The e-book “Dead People in Dreams” was created after my summer offer of free dream translation and psychotherapy, using the example of dreams from contributors, besides many of my own dreams, since they revealed to me the reason why many of my friends and relatives had to die while they were still young.

There is no real faith even inside the Church or inside the most supposed sensitive human hearts.

 

Man believes in the existence of God doubting it at the same time, while following the behavior pattern of Satan.

 

The astonishing scientific discoveries of the last century in the fields of biology and astronomy proved to the world that the human being is simply a descendent of primates and that the existence of many stages of transformation justifies the human evolution.

 

The unknown of space was approached and the moon stopped being romantic, after the first steps of man on this natural satellite of Earth.

 

Everything suddenly could be explained and understood. We had no need of the existence of any superior being. Everything could be scientifically justified through research that revealed to us the cause for the appearance of each observed phenomenon on our planet.

 

The human being felt that he himself was God!

 

However, the horrors of human life in a world governed by terrorism, violence and immorality provoked much damage to the spirit of humanity.

 

The well-explained phenomena at a certain point needed more explanations that could not be given, and many false conclusions stepped on the contradictory truth that could not agree with them.

 

Today, the answers found for all the questions that silently remained without answer, clearly reveal to the world that nothing could begin on Earth because our planet is too young, and nothing could be transformed here if it had not been prepared to evolve.

 

Therefore, we need indispensably to admit the existence of a superior brain that organized the functionalism of nature and prepared the programs of development of each organism, determining a priori their level of evolution and their limitations.

 

Only because the human being is an idiot, since the biggest part of his brain is still in a primitive stage, can he not accept the idea of being inferior to God, and only because he is so evil that he could be named Satan, he hates the idea of being religious, calm, pacific, and obey to the wise directions of the most developed existent human conscience, which reached sanctity and perfection, and is the only one that can save him from craziness and despair with its wisdom.

 Putting down marks on paper is very exposing, so you may wonder how the introverted slower poke tolerates this. The answer is the small class size. I quickly become accustomed to the particular people around me, so i don't feel like i'm being singled out of a room full of strangers. I am starting to relax into the setting and exchange conversation with the people around me. I couldn't have done this just two years ago, but with treatment i got to where i could give it a go. I'm hoping that this experience will make other new situations easier to tolerate. It hasn't cured me, but it gives me hope for a more normal existence.

If you are a thoughtless, careless man about your soul, you will take no interest in the subject of this tract. Faith and assurance are mere names and words to you: they are neither land, nor money, nor horses, nor dress, nor meat, nor drink: like Gallio, you care not for them. Alas, poor soul! I mourn over you. The day will come when you will think differently.

Reader, if you really desire to go to heaven, and to go there in the Bible way you will find the subject of this tract of the deepest importance. Believe me, your own comfort in religion, and your peace of conscience, depend exceedingly on understanding the matter about which I am going to speak. I say then, that faith in Christ, and a full assurance of being saved by Christ, are two distinct things.

A man may have saving faith in Christ, and yet never enjoy an assured hope, like the Apostle Paul. To believe, and have a glimmering hope of acceptance, is one thing; to have joy and peace in our believing, and abound in hope, is quite another. All God's children have faith: not all have assurance. I think this ought never to be forgotten.

I know some great and good men have held a different opinion: I believe that many excellent ministers do not allow the distinction I have stated; but I desire to call no man master. I dread as much as anyone the idea of healing the wounds of conscience slightly; but I should think any other view than that I have given a most uncomfortable gospel to preach, and one very likely to keep souls back a long time from the gate of life.

I would not desire to make one contrite heart sad that God has not made sad, or to discourage one fainting child of God, or to give a soul the impression that you have no part or lot in Christ, except you feel assurance. I do not shrink from saying, that by grace a man may have sufficient faith to flee to Christ, really to lay hold on Him, really to trust in Him, really to be a child of God, really to be saved; and yet to his last day be never free from much anxiety, doubt, and fear.

