Safari is somehow... Pleasant to use. It's riddled with quirks that ought to be annoying. It takes a long time to fire up on a PC, and the big, gray, top space of the browser looks clunky and wasteful. Probably an artefact of Chrome/IE having that same space "smoked glass"ed.

I like the way IE does bookmarks, but I think I prefer the button bar concept in Safari. I find Safari's bookmark manager the least intuitive I've ever used, not that it's all that bad but instead of popping it into the window they replace your entire browser space with the bookmark manager and you have to select "Hide all bookmarks" from the menu or notice the little "book" icon is actually a visibility toggle. If you can wrap your head around this perversion of normal UI flow, you can probably get along with it fine.

Having just converted to using Safari's bookmark bar, I liked the presence of the same concept in Chrome; but then it one-upped Safari and put the pages I frequent into the "New Tab" display. IE8 does something sort of similar, their "New Tab" is no-longer the old "About New Tabs" page, but actually shows you things like tabs you recently closed, kinda neat. Safari, on the other hand, just shows you a blank page (I think you can configure it):

Yeah, don't try to read too much into my Chrome browsing habbits, I haven't used it that much. It has quirky problems with a bunch of popular sites.

The first couple of days I tried chrome, it seemed to have unpredictable performance. It crashed when I tried to go to Microsoft's site to see the Seinfeld teaser (note: I just told you that link crashed my browser, dumb dumb). However, I have definitely noticed that stuff which is JavaScript heavy is smoother and more stable, so sites like Facebook etc... I can best describe it as being like the difference between when you used to telnet into computers over a modem vs the first time you logged in to a server on a local network.

My more java-script intense tools at work feel nice and smooth: I pulled up the page that lets me review the chat logs (GM activity, HC activity, /reports, etc) and pulled down 6 months work of /reports in each browser:

• IE takes about a 60 seconds downloading the data, about 10 seconds loading it, about 15 seconds sorting it and then about a second rendering the resulting page (which shows 30 reports per page and 442 pages). It takes 1-2 seconds to switch between pages and nearly 30 seconds if you click "All".
• Safari takes about 53 seconds downloading the data, about 2 seconds loading it, about 11 seconds sorting it and then about a second rendering the resulting page. It takes about 1.5 seconds to switch between pages and around 12 seconds if you click "All".
• Chrome takes about 51 seconds downloading the data, about a second loading it, about 8 seconds sorting it and the page seems to render instantaneously. It takes about 0.8 seconds to switch between pages and around 6 seconds if you click "All"

(Yes, you bet I've suggested to Ramp that he look at whether we could switch to the Google V8 javascript engine instead of the one we're using right now!)

I tend to like sites that have that old "google" look & feel. Google is my search engine, I use LinkedIn, Friends Reunited and Facebook. My own web designs try to borrow from that same tones-of-blue-and-gray.

Because google is based on WebKit, like Safari they both share a cool pro and a bad con: The pro, resizable text areas allowing you to resize any multi-line input box on any page anywhere; the con, no default XML renderer so accessing an XML page just shows either a blank or bits of text. Both IE and Firefox have a default XML viewer that validates and then shows you the XML nicely marked up.

The first few days I was using Chrome, there were definitely some periods of sketchy performance that had me worried it was uploading or downloading a ton of stuff, but watching my modem lights quickly showed that to be untrue.

I do think Google are onto something with the way they are making every window/tab in Chrome a separate process. I've had a lot less multi-tasking issues with Chrome. It doesn't bring a whole lot of new ideas to the table, but it does a nice job of bring a lot of other folks' ideas together and polishing them well. There are some privacy concerns with the combined search/address bar and the fact it is continuously sending data up to Google.

I hope other browsers will take pages out of the Chrome leaf, but Chrome isn't going to become my preferred browser any time. I particularly hope it might shake up the Firefox team to quit being so Andreesen and focus more on function than form: they need to pander to the end user and the average web dev, not the detached and clinical pursuit of web standards to the letter. It surely is a pain supporting the mix of this and that across browsers, but that's how the web evolves - eventually some technique or practice becomes formalized and we move on. I see Firefox as a threat to that process, and supporting Firefox is always more work than as-yet-non-standard solution working elsewhere.

IE8 hasn't grabbed me in any particular way. It feels slower, it's clearly bloatier and although they've polished some IE7 adds, the IE8 adds feel more tacked on than IE7s Firefox/Opera/Safari clones.

So, despite my attachment to IE, here I am writing this article in Safari ;)

Google argues that current Web browsers were designed eons ago, before so many of the developments that characterize today's Web: video, scams and spyware,  viruses that lurk even on legitimate sites, Web-based games and ambitious Web-based programs like Google's own Docs word processor.

As Google's blog puts it, "We realized that the Web had evolved from mainly simple text pages to rich, interactive applications and that we needed to completely rethink the browser."

What this early version of Chrome accomplishes isn't quite that grand. With no status bar, no menu bar and only a single toolbar (for bookmarks), Chrome is minimalist in the extreme. At the moment, for example, there's no way to e-mail a Web page to someone, no full-screen mode, no way to magnify the page (rather than just the text), and no screen for organizing bookmarks. Google says that these features are at the top of its to-do list.

Chrome is, nonetheless, full of really smart features that seem to have been inspired by other browsers - or ripped off from them, depending on your level of cynicism.

Also under the hood are what Google considers some of Chrome's most important features - the security enhancements. Google says that each tab runs in its own "sandbox," so that if there's nasty spyware-type software running on one Web site, it has no access to the rest of your computer, or even the other tabs. Google asserts that this is much stronger protection than Internet Explorer 8 gives you, especially in Windows XP. (Internet Explorer 8 supplies its best protection only in Windows Vista.)

Released last Tuesday (September 2nd), the Chrome browser immediately grabbed 1 per cent of the market, according to Net Applications.

