GABRIELLA CILMI – “Save the Lies”

After her phenomenal UK and Australia hit “Sweet About Me” which was featured at the advertisements of a deodorant that was shown across the world, Australian singer Gabriella Cilmi (pronounced CHILMI) is releasing her second single titled “Save The Lies”. The song is announced as a single through her website and is available for download starting the second week of August 2008. The single will be available via digital download and CD Single.

Gabriella, a 16 year-old from Melbourne, Australia first came to fame as she hit the #1 spot in the Australian Singles Charts earlier this year becoming the youngest singer ever to hit the #1 spot. She then followed a UK release of her first single “SWEET ABOUT ME” and went straight into the top 40 of the UK Singles Charts. The song started on a slow movement around the charts but eventually made it into the top 10 early in June. The singer who is now based in the UK is going for a full-promotional for the single in the United Kingdom this September.

The track which is taken from her debut album “LESSONS TO BE LEARNED” is incorporated with electronic beats and sort of a retro vibe driven into the melody. She maybe murmuring some of the parts of the song but I think if given the chance it can beat “Sweet about Me” in the chart positions in the UK Singles Charts.

Critics have acclaimed Cilmi’s voice comparable to that of troubled-singer AMY WINEHOUSE but we beg to disagree, there may be a little bit of comparison but nonetheless, Gabriella Cilmi is original on her own and you can definitely distinguish her voice from other singers and of course, she’s one of a kind for her age. Gabriella has a pure talent that is forced to be reckoned with.

Due le nuove entrate: la prima "No stress" è un simpatico pezzettino dance del francese Laurent Wolf, senza troppe pretese ma orecchiabile. La seconda il singolo della vincitrice di X-Factor Giusy Ferreri che ha una voce veramente notevole.

Per il resto novità in vetta con Jason Mraz che lascia la corona del primo posto a Gabriella Cilmi (a proposito di voci possenti), mentre sale di molto il nuovo pezzo di Caparezza e anche quello di Sebastien Tellier con un video che definire stralunato è poco. Ich mag Katie Melua. Ihre Musik spricht mich an, ihre Stimme hat etwas Bezauberndes (für mich). So freue ich mich immer wieder, wenn es etwas neues zu hören gibt von ihr.

So auch jüngst. Unter der Dusche. Das Badezimmerradio lief. (NICHT MIT MEINEM SENDER, EGAL.) Au ja, denke ich so bei mir. Bärenstark dieser Song. *Schauereiskaltüberdenrückenlaufend*

So weit, so gut.

Wenn ich nachhausekommenderweise einen Blick auf den von der Jugend genutzten Fernseher richte und dieser gerade Bildradio sein darf, sprich MTV oder VIVA ihre Clips abspulen, dann lerne ich innerhalb von vier Wochen bisweilen schon, dass diese oder jene Interpretin nun wirklich Rihanna ist mit ihrem Lied Umbrella.

Egal, heute war nicht die Analog-Glotze angesagt, heute sitzt die Jugendredaktion am PC und fragt mich, selber nicht unbedingt katiemeluamögend, aber um meine Vorliebe wissend, fragt mich also – wobei ich das Augenzwinkern nicht bemerke, aber es war vielleicht auch nicht da, fragt mich also, ob ich DAS HIER denn schon kenne.

Clickt auf Youtube. Und dann höre ich diesen Song wieder, zum zweiten Mal jetzt also. Woher weiß die Jugendredaktion, dass ICH dieses Lied super finde?

Findet DIE GANZE WELT denn diesen neuen Ohrwurm gut?

Und dann die Überraschung. Nix Katie Melua. Eine (für mich) unbekannte Künstlerin, wahrscheinlich noch nicht im Führerscheinalter, aber das spielt hier auch gar keine Rolle und soll deswegen auch nicht geschrieben sein, nur gelesen, so jetzt komme ich aber zum Ende, die Dame heißt Gabriella Cilmi und ihr Wahnsinnslied „Sweet about me“. Nicht des Sehens wegen (glaubt mir keiner, ist aber so). Des Hörens wegen. Der Stimme wegen.

Eintagsfliege? Hoffe ich mal nicht.

And I’ve chosen to start it off with Aussie bluzie singer Gabriella Cilmi’s “Sweet About Me”… introduced to me by T I M but brings me straight over to my amazing friend ‘Daisy’…

‘Cause there’s always lessons to be learned… right??

E'il nuovo fenomeno del pop mondiale, visto che il suo album d'esordio "Lessons to be learned" sta andando benissimo (meno che da noi, al solito), come il singolo di cui sopra. Ma la cosa più sorprendente, se vogliamo è che la Cilmi da tre anni (cioè da quando ne aveva 13!) scrive canzoni per la girlband panbritannica Girls Aloud. Ora dopo aver fatto da supporter a Mutya Buena e alle Sugarbabes, è pronta per volare da sola.