"A letter," says an old writer, "may be written which is not sealed; so grace may be written in the heart, yet the Spirit may not set the seal of assurance to it."

A child may be born heir to a great fortune, and yet never be aware of his riches, live childish, die childish, and never know the greatness of his possessions.

And so also a man may be a babe in Christ's family; think as a babe, speak as a babe, and, though saved, never enjoy a lively hope, or know the full privileges of his inheritance.

Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ a man must have, beyond all question, if he is to be saved. I know no other way of access to the Father: I see no intimation of mercy excepting through Christ. A man must feel his sins and lost estate, must come to Jesus for pardon and salvation, must rest his hope on Him and on Him alone. But if he only have faith to do this, however weak and feeble that faith may be, I will engage, from Scripture warrants, he shall not miss heaven. Never, never let us curtail the freeness of the glorious gospel, or clip its fair proportions. Never let us make the gate more strait, and the way more narrow, than pride or love of sin have made it already. The Lord Jesus is very pitiful and of tender mercy. He does not regard the quantity of faith, but the quality He does not measure its degree, but its truth. He will not break any bruised reed, nor quench any smoking flax. He will never let it be said that any perished at the foot of the cross. "Him that cometh unto Me," He says, "I will in no wise cast out" (John vi. 37). 1

Yes, reader! though a man's faith be no bigger than a grain of mustard seed, if it only brings him to Christ, and enables him to touch the hem of His garment, he shall be saved: saved as surely as the oldest saint in paradise; saved as completely and eternally as Peter, or John, or Paul. There are degrees in our sanctification: in our justification there are none. What is written is written, and shall never fail: "Whosoever believeth on Him," not whosoever has a strong and mighty faith, "Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed" (Rom. x. 11).

But all this time, I would have you take notice, the poor soul may have no full assurance of his pardon and acceptance with God. He may be troubled with fear upon fear, and doubt upon doubt. He may have many a question and many an anxiety, many a struggle, and many a misgiving, clouds and darkness, storm and tempest to the very end.

I will engage, I repeat, that bare simple faith in Christ shall save a man, though he may never attain to assurance; but I will not engage it shall bring him to heaven, with strong and abounding consolations. I will engage it shall land him safe in harbour, but I will not engage he shall enter that harbour under full sail, confident and rejoicing. I shall not be surprised if he reaches his desired haven weather-beaten and tempest-tossed, scarcely realising his own safety till he opens his eyes in glory.

Reader, I believe it is of great importance to keep in view this distinction between faith and assurance. It explains things which an inquirer in religion some times finds it hard to understand.

Faith, let us remember, is the root, and assurance is the flower. Doubtless you can never have the flower without the root; but it is no less certain you may have the root and not the flower.

Faith is that poor trembling woman who came behind Jesus in the press and touched the hem of His garment (Mark v. 25). Assurance is Stephen standing calmly in the midst of his murderers, and saying, "I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God" (Acts vii. 56). Faith is the penitent thief crying, "Lord, remember me" (Luke xxiii. 42). Assurance is Job sitting in the dust, covered with sores, and saying, "I know that my Redeemer liveth" (Job xix. 25). "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him" (Job xiii. 13).

Faith is Peter's drowning cry as he began to sink: "Lord, save me!" (Matt. xiv. 30). Assurance is the same Peter declaring before the Council, in after times, "This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts iv. 11,12).

Faith is the anxious, trembling voice: "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief" (Mark ix. 24). Assurance is the confident challenge: "Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? Who is he that condemneth?" (Rom. viii. 33, 34).

Faith is Saul praying in the house of Judas at Damascus, sorrowful, blind, and alone (Acts ix. 11). Assurance is Paul, the aged prisoner, looking calmly into the grave, and saying, "I know Whom I have believed," "There is laid up for me a crown" (2 Tim. i. 12; iv. 8).

