MAX is Adobe's biggest, glitziest, most-cutting edge user conference event of the year, where they show off the tools and the vision that they're pouring their best efforts into. And it's where the cool kids hang out. It's the hipster Macromedia crowd, with Adobe's $$$ to spend. The Vegas show in '06 was particularly decadent. Someday I'll blog about the party at Rain. Though I'd be breaking the WHAM SAM policy (What Happens At MAX, Stays At MAX). It's easy to feel a little old amongst the sk8boarding Flex shredders. I have computers older than some of these people. But the vibe and the energy are a lot of fun. The technology is exciting. I get free drinks when people mistake me for Kevin Lynch. And after a long day in XMLand, I get treated to the vocal stylings of Richard Cheese. It is geek heaven. Man I'm gonna miss it.

MAX is where I first saw Adobe AIR, then called Apollo. Ditto for Mars technology, which is a XML-based file format for PDF rendering. Sound familiar? IDML for InDesign, XFL for Flash, Mars for PDF. To say that Adobe sees XML as the core of future publishing technology is the understatement of the year. To them, it's not Cousin Oliver, it's the whole damned Brady Bunch. And the ramifications are huge. These file formats will be even more revolutionary than what MP3 was to audio. No longer is content locked in a large, opaque formats. Anyone with the knowledge and a text editor can open, examine, and edit InDesign, Flash, and PDF content. Not that you would, but you could. More to the point, a developer could write an application to parse InDesign, Flash, and PDF content via XML. Oh wait, that already exists. It's called a browser.

"But," you say, "a browser doesn't have a tool panel like Flash, InDesign, and Acrobat. And a browser only works when you're connected to the internet." Right. I hate to get all Socratic in a blog with a candy-like logo, but you just answered your own question. Adobe AIR and Flex let developers write rich internet apps that work online or offline, with all the benefits of a browser, and a completely custom interface.

If this vision becomes reality, the Creative Suite will be exploded into a thousand rich internet applications. Each customized up the wazoo. All seamlessly fitting with each other because they all speak in XML. All connected back to the Enterprise Content Mothership, be it MarkLogic, XHive, or Joe Mama's XML Database. InDesign on your iPhone? No problem. Just deciding which flavor of "InDesign" might be the challenge. There will be hundreds.

Gotta go, there's a board meeting in 5 minutes. The cats are demo-ing a Rich Internet Litterbox.

PS : la tête de Nolia n'est pas bonne non plus ( merci Wow model Viewer, quand on importe un skin de perso depuis l'armurerie le visage est rarement le bon xD ). Je me disais aussi que j'avais plutôt le souvenir d'une gnomette à couettes roses... ^^

Arrisco dizer que o apelo tudo-em-um do Corel acaba prevalecendo em mercados menos desenvolvidos em detrimento de soluções mais especializadas como Indesign (diagramação), Illustrator (ilustração vetorial) e Acrobat. Agências, fornecedores, veículos, universidade e curso técnicos trabalham e ensinam o CorelDraw, criando um fenômeno em cadeia que dificulta iniciativas de mudar para o pacote Adobe, uma vez que se um mudasse, teria dificuldade em comunicar-se com o outro.

Mas a medida que o mercado cresce e amadurece, surge a necessidade de soluções mais dedicadas. Mesmo com dificuldades, algumas iniciativas de uma nova geração de profissionais está tentando rever esses conceitos enraizados em Belém. Já tem muita agência abandonando totalmente o CorelDraw e estamos conseguindo a cooperação de fornecedores e veículos.

Diante disso, meu amigo Vinícus Nussemeyer (ex-Paim Porto Alegre) e eu ensaimos um treinamento de Indesign entre os funcionários da agência que trabalhamos. Não aconteceu com a periodicidade e profundidade que gostaríamos, mas já serviu de ponta pé inicial para que outras pessoas descobrissem as vantagem dessa plataforma e se animassem a aprende-la. This week I installed, setup and connected 45 computers. The first 10 were fun, the next 10 were annoying, the rest was just work.

Then we tested aggressively before we deployed to the whole office, and when we felt we had a stable installed, we went for it. Turns out it wasn't so smooth.

After a couple 12+ hour days the problem turns out to be a third party plugin for indesign CS3! The problem is we have to have this certian plugin to function. So we've had some hard days this week.

Luckily we seem to be keeping our heads above water until we can get an update for our Plugin

How to Rotate an Text Box in InDesign

I have recently been working to familiarize myself with the publications program InDesign.

Though I am familiar with Publisher, I have found InDesign to be a bit more challenging.

One technique that I have managed to use successfully is rotating a text box, which I learned how to do while creating a vertical-style business card in class.  It can be tricky, but it is possible for even a beginner using these easy steps:

1. Select the text box

2. Select your point of reference on the Control pallet

3. Select the rotate tool

4. Move your Rotate Tool away from the reference point (the farther the better)

5. Drag the tool in the direction you want your item to rotate.

Here's a Hint:  If you want to rotate your object 45% or a multiple of 45%, hold down shift as you use the Rotate Tool.

CorelDraw X3 + InDesign!