Internet Explorer accounted for 72.2 per cent of the browsers used in August to access the 40,000-plus sites Net Applications monitors. That was a drop of about 0.9 percentage points from July. Meanwhile, Firefox increased its share by about half a percentage point, climbing from 19.2 per cent in July to end August at 19.7 per cent. Other browsers also boosted their shares: Apple's Safari went from 6.1 per cent to 6.4 per cent, while Opera's share hit 0.74 per cent, up slightly from July's 0.69 per cent.

Google's entry into the browser software industry is seen by analysts as inevitable. Google relies upon the browser for its primary access path to users and the primary vehicle for delivering its ads. Not having control of the browser cedes control of this key element and its development path to competitors such as Microsoft.

An interesting and welcome feature of Microsoft’s new Internet Explorer 8 is its “privacy” mode. While the ability to browse privately is both a welcome development for consumers and also a feature of Chrome, it signaled a long-expected threat that Microsoft or Apple could interfere with software features critical to the functioning of the online advertising network/exchanges such as DoubleClick.

By developing its own browser Google can simply eliminate that threat.

GOOGLE & CHROME

THIS WEEK, Google launched a new Internet web browser, called Chrome, in rivaling Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Rumours have been abounding for several years now that Google, primarily a search engine, might be in the process of developing a new web browser, or even an operating system to rival Microsoft's Windows. Google dampened speculation throughout the years but, in launching the new browser, Google's co-founder, Sergey Brin said:

... The rumours just happened to migrate from being false to being true.

The creation and activation of Chrome amounts to the declaration of another browser war, and more, against Microsoft. Google may well argue that such moves are pre-emptive. In web searches and online advertising, such as 'Google ads', Google dominates by as much as Microsoft does within its operating systems and office applications. But, has Google been coy in admitting the rivalry with the launch of Chrome? Although Google has challenged Microsoft's core business through its web-based presentation applications, the extent of this challenge might yet grow much faster in the coming months and years. Although Google has few users in this area, laying down the gauntlet might well have repercussions in the future for Microsoft who has held a virtual monopoly over software applications like excel spreadsheets and word-based processing programmes.

Both Google and Microsoft have fears. Google's fears stem from the grip that Microsoft has over people's computers and browsers in tweaking the default settings so that Google's search engine might be disadvantaged. In 1990, this was, after all, how Microsoft behaved when it crushed Netscape, an earlier browser, in sharing the market. For Microsoft, it senses a threat that computing as a whole might move from the operating based system to the web. Previously, when Microsoft attacked Netscape, it was landed with an anti-trust case.  

Throughout the last decade, Google has risen to dominate the web. It invested a lot of time and energy in producing Firefox, a challenge to the dominant position held by Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Firefox is an open-source project, whose code can be changed by anybody. It currently has around 20% of the market.

Google has concluded, though, that even Firefox cannot protect it against Microsoft. It defined its business as being related to "search, ads and apps" where the applications (apps) being run are accessed through a browser. Google decided in building a new browser from scratch to facilitate its fledgling services.

Chrome, the new Internet web browser, is based on tabs, each of which runs independently of the others for security and durability. It even works offline. Rather than being launched through a press release, Google had decided to use the approach of a cheeky comic style presentation in promoting its product. One of the characters in the comic book, a Google engineer, says wryly in a speech bubble:

... We're applying the same kind of process isolation you find in modern operating systems.

Is that a way of saying that developers and consumers may soon stop caring about the operating system on their hard drives altogether? It is perhaps Microsoft's worst fear since its struggle with Netscape.

Chrome is an innovative and ingenious technological development because it will not need much market share in fulfilling Google's objectives. The resource isn't expected to be marketed for selling and, like Firefox, Chrome's source code will be free for anybody to change and improve. It might even be incorporated by future rival browser makers, including Microsoft.

Google would consider it a success if the next version of Internet Explorer were built on Chrome, or even if it were just a lot better as a result of Chrome being launched. Google ultimately seeks that people do ever increasing things on the web with peace of mind, that even Microsoft should not be able to interrupt.

این محصول در 2 ام سپتامبر امسال به 43 زبان منتشر شد و طبق اعلامیه گوگل نسخه های ویژه لینوکس و مک نیز به زودی به دست کاربران خواهد رسید . گوگل اعلام کرد که در این محصول جدید خود اهمیت زیادی به موضوعات سرعت , امنیت و پایداری داده است .مانند تمامی سرویس های شرکت گوگل انتظار داشتم با محصولی ساده و با کاربری آسان مواجه شوم که همین طور هم شد . ساختار متفاوت در نمایش Tab ها و منوی آدرس کاملا در بحث اینترفیس قابل مشاهده بود . با توجه به سابقه برخوردهای شرکت گوگل و ماکروسافت و نزدیکی انتشار نسخه نهایی مرور اینترنت اکسپلورر 8 شخصا بسیار علاقه مند بودم ببینم که محصول جدید گوگل چقدر توانایی رقابتی با اینترنت اکسپلورر دارد اما در مجموع آنرا  در سطح مرورگر فایرفاکس 3 دیدم.مخصوصا در زمینه پشتیبانی از جاوا اسکریپت . موتور جاوا اسکریپت کروم بنام V8  بسیار مورد توجه گوگل بود تا جایی که همچون سایر شرکت ها توسط یک تیم مجزای دانمارکی مدیریت و اجرا شده است.طبق بررسی های کارشناسی مشخص شده که سرعت این موتور جاوا حداقل 2 برابر فایرفاکس 3 و safari 4.0 بتا است در بررسی برخی شرکت ها با ابزار Sunspider JavaScript Benchmark  نتایجی که ذکر شد را تایید نموده اند و آنرا در سطح بالاتری از حتی اینترنت اکسپلورر 8 نیز دانسته اند.مرورگر اپرا (Opera) هنوز با Google Chrome مقایسه نشده است.در هر صورت به ظاهر سرعت درونی کروم بالاتر است . لازم به ذکر است کروم از واسط برنامه نویسی پلاگین نت اسکیپ (NPAPI) نیز پشتیبانی میکند .اما ActiveX را حمایت نمیکند .