Faith is life. How great the blessing! Who can tell the gulf between life and death? And yet life may be weak, sickly, unhealthy, painful, trying, anxious, worn, burdensome, joyless, and smileless to the very end.

Assurance is more than life. It is health, strength, power, vigour, activity, energy, manliness, and beauty.

Reader, it is not a question of saved or not saved that lies before us, but of privilege or no privilege, it is not a question of peace or no peace, but of great peace or little peace, it is not a question between the wanderers of this world and the school of Christ, it is one that belongs only to the school, it is between the first form and the last.

He that has faith does well. Happy should I be if I thought all readers of this tract had it. Blessed, thrice blessed are they that believe: they are safe; they are washed; they are justified. They are beyond the power of hell. Satan, with all his malice, shall never pluck them out of Christ's hands. But he that has assurance does far better, sees more, feels more, knows more, enjoys more, has more days like those spoken of in Deuteronomy, even "the days of heaven upon the earth" (Deut. xi. 21). 2

Reader, whoever you may be, I exhort you never to be satisfied with anything short of a full assurance of your own salvation. With faith, no doubt, you must begin, with simple, child-like faith: "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." But from faith go on to assurance. Rest not till you can say, "I know Whom I have believed."

Believe me, believe me, assurance is worth the seeking. You forsake your own mercies when you rest content without it. The things I speak are for your peace. It is good to be sure in earthly things; how much better is it to be sure in heavenly things!

Make it then your daily prayer that you may have an increase of faith. According to your faith will be your peace. Cultivate that blessed root more, and sooner or later, by God's blessing, you may hope to have the flower. You may not perhaps attain to full assurance at once: it is good sometimes to be kept waiting; we do not value things that we get without trouble. But though it tarry, wait for it. Seek on, and expect to find.

Hm, film jadul nih. Seangkatan dengan Jurasic Park. Saya sudah terlalu bosan menonton film-film bertemakan binatang purba. Tapi saya tertarik scene ketika mereka di atas rakit. Saya jadi teringat waktu saya SMP di Labuhan Haji dulu. Ketika liburan kenaikan kelas saya bersama kawan-kawan di kampung membuat rakit dari pelepah rumbia atau pelepah pohon sagu.

Kita semua berdelapan. Ada yang lebih tua dan ada yang lebih muda dari saya. Tapi kita kompak membuat rakit-rakitan itu. Di Kampung Baru itu mengalir sebuah sungai yang di tepi sungai tersebut banyak ditumbuhi pohon sagu. Kami memotong banyak sekali pelepah untuk membuat sebuah rakit lalu mengikatnya dengan kulit pelepah dan akar-akar pohon yang kami temui di sana.

Rakitpun jadi. Bentuknya sama sekali tidak mirip dengan rakit. Lebih tepatnya disebut onggokan pelepah sagu yang diikat dan dihanyutkan ke sungai. Lalu kami naik ke atasnya. Awalnya terasa gamang juga karena susunan pelepahnya bergerak-gerak ketika diinjak karena ikatannya tidak rapi. Tapi akhirnya kegelisahan kamipun hilang setelah rakit berhasil bergerak beberapa meter dan terus bergerak dengan mulus.

Menyaksikan hutan sagu, semak belukar, rumpun bambu, kicauan burung dan aktivitas hutan lainnya dari sungai ternyata seru juga. Apalagi naik rakit bersama kawan-kawan yang kadang kala suka becanda berlebihan. Berteriak-teriak dan suka mendorong kawan yang lain.Tentu saja kejahilan mereka itu membuat kami panik karena susunan rakit jadi makin tidak stabil. Tapi keadaan kembali terkendali ketika kami melewati lubuk. Kata pawang rakit, Mirul. Daerah itu adalah tempat terdalam dan angker. Kita semua jadi diam tanpa bicara. Bahkan tidak ada yang berani mendayung. Laju rakit melambat. Suasana jadi hening mencekam. Tiba-tiba kami dikejutkan dengan suara ceburan air. Ternyata seekor biawak baru saja menceburkan diri ke dalam sungai karena melihat kami.

