Sounds like a legendary film in the making! The forthcoming documentary film, “It Might Get Loud,” is already generating considerable buzz among music fans and guitar players...

First screened in May at the Cannes Film Festival, the movie officially premieres this September at the Toronto International Film Festival.

According to a press release, the movie “revolves around a singular day when Jimmy Page, the Edge, and Jack White first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach, and play.”

Led Zeppelin's Page, U2's the Edge and White, leader of the White Stripes and the Raconteurs, were chosen for their impact across three different generations - from Page's 1960s days as a session musician and a member of the Yardbirds into the Edge's unique sound developed in the '80s through White's current work.

The film - which was directed by Davis Guggenheim (who won an Academy Award for his direction of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”) - is said to “capture the guitarists as each explains and demonstrates how he changed the sound of the electric guitar to suit his own distinctive musical style.”

In one scene, as the guitarists banter with one another about their influences, Page pulls out a Link Wray album, the Edge pulls out an album by the Sex Pistols, and White pulls out an album by the Flat Duo Jets.

We wonder if besides initerviews, the film also shows rare or never-seen-before archive footage of Page, White and The Edge playing with their respective bands - that would be simply amazing...but no further info about the film content as of yet.

No word yet on whether the film will see a full-fledged theatrical release, but we eagerly await its release!

Does the White Stripes leader deserve to be one of the three chosen in a documentary about the iconic influence of electric guitar?

In the new documentary, "It Might Get Loud," three guitarists — Jimmy Page (70s), The Edge (80s), and Jack White (present... ) — were each chosen to represent a generation.

Could there have been another choice to represent the younger generation of guitar?

Given the way the film is set up, I would have to say that the answer is no. Jack White is definitely a creative contemporary force to be reckoned with nowadays. All together, however, I would have to say Jack White stands beneath them both in the level of talent, songwriting, and overall sound.

I love Jack White's playing but we are talking about Jimmy Page and the Edge here. Jack White still has some ground to cover in order to catch up to them.

And don't you think it obvious that Jack White was probably influenced by Jimmy Page?! Instead, White pulls out a Flat Duo Jets album for his main influence, Page pulls out a Link Wray album, the Edge pulls out an album by the Sex Pistols.

World premiere of the movie will be at the 33rd annual Toronto International Film Festival - which runs September 4th thru 13th 2008. All three musicians will attend the premiere.

Valitettavasti en itse sattunut olemaan paikalla, mutta kiitos Radio YLE Ykkösen, sain kuulla suorana lähetyksenä Helsingin Juhlaviikkoihin kuuluvan Huvila-teltassa järjestetyn konsertin, jossa sai kantaesityksensä Eero Hämeenniemen uusi teos "Sade ja punainen maa". Säästääkseni itseäni turhalta selittelemiseltä, tässä suoraan kopioitu laina YLEn nettisivuilta:

Torstaina 28.8.2008 klo 19.03-21.40

Torstai-illan suorassa konserttiradioinnissa kuullaan uutta musiikkia Eero Hämeenniemeltä. Huvila-teltan konsertti tarjoaa vahvoja elämyksiä eteläintialaisen klassisen eli karnaattisen musiikin sekä eurooppalaisen ja intialaisen taidemusiikin kohtaamisten parissa.

Ennakkoluuloton suomalainen uuden musiikin kärkiorkesteri kohtaa eteläintialaisen karnaattisen musiikin merkittävimpiä taiteilijoita. Suorassa lähetyksessä Huvila-teltasta kuullaan kantaesityksenä Eero Hämeenniemen uusi teos Sade ja punainen maa. Laulusolistina esiintyy eteläintialaisen karnaattisen musiikin tämän hetken tärkein edustaja Bombay Jayashri Ramnath. Orkesterina on John Storgårdsin johtama Avanti! vahvistettuna intialaisilla lyömäsoittajilla. Sävellyksen perustana on viisi ikivanhaa tamilinkielistä rakkausrunoa. Konsertin alkupuolella Jayashri soittajineen esittää eteläintialaista karnaattista musiikkia.