مرورگر کروم گوگل با تکنولوژی چند پردازشی نیز برای tab ها بهره برده بطوری که هر Tab به عنوان یک پروسه مجزا عمل نموده وهیچکدام تداخلی در فرایند یکدیگر ندارند و به این ترتیب بر عکس سایر سیستم مرورگر ها به پایداری و امنیت بالاتری دست میابد.نفوذگری که به یک پروسه دسترسی پیدا میکند قادر به دسترسی به بقیه نیست و بروز اشکل در هر پروسه ای تنها مربوط به ان تب شده و دیگری را تحت الشعاع قرار نمیدهد . برعکس Internet Explorer که همه تحت تاثیر قرار میگیرند . تکنولوژی شبیه sad mac.

  محیط کاربری اصلی مرورگر Google Chrome دارای دکمه های برگشت به عقب , برگشت به جلو , رفرش , نشان دار کردن (bookmark) و انصراف است .این منو ها شبیه سافاری هستند اما محل تنظیمات همانند internet explorer 7/8 است . دکمه های بستن صفحه و فرستادن به پایین و یا بالا اوردن همانند ویندوز ویستا طراحی شدند .

در هنگام بازکردن تب جدید صفحه خانگی را به عنوان آدرس انتخاب میکند و قادر است  9 صفحه اینترنتی پر بییننده کاربر , صفحاتی که اخیررا بسته شدند و یا bookmark هستند  را  بصورت  thumbnails  نمایش دهد . در خصوص محیط کاربر شباهت های زیادی با مرورگر اپرا مشاهده کردم.در زمینه تکمیل اددرس ها نیز گوگل ادعا میکند که کروم شبیه ترین عناوین را به شما پیشنهاد خواهد داد . حتی صفحات پر بازدید توسط کاربر , محبوب ترین ها  نیز در این رده قرار میگیرند .

صفحات popup نیز تنها منتسب به خود تبی هستند که مربوط به انند و بیرون از ان باز نمیشوند که ویژگی جالبی است . پلاگین ها نیز در پروسه های مجزا با مبدا خود در ارتباطند که کمک بسیار زیادی به بالا بردن امنیت مرورگر کرده است.نکته دیگر در خصوص امنیت خاصیت Incognito است که به شما اجازه میدهد تا از صفحه مورد بازدید خود اثری در سیستم کامپیوتری به جا نگذارید ! همچنین با بروز رسانی دوره ای از دو لیست سیاه phishing و malware  شما رو از به دام افتادن در تور نفوذگران و وب سایت های آلوده به دور نگه میدارند .

Hatırlayanlarınız için vakt-i zamanında Microsoft'un Internet Explorer'ı varken ona rakip olan Netscape Navigator şüphesiz önemli bir alternatifti. Daha sonralarda gelen Firefox; eklenti sistemi, sekme özelliği ve daha bir çok kullanışlı yönüyle ilk etapta pazar payı olarak olmasa da kullanışlılık ve işlevsellik olarak Internet Explorer nam -hantallığı, kullanışsızlığı, standartlığı, Windows'la öntanımlı gelip bu işten anlamayanların bir tek o var zannedip kullanması vb olumsuzluklarla benim devlet dairesine benzettiğim- tarayıcıyı silip süpürdü. Pazar payı olarak da sürekli bir gelişim gösteriyor; sanıyorum %30 küsürlere falan ulaşalı epey oldu. Şu an tarayıcı pazarındaki durum tabi tam kesinlikle belirlenemez ancak genelde verilen rakamlara bir göz atıldığında durumla ilgili bir kanıya varılabilir. Meraklısına şöyle bir site önerebilirim.

Son olarak bahsettiğimiz hamle Google'dan gelen web tarayıcısı Chrome (tr. krom) oldu. Çok da ani oldu, şahsen çıkmadan önceki gece adını duydum bir sonraki gece de indirdim. Ayrıca orasını burasını kurcalarken de bir kaç saat geç yatmama neden oldu kerata :). Neymiş ne değilmiş derken 2 gün içinde(!) Win XP için gelen ön tanımlı temasının farklı renkleri bile çıktı (sizi mahrum bırakacak değilim elbet). Henüz sadece Windows XP ve Vista için piyasaya sürülen ancak Linux ve Mac'ler için de halen geliştirildiği ve yolda olduğu açıklanan Google Chrome'un mümkün olduğu kadar ayrıntılı bir son kullanıcı incelemesini yapalım bugün. Ve uzun bir "blog orucu" arasından sonra blogumuza da kaldığımız yerden devam edelim :)

Nedir, ne değildir? Yenir mi?

Öncelikle şunu belirtmek lazım, Google bir yazılım çıkarıyor ve Microsoft(!), Mozilla(!) ve Opera'nın(!) CEO'ları açıklama yaparak bir nevi "korkmuyoruz, burdayız, negzel hem rekabet de kızıştı ekiekieki" mealinde bir açıklama yapıyor. [Bir Fenerbahçeli olarak ben bunu aynen bizim yöneticilerin bir futbolcu veya teknik direktör gönderilmeden hemen önce "Bilmemkimin arkasındayız, kendisi görevinin başındadır" şeklindeki; aslen "biz de farkındayız takıma yarardan çok zararı var ama taraftar rahat olsun suyu ısındı" diye Türkçeye çevrilebilecek açıklamalarına benzettim :)) ] Dolayısıyla bunu da Türkçe'ye "3,5" şeklinde çevirebiliriz sanırım :)

Açık kaynak bir yazılım olan Chrome'u kurmak için yaklaşık 400kb'lık bir kurulum dosyası indiriyorsunuz ve ondan sonra gerekli dosyaları o indirip kurarak kurulumu yapıyor. Yani kurmak için internet bağlantısına ihtiyacınız var. Kurulum indirmeler dahil bir dakikanızı ya alır ya almaz. Pratik. Kurulum esnasında önceki kullandığınız tarayıcınızdan verilerinizi de alıyor (olumlu mu olumsuz mu tartışılır ancak bunu da başarıyla yapıyor). Firefox'tam tüm yer imlerimi, parolalarımı vs ne bulduysa söktü aldı, hatta yer imi araç çubuğundakileri de aldı kendi "yer imleri çubuğu"na ekledi, her şeyi hazır bir halde önüme koydu.

