- I got bored of normal English essay writing at school. I wanted to wander into subjects beyond the narrow confines of the classroom plus I really wanted to write more frequently in an environment where I could improve my language immensely.

- Things pertinent to me: music, pop culture, random stuff, etc. I enjoy writing about events the most, especially gigs or some cool outing with my friends. Basically anything I feel I want to remember in a decade's time when Video Blogs will take over normal Web Logs and I am old and senile.

- A blog that people can just go to to get a taste of a normal Malaysian young adult's life in the city as well as his views and sometimes comedic interpretation of the world.

- On average 50, but who's counting?

- I try to have pictures, but it is not the end of the blogger-sphere if I am picture-less.

- Yeah, I don't really believe in pseudonyms.

- My family and friends do while some people from the U.K. and U.S. just drop by randomly when I talk about movies and TV shows.

- I would say Blogger since they allow customization, but I am happy and comfortable with Wordpress.

- Anyone who can read, but I welcome illiterates as well.

- I would not mind being famous as long as I don't forget why I started blogging.

- Yeah, if I am online.

- Yeah, it is one of the modern day equivalents of the Social Responsibility Theory and Libertarianism, but seriously, life only happens once, so write about it, go through it, and enjoy it.

· Seeing as its now the middle of July, which give or take a few days can be summed up as being the middle of summer, and the middle of 2008, now is a good a time as any to sit back with a cup of tea and a biscuit and think about how the year's gone so far, technology wise.

Specifically, this week I'll focus on a trend that has really kicked off in 2008: Micro-blogging. Users of social networking behemoths such as Facebook and MySpace will already be well aware of the concept of micro-blogging, with built in features called "status updates". Put simply, it's like text messaging crossed with social networking -typing a short summary of what you're doing, and posting it for your friends (or the world) to see. I shall leave the argument of 'why bother' out of this review, because believe me, it's a potentially huge argument that'll do nothing but go back and forth until we all get tired, so to start I'll look at who the leading pack consist of, and who's not far behind.

Current 'King of the Hill' is a site that I've mentioned on and off over the last few months: Twitter. Built using Ruby on Rails, Twitter celebrates its 2nd birthday this month, so, perfect time to dissect it compared to its competitors. It finds itself in a unique position, one rarely thrown upon just any old 2.0 website, in that it's currently enjoying huge success as being a close potential as 'the next big thing' in the world of 2.0 technology, much like MyFaceSpacebook before it. Sadly, this surge of popularity has seen an absurd amount of downtime, to the point where the same people who built them up are trying to knock them down, and find a replacement.

Replacements aren't hard to find, in fact, they're pretty much everywhere, each of them with their own daft 2.0 name. There's nation-specific services (such as Germany's Frazr), there's sites that try to combine micro-blogging with other micro-services (such as filesharing with Pownce, life-streaming with Google's Jaiku, and podcasts with Spoink), and there's even sites that don't provide anything different at all, and just seem to have tagged along for the fun of it (that award goes to Identi.ca). Is there anything amongst this mountain of websites, including Twitter, that has the potential to have its 15 minutes of fame?

My focus this week is on Plurk; yes, another odd name, and yes, another micro-blogging site for you to try. In their own words they're a very "snazzy site", and from the moment you arrive you cannot help but agree. The layout of the micro-posts (or Plurks in this case) is set out in a timeline effect, allowing greater visibility on your Plurking pals, following the events of what's happening and when it's happening in a unique way, but still keeping the general jist of micro-blogging. A slight difference from Twitter, which has more in common with text messages (described somewhere I read as clean-slate messages), Plurk makes everything slightly more friendly, with an emphasis on actions, not too dissimilar from Facebook circa 2007 (Andy is, Andy thinks, Andy likes, et al...). Each “plurk” is posted to the timeline with the ability of threaded replies, and the service also offers “cliques” for plurk distribution and various privacy options. Mashable recently compared both Plurk and Twitter:

"The [Plurk] service has an odd, quirky feel to it; it’s much more visual than Twitter, and it’s fun to use. It uses colors to emphasize your ‘moods’, and it introduces the concept of karma, which should be familiar to Reddit users; the more you use the service, the more karma you get. In this case, karma even lets you unlock certain features, which almost feels like a mini game (if you like very boring mini games). Finally, just like Pownce, Plurk lets you divide your friends into “cliques”, which is just a fancy word for groups."

