Plans, phone calls, housecleaning, paperwork. Some money has come in, and more will follow. I bought a banker's box for my work, and file folders. I am registered for the fall term.

The summer yawns and stretches. An eclipse looms. I have cut my hair short and can feel the night air on the back of my neck. My neighbours are talking on their balcony.

Last year I went with a brigade to a remote community in the department of Comayagua to help out with a health survey and a topographical study. The intention was to start a project that would eventually bring potable water to a community that has literally been left high and dry. There is no electricity and clean water is scarce, especially during the dry season. I helped out for about a week and ended up taking a lot of photos, some of which didn't turn out too bad. But then again, with the natural beauty and warm people that you find in the mountains in Honduras, it's easy to get off some great shots. Enjoy!

Like I said yesterday, the jury found Jerry Chase, right, guilty of second-degree murder after about an hour. Here's the story.

Jerry L. Chase killed his friend, Jonathan Dodds. He killed his “brother.”

So decided a 12-person jury Thursday morning after about an hour of deliberation in Chase’s second-degree murder trial. He was accused of brutally beating Dodds to death on June 1, 2007, at their home along Ocean Beach Road in rural Hoquiam.

“We, the jury, find Jerry Lee Chase guilty,” the clerk announced as Chase stood quietly in a plaid shirt, his hands folded at his waist.

The roommates referred to each other as “brother” and had shared the Ocean Beach Road home for about six months.

Chase told investigators they had shared laughs, dares, car trips and, on the night of May 31, 2007, the pair split two fifths of vodka and brandy, before going to bed.

At about 4 a.m., Chase rose up against Dodds and killed him in an altercation over a karaoke amplifier. Injuries indicated Dodds had been repeatedly kicked and stomped as he lay on the floor.

For the record: The spelling error toward the end was edited in, but they did leave my biblical reference.

And at least this trial is finished, unlike that past two trials I attended, which will have to be retried after hung juries. Take care all.