Chrome'u ilk gördüğümde "evet gtalk'un tarayıcı versiyonu" dedim, ilk gözünüze çarpacak olan şey sadeliği olacaktır. Üzerinde sadece adres çubuğu (omnibar; ondan da söz edeceğiz birazdan), bu çubuğun solunda 3 düğme, sağında 2 düğme, sekme çubuğu. Bitti, bu kadar. Menü çubuğu ve durum çubuğu da yok; bunun yerine linkin üzerine geldiğinizde veya herhangi bir sayfa yüklendiğinde vs sayfanın sol altında o anki işlemi belirten yarım satırlık geçici bir alan beliriyor. Menü yerine de adres çubuğunun sağında sayfa ve araç menüsü niyetine iki adet düğme var. Genelde görünüşüyle ilgili yorumlara bakacak olursak ekşi sözlük'te kendisinin "F11 etkisi"ne (F11: genelde tarayıcıları tam ekran görünümüne getiren tuş :) ) maruz kalmış gibi durduğu belirtilmiş. Tamamen katılıyorum. Hatta yer imleri çubuğunun bile sürekli görünmesini engelleyip sadece yeni sekme açtığınızda görünmesini sağlarsanız ortada pek az şey kalıyor. Ben bütün günlük ziyaret ettiğim siteleri yer imi araç çubuğundan takip eden biri olarak çözünürlüğü pek de yüksek olmayan iş bilgisayarımda bu yer imi çubuğunu yeni sekmede göstertip orada orta tıkla istediklerimi açıyorum, bir satır bir satırdır. Yerden tasarruf ve sadelik çok önemli. İşte Chrome bunu gayet layıkıyla yapıyor. Arayüz XP'de mavi renkle geliyor ve Vista'da da Aero'ya uyumlu, ve esas orada çok şık durduğunu belirtmeliyim. Özellikle "simge durumuna küçült" butonunun hemen solundaki küçük Google logosu cam deseni üzerinde harika durmuş.

Bunun yanında görünümle ilgili yapabildiğiniz özelleştirmeler anasayfa butonu ve yer imleri çubuğunun ekleyip kaldırabilmekten ibaret. Menülere bir göz atacak olursak:

Sürat, performans

Öncelikle Chrome'un Ajax gibi teknolojilerle donatılmış yeni nesil internet uygulamaları konusunda performanslı olduğunu belirtelim. Tarama motoru (rendering engine deniyor, Türkçesi için tavsiyelere açığım) olarak da webkit kullanıyor (çeşitli testler için ==> link1, link2). Google'un internetin yeni nesline bakış açısını bu performans değerleri ve internet sitelerinin kısayollarını masaüstüne program kısayolu gibi atıp çalıştırmamızı sağlayan işlevinden de anlıyoruz (işin Firefox boyutu için Prism isimli eklenti). Bunu yapmak için herhangi bir sitedeyken sayfa menüsünde (adres çubuğunun hemen sağındaki buton) "uygulama kısayollarını oluştur" deyip kısayolun konumunu seçmemiz yeterli. Bundan sonra gerek Google Office, gerek Gmail veya herhangi bir sitenin uygulamasını masaüstü kısayolundan tıklayarak adres çubuğu veya herhangi bir buton taşımayan gayet sade -ötesi- bir tarayıcıyla çalıştırabileceksiniz.

Programın genel açılış, kapanış, sayfa yükleme, script vs çalıştırma performansı (AMD64 3000+ 1800mHz, 1,5gb DDR RAM ve Celeron 1500mHz, 512mb RAM donanımlı iki bilgisayar olmak üzere) ÇOK ÇOK BAŞARILI! Başka diyecek bir şey bulamıyorum, bildiğiniz hızlı yani. Benim performans açısından yaşadığım tek sorun çok fazla flash içeren sayfalarda bir kaç kere hantallaşması ve çökme eğilimi göstermesi oldu, ancak sekmeleri kapatınca işime kaldığım yerden devam edebildim. Ayrıca yeri gelmişken belirtelim Chrome'un sekmelere bakışı da diğer tarayıcılardan biraz farklı, diğer tarayıcılar gibi tüm sekmeler aynı process'in bir parçası değil her biri ayrı ayrı process'ler, dolayısıyla herhangi bir sekmenin çökmesi durumunda bunun diğer sekmeleri etkilemeyeceği öngörülüyor (evet öngörülüyor çünkü yazılım henüz beta olmasına rağmen benim başıma böyle bir şey gelmedi). Ayrıca sekmeleri tutup sürükleyerek ayrı bir pencere haline getirebiliyor, sekmeleri birden fazla Chrome penceresi arasında taşıyabiliyor, yer değiştirebiliyorsunuz vs vs. (resimde havada duran sekmeye dikkat)

Genel Kullanım, Özellikler

Chrome'da yeni sekme düğmesi Internet Explorer 7'de olduğu gibi sekme çubuğunda, en son açılmış sekmenin sağ tarafında. Yeni bir sekme açtıysanız en sağda açılıyor haliyle, ancak bulunduğunuz sayfada bir linki yeni sekmede açarsanız (sağ tık-> yeni sekmede aç veya orta tık veya linki tutup sekme çubuğuna sürükleyerek) bulunduğunuz sekmenin en sağında açıyor. Kapatırkense en sağdaki sekme kapanırsa haliyle bir soldakine, diğer sekmeleri kapatırsanız da bir sağdakine geçiyor, gezinme sıranızı -Firefox gibi- hatırlamıyor. Açtığınız yeni sekmede en çok ziyaret ettiğiniz siteler, en son yer imleriniz, o oturumda kapattığınız sekmeler ortaya saçılıyor(!) ve geçmişinizde arama yapabilmeniz için bir de arama kutusu var.