Lubuk itu pun kami lewati dengan harap-harap cemas. Kami sudah memasuki kampung lain dan sebuah titian dari batang pohon kelapa melintang di depan kami. Sang pawang rakit memutuskan untuk berlabuh di sana. Dia memegangi sebuah parang. Setengah meter dari titian tiba-tiba Mirul menebas tali pengikat rakit hingga putus sehingga pelepah-pelepah sagu beserta penumpang yang lainnya tercerai-berai dan kami gelagapan dan panic mencari pijakan lalu melompat ke titian.

Haha…Dua orang kawan kita tidak berhasil melompat ke titian dan tercebur ke sungai. Kita semua memaki-maki Mirul yang sudah melarikan diri menerobos semak-semak keladi.

Masa-masa kecil memang tidak pernah bisa terlupakan. Banyak sekali pengalaman-pengalaman seru yang menjadi kenangan indah di masa-masa sekarang ini. Ketika kita tidak mungkin lagi berlaku seperti waktu itu. Setiap kali mengingatnya, pecahlah tawa atau tersungging saja senyum dari bibir atau suasana hati menjadi haru.

My End of Year Examinations are over! YAYYYYYYYYY!!! (((: I am soo happy and relaxed now! I don't have school today because I am having IT day! Superb!! I can do so many things that I want now! The first thing that I must do is to teach my brother for his upcoming examinations too. The second thing I wish to do is to go out with my best friend, Jasmine R Gomez, which I promised that I would in the last post and I will keep my promise to her!

I don't have really much to say so I will upload some pictures to let you guess what I am thinking right now or what I plan to do during the holidays. Oh yea! I need to find handicraft for small children in a child care centre! I am going to go to a child care centre on Monday with my beloved class, 1Humility and 1Grace. We are going there to earn CIP hours. Oh no, I am going to have G.B this Saturday and we are going to do drill! Nevermind i will upload some pictures now like I said just now.

I can’t decide if Alan Bennett’s Enjoy is a comedy or tragedy.

Although the play’s first half presents an amusingly clichéd portrayal of an old-fashioned, working class Yorkshire family, the second half deconstructs both the notion of the typical working class family and its dramatic portrayal.

The superficiality of theatre is revealed when the set is removed, leaving only the protagonists on stage - who are no longer farcical characters, but vulnerable people.

Along with Bennett’s writing; Alison Steadman, David Troughton and Josie Walker’s cracking performances made me reflect on the effect of a generation who ran from taboos, such as homosexuality and domestic abuse.

The comedic element of Enjoy covers the darker side of human nature. Black comedy is a deceptive tool, which can strike a stronger chord than a straight play. On realising I'd been laughing at the character’s tragic lives, I felt sadness and pity, but also guilt.

Happiness & Pleasure

 

Are Happiness and Pleasure correlated?

 

They say:

 

1.         Pleasure is Quantitative;

            Happiness is Qualitative

 

2.         Happiness is a lifelong goal

 

3.         Happiness requires cognitive judgment

 

4.         Pleasure is not essential to achieving happiness – here I do not agree. I feel happiness and pleasure are not mutually exclusive; in fact genuine pleasure can be the source of much happiness.

 

No philosopher has better explored the distinction between happiness and pleasure than Epicurus, a Greek Philosopher of the Third Century BC. Epicurus (341-270 BC) espoused a strategy for achieving genuine human happiness by emphasizing the delights of the mind (over which a person has control) rather than the delights derived from material things (which are so often beyond one’s personal control).

 

Epicurus’ name survives in the team “epicurean” which is used to refer to someone with elevated tastes and a lifestyle centered on pleasure. However, if you peruse his philosophy thoroughly, you will realize that Epicurus counsels a way of life very different from what the popular use of the term “pleasure” implies.