So is it enough? Will all these 'snazzy' features be enough to drag people away from Twitter, the next time it crashes? Better yet, has it got enough oommph to be the next MyFaceBeboBookSpace?

Sadly, it doesn't look like it. Much like Simon Cowell would explain to some pug-faced Christina Aguilera-wannabe dressed up in their Sunday best - sometimes, talent just isn't enough, you need to have 'the look', there needs to be hype. You could be the next big thing, but unless you gain a following, and convince that following that they love you, you could just be yet another karaoke singer down the local. Take Bebo for example; Bebo is like the Paul Potts of the Internet: it's far from being the best at what it does, and not only that, its rough on the eye, its slow, sometimes to the point of being unresponsive, yet it took just months for it to go from an average social networking website to one of the most frequently used and most talked about of the last year, to a point where AOL paid £417 million for it. Much like Potts, you have to forget potential, forget aesthetics; if enough people talk about you, sign up, and tell other people about you, eventually it builds up and up until you don't need to spend millions of advertising campaigns, because the public are doing it for you.

Can anyone remember Friendster? The site still has a huge 65 million people registered, but when was the last time you heard anyone talk about it? Friendster is like Craig David: 5 or 6 years ago it could have called itself the forerunner of networking, but a mixture of the 'fresh new look' of Myspace, coupled with a huge dollop of luck, hype, and great timing with the aforementioned site, Friendster soon faded into obscurity, with only the Philippines using it on a regular basis. Suffice to say that the $30 million Google once offered to buy it for is a long way away from being repeated.

The thing about Twitter is that it’s not the most popular micro-blogging service out there because it’s better than others. Okay, it's a good looking site, and fair dinkum, when its not suffering from downtime, it's simplicity is pretty addictive in a strange way, but even after that, it's only offering so very little, and sites like Plurk haven't taken it a step further, they're just repeating a good main course with a slightly different salad. The same problem lies with all of the other sites listed above; they've pitched themselves as being 'the solution' to 'the gap in the market', but there is no gap, and there never will be a gap until Internet users say so.

Wood for the trees moment here - If entrepreneurs are serious about investing in Micro-blogging, seeing it as having the potential to one day be on the same plateau as social networking, then they need their head seen to. The future for micro-blogging, for me, exists within social networking, and we have enough of those already.

· Sometimes whilst reading random RSS feeds, I may click on one that catches my eye, and it's not long before I find myself nodding along and agreeing with everything I'm reading. Such occasion happened last week in a TechCrunch post regarding the death of voicemail.

"It takes much longer to listen to a message than read it. And voicemail is usually outside of our typical workflow, making it hard to forward or reply to easily."

Author Michael Arrington conducted a Friendfeed survey (yes, another microblogging site) in which he asked if anyone actually still used Voicemail, or instead preferred using email, text messages, Skype, or any other type of communication.

For me, I can't help but agree. I find voicemail terribly annoying, time consuming and ancient. Gone are the days where leaving a voice message telling people I was 'away from my phone', or 'asleep' were important, nowadays it's a pre-recorded message, if anything. My work voicemail hasn't changed in the 2 years I've had my number; it has always been some stranger who left the company years ago introducing himself to the caller, before directing them to an email address long since deleted... maybe this would be a big deal, but nobody cares anymore; If I were to re-record it, my message were to be simply "why are you phoning me outside of office hours?" or "I'm more likely to respond to your urgent message if you text me, or email me, or just call me back in half an hour".

Leaving voicemail messages is just as tedious, and sadly in my line of work its almost expected of the worker, if they can't get hold of someone. Stutterings of Ums and Ahs before hurrying yourself through the call, hanging up, and realising you left out some important information which you then have to ring up and leave as a second message. Even once you have one, it takes about seven steps to listen to it, which brings up another good point - how often do these people you're calling check their messages? If you work for the same people I do - almost never.