Chrome'un indirme yöneticisi destekleyen sitelerde indirmenize ara verme ve kaldığınız yerden devam etmeyi destekliyor ancak iptal olmuş indirmeler için yeniden başlatma mevcut değil. Ayrıca indirilen dosyayı aç-çalıştır, içeren dizini aç gibi seçenekler de mevcut. Bunun yanında indirmenizi hangi sekmede yaptıysanız o sekmenin altında durum çubuğunun olması gereken yerde hız vs göstergelerle belirtiliyor, eğer indirme yaptığınız sekmenizi kapatırsanız indirmenizi görmek için araç düğmesinden İndirilenler'i (Ctrl + J) açmalısınız. İndirme yöneticisinin bir web sayfası şeklinde tasarlandığını hatırlatalım. Aynı şekilde Ctrl+H tuş kombinasyonuyla açtığınız Geçmiş de bir web sayfası şeklinde ve geçmişinizde arama yapmanıza da izin veriyor :). Şu ana kadar verdiğimiz detaylarda Chrome'un sadece görünüm olarak değil işlevsellik olarak da ne kadar sade olduğunu fark etmişsinizdir. Fazla ayar yok, fazla buton yok, arama çubuğu yok, indirme yöneticisi ve geçmiş arayüz olarak web sayfası ve son derece sade, vs vs vs...

Google'ın Chrome'da "omnibar" adını verdiği adres çubuğu, işlevleri sayesinde arama çubuğunu ortadan kaldırmış. Ayrıca Safari'den bulunan ve Firefox'ta da LocationBar2 eklentisiyle sağlanan, site adresinin ana kısmını diğer kısımlardan kalın yazma özelliği de var. Eğer ayarlardan Google'a veri istatiğinizi tutması konusunda izin verirseniz adres çubuğuna bir şeyler yazdığında Google'ın tavsiyeleri beliriyor, yazdığınız metne benzer daha önce gezdiğiniz ve/veya yer imlerinizde olan siteler önünüze listeleniyor (Firefox'un 3 sürümünde de bu özellik var ve adres çubuğunun adı da "Awesome Bar") ayrıca eğer bir site arama motorlarınıza dahilse o sitenin adı belirdikten sonra adres çubuğunun sağ tarafında "tab" diye bir işaret çıkıyor ve sekme (tab) tuşuna bastığınızda o sitenin içinde yapabiliyorsunuz.

Ancak Ctrl+Enter'la yaptığımız www.***.com kolaylığını Firefox'taki gibi Shift+Enter'la www.***.net veya Ctrl+Shift+Enter www.***.org şeklinde kullanamıyoruz. Bu bence olmazsa olmaz bir şey ve ileriki sürümlerinde muhakkak Chrome'a ekleneceğini düşünüyorum. Bunun yanında Arama motorlarını yönetmek için Araç Butonu -> Seçenekler -> Temel bilgiler sekmesinde Varsayılan Arama başlığına bakabilirr..... veya kısaca adres çubuğunda sağ tıklayıp "Arama motorlarını düzenle..." diyebilirsiniz :) Yine adres çubuğunda o an bulunduğunuz sayfayı yer imlerine eklemek için en solda normalde Firefox ve Explorer'da favicon'un bulunduğu yerdeki yıldızı tıklayabilirsiniz, burdan o yer imini kaldırma, nerede tutulacağını belirleme gibi işlemleri de yapabiliyorsunuz ancak dediğim gibi bulunduğunuz sitenin faviconu görüntülenmiyor. Bu konuda en iyi çözüm Firefox'un sunduğu şekilde adres çubuğunun sağ tarafını kullanmak olsa gerek.

Bu arada Firefox'tan bu kadar bahsetmişken bazı arkadaşlar "Chrome'un en iyi özelliklerini Firefox'ta da kullanın" mealinde bir yazı yazmışlar: Şurdan.

Durum çubuğu ve yer imi çubuğundan bahsetmiştik ancak bunlarla ilgili bir kaç ufak ayrıntı daha verelim: Birincisi durum çubuğu o anki duruma göre altta solda belirip kayboluyor demiştik peki sayfanın o kısmını görüntülemek istersek ne oluyor, çok basit; durum çubuğunun üsütne geliyoruz ve o da kendini yavaşça Chrome'un dışına atıyor. 2.si de kısaca yer imleri çubuğunda ayraç kullanamıyorsunuz.

Az önce yeni sekme açtığımızda karşımıza saçılanlardan(!); sık ziyaret ettiğimiz sitelerden, geçmişimizden vs söz ettik. Peki kaçımız her yeni sekme açığımızda ziyaret ettiğimiz herhangi(!) bir sitenin o an yanımızda olan insanlarca görülmesini ister? Elleri göreyim :). Şahsen ben istemiyorum, çünkü 18 yaşımı geçeli epey oldu ve gezdiğim her site başkalarını ilgilendirir diye bir şey yok. Chrome'un sıradaki özelliği "INCOGNITO"; yani tamamen gizlilik içinde, çerez (cookie) almadan, sayfa geçmişimizde kara bir leke olmadan [:p], kimliğimiz bilinmeden, Google'a veri göndermeden web sayfalarında gezinme özelliği. Google bunu "misal arkadaşlarınıza hediye alırken" diye suya sabuna dokunmadan çok güzel ifade etmiş [:))] ancak -linkini verdiğim- incelemelerden birinde bunu yazıp sonra üstünü çizip "porno sitelerde gezerken" diye düzeltmişler; çok güldüm :)) Tamam daha fazla meraklandırmadan açıklayalım, sayfa butonuna tıklayıp (adres çubuğunun hemen sağındaki) "Yeni gizli sekme" diyor ya da kısaca Ctrl+Shift+N tuş kombinasyonunu kullanıyoruz ve sol üst köşesinde şapkalı bir "ajan" resmi olan, rengi normal Chrome renginden daha koyu yeni bir Chrome penceremiz oluveriyor (Vista'da Aero sebebiyle renk farkı yok), iyi gizli gezinmeler :).