 

You may feel that Epicurean philosophy champions the pursuit of pleasure as the supreme goal of life, but this does not mean the unrestrained pursuit of excesses of any kind. Instead, Epicurus argues for a life of sober restrain and moderation in all things. The pleasures Epicurus recommends are those that are easy to achieve and simple in nature. The prolonged pursuit of pleasure is best achieved by restraint and enlightened choice.

 

It may be the prudent to moderate our single minded pursuit of “outward” success and achievement, the mindless acquisition of material possessions and accumulation of wealth, tendencies to showing off and ostentation, conspicuous consumption and lavish unrestrained pleasures; and focus more on the more authentic “inner” pleasures of life such as happy family life, enriching relationships, cultivating the mind and intellect, enjoying the pleasures of friends and companions, and living on the higher plane.

 

Epicureanism does not advocate the wanton pursuit of pleasure. Also, you must remember that pleasures and pains of the mind are of greater importance than those of the body. Epicurus set forth a strategy for achieving authentic human happiness by emphasizing the delights of the mind (over which a person has control) rather than the delights derived from material things (which are so often beyond one’s personal control). The fundamental premise is that presence of pleasure is synonymous with the absence of pain.

 

Genuine happiness emanates from pleasures that are easy to achieve and simple in nature. If you have only a few things, we will enjoy them more than if you had many things, and if you do not become used to rich and expensive foods, then simple fare, which is easier to obtain will satisfy you more.

 

In a nutshell: “The Art of Happiness is in keeping your Pleasures Mild”.

 

And how do you keep your pleasures mild?

 

 

Desire & Pleasure

 

Are pleasures in any way linked to satisfying your desires?

There are two different types of pleasures:

'moving' pleasures

and

'static' pleasures.

'Moving' pleasures occur when one is in the process of satisfying a desire – like eating delicious food when one is hungry.

These pleasures involve an active enjoyable titillation of the senses which most people call 'pleasure.'

However, Epicurus says that after one's desires have been satisfied, like suppose you are fully satiated after eating a heart meal; this state of satiety, of no longer being in need or want, is itself pleasurable. Epicurus calls this a 'static' pleasure, and says that these static pleasures are the best pleasures.

Hence, Epicurus says that there is no intermediate state between pleasure and pain. When one has unfulfilled desires, this is painful, and when one no longer has unfulfilled desires, this steady state is the most pleasurable of all. There is no intermediate state between pleasure and pain – either your desires are fulfilled or they are not!

Epicurus also distinguishes between physical and mental pleasures and pains. Physical pleasures and pains concern only the present, whereas mental pleasures and pains also encompass the past (fond memories of past pleasure or regret over past pain or mistakes) and the future (confidence or fear about what will occur).

The greatest destroyer of happiness is anxiety about the future, especially the fear of death. If you can banish fear about the future, and face the future with confidence that one's desires will be satisfied, then you can attain a most exalted state of tranquility.

This we see that the key to happiness is the effective management of your desires – Desire Management.

 

 

Desire Management

 

There is a close connection between pleasure and desire-satisfaction.

 

If pleasure results from getting what you want (desire-satisfaction) and pain from not getting what you want (desire-frustration), then there are two strategies you can pursue with respect to any given desire: you can either strive to fulfill the desire, or you can try to eliminate the desire.

 

Epicurus advocates the second strategy of scaling down your desires to the basic minimum which can easily be satisfied.

 

Epicurus distinguishes between three types of desires:

 

1.      natural and necessary desires,

2.      natural but non-necessary desires,

3.      "vain and empty" or unnatural and unnecessary desires.

 

How we tackle each of these three types of desires determines our tendency to happiness [or unhappiness].