Voice is here to stay as a data input method, but listening to messages will certainly become an increasing luxury, to be reserved for loved ones or those messages that aren’t transcribed properly (or you need to hear it for tone or emotion). For now most people don’t have voicemail transcription services. So think before you voicemail, more and more people just find it annoying."

Facebook has been here for such a long time and only now I really have gotten myself into this thing. It used to be Myspace and Friendster. I deleted my Friendster account after getting sick so many times looking at my ex (then husband's) page full of scantily clad girls blowing him kisses thanking him for his messages and counting on how many "funny" groups he had registered himself with.

I still keep my Myspace account eventhough I am beginning to have doubt on the kind of people who lurks in there nowadays. I have received "invites" from young men to have secret rendezvous to all the too-familiar Nigerian scammers who have all the tell-tales of cut-and-paste profiles and blurry images.

Facebook, in a way has so many utilities thats just waiting to be explored. At first, they all seem so childish and innocent. You poke someone, send another a bunch of growing flowers and send gifts to friends. But then I realised, there are always the inner child in every person and this site has provided that. Not mentioning of course there are other applications in the site to cater to the "sexy" minds, but hey, we are all adults.

I am totally hooked!

I don't know why I'm listening to it again but I just can't stop thinking of the song! And everytime we go to school, this song is always played! What's up with the world?! Hal tersebut biasanya dilakukan untuk ‘menjatuhkan’ orang tersebut dan adanya perasaan dendam, Untuk melakukan hal tersebut biasanya dengan melakukan pencurian account dan mengubahnya dengan account berbeda, contohnya password yang sudah diubah.

Dengan melihat fakta tersebut hendaknya kita waspada dan berhati-hati agar tidak terjadi yang namanya hacking friendster.

Metode Hacking Friendster

Sebuah account friendster bisa dijebol dengan berbagai metode, dari cara yang termudah sampai dengan cara tersulit. Semuanya memanfaatkan kelemahan dari pemilik account FS tersebut.

Beberapa metode hacking friendster yang biasa dilakukan, diantaranya:

Dengan menggunakan testimonial cara 1, dengan cara seperti ini si pelaku biasanya akan mengirim sebuah testi yang didalamnya telah dibumbui(emanya sayur bang ^^) skrip tertentu. Untuk mengelabuhinya, testi tersebut sengaja tidak dibuat dalam bentuk teks tetapi bisa dalam bentuk animasi flash. Pada testi tentunya yang akan terlihat hanyalah animasi menarik, tetapi ketika di klik maka si korban akan diarahkan pada halaman login palsu, yang menyatakan bahwa ia belum login, padahal tanpa sadar ia sudah memasukan username dan password ke tempat yang salah. Cara ini berlaku jika si korban mengeset penerimaan testimonialnya secara langsung.

Dengan menggunakan testimonial cara 2,, cara yang digunakan sebenarnya sama, tetapi cara kedua ini biasanya dilakukan jika si korban mengeset penerimaan testimonial tidak secara otomatis. Cara kerjanya, si pelaku akan mengirim testimonial untuk di approve, ketika si korban sudah meng-approvenya maka akan diarahkan pada halaman login palsu, sesudah itu kena dech.

Dengan MediaBox, cara kerjanya sama yaitu dengan menggunakan redirect URL. Letak perbedaanya, si pelaku sengaja memasang jebakannya pada mediabox profilnya, ketika korban mengunjungi halaman profile si pelaku maka akan diarahkan pada halaman login palsu, jadinya kena hack lagi dech.

Social Engineering, untuk cara yang satu ini berbeda dengan ketiga cara di atas. Social engineering menggunakan metode pengamatan dan penganalisaan dari isi profil yang ditampilkan, hal utama yang perlu diketahui adalah alamat email si korban. Setelah si pelaku mempelajari profil korban maka langkah selanjutnya adalah mencoba untuk login dengan menggunakan email si korban, untuk password akan mencoba segala kemungkinan yang cocok dengan profil friendster, seperti tanggal lahir, nama pacar, nama makanan kesukaan, tempat sekolah dan lain sebagainya. Cara seperti ini memang memerlukan waktu yang lama tetapi mujarab lho.