Chrome harici bir vekil sunucu (proxy) aracı barındırmıyor ve Araç butonu --> Seçenekler'de "Gelişmiş Seçenekler" sekmesinde "Proxy ayarlarını değiştir" dediğinizde karşınıza Windows'un İnternet Özellikleri penceresi geliyor. Yani Chrome'a sistemden bağımsız bir vekil tanımlayamıyorsunuz.

Her ne kadar web tasarımıyla pek işim olmasa, betiklerden (script) vs anlamasam da Chrome'da ilgililerinin hoşuna gidecek ufak bir kaç araç mevcut. Bunlara Sayfa menüsü butonu -> Geliştirici aracılığıyla ulaşabilirsiniz [gerçi geliştirici adam bulur zaten bunu ya neyse :) ] Bu menünün altında "Kaynağı görüntüle (Ctrl+U)", "JavaScript hatalarını ayıkla (Alt+") " , "JavaScript konsolu", "Görev yöneticisi (Shift+Esc) " seçenekleri mevcut. Görev Yöneticisi'ni açarsanız Chrome'da hangi sekmenin ne kadar işlemci, ne kadar bellek kullandığını görebiliyorsunuz, böylece her hangi bir sekme sorun verdiğinde Windows'un görev yöneticisinde "chrome chrome chrome" şeklinde her sekmenin aynı isimli işlemleri arasında kendi sekmenizi aramak zorunda kalmıyorsunuz.

Son olarak Easter Egg denilen hadiseden bahsedelim ve Firefox'dan about:config'den yaptığımız ayarları ve adres çubuğuna about:mozilla yazınca çıkan sayfayı hatırlayalım. Chrome'da da buna benzer kimi işlevler var. Misal about:version'la tarayıcınızın sürüm ve benzeri bilgilerini, about:plugins'le yüklü plugin'leri, about:memory'yle de o an açık tarayıcılar ve Chrome'un sekmelerinin kullandığı bellek miktarını görebilirsiniz. Buna ilaveten about:crash'la Chrome çakıldığı zaman ekrana gelen sayfayı :) , about:internets'le de görmeniz için Chrome'u yüklemeniz gereken bir sürprizi görebilirsiniz ;). Bunlar gibi bir kaç tane daha var, şu siteye bakabilirsiniz.

Google Chrome'un esas mevzularından birisi Web2, Ajax vs demiştik; bu sitelere örnek vermek gerekirse bir Meebo veya web üzerinden işletim sistemi olan Sun uygulaması Desktoptwo gösterilebilir. Bu sitelerde kendi içlerine dahil olan herhangi bir pencereyi (mesela Meebo'daki MSN pencerenizi) ayrı bir Chrome penceresi haline getirebilirsiniz, ancak bu aşamada enteresan bir şey oluyor ve yeni pencere Chrome'un içinde sadece başlık kısmı gözükecek şekilde en altta bir yerlerde kalıyor, ancak tıklayınca kendine geliyor. Önemli bir hata değil kesinlikle ancak aynı davranışı Chrome bir kaç popup'ta da yaptı, yani açılan popuplar sadece başlık çubukları en altta zar zor gözükecek şekilde kaldı. Gelelim bu incelemede beta olduğunu bu kadar olumlu özelliklerinden sonra belirtmek zoruda kalmadığım Chrome'un kimi eksi veya eksik yönlerine...

Öncelikle biz bilinçli internet kullanıcıları (tevazu mu?? o ne??) Firefox'ta her istediğimiz şeyi yapabilmeye ve daha da güzeli istemediğimiz hemen her şeyi kaldırıp hali hazırda biraz ağır olan tarayıcımızı tamamen kendimize özelleştirmeye çok ama çok alıştık. İşbu halde sadeliğinden bu kadar dem vurduğumuz yazılımın kaç adet kullanıcısı olacaksa bu kullanıcıların her birinin de birbirlerinden tamamen farklı tarayıcı tercihleri olacaktır. Kimisi fare hareketlerinden (mouse gesture) ölse vazgeçmezken, ben yer imlerime her bilgisayardan, internetin her köşesinden erişmek isteyeceğim, bir başkası Youtube'dan video indirmeden yaşayamazken bu insanların ortak noktası sitelerde gereksiz miktarda bulunan, hem kota düşmanı hem işlemci ve bellek bazında performans yiyici abartı flash reklamlardan kurtulmak istemek olacak. Yani kesinlikle ve kesinlikle Firefox'taki gibi bir eklenti sisteminden bahsediyorum!! Gadget widget tool falan değil yani, bildiğiniz addon, extension. Hatta altını da çiziyorum bu yazdığımın, çizdim. Özellikle hazır Chrome açık kaynak bir uygulamayken (al işte Chrome'a sempati duymak için bir sebep daha!) Google bu yazılımın eklenti opsiyonunu geliştirici topluluğuna açmalı ve aynı ulu tarayıcımız Firefox'ta Mozilla'nın yaptığı gibi keyfini sürmeli.

Adsense'den sağlam ekmek yiyen Google için adsense reklamlarını da engelleyen bir reklam eklentisi mi?? Evet bana da garip geliyor ancak adsense gibi sade metin reklamları adamın kafasını baymazken(!) diğer flash reklamları engelleyecek bir şeyler olmalı, muhakkak olmalı! Eğer Google "adsense olmadan asla" diyorsa; bu işin ortayolu bu olur gibime geliyor.

Chrome'un zannımca en bariz, ancak başka yerde hiç rastlamadığım olumsuz yönüyse yer imleriyle ilgili. Firefox altında Foxmarks kullanan biri olarak (asosyal biri olarak sosyal yer imleri sistemi bana pek cazip gelmiyor nedense, sevmiyorum) Chrome tüm yer imlerimi bir çırpıda Firefox'tan almışken Google Bookmarks'a giriyorum ve hiç yer imim yok. Evet doğru yok ancak ben 500 tane yer imini Google Bookmarks'a teker teker elle mi gireceğim?! [Chrome sayesinde sosyal yer imlemeye razı oluyorum fark edenleriniz için :) ] Yok artık daha neler! Chrome nasıl yer imlerini diğer tarayıcılardan canavar gibi alıyorsa, Google aynı şekilde Chrome'a bu yer imlerini internetin her bucağında Chrome yüklü olsun olmasın her bilgisayarda kullanılabilecek şekilde Google Bookmarks'a ekleyen bir araç eklemeli kesinlikle.

