Flatliners & Inside GTA

Finally! Some decent GTA IV machinimas are being produced and I must say, they aren't half bad. The first (Flatliners) is a medical based comedy set in one of the hospitals around Liberty City. It's a little rough in sections, some voice acting could do with some work, but it did make me giggle sometimes :D

The second one (Inside GTA IV or "IGTA" as they call it) isn't a story based machinima as such, but is more of a "how to" or documentary of GTA 4 and how to machinimate using it. It does have it's funny moments though :D

Kid torched cars blames GTA

A teenager who torched three cars in Lyon, France, told police he was wanted to imitate scenes from the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) video game.

The 13-year-old schoolboy used petrol to set light to three vehicles after playing on the violent GTA 4: Liberty City game on his home PC.

Slight problem, GTA 4 isn't released for the home PC.

Is It Really Special Anymore?

It wasn't that long ago when a limited edition really said something about the caliber of the game being released. When I first started playing more games (admittedly not all that long ago), it was pretty rare to see a game get a special edition. Back then it was cool because it was infrequent, but now it is getting out of hand.

It's not so much the conventional limited edition that I have a problem with. Obviously, there are tons of really high-quality games that have come out recently or are coming out in the near future. I can definitely see why these games would have special editions, and I even think most of them deserve it. If it's a game I really like, I have absolutely no problem with dropping an extra ten or twenty bucks to get some extra content and really cool art book or behind the scenes DVD. But, when it gets to the point of doubling the price of a game, it starts to get ridiculous.

Halo 3 started the super limited edition trend with it's $130 Legendary Edition, which really only included a miniature Master Chief helmet as an extra compared to the $70 normal limited edition. Although touted as extremely limited, I have seen this edition too many times to count in stores, months after the release of the game and priced as low as $60. Obviously, the helmet wasn't as big a hit as it was intended to be.

After Halo 3 released, the extremely overpriced editions appeared to go by the wayside for a little while. Normal $70 or $80 special editions were still abundant, but it was hard to find something for more than that. Then Grand Theft Auto 4 came along with a $90 bundle, which is on the verge of an unreasonable amount to pay for a game. This seemed to sell much better than the Halo 3 Legendary Edition, and seems to have now sparked what I very hopefully call a fad for super limited editions.

I'm not saying that the extras that you get with these games aren't cool, but are they really necessary? In a pre-order deal from amazon.com, you can get Gears of War 2 free with the purchase of a Lancer replica, all for $140. In another amazon exclusive, you can shell out another $130 for the Survival Edition of Fallout 3. This edition includes an alarm clock that looks like the Pip-Boy 3000 along with everything else included with the standard limited edition. Along with those games, Mirror's Edge has a $130 edition and Dead Space has a $150 edition.

Who knows, if I had the funds available, I too might spring for a super expensive version of my favorite game. At this point, however, it seems just a little bit over-the-top and a lot overpriced. I suppose as long as people are buying them, the developers will continue to make them. What do you think?

Grand Theft Auto 4 Review

Rating: 9.5 Out of 10

GTA finally makes a run for the 360 and it brings what you like from GTA, improves it, and adds some more stuff to it. This game has great graphics and audio, and a nice full fledged character driven story. Liberty City in this game really feels alive with all of the people, cars, tours, you name it. The controls have been improved and the TV shows and radio channels are funny if you listen to some of them. The multiplayer works pretty good too. Who doesn't want to roam Liberty City in a 16 player online match? However, there is some visual glitches, the friendly AI can be dumb sometimes, and why can't I knock over really small trees? Overall, if you liked the GTA series, you will enjoy this game to its fullest.

Pros:

+ Superb character-driven story

+ Liberty City really does feel alive

+ Multiplayer modes that let 16 players go wild across the entire city

+ Genuinely funny radio and TV shows, comedy acts, and character dialogue

+ Controls are much improved over previous games

Cons:

- Occasional problems with friendly AI

- Some minor visual quirks

- Why can't I knock over small trees?

Wymagania sprzętowe gry GTA IV

Choć oficjalna data premiery wersji na PC najnowszego szlagieru studia Rockstar Games zapowiedziana jest dopiero na 18 listopada, już dziś możemy poznać wymagania sprzętowe tej gry. Warto zacząć zbierać na upgrade sprzętu, gdyż wymagania nie są małe.

Pisząc o wymaganiach, mamy oczywiście na myśli wersję do komputerów PC. Komfortową rozgrywkę ma zapewniać komputer zbudowany w oparciu o co najmniej dwurdzeniowy procesor (minimum Pentium D lub lepszy). Moc obliczeniowa centralnego układu powinna być wspierana przez 2 GB pamięci RAM (to oczywiście również minimum). Zainstalowanie gry na dysku twardym będzie wymagało aż 18 GB przestrzeni dyskowej. Co ciekawe, komputer nie musi pracować pod Vistą, wystarczy w zupełności Windows XP SP2.

Pierwsze obrazki z demonstracyjnych pokazów producentów gry nie pozostawiają złudzeń, że GTA 4 będzie wymagać dobrej grafiki. Karta powinna w pełni obsługiwać co najmniej DirectX 9 i musi być wyposażona w co najmniej 512 MB własnej, szybkiej pamięci RAM.

The official Games for Windows website has released the recommended system specs for the upcoming PC port of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV.

Grand Theft Auto IV PC will include an expanded multiplayer component, improved graphics, and a gameplay clip editing suite when it hits the PC on November 18.

Like I've said before, I try to stay away from these things where I get tagged by others to fill out a survey or something along those lines. However, like I believe I also said before, I'm a sucker for these things, so I will oblige.

But per It's A Bloggy Blog World policy, I will not be tagging anyone to complete this after me.

I'll start with a list of addictions Kimmers tagged me to complete.

Apparently, I'm supposed to do nothing more than list five things I'm addicted to. I'll leave out my long-established addiction to crack and my newfound Absinthe habit...

I don't know about the second part, but for the day I'm gonna get married someday with a supposed potential Mrs., I've actually thought about this. I think I'd like to see if we can space it out to be the exact halfway point between our birthdays, but the further halfway point away. For instance, if our birthdays are only a month apart, we won't set the date within that month, but rather five and a half months between the two birthdays.