Sebenarnya masih banyak cara yang bisa digunakan untuk melakukan friendster hacking, sebagai referensi mungkin Anda bisa juga membaca buku karangan Thor yang di terbitkan oleh Elexmedia Komputindo.

Cara Mencegah Hacking Friendster

Jika Anda belum menjadi korban hacking maka Anda bisa mengikuti kiat-kiat berikut, supaya tidak menjadi korban berikutnya(kayak pembunuhan saja ^^).

Cara mencegahnya sebagai berikut:

Jangan melakukan penerimaan testimonial secara otomatis, pada bagian Privacy Setting ubah pada bagian “Approve comments automatically:” menjadi Never.

Jangan mengapprove testimonial yang isinya dianggap mencurigakan.

Jika setelah meng-approve testi atau mengklik testimonial muncul halaman login friendster baru, segera tutup halaman login tersebut. Ingat! Jika Anda sudah bisa mengapprove testi itu tandanya Anda sudah login, jadi tidak mungkin dusuruh login lagi. Tandanya jika Anda sudah login halaman logout akan ditampilkan.

Pastikan alamat login yang benar adalah www.friendster.com/login.php. URL palsu tentunya tidak akan menggunakan nama yang sama, tetapi hanya menggunakan tampilan yang sama.

Hal yang sepele tapi penting jangan lupa setelah mengakses situs friendster untuk melakukan logout, agar Anda bisa keluar secara aman.

Jangan memberikan tanda ceklist pada opsi rememberme pada saat Anda login ke situs friendster, sebab browser akan mengingat dan menyimpannya seca otomatis.

Jangan mengumbar informasi terlalu penting pada halaman profile, sebab bisa dijadikan media social engginering untuk pencurian account Anda.

Buatlah password yang tidak mudah ditebak oleh orang lain, password tersebut tentunya jangan berhubungan dengan isi profil friendster Anda. Gunakan kombinasi hurup, angka, dan karakter khusus tetapi jangan sampai lupa mengingatnya.

jika Anda menerapkan cara-cara di atas niscaya Anda tidak akan menjadi korban dari hacking friendster ^ ^.

Además, déjame comentarte (a título personal) que los años sucesivos al 98 fueron muy peculiares, con idas y venidas, con diversas emociones y un etcétera de eventos vividos. Como por ejemplo: recuerdo que alguna vez fui a visitarte en tu casa en el 99, año en el que perdí contacto contigo y con Talia.

Los motivos? Pues ni yo me explico el porqué deje de frecuentarlas (o trato de ensayar una disculpa), y quizás me iba dando cuenta que uds. y yo empezábamos a transitar por caminos distintos, conociendo gente diversa… y ampliando así nuestras redes de amistades por distintos lugares de Lima (y en tu caso, el mundo…)

Sin embargo, ya muy desaparecido del mapa y no es hasta el año 2004 en que me animé a hacer un conjunto de llamadas a amistades a las que había dejado de frecuentar. Y debo de confesar que ese fue el año, en el que me enteré de tu partida, pues llame a tu casa y me respondió uno de tus hermanos, o algún familiar tuyo y me dio esa noticia, sin mayor información… y sin mayor detalle (y de alguna forma u otra me alegré, pues recuerdo que en alguna ocasión me manifestaste el deseo de juntarte con tu familia en el extranjero, o algo así…).

Y ahora quizás te preguntes… muchas cosas como esta:

- ¿y ahora porque me escribe este tipo?

Y debo de responder que es una suerte de “deuda” conmigo mismo y con Uds. mis amig@s.

- ¿Y por qué?

Pues que soy un tipo que se volvió sumamente ingrato para con sus amig@s, que los dejo de frecuentar sin ni siquiera preguntar como les iba o que estaban haciendo.

