You see... I've turned into a degenerate, and I don't mean Ellen. Once in a while, you're watching television, and some news magazine show comes on and it's about some poor soul who was mistaken for a criminal, convicted though innocent, and sent to prison.

Seriously, I worry about these things.

Why?

Have you any idea what the 'Fracas Stuff' folder on the fraccy hard drive looks like?

Oh sure you do.

Do you realize that I have dozens of images of (nearly) bare boobs, sexy lips, sexy legs, half-naked men, food that looks like penises, boobs, butts and vaginas, as well as other assorted photos that are anything but innocent?

I have photos on there that would surely convince any cop-type dude sent to raid the fraccy home, that I am dangerous.

And I don't mean in that good, Kardinal Offishall/Akon Dangerous way, I mean in that who the heck has pictures that whacked on their hard drive unless they're a little fracced kind of way.

So, though the loquat boobies in the folder probably wouldn't raise an eyebrow, how exactly, would I 'splain this?

What about the fact that this photo somehow seemed like one I should keep for use in a post featuring a penile potato?

Because scanning the fraccy folder, this little ole Mole Rat just kept shouting out at me and frankly, I couldn't think of a single other recipe that belonged in this Potato Porn episode of Friday Food Porn.

Southern Food Potato SKINS

• 1 large baking potato
• black pepper
• 1 tablespoon chopped green onion
• butter flavor nonstick spray or melted butter
• seasoned salt
• 2 tablespoons sour cream regular or reduced fat

Remove from broiler and spread inside of each potato with 1 tablespoon of sour cream. Serve warm.

Maybe that's why I feel so at home here. Please don't 'rat' me out to those cop-type dudes. Or at least... warn me first so I can hide the evidence.

Je n’imaginais pas non plus que derrière ce tour des Etats-Unis bras dessus bras dessous avec Kanye West se cachait ce superbe joyau de rhythm’n blues éclectique qu’est Shine. Vu que je la découvrais pour la première fois avec cet album, je n’étais pas au bout de mes surprises. Dès le début de l’opus, j’entends Estelle rapper sur le dernier couplet de « Wait A Minute (Just A Touch) », une autre production du leader des Black Eyed Peas. Dans ma tête, la comparaison avec Missy Elliott devient évidente mais pas pour longtemps. Lorsque je me surprends à apprécier grandement ses mariages réussis entre vibe reggae et rythmes urbains, en particulier sur « No Substitute Love » (commençant par un clin d’œil à George Michael) et « Magnificient » feat Kardinal Offishall (produit par Mark Ronson), je comprends mieux pourquoi Wyclef Jean lui a légué deux productions. La londonienne doit probablement lui rappeler Lauryn Hill, puisque elle est capable de jongler entre rap, r&b et reggae/ragga avec une adresse innée. Ou alors Mary J Blige, parce qu’elle allie hip-hop et soul avec souveraineté, on en retrouve des éléments de comparaison sur les parties groove 90s de « So Much Out The Way » (la seconde prod de Wyclef et son cousin Jerry "Wonder" Duplessis) et le soulful « In The Rain » qui me fait penser à du 9th Wonder avec plus d’entrain.

Ne cherchez de pas de ballades romantiques ou bucoliques, j'aime autant vous le dire tout de suite, il n’y en a pas. Cool ! pour une fois que l’on peut se savourer un album de r&b sans down-tempos à la soupe de rose aux textes naïfs. À la place, on a droit à des touches rétro récurrentes aux accents gospel, entre discrets samples de voix pitchées en fond et les chœurs de John Legend (« More Than Friends »). Estelle se permet même de poser le pied dans la Nusoul sans impertinence grâce au merveilleux « Back In Love ». L’anglaise est très bien entourée, on l’avait remarqué à la réalisation, mais niveau figurations, c’est la grande classe. Mis à part Kanye West, il y a bien naturellement John Legend sur le fantastique duo « You Are » et le Gnarls Barkley Cee Lo sur « Pretty (Love Me) » produit par Jack Splash. Après ces collaborations très soul music, pourvu que Swizz Beatz ne gâche et ne tâche pas la sortie. Heureusement que non, il sort le grand jeu (si si je vous assure) sur la chanson éponyme « Shine », un morceau dancefloor à mi-chemin entre 2-Step et r&b, mi-rap, mi-chant qui achève l’album. 

Y a pas photo, tout me plaît sur ce disque. Shine est un album de r&b ‘à la cainri’ avec un charme et une élégance typiquement british avec ce qu’il faut de reggae pour la touche cosmopolite relative à la scène urbaine londonienne. Pour l’instant, c’est pour moi l’album r&b féminin de l’année 2008, à moins qu’un classique du genre vienne chambouler ma hiérarchie de préférences.