Bombay Jayashri, laulu
Pungulam Subramaniam, mridangam-rumpu
Dr. S. Karthick, ghatam-saviruukku
Minna Pensola, viulu
Heikki Nikula, bassoklarinetti
Avanti!

When I saw the Opening Ceremony of Beijing Olympic 2008, I think that it will be hard for the next host of Olympic to create a more spectacular show than this one. The magnificent pyrotechnic, astonishing special effect and colossal performance create a wonderful 3 hours of show. I was thinking that this show will be remembered for decade as a brilliant masterpiece. Unfortunately, just few days after the ceremony I found out that some part of the ceremony were faked. The fireworks that astonish the television viewer was nothing more than a compilation of works created both during the show and during the rehearsal, while the song sung in the opening ceremony was actually a lip-synched because the real singer was considered too ugly to perform the song. This is not right and ethically incorrect. As a firework the spark is faded in seconds, I am disappointed and I think that Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony is not something very special to remember for. Let's hope that the Great Britain will perform something genuine for the opening ceremony, which of course will be better than 2008 Olympic.

Update: I watched the closing ceremony of the beijing olympics, it was awesome. yeah, at the point that David Beckham and Jimmy Page entered the bird nest. to be honest I prefer watching Jimmy Page playing with his guitar for full 3 hours than watching hundreds or thousand of people marching,or wired and attached into a giant globe. well that is my own taste. some says that Beijing Olympic is a priceless moment for product made in china product. well, I guess they are correct. in my misanthropical words: compare a Sony product with some MIC products you can think of, and decide what you choose. Again, it's just my opinion, no need to be hurt or ban this blog please.

A pergunta então é: a essa altura do campeonato, dá pra ser over the top?

Unfortunately for Zep fans, the Guitar God didn't perform with his famous band mates, but with Pop Idol popstar Fiona Lewis, in a rendition of Led Zeppelin's classic 'Whole Lotta Love'. The duo, performing on a stage formed at the top of a red double-decker bus, was then joined by Dave Beckham, who kicked a ball to the surrounding crowd.

This bizarre performance was one of the highlights of the closing ceremony for the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

With rumours of a full Led Zeppelin reunion tour still unconfirmed, it was a rare opportunity to see good old Jimmy Page rocking out!

Did anyone catch the Olympics Closing Ceremonies? I only came in towards the end, but, man, what a frightening sight. Specifically the performance of Leona Lewis with Jimmy Page. Seriously, what?

Now, I get that London would want to be represented by some of their most iconic faces and sounds. According to the broadcast, Leona Lewis has topped the charts in some 25 countires, so it is logical for her to be hidden within that mock double-decker bus. And Jimmy Page is a rock hero, so no explanation is even needed.

The execution, however, was awful. Leona Lewis sounded terrible and, although he can still play like nobody's business, Page looked like an old guy trying to rock out too hard. They both appeared and sounded incredibly uncomfortable there upon the world's stage.

But, really, the biggest blight on the entire performance was the song. What the hell does "Whole Lotta Love" have to do with the Olympic games? The song is easly a glorified ode to Robert Plant's manly parts--my mind does not exactly reside in the gutter, here. "I'm gonna give you every inch of my love." Really, what do you think that's about? Trading a baton in a relay race? I think not.

The inclusion of David Beckham kicking the soccer ball was the only thing that seemed to make sense (y'know, the Olympics are about sports). Otherwise the entire number felt like something on par with the Grammys. There was lots of flash, an odd team-up and it felt like little more than a ratings grab. Hopefully the 2012 Opening Ceremonies will get their inspiration elsewhere.

Much like Michelle Obama, I am proud of my country for the first time (almost) in my adult life, as we enter a time of hope. No, not Gordon Brown. Not even really Boris Johnson. I'm talking about the Olympics 2012! After enduring the Beijing Olympics for the past few weeks, full of North Korean-style routines, outright lies, and press controls, the official London takeover show was an inspirational tribute to western freedoms - and the western sense of fun!