Examples of natural and necessary desires include the desires for food, shelter, health, sense of security and basic physical needs, cravings which will necessarily lead to greater pain if they are not fulfilled.

These basic desires are easy to satisfy yet difficult to eliminate (they are 'hard-wired' into human beings naturally) and bring great pleasure when satisfied [“Happiness begins at the stomach”].  Furthermore, they are necessary for life, and they are naturally limited: that is, if one is hungry, it only takes a limited amount of food to fill the stomach, after which the desire is satisfied.

Epicurus says that you should try to fulfill natural and necessary desires.

Vain, unnatural and unnecessary, desires include desires for excessive power, wealth, fame, and other ambitions which have all the trappings of prestige.

 

Vain desires are difficult to satisfy, in part because they have no natural limit. If one desires wealth or power, no matter how much one gets, it is always possible to get more, and the more one gets, the more one wants. These desires are not natural to human beings, but inculcated by society and by false beliefs about what we need; (e.g.) believing that being very powerful or wealthy or famous will guarantee us happiness. In fact, Opulence attracts thieves, and power and fame attract sycophants.

 

Epicurus says that such vain and empty desires should be eliminated.

 

An example of a natural but non-necessary desire is the desire for luxury food. Although food is needed for survival, one does not need rich expensive gourmet food to survive. Thus, despite his hedonism, Epicurus advocates a surprisingly ascetic way of life. Although you shouldn't spurn extravagant foods if they happen to be available, becoming dependent on such food ultimately leads to unhappiness.

 

These natural but non-necessary desires are those cravings that do not necessarily lead to greater pain if they are not fulfilled. These desires are typically recreational in nature: Sexual gratification, aesthetic desires, entertainment, pleasant conversation, the arts, sports, travel etc

 

In the case of natural but non-necessary desires approach life as a banquet. Think of your life as if it were a banquet where you would behave graciously. When a dish is passed to you, extend your hand and help yourself to a moderate portion. If a dish should pass you by, enjoy what is already on your plate. And if a dish hasn’t been passed to you yet, patiently wait for your turn.

 

To paraphrase Epicurus, "If you wish to make a man wealthy, don't give him more money; rather, reduce his desires". By eliminating the pain caused by unfulfilled desires, and the anxiety that occurs because of the fear that one's desires will not be fulfilled in the future, the wise Epicurean attains tranquility, and thus happiness.

Man kann halt nicht immer gewinnen. Dabei habe ich alles versucht, mir die Finger beim Einslive Telefon-Gewinnspiel wundgewählt und natürlich auch die Gewinnfrage beim Online-Fragebogen richtig beantwortet, über die deutsche Fanseite hab' ich's versucht,  - nur auf 'ner DM-Party ( z.B. in Köln beim DJ Elvis) bin ich nicht gewesen, obwohl so eine Fahrt im Fan-Bus natürlich sehr cool gewesen wäre.

Jetzt hocke ich frustriert hier vor'm Monitor, statt im Berliner Olympiastadion, wo gleich, in den nächsten Minuten, die Pressekonferenz von Depeche Mode stattfindet. Alles ohne mich, schnief...

Aber es war so ein Hype diesmal, dass es ein Irrsinnsunternehmen gewesen wäre, sowas wie 2005 in Düsseldorf zu versuchen - keine Chance. Zumal wir 5 Stunden Hin-und nochmal 5 Stunden Rückfahrt hätten investieren müssen.

Egal, ich wünsche allen, die dabei sein dürfen viel Spaß und hoffe, dass jetzt irgendwie doch noch der Livestream funktioniert, sonst muss ich leider kurz heulen! ;-)

P.P.S: Und die Front of Stage Tickets waren wenige Minuten später weg! Jetzt bin ich aber echt froh, hiergeblieben zu sein! Hammer, nächstes Jahr im Juni ist das Konzert und schon ist der vordere Innenraum ausverkauft...und wird natürlich bei Ebay schon überteuert angeboten :-(