Esta carta pudo haber sido escrita y enviada en el 2007, o en 2009… en cualquier momento… pero la semana que pasó empecé a buscar nuevamente a aquellas amistades que no veo hace varios años, a las que dejé de frecuentar. Y di contigo (fue increíble), pero aún no logro dar con Micaela o con Talia. Pues a pesar (creo) que están en Lima, no sé nada de ellas, y no las encuentro por ninguna red social de Internet (osea hi5, friendster, facebook, etc, etc).

Dari info yang kubaca di bukunya Yahya Kurniawan, ST tentang "Ngeblog dengan Wordpress itu Gampang", kudapatkan alamat untuk mendaftarkan alamat URL kita.  Untuk mendaftar di Google, buka alamat http://www.google.com/addurl atau http://www.google.co.id/intl/id/add_url.html.  Untuk mendaftar di Yahoo, buka alamat https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit.  Yahya Kurniawan juga memberikan alamat di MSN, tapi gagal kubuka.  Setelah kucari sendiri, akhirnya ditemukan juga alamat di MSN untuk mendaftarkan alamat URL kita, yaitu http://search.msn.com.sg/docs/submit.aspx

Promosi yang lain juga bisa dilakukan dengan bertukar alamat blog dengan teman-teman kita, sehingga blog kita bisa dikunjungi oleh pengunjung blog teman-teman kita yang sudah eksis sebelumnya.  Tapi ini belum kulakukan, nanti beberapa hari lagi pasti kulakukan :-)  Yang jelas sudah kuletakkan alamat blog ini di kotak shout up profil Friendsterku ;-)

Tepatnya Minggu 6-Juli-08, tiba-tiba ada panggilan dari nomor baru. Abakadabra, ternyata dari kawan yang sejak beberapa bulan terakhir aku telah lose contact dengan dia dikarenakan dia yang ganti nomor HP. Setelah cerita punya cerita, ternyata dia memperoleh fasilitas akses internet dikantornya. Jadi dia tau kalo blog ini ada, terus mungkin pernah juga ngakses akunku di flickr, soalnya dia bilang kalo dia ngeliat poto-potoku. Mendengar cerita yang kek gitu, responku biasa aja. Tinggal nge-google dengan keyword alisyah, nanti alamat blog ini akan bertengger di urutan pertama.

Yang membuat aku agak geger tapi ga ge-er adalah, dia ngakunya tau nomor HP aku dari internet. Okelah kalo dia tau blog ini, trus tau juga akun-ku di flickr, multiply, friendster dan juga alamat email aku. Tapi masa iya nomor hp juga ketemu di internet? Saking tidak percaya, aku langsung cari di google. Udah banyak keyword yang kugunakan, alisyah, alisyah jaya samosir, alisyah 0813, 08139675****, alisyah hp, alisyah nomor hp, phone alisyah, dan nomor alisyah. Tidak satupun yang menunjukkan nomor hp-ku, yang ketemu malah alamat email, alamat kampus, dan nomor telepon kampus.

Masalahnya sekarang, kawanku itu lupa link yang berisikan nomor hp-ku itu. Trus aku percaya aja ma dia, kalo dia tau nomor hp ku dari internet, walopun sekarang udah mulai ga percaya. Tapi benar enggaknya, anda ga usah ikutan nge-google nyari nomor ku. Ntar ketemu malah berabe, soalnya aku ga suka sebagai artis jadi-jadian.

Oia, buat kau kawan yang memang menemukan nomor HP ku di dunia maya ini, kau publish aja link-nya di bagian komen. Komen mu pasti tidak akan kuubah atau kuhapus, dan komen di blog ini juga tanpa moderasi. Trus kalo link-nya kau publish, biar minta maaf aku ama mu. Soalnya dari kemarin status mu di database otakku ku-update menjadi pembohong dari sebelumnya adalah parulok :)

Gimana sih caranya biar kita bisa dapet penghasilan di yuwie..?

Begini caranya..

Jadi, yuwie tuh akan membayar kita sesuai dengan view yang kita lakukan. Apa itu view, view itu sama seperti klik..misal kita upload foto, maka diitung 1 view. Lakuin aktivitas di control panel..tiap kliknya diitung 1 view juga. Nah, enaknya…klo misalnya ada orang lain yg liat profil, liat blog kita, liat foto kita..itu nanti diitung 1 view juga.