What could be better than one of Britain's best loved rock stars, Jimmy Page, accompanying Britain's hottest new singing star, Leona Lewis, to the classic tune Whole Lotta Love? And then David Beckham, the world's favourite football star, kicking out a football into the crowd as a symbol of global athleticism coming to London?

Last night may have been the best night ever for me.

At least sports wise.

Within a span of three hours I watched a Dodgers-Phillies baseball game, Bills-Colts football game and the Olympic Games closing ceremony.

Life could not get any better than that. I watched the first two games at a sports bar in south Reno on giant side-by-side screens. Heaven.

I ordered a glass of white wine to extend my viewing pleasure experience even more.

Afterwards, I watched the closing ceremony on a small TV at home, but hey, I still got to see it….

By the way what was the deal with Leona Lewis’ mic? Couldn’t that have been checked beforehand? Or even during the performance? Anywhere during….

And poor Jimmy Page, age has caught up with him. Still is a badass, but the gray hair – sad. On the other hand, getting older is now somewhat fashionable – just ask Madonna.

Every two years I, along with millions of other Americans make a point of watching the Games. I feel as if I am a part of something special, a worldwide camaraderie.

I don’t want to be somewhere the next day and hear, ‘do you see Michael Phelps last night?’ and not know what that person is talking about.

I’ve always viewed the athletes’ bodies as works of art. It’s the artist in me; I can’t help it. It’s art in motion.

And of course, the best example of this point I think would have to be Michael Phelps.

I emailed this picture to my mother when I stumbled across it. It’s beautiful – I mean really look at it. The veins in the arms, the muscles…. not in a sexual way, but view his body as art for a moment.

This is what I think an athlete should look like. What’s even more amazing to me is we all (basically) have that body too.

I was also mesmerized by the divers’ bodies.

But what I could identify with the most was the women’s gymnastics team. Yes, when I was younger I wanted to be next Mary Lou Retton. (Shows my age huh?)

I learned the vault, bars, floor and balance beam. I enjoyed the floor the most, I think because I was on flat ground the entire time!

Balance beam scared the crap out of me since it’s only like three inches wide. I liked the vault, but you need to be careful to make sure you hit your mark – all while you’re still running.

I didn’t get far in my training, I couldn’t reach the high bar, so my parents and I decided I should quit.

And since I already touched on the ’84 Olympics – what was the deal with all the commentators coming from that specific Games?

Rowdy Gaines (who I don’t remember), Dwight Stone, Tim Daggett… stop it!

And does anyone know what happened to Mary Decker? It’s the only thing I think of when I watch any women’s track events.

And my last point from the ’84 Olympics, (and this may be the most amazing thing of all), my parents still have a working RCA VCR from that year! We bought SPECIFICALLY so my dad could record the Olympics. It cost us $600. But it still works.

Guess some things do get 'better' with age.

He must have been paid SO MUCH MONEY to play the closing ceremony in China. That was incredibly embarassing watching him shred to some superstar singer I've never heard of.

Jimmy, 'Please Read the Letter'. We want to see you make new music, show us who you are now, besides a an aging rocker riding a rickety bus that was absolutely dwarfed by the Chinese show. Maybe it wasn't your fault, maybe I should be blasting the committee/choreographers who came up with that piece of crap.

I will now expunge the memory from my mind, and put 'Raising Sand' on the stereo, real loud.

I hope to see Robert Plant and Allison Kraus at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in SF, which should completely erase this pathetic display from my mind.

He shoulda played atop the Memory Tower. All I'm sayin'.