Aynı zamanda her ne kadar Google, Reader gibi bir hizmetle RSS olayında yardımımıza koşsa da, aynı Firefox gibi entegre bir RSS takip edicisini de muhakkak sunmalı, yer imleri çubuğunda onun için yerimiz hazır merak etmesinler.

Aynı şekilde Google, arama motoru dışında en başlıca hizmeti eposta (GMail) olsun, takvim olsun, dokümanlar olsun, yerimleri olsun, anlık mesajlaşma (GTalk) olsun bütün bu hizmetleriyle entegre çalışmayacaksa Chrome'un başından Google ibaresini paşa paşa kaldırmalı [Erman Toroğlu geçti lan sanki kapının önünden?? Hıncal mıydı yoksa; ammaaan neyse zaten "Federer adam, Phelps de yüzücü değil" boşverin gitsin ;) ]. Belki ilk anda abartı gibi gelebilir ancak bugün Firefox'tan, Digsby'den, masaüstündeki kıytırık widget-gadget'tan GMail hesabımdaki postalarımı istediğim süre aralığında otomatik olarak kontrol edebiliyorsam esasında bunları yapabilmem gereken ilk yer Google'ın kendi tarayıcısıdır. Aynı zamanda takvimdeki uyarılarla ve dokümanlarla da ilgili entegrasyon en azından eklenti ile dahi olsa sağlanmalıdır. GTalk'sa en başından beri beta kalmış ve Chrome'un sonunun da kendisi gibi olmamasını dilediğimiz, sadelik konusunda hantal Windows Live Messenger'ın sonuna kadar örnek alması gereken (tabi ne demezsin! Microsoft'tan bahsediyoruz; pratikliği, işlevselliği gördüğü yerde arkasına bakmadan koşa koşa kaçan Microsoft'tan) GTalk'tan. Google Chrome, yine en azından eklenti düzeyinde de olsa GTalk'la kesinlikle entegrasyon sağlamalı ve esasında çok işe yarasa da geliştirme bazında resmen unutulmuş gibi duran(!) bu projeyi de yakaladığı rüzgarla kendisi gibi iyi yerlere sürüklemelidir.

Durum

Genel durumu eksi/k kısımlardan başlayarak kısaca özetleyecek olursak, bir kaç ufak hata tabii ki bıraktığı bütün olumlu izlenimlerin yanında Google'ın rahatlıkla üstesinden gelebileceği işler, yeter ki Chrome'u öksüz bırakmayıp geliştirmeye devam etsinler. Eksiklere gelince, Google her ne kadar Chrome'la bir kere daha ifade ettiği üzre İnternete bakışını çevrimiçi ve site üzerindeki uygulamalara kaydırsa da, özellikle kendi servisleri başta olmak üzere bunların Chrome'la entegrasyonunu kesinlikle sağlamalı ve bunu herkes istemeyebileceği için eklentilerle yapmalı. Eklenti olayına da ilk olarak kendi resmi eklentileriyle başlamaları topluluk desteği açısından olumlu olacaktır. Bu tarz bir bakış açısı hem tarayıcının sadeliğinden bir gram dahi kaybetmemesini, hem de isteyen kişilerin sık kullandıkları Google servisleriyle tarayıcılarını istedikleri şekilde işlevsel bir biçimde özelleştirebilmelerini sağlayacaktır. Açık kaynak bir yazılıma yakışacak olan da tam anlamıyla budur.

Stand Alone Mission of Opportunity Notice (SALMON) Announcement of
Opportunity (AO)

NNH08ZDA009O, entitled "Stand Alone Missions of Opportunity Notice
(SALMON)" is being released by the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) on September 3, 2008. This Announcement of
Opportunity (AO) solicits investigations that address the science
objectives of the Science Mission Directorate's (SMD) astrobiology,
lunar science, and planetary science programs and the Exploration
Science Mission Directorate's (ESMD) fundamental space biology program.

SALMON is an omnibus AO that is comprised of several independent
proposal opportunities. Three proposal opportunities are being
released for the SALMON AO. Two related proposal opportunities are
being released for the ROSES-08 NRA. The three SALMON opportunities are:

1. Focused Mission of Opportunity (MO) to provide an in-situ dust
detector investigation for the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment
Explorer (LADEE). Notices of Intent (NOIs) to propose due September

En casa tengo mi precioso Mac, pero en el trabajo tengo que pelearme con una pecera que corre XP. En este ordenador del trabajo uso exclusivamente Firefox (me niego a utilizar la bazofia de Explorer) y hasta hoy estaba absolutamente convencido de que no lo cambiaría por otro navegador; ni siquiera por Safari (la versión de Windows es bastante peor que la de Leopard). Y sin embargo, después de haber trasteado con Chrome durante un par de horas, éste se ha convertido en mi navegador por defecto.

¿Los motivos? Voy a hacer una pequeña lista:

1- Soy un culo de mal asiento. Me gusta cambiar más de lo aconsejable

2- Es de Google. Y los productos de Google me funcionan siempre a la primera: calendar, gmail, reader etc... (algún día explicaré porque no uso Blogger) y Chrome no es una excepción.

3- La pantalla de inicio (parecida a la de Opera) me parece un acierto total. Se trata de mosaico con miniaturas de las páginas que más habitualmente visitas. Es un ejercicio imaginativo que demuestra las horas de brain storming que habrán echado estos tíos de Google.

4- Es muy interesante que cada pestaña sea un proceso independiente. Puede que consuma más memoria, pero si se te cuelga una pestaña no te casca todo el programa.

5- Aunque al principio confunde, creo que me voy a acostumbrar a que hayan unificado la caja de direcciones y la de búsqueda. Cuanto más minimalista sea una aplicación, sin que ésta pierda potencial, mejor.