Безспорно Text Wraps е сред най-важните атрибути при оформянето в InDesign.
Често хората работили с QuarkXPress (там тази функция се казва Runarounds) или други подобни програми веднага ще попитат къде е „нещото като Text Wraps”, дори и на мен, която преди това бях работила с PageMaker ми беше трудно да „открия” всички неща и да ги приспособя към собствените си нужди опциите на Text Wraps. Ето още няколко „превода” от QuarkXPress – InDesign: Text Box е Text Frame, Item е Object, Get Text е Place. Но нека да оставим превода, все пак ако сте запознат с концепцията всичко би ви било доста по-лесно, а ако не сте няма да ви е трудно да я усвоите.

Най-добре да пристъпим към упражнението.
За да ви е най-удобно можете да извикате палитрата Text Wrap така: Window menu > Text Wrap (ALT+CTR +W). Аз лично рядко я махам. На картинката съм показала как обикновено си държа най-често използваните инструменти.

Изеберете обекта, който ще обграждаме. Аз взимам някава произволна jpg снимка. Можете да я вмъкнете в документа с File>Place, разбира се за целта има няколко начина и аз като по-мързелива просто си я придърпах от фотошопа. Избрах някакъв текст. (за по-лесно ще използвам тези от упражнението за страниране).

В прозорчето на Text Wrap (по-долу ще пиша само палитрата) има общо пет бутончета, намиращи се в горния край там където е наименованието „Text Wrap” на палитрата. Ако съм честна иконите и поясненията, които излизат като се застане върху тях с мишката биха ви ориентирали доста добре. Подобно на word и тук има различни начини за разполагане на текста.

По подразбиране (освен ако нещо не е променено по настройките или стиловете) Text Wrap е зададен да излиза на „no text wrap”, което означава, че текстът ще се разлива върху картинката.

Ако искате текста да се разполага равномерно около обекта то изберете бутончето - "Wrap Around Bounding Box." (второто от ляво на дясно), като преди това сте маркирали вашият обект. Задавайки му числа ще определите отстоянието на текста от обекта. Имайте предвид, че текста ще се разположи сякаш обекта е „кутийка” без значение дали той е с рамка, без, дали е изрязан по някакъв начин..

Ако искате Text Wrap да се разполага „разчупено” по обекта. Тогава ще използвате третото бутонче от от ляво на дясно или “Wrap around object shape”. Тук отново можете да варирате в разстоянието, в случая кръга е проста фигура и е нужно да зададете само за едно.

Разбира се простите фигури – квадрат, окръжност, триъгълни или каквато е да е друга, около която текста се разполага равномерно не са достатъчни, за да имаме добри резултати при работата си с индизайн. Или казано по друг начин, когато фигурата не е рамка.
Първо трябва да се извика подпалитрата „скрити опции”, която можете да извикате от малката стрелка в десния горен ъгъл.


Тук ще видите различни опции. По експериментирайте – така най-добре ще усетите коя за какво служи. Много полезна е опцията с която се използват пътечките.


Следващата икона е „Jump Object”, което простичко казано е да се заобиколи обекта. Разликата между тази и следващата опция че на първата текста продължава под картинката, а на втората продължава на следващата колона /страница/.

So how do we do this? Let me say it is a simple procedure to save an Adobe InDesign file to a lower version (or downgrade the version). All what you have to do is goto InDesign File menu and click on Export … option. Export… dialogue box will be displayed. Click on Save as type drop down menu and select InDesign Interchange (.inx) file format. Select your location and save the file. You can transfer the saved .inx file to the person who has the lower version of Adobe InDesign.

Important : The receiver of the file should have the latest updates of the particular Adobe InDesign to get the maximum befit of InDesign Interchange (.inx) file format . Let say receiver has InDesign CS2, then the he/she should have the latest updates for InDesign CS2. If you are wondering how to get them, you can always download Adobe InDesign updates free for a relevant Adobe® InDesign® version by clicking following links.

How to make that triangle perfect

So you may know by now that you can make the perfect square or circle by holind down the Shift key while you drag the mouse. But sometimes, you just need a triangle.

Tips from David Blatner:

Method #1

Instead of drawing with a “triangle tool,” just draw out any shape (even just an open path) on your page and choose Object > Convert Shape > Triangle. Yes, that’s yet another menu item that most users don’t even see, no matter how long they’ve been using the program. When you do this, you typically get an isosceles triangle (where only two sides are the same length). To get an equilateral triangle, start off with a square or circle before converting.

Method #2

Here’s another way to get a triangle (this one even works way back in InDesign CS!): Use the Polygon tool (which is hiding under the normal frame tools). Double-click the Polygon tool in the Tools panel to open its options dialog box. Set it to 3 sides and a Star Inset to 0% and you’ve just defined a triangle. Click OK and drag the cursor out to create a triangle. Or hold down the Shift key while dragging to make a perfect, 60-degree-per-angle, triangle every time.

Method #3

In a right-angled triangle (or “right triangle”), two lines in the triangle are perpendicular (that is, they form a 90-degree angle). How best to form one of those? I like to draw a rectangle, switch to the Pen tool (press P), then click on one corner. When you click on a corner point with the Pen tool, it deletes just that one point, leaving the other three.

Wow I've got to give it up for Advertising Agency: Mayo DRAFT FCB of Lima, Peru they really went in a new direction as far as advertising goes for a pharmaceuticals go. Dolocordalan cream I'm still not sure what it is exactly but the artwork for the advertisements is awesome, have a look.

All I've got to say is OUCH!

I suppose there is something missing here from all the ads, information! This product needs a little explaining, don't get me wrong I love the artwork but what about the product, I have no idea what it is and there isn't even a website.
