

I have heard about dynamips more than a year ago now and my quest for setting up dynamips for my cci

I have heard about dynamips more than a year ago now and my quest for setting up dynamips for my ccie lab was not high until today.. Today i have gone thru the journey of many ccie candidates and found very interesting to read their blogs which are inspiring to all of the collegues in this journey.

Out of that Ethen Banks one was the thrilling one. He did really well in terms of passing the whereabouts of his journey to us and we all know that we are facing the same challenge when it comes to getting the number..

First most dedication, time etc.

OK when talking about my dynamips setup i had managed to buy a Toshiba Satellite laptop exactly a year ago with 120Gig HDD and 2Gig RAM. I have been successful in installing Windows XP Pro, Vista and Ubuntu then. During this time (june 2007) i had changed my job to my current job and got involved in new challenges. My CCIE journey got delayed from then.

But I was able to do the security certification CISSP last year and CISA in Decemver 2006.

Now today I have gone through the hacki forum again and found lot of guys successfully did the lab with the help of dynamips only. So I have decided to set it up on my Ubuntu.

Firstly i did a google and found a link

http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-423644.html

i was able to download the dynamips and dynagen files from the internet. But my ubuntu didnt allow me to open the rpm file.

Then i found that ubuntu was Debian based and we need to convert it from rpm to deb format.. but further googling give take me to this link

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=440520

Finally I managed to run the lab on my laptop!

Last night I finally got the chance to sit down and drill in to the inner workings of Dynagen/Dynami

Last night I finally got the chance to sit down and drill in to the inner workings of Dynagen/Dynamips. Setting it up wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Well, considering the fact that this is not really the first time I’ve touched it. I’ve actually played around with it in the past, but just not enough to be able to set up my own lab.

Learning it began by reading the tutorial. It wasn’t as straight-forward for me as I’d like it to be. But with a little bit of resourcefulness (translate google.com) I was able to get a little sense out of the documentation. The screen-shots on the tutorial were also helpful in giving me a good understanding of what the text was trying to explain. Perhaps one day I’ll write up my own tutorial in a more straight-forward fashion... although it might be improbable that I will since there are so many write-ups and video tutorials on it all over the web already. Maybe I can post links instead. Yeah… that’s what I might do. =)

For my first exercise, I went ahead and “labbed up” one of the lab figures in Wendell Odom’s ICND2 OECG book. In particular, I’m talking about figure 10-5 on page 390 where he talks about EIGRP. It was cool to be able to replicate the results he was trying to illustrate in the examples when I had to manually re-create them. It definitely helps to solidify the knowledge and expose the deep mysteries that abound in his examples – ok, not quite as dramatic!

I think I’m going to enjoy the thrill and the benefits of this wonderful invention called Dynagen/Dynamips. Invented by the ancient Chinese monks in 300 B.C. it has revolutionized the way IOS simulation is done. I would go as far as to say that it helped pave the way to the Chinese invention of the “noodle”. Ok, I’m just kidding. It was the Italians that invented the “noodle”. Or was it? We may never know…

Hello everyone,

Hello everyone,

As some of you already know now I'm associated with Netmetrics-Solutions and I'm developing for them the R/S workbook for Dynamips, in this post I'll explain how to install Dynamips and put the necessary .net (Dynamips file) plus the Diagram connection for you to download (and keep an eye on Netmetric's website since sooner you will be able to buy the new workbook version at a very good price!!!)

For those who does not know Dynamips is a powerful way to emulate a cisco routers (different from those emulators that only emulated some commands of a Cisco IOS) Dynamips was developed by Christophe Fillot and can actually load a IOS file on your computer, so far it can emulate a lot of routers (switches are not included) in the netmetric you will see that a 3640 is used with a NM-16ESW card (which gives us 16 FastEthernet ports).

First you need to install winpcap click here: then you can install Dynamips.

You have two ways of installing dynamips, first is to download the dynamips executable file or either go to a package called Dynagen (it's a front end written by Greg Anuzelli) which has the Dynamips files in the package. The Dynagen package can be download here (install the Windows installer package)

The last one is to add a Microsoft loopback address if you want to use a Terminal Access Server (to do a reverse telnet to access the equipments) or rather you could install TerraTerm or SecureCRT and open all the equipments in different tabs I prefer this method.