6- Me gusta que se hayan cepillado la barra de herramientas. En un navegador no se trabaja con los típicos menús de Archivo, Edición, Ayuda...

7- Y por último, como ya he dicho al principio, Chrome es estable, liviano y sorprendentemente rápido.

La verdad es que la dependencia que algunos tenemos de Google empieza a asustar un pelín... Aunque los que deben estar francamente acojonados son los de Firefox (que viven fundamentalmente de la pasta que les pasa Google) y Microsoft (como a Google se le ocurra sacar una distribución Linux no me quiero ni imaginar la que se va a montar...)

Lo peor, sin duda, el logotipo. Menuda mezcla más poco afortunada entre el Simon de toda la vida y el Windows Media Player...

«Microsoft sigue en sus trece: en lugar de tratar de desarrollar soluciones más "sostenibles", sus aplicaciones siguen demostrando el poco cuidado que se tiene a la hora de limitar el consumo de recursos. Lo demuestra uno de los últimos estudios que se ha hecho sobre Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2, según el cual el consumo de memoria de IE8 es mayor incluso que el de Windows XP, algo que deja en evidencia la calidad de este desarrollo. Firefox 3, que ha mejorado en este apartado (aunque no tanto como hubiéramos deseado) consume la mitad de memoria que IE8 en las mismas condiciones, como se ve en el análisis en inglés de InfoWorld.»

Cuando Explorer consiguió aniquilar a Netscape con su versión 5, no tenían ninguna prisa en actualizar el navegador, lleno de bugs y problemas para los diseñadores web. Ahora parece que sí están interesados en actualizaciones, ya que muy poco tiempo después de aparecer la versión 7 ya anuncian la versión 8 en un claro intento de frenar la imparable escalada de Firefox 3.

De todos modos, confiamos que sus desarrollos continúen en esta línea de inferioridad clara frente a Firefox, para que no le haga ni cosquillas a nuestro navegador favorito (que por otro lado es gratuito y Open Source). Y también esperamos que el nuevo navegador de Google, Chrome, le quite una porción de mercado a Explorer. Mayor diversidad en navegadores, ayudará a que los mismos sigan los estándares de la w3c, beneficiando el desarrollo sostenible de la red y limitando las prácticas monopolísicas de Microsoft que tantos dolores de cabeza da a los desarrolladores.

The firefox is grouped along with the windows explorer windows.. I couldnt find out why this is happening.     The system admins at my office said they are seeing it for the first time.  i couldnt find an answer about it in google. if anyone knows why it is happening.. please share your knowledge

Hace 25 minutos: siempre he pensado que es muy importante ser la página de inicio. para mi es una categoría por desarrollar, un nicho por ocupar. esa página, esa marca, es lo primero que ven todas y cada una de las personas que acceden a Internet. es la puerta de internet. y eso es algo que tiene, valga la redundancia, su importancia...

Colorblindness, a particular type of visual impairment, affects approximately two percent of women and eight percent of men. People who are visually impaired in this way then, have great difficulty with color-based distinctions.

Once you have downloaded and installed WOT, follow these instructions to enable the color blind version.

Open WOT settings from the rating window

Go to the Advanced page

Select the option "Enable color blind accessible version"

Après un téléchargement et une installation très simples, j'ai essayé Google Chrome pour vérifier par moi-même si les évolutions étaient réelles. Sans hésitation, la réponse est oui ! L'avancée la plus pratique est d'avoir réduit à une seule zone unique de saisie, servant à la fois pour les recherches et de barre d'adresse. Dès que vous tapez quelques lettres, des sites sont suggérés, parmi vos dernières navigations et les résultats de recherches les plus courants.

Lorsque vous ouvrez un nouvel onglet, Google Chrome affiche une page avec des miniatures des sites que vous consultez le plus fréquemment : très pratique car automatique et plus intuitif que nos anciennes listes de favoris, qui une fois les 20 ou 30 favoris dépassés, devient illisible !

Enfin, sans avoir fait de mesures précises, les accès et connexions semblent beaucoup plus rapides.

Nul ne sait encore quelle sera la part de marché de Google Chrome dans les années à venir. Mais s'il détrône un jour Internet Explorer, personne ne pleurera sur le sort de Microsoft qui a tant fait, il y a quelques années, pour éliminer ses rivaux développant des navigateurs, tels Netscape Navigator ... La guerre est déclarée !

This browser has been designed to be very fast and to keep up with the variety of applications that need both graphics and multimedia. Google really have taken on a mammoth task. But they have came out winners this week after the unvealing of their browser wow-ed the technology crowd.

Google are still fighting the ongoing war with Microsoft for more popularity. With this crushing blow the people at Microsoft are surely reeling.

Google are certainly taking advantage of their sudden push, with the creation of many applications to keep up with today's market of web browsers. Some of the applications that they have used are actually already used in Google's Search Engines but have all been combined into this excellent Browser.

Chrome's interface will include the web address bar also acting as the their own brand of search engine. Google have also been kind enough to let you choose what company you want to use your search engine on.

Things can only get better for Google now as they advance their major assault on the web, with Mozilla, Microsoft and many other companies all fighting for the highest place on web dominance.

Google, the biggest and best search engine in the world, today released a beta of the smallest and best browser in the world.

Safe like mozilla, fast like opera, and somehow manages to seemingly run with no consequences to your computer speed & usage.

Microsoft are shaking in their boots.

I understand why Mozilla and Microsoft make big stinks saying their not impressed. However, we must look back to when navigator was king, they weren't impressed with IE probably. IE wasn't impressed with Firefox and now its the supposed "king" of the browsers. There mere fact that people are so quick to bash a less than 24 hour old product is just amazing. Not to mention that this product is considered a BETA product is even better. The browser will get better. It's pretty much open to all developers to create their own widgets and share it to the world.

It will be big, just like Google does everything they do big. I however am quite excited about the new advancements, that could potentially be created because someone is willing to try and open new doors.

Just give Chrome more time to shine than 24 hours. All things great did not instantly happen, they were created and crafted time and time again until perfection.