Last night while watching a bit of the closing ceremonies a white haired Jimmy Page who looked like a founding father with his hair in a pony tail was on a stage with British pop sensation Leona Lewis. I could not believe my ears when he started rocking the Whole Lotta Love intro and Lewis started singing. It was horrible, Page is a guitar legend and a rock icon and here he is playing one of Led Zeppelin's celebrated songs with a singer who will have zero staying power. It reminded me of Page's inexplicable decision to allow PDiddy to sample the hook from Kashmir in a song for the Godzilla soundtrack.

Why are you doing this Jimmy? By appearing with artists beneath your legendary status you are diminishing Led Zeppelin's legacy and you are looking like a fool doing it.

On tracks like "Black Dog," "Misty Mountain Hop," and "Rock and Roll," the combination of Robert Plant's banshee wails and Jimmy Page's frenetic guitar playing forever altered the stylistic bent of hard rock music. And the foreboding "When the Levee Breaks" demonstrated that Zeppelin could indeed play the blues fairly straight if they so desired. Still, everything here ultimately took a back seat to the album's (and, ultimately, the band's) magnum opus--the expertly constructed and deftly executed classic, "Stairway to Heaven." --Billy Altman

Jimmy Page was a top London studio guitarist before he got rich and famous as the musical leader of Led Zeppelin. The group's fourth--and arguably their finest--album is as much a tribute to his technique as a monument to his versatility. Page produced the album, co-wrote all eight songs, and played mandolin as well as all the guitars. Musically, this 1971 disc ranges from acoustic English folke ("Goin' to California" and "The Battle of Evermore," the latter featuring the late Fairport Convention frontwoman Sandy Denny) to bone-crushing, bluesy riff-slinging. On the album's centerpiece, "Stairway to Heaven," these light and dark strains are dramatically intertwined. The chiming "Four Sticks" aside, it's the Little Richard-inspired "Rock and Roll" and the tricky time changes--a Zeppelin trademark--of the fast-and-furious "Black Dog" that elevate this album into more than just a bustle in aspiring guitarists' hedgerows. --Don Waller 2005 Japanese standard jewel case pressing of Led Zeppelin's 1971 album. Features the same tracks and mastering as the US edition but includes an OBI and Japanese/English insert. Warner. 2005.

Drummer Jason Bonham told a classic rock radio station that:

"I've been over [to England] a couple of times. I've been working with Jimmy (Page) and John Paul (Jones) and trying to do just do some new material and some writing. I don't know what it will be, but it will be something."

I don't know who's singing but it would be blasphemy if these musicians went on as Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant. Some Zeppelin traditionalists think there should be no continuation of Zep without Jason's father, John. For me, as a big Zeppelin fan, it's Plant or nothing. No one should fill in for him.

The U.K.'s short performance at the Olympics closing ceremony, to signify their hosting of the 2012 games, was a letdown compared to China's over-the-top spectacle of colors, sound, and choreography.

A double-decker bus lamely became a dull London skyscape, and then Leone Lewis began to sing "Whole Lotta Love" with Jimmy Page. Page's guitar seemed dubbed, and you can hardly hear the distinct rock riff. Leona's voice was clear and sharp, but seemingly lip-synching; which is strange because this song was never recorded before. Then Jimmy's classic guitar lead popped in and sounded all-of-a-sudden loud and sharp, like an intruder. Yes, it was perfect, note-for-note — brilliant, really — but, again, it seemed dubbed. Jimmy rocked there like a geezer with a gray pony-tail playing air guitar. It was weird. The whole thing seemed like an out-of-date P.T. Barnum stunt.

This can't be our last image of Jimmy Page on-stage! Now you feel as if he has to go on tour.

BTW< most of the YouTube videos of the performance have been taken down with a message " This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by a third party." Keep trying, however, videos keep on popping up and taken down.

Here's a sample of one still up, but not the greatest quality:

O site oficial do nadador é interessante: http://www.michaelphelps.com/2004/english.html

Usain Bolt - Três medalhas de ouro, três recordes mundiais. O maior velocista. O homem mais rápido do mundo.

Opa! Mais pipoca?

Sim!

Fora o show.