Ma la Cilmi è solo uno dei tanti artisti italiani o di origine italiana che vanno bene all'estero ma sono pressochè sconosciuti da  noi. Piccola carrellata (cliccate sui titoli). In Germania è famosissimo Nevio Passaro, di padre campano, vincitore un paio di anni fa di "Deutschland sucht den superstar”, versione teutonica di "Popstar". Scrive e canta rigorosamente in italiano (ma parla cinque lingue) e la sua "Amore per sempre" è stato un successo come anche "Firenze".

Un'altra figlia dei programi tipo X factor (che il futuro sia li?) è Claudia D'Addio, figlia di abruzzesi nata e cresciuta in Svizzera. Canta benissimo, ha una voce notevolissima che sta un pò fra la Pausini e Giorgia, è cresciuta ascoltando Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, Brandy Norwood e la stessa Giorgia  e passa dal pop rock alle canzoni più soft. Ascoltate "Identità" e "U cant't stop me"

C'è poi chi s'è trasferito direttamente oltreconfine pur essendo italianissimo. E'il caso di Marco Bocchino, che ha da poco pubblicato sul mercato polacco il singolo "Su quel giornale". Lo trovate anche sul suo myspace: un buon pop, gradevole all'ascolto. Come quello del bergamasco (di Albino) Michele Imberti, che alcuni mesi fa ha deciso di emigrare in Svezia. Sul suo myspace ci sono tutte le sue canzoni, fra cui la bellissima "Bla Bla", che parla di aborto.

La Svizzera ci regala anche il palermitano Piero Esteriore, il quale detiene due record: quello della peggior canzone passata negli ultimi anni all'Eurofestival ("Celebrate", zero punti nel 2004) e quello di aver sfasciato con la macchina la sede di un quotidiano che aveva definito"banchetto mafioso" la sua festa di compleanno. Qui il nuovo "Io vivo" e qui l'irruzione nella sede di Blick.

E' invece finito in Lettonia per lavorare ed è diventato una star della musica pop baltica , il sardo Roberto Meloni, tenore che ha vinto una locale edizione di "Popstar" e negli ultimi due anni ha rappresentato i baltici all'Eurofestival, con due formazioni diverse, Bonaparti.Lv e Pirates of the sea. Qui il brano "Questa notte" (lui è l'ultimo che esce). Sotto, "Sweet about me" di Gabriella Cilmi.

The problem is that she just sounds so very, terribly young. The 14-year-old's voice has clearly not matured. And at such a tender age that's not a problem per se, she just shouldn't be releasing tracks yet.

Compare that to fellow teens poplets who do, already, have strong, unique voices that are ready to jump into the recording studio. Like 15-year-old Miley:

And can there be any greater proof that this is more an exercise in extending a celebrity brand than establishing a music career — Ali's single had its premiere on People.com ... hardly a reputable music journal, is it?

Kudos to the video's stylist. Gabriella looks gorgeous and sexy without overstepping it. Although perhaps the number six "gridiron" outfit is a bit avant-garde for me.

Quinta-feira comprei o disco novo do Coldplay. "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends" com certeza foi o meu dinheiro mais mal gasto nessas últimas semanas. Agora eu entendo porque o pessoal do escritório odeia o Coldplay. Antes achava que "Ah, Santo de casa não faz milagre". Agora acho que todo mundo já tinha ouvido o disco novo, menos eu.

Mas... semana passada também comprei outro disco. Gabriella Cilmi. Ela é uma australiana de 16 anos, que faz o maior sucesso por aqui. E não é difícil entender o porquê.

Com uma batida bem anos 60, ela faz músicas muito gostosas de se ouvir. O single "Sweet About Me" é o máximo. Toca o tempo todo aqui. O resto do álbum foi uma surpresa agradável atrás da outra.

Confesso que não sabia o que esperar e fiquei muito feliz com o disco.

Το 2004 την ανακάλυψη ο Michael Parisi της Warner Music όταν σε ένα τοπικό φεστιβάλ στην Μελβούρνη τραγούδησε σε δική της εκδοχή το τραγούδι Jumpin Jack Flash των Rolling Stones. Από το 2005 σε ηλικία μόλις 14 ετών υπογράφει συμβόλαιο με την Αγγλική Island Records μέλος της Universal Music ενώ μόλις φέτος κυκλοφόρησε το ντεμπούτο studio album της.

To album της έχει βρεθεί σε top10 σε Αγγλία, Αυστραλία και Νέα Ζηλανδία ενώ το πρώτο single είναι το Sweet About Me το οποίο έχει ήδη ανέβει στο νούμερο 6 του UK Top20 ενώ εμείς το ακούμε ιδιαίτερα ευχάριστα στο ραδιόφωνο.

Australian born Gabriella actually was a supporter for Rufus Wainwright on his 2008 Australian tour.

Wikipedia lists Nina Simone and Led Zeppelin as inspirations to her music. "Sweet about me" is a soul rock/r'n'b song, so I guess that is what you get when you merge Nina Simone and Led Zeppeline in a 16-year-old.