If you don't know how to add a loopback interface in Windows go to this webpage: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/839013 (Make sure you reboot your machine before you can use it)

Now that you have Dynamips installed download the .net file including the Diagram with connection between the virtual routers clicking here (the rar password is netmetric)

After changing the right parameters such as the right image directory and workingdir directory you are good to go, double click first in the bat file "dynamips-start.cmd" that will start up the two dynamips processes and the last one double click in the "Netmetric_Routing_Switching.net", you will need to have a cco account with cisco in order to download an image (sorry guys but I can't help anybody at this point)

You need to find the most suitable idlepc for you to use, plus binding the loopback interface with the ACCESS_SERVER router:

[[Router ACCESS_SERVER]]
model = 3640
console = 2000
autostart = false

  E0/0 = NIO_gen_eth:\Device\NPF_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

In order to do this click on Network List and find the corresponding NPF_ of your loopback interface and add in the last line of the Access Server.

The ACCESS_SERVER initial config file is using the IP address 169.254.10.20 and has a default route pointing to the IP Address (169.254.10.10) you need to configure the Loopback IP address with the IP: 169.254.10.10

Now you just need to start the routers, try to start R1 first (start R1) from dynagen console and find the idlepc with command (idlepc get R1) to find the specifically idlepc chose one marked with asterisk.

Then you can modify the .net file and put this idlepc for both instances in the line # idlepc = 0x60531c2c (get rid of the comment line and put your idlepc value there)

Enjoy your virtual routers with Dynamips and wait for Netmetric's workbook to be released. Hope you have enjoyed this post. I will try to add a step-by-step video in a near future. Thanks

The official webpages in case you need to check for more information are:

Hello,

If SecureCRT is your favorite telnet/ssh tool, you can now use it with Dynamips !
Procedure is quite simple and is described below :

- Modify your dynagen.ini file in C:\Program Files\Dynamips and add the following line :

telnet = start C:\progra~1\SecureCRT\SecureCRT.EXE /script c:\progra~1\dynamips\securecrt.vbs /arg %d /T /telnet %h %p  & sleep 1

- Write a vbs script and copy it into the same folder as dynagen.ini file. The script filename must be securecrt.vbs

#$Language="VBScript"
#$Interface="1.0"
Sub main
crt.window.caption = crt.arguments(0)
End Sub

All is ready now, when you issue a "telnet /all" on dynamips console, SecureCRT will run and each router will be displayed in its own tab.

HTH ;)

Advanced LAN Configuration (Part 2): Cat 3550, Spanning Tree Protocol.

Root Ports.

switch(config)#interface vlan 100
switch(config-if)#ip address 192.168.0.100 255.255.255.0

Using Dynamips for CCIE Lab Preparation

Cisco Press:

- CCIE Routing and Switching Official Exam Certification Guide, 3rd Edition.
- CCIE Routing and Switching Exam Quick reference Sheets: Exam 350-001 v3.0
- Routing TCP/IP volume I (second edition) and volume II

Introduction

Dynamips is a Cisco router emulator written by Christophe Fillot. It emulates 1700, 2600, 3600, 3700, and 7200 hardware platforms, and runs standard IOS images. In Chris’ own words:

This kind of emulator would be useful to:

·         Be used as a training platform, with software used in real world. It would allow people to become more familiar with Cisco devices, Cisco being the world leader in networking technologies ;

·         Test and experiment features of Cisco IOS ;

· Check quickly configurations to be deployed later on real routers.

Of course, this emulator cannot replace a real router, it is simply a complementary tool to real labs for administrators of Cisco networks or people wanting to pass their CCNA/CCNP/CCIE exams.

Although Dynamips provides a simple virtual switch, it does not emulate Catalyst switches (although it does emulate the NM-16ESW).

Dynagen is a text-based front end for Dynamips, which uses the “Hypervisor” mode for communication with Dynamips. Dynagen simplifies building and working with virtual networks:

* Uses a simple, easy to understand configuration file for specifying virtual router hardware configurations
* Simple syntax for interconnecting routers, bridges, frame-relay and ATM, and Ethernet switches. No need to deal with NetIOs
* Can work in a client / server mode, with Dynagen running on your workstation communicating with Dynamips running on a back-end server. Dynagen can also control multiple Dynamips servers simultaneously for distributing large virtual networks across several machines. Or you can run Dynamips and Dyngen on the same system
* Provides a management CLI for listing devices, starting, stopping, reloading, suspending, resuming, and connecting to the consoles of virtual routers.