“trus viewnya nanti diapain..?”

Jawab :

Nanti viewnya tiap akhir bulan bakalan direkap sama perusahaan yuwie, trus bakalan dikaliin ma dolar, yg gw tau..tiap 200 view yg kita lakuin, itu sama dengan $0.01. nanti jumlah penghasilannya bisa kita liat setiap tanggal 15 nya di kotak EARNING.

“ko kecil ya duitnya..?”

Jawab :

Iya kecil klo lu lakuin sendiri…di yuwie kan kita dikasih kesempatan buat dapetin referral, missal lu punya referral 100 orang, nah..tiap view yg dilakuin ma 100 orang referral itu, kita juga kebagian untungnya.

Y ambil ja..misal tiap bulan 100 referral itu tiap orangnya lakuin 1000 view..itung-itungannya :

100 referral x 1000 view = 100.000 view

Klo dikaliin ma dolar jadi :

100.000 view dibagi 200 = 500 dikali 0.01 = $5

Lumayan kan dapet $5. Daripada di friendster…g dapet apa2..iya g.

“Apa…lu bilang penghasilannya masih kecil..?”

Jawab:

Ok…gw kasih yg lebih keren..

Diatas kan gw Cuma ngitung dari 100 referral atau dari level 1 ja..

Nah, kira2..100 referral yg kita ajak itu kira2 menurut lu mereka pengen punya penghasilan juga g..?

Y iyalah pasti pengen…

Klo gtu, mereka juga pasti nyari referral lagi kan..

Missal..100 referral tadi, misalnya masing-masing orangnya Cuma ngajak 10 orang ja..

100 referral dikali 10 = 1000 orang referral di level kedua lu..

Jadi duitnya..misal 1000 referral di level kedua tu masing2 tiap bulannya lakuin 1000 view juga..

1000 referral x 1000 view = 1.000.000 view..

Klo dikaliin ma dolarnya :

1000000 view dibagi 200 = 5000 dikali 0.01 = $50

Eit…$50 itu penghasilan lu dari level kedua, belum ditambah ma yg $5 dari level 1.

Jadi totalnya tiap bulan klo masing2 referral lakuin 1000 view lu bisa dapet $55. Lumayan kan…itu pun belum ditambah ma view yg kita lakuin. key

Level 1 = adalah orang yg kita ajak. Missal lu ngajak 100 orang..berarti 100 orang tu level 1 lu.

Level 2 = adalah semua orang yg diajak level 1 kita.

Level 3 = adalah semua orang yg diajak level 2 kita.

Level 10 = adalah semua orang yg diajak level 9 kita.

Jawab :

Salah satunya adalah komunitas pertemanan seperti Yuwie. Yuwie adalah salah satu komunitas pertemanan yang memberikan penghasilan tambahan bagi anggota/membernya. Cara kerja Yuwie tidaklah jauh berbeda dengan komunitas pertemanan seperti Friendster dan kelebihan dari Yuwie adalah mereka membayar kita jika kita aktif dalam komunitas tersebut. Kita hanya perlu melakukan seperti apa yang kita lakukan di Friendster, hanya dengan mencari teman, invite, browsing, kirim comment, lihat foto teman, lihat video teman, kirim email ke teman, dan lain sebagainya. Semua aktivitas yang kita lakukan tersebut akan dihitung oleh mesin statistik Yuwie dan kita akan dibayar memakai dollar. Tiap bulan berjalan, Yuwie memberikan standar pembayaran minimum per-1000 aktivitas/browsing kepada para membernya, dan berlaku bagi semua refferal member yang bersangkutan.

Dan jika teman2 kita melihat halaman kita, melihat foto2 kita, video kita, maka itupun dihitung dan ditambahkan ke dalam jumlah statistik aktivitas yang kita lakukan. Makin banyak statistik yang kita dapatkan baik dari kita pribadi maupun dari refferal kita, maka makin besar penghasilan yang akan kita peroleh.