Dynagen is written in Python, and is therefore compatible with any platform for which there is a Python interpreter (which is to say, many). The design is modular, with a separate OOP API for interfacing with Dynamips. Other Python applications could be written that use this API for programmatically provisioning virtual networks, or to provide other front-ends. For example, a team is working on GNS-3; a GUI front-end using this library.

If somehow you have stumbled upon this tutorial without first finding the Dynamips or Dynagen web sites, here they are along with some other important links:

I haven't done a bit of studying since I failed that exam a week ago. I wanted to jump right back on the horse, this week, and get to studying my weak points (IPv6, IS-IS, and multicast). My wife and both of my daughters came down with the flu last weekend, and I've been fighting it all week. On top of that, I've been dealing with bursitis and cellulitis in my left arm/elbow.
We've also stepped up our effort to re-IP our entire corporate network, and made some changes to the WAN this week. Needless to say, there's been a little too much going on to really focus on any studies. I was eligible to take the exam again yesterday. I will try to take it again in the next week or so.

I spent a good chunk of time last night into this morning messing around with dynamips on my work provided laptop. It's a Pentium M 1.6Ghz machine with 1 gig RAM. I was trying to do labs using 2621XM as the platform, and I couldn't get more than two routers loaded w/o crashing dynamips. I moved to 3640's with two different IOS images this weekend (ip plus for BBR and FRSW, and Enterprise for the pod routers). So far, I'm able to get all routers fired up without spiking the processors. I started loading configs on the FRSW and the BBR's this morning and the CPU spiked. We'll see how the laptop handles full configs.
I know I have the rack here, but I don't get a whole lot of time to dedicate to it, unfortunately. I'm almost at the point of selling it off just to buy a decent home PC/Mac and a laptop.

Hello gears,

I installed SDM engine today in order to prepare myself for ISCW test.

I searched the web about howto's but I never found what I needed. Hope that tutorial can help someone else.

Steps :

Configure an ip address on a router interface and enable it. This interface must be fast/ethernet type.

Ex :

Router#conf t

Router(config)#ip http secure-server (Some keys should be generated...)

Router(config)#interface fastethernet0/0

Router(config-int)#ip address 172.16.0.2

Router(config-int)#duplex full

Router(config-int)#no shut

Install a loopback adaptater on your pc : You can follow the following article for this Link.

Run the "Network device list" batch from Dynamips folder and gather the hardware reference for your network adaptater.

Edit you .net file and add the following statement

F0/0 = NIO_gen_eth:DeviceNPF_{ ** your nic reference **}

Tonight I worked through the core sections of Lab 8. As I write this I have just completed all core sections up to and including BGP. I started at 20:00 prompt and it is now 22:45, so it took me 2 hours 45 minutes to work though the core sections. I will be writing up my notes for this lab tomorrow, but I was generally impressed with my speed, progress and understanding on this lab.

Dear valued yet infinitesimal amount of readers,

Dear valued yet infinitesimal amount of readers,

I can tell that dynamips is about the only thing that brings the few readers I have to this blog. I completely understand and as such I would like to reward the few readers I do have.

I am keeping the promise made in the "mea culpa" post and I will start posting "Route Me" chapter by chapter. In an effort to gain more readership I will also give away 3 days of access to my dynamips server per chapter posted.

The server itself is a dual-core ubuntu server with 4GB of DRAM -- enough to run even the most intensive lab. I will provide each winner with 3 days exclusive access to the box via ssh. As an addition I will also provide 1 hour of 1-on-1 mentoring on any networking subject you wish.

To qualify for the free hours and mentoring the only thing you must do is post your opinion of each "Route Me" chapter posted. The post should be made in that chapter's comment section. I will award the most interesting/insightful/funny/helpful/harsh comment with the 3 days of access and 1 hour of mentoring. I am looking for honest opinions -- so do not hold back.

To kick things off I will go ahead and award 3 days of access + 1 hour of mentoring to one of the first 10 people to leave a comment to this post. Please note that mentoring will only be provided from 6:00PM CST to 1:00AM CST.

I also plan to move this entire site to DotNetNuke -- that is once I have enough traffic to justify it.
