Aparentemente, será lançado um vídeo mostrando as intimidades (não pegue o sentido mais profundo da palavra) da banda, e até os anônimos da família Followill serão apresentados aos fãs dos Kings.

Only By The Night será lançado com 11 músicas, no dia 19 desse mês - na Alemanha e na Finlândia. Os lançamentos continuam na semana seguinte, nos Estados Unidos e Reino Unido. Talvez o disco chegue ao Brasil na mesma semana, pela Sony BGM. Sua capa será a seguinte:

I wasn't a huge fan of their last album but loved everything they did before that. So I'm a little nervous about this upcoming release, entitled Only By The Night, which will hit stores on September 23. The video is for the song "Sex on Fire", which is a pretty decent song. Hopefully the album is good. I have this thing where I have really high expectations for bands that I like, so I am constantly disappointed by their new material. For example, it's taking me awhile to get into the new Bloc Party and Of Montreal albums. Hopefully, the new Kings of Leon will be an instant winner.

I think no. 8 is an interesting choice. I will never forget sharing a limo with Barry Gibb's wife from FLL to MIA airport, almost missing our flight back to Germany because we thought it was waaaay cooler to go in the limo than the family car. I love the BeeGees. And the Beatles, Rolling Stones and the Who.
Seems like Oasis and myself might actually have something in common.

As for myself, I wouldn't want to make a choice yet, on the greatest bands of all time - simply, because I feel I need to listen to so many more artists named in music history.
I think the new Kings of Leon tracks sound absolutely f***ing amazing. And I just stumbled across these guys

Coldplay lead Q award nominations

Coldplay's Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends is up for an award

Coldplay lead the nominations for this year's Q magazine awards with four nods, it has been announced.

The band, led by singer Chris Martin, are up for awards including best album and best act in the world today.

Vampire Weekend and The Ting Tings have three nods each, while Kings of Leon, Nick Cave and The Last Shadow Puppets are all up for two.

The annual ceremony will be held on 6 October at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London's Park Lane.

Both nominees and winners are voted for by the magazine's readers.

New acts

As well as being nominated for best act in the world and best album - for Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends - Coldplay are also up for best track and best video for their song Violet Hill.

Vampire Weekend are up for best new act, best video - for A-Punk - and best album for their eponymous debut.

The Ting Tings are also up for best new act as well as best track and best video for That's Not My Name.

In the best album category, Vampire Weekend and Coldplay are up against The Last Shadow Puppets' The Age of the Understatement and Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

The album list is made up by Fleet Foxes with their eponymous album.

Day 1

1st September: The Mirimar Disaster - Volumes

Give it a brief glance and you could be forgiven for thinking that that's the album cover for We Are the Romans, and the Mirimar Disaster have more than just that in common with Botch.

I've got to admit, I wasn't really going to give this one a look in, having grown weary of the continuously massive claims purported by the likes of Kerrang! about the next brilliant thing to come out of the UK, but having read one of my Sonic Dice colleague's review of the album (a flawless victory with 6/6) my interest was piqued and I headed to their Myspace, only to be very, very impressed.

It's sounding heavy and bludgoning, in a similar vibe to the aforementioned Botch, and that's just the way we fucking like it.

9th September: United Nations - United Nations

I should imagine that the majority of people who buy this album will be buying on the strength of one name alone - being the supergroup as seemingly spearheaded by one Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw fame.

Whilst rumours abound about a possible new Glassjaw record, Palumbo has put that signature voice to good use, alongside the prestigious talent of Converge's drummer Ben Koller and Geoff Rickly of Thursday, to create an absolute nuclear bomb of an album.

A full stream of the work can be found here, and it's certainly a preview that has left me wanting the real deal in my hands upon release day.

8th September: Jesu - Why Are We Not Perfect?

Jesu are one of those sonically massive bands that take a lot of time and patience to appreciate, unlike more popular contemporaries such as ISIS and Neurosis. Indeed, the title for Justin Broaderick's new EP is an interesting step in itself - perhaps suggesting an undercurrent of self questioning in Broaderick's project given the fickleness of his fans (anyone I've met who likes the project are all of the opinion that the Silver EP was shit).

Whilst it's not a massive offering from Broaderick, it's good to see the Jesu name on release schedules again and I look forward to hearing what this follow up to 2007's well receieved Conquerer sounds like. If it's anything like the gut-wrenching track Friends Are Evil' from '05's self titled release, then it's a guaranteed barrel of laughs.

12th September: Metallica - Death Magnetic

I severely doubt you'll need to look out for the arrival of this album, as the internet and popular music media is set to collapse under the weighty promises of this album.

Months of delicate preparation and carefully scheduled media announcements have meant that, despite a few years ago Metallica being all but dead with St Anger, millions of metal heads are already popping a boner with this next offering, and if you haven't heard about it then you simply must be living in a battery (ha).

Of course, just like St Anger, whether it's shit or not is negligible - this will be the biggest selling metal record of '08, without a doubt, so let's see if it's got the music to back the sales.

22nd September: Kings of Leon - Only By the Night

Surprising pretty much everyone when they released Because of the Times, with its fantastic leading single and overall quality, Kings of Leon certainly stuck a collective finger up at the trendsetters that argued over what their best album was.

Truthfully, I've never been too infatuated with Kings of Leon, although their early albums certainly spawned some cracking singles, and in the case of 'The Bucket' a brilliantly realised video. But, give them their due they are a band who have begun to experiment with their comfort zones, and I'm quite looking forward to hearing what this next release is set to sound like, especially considering how quickly it's taken them to put together. Will it be another step forward, or standing stock still? We'll see.

22nd September: Mogwai - The Hawk Is Howling

There was a time when I didn't like Mogwai. Of course, having grown a bit older and wiser I've come to fall in love with the majority of their back catalogue, from the cult-like Young Team (not my favourite) and the underdog Happy Songs for Happy People (one of my favourites).

So there's no doubting how excited I am for this release. Batcat, the EP that precedes this album (out September 8th) is a slice of demonically heavy rock that genuinely unsettles, especially when paired with its video, and if that is a sign to come then I can't wait to cuddle up to The Hawk is Howling.

Reports from live shows have been extremely positive, and have also suggested that Batcat's heavier turn is one that is exacerbated on the new album. What a way to close September.

Just a quick note to all aspiring musicians: naming your album Hymns for Disco is a terrible idea. My first thoughts upon seeing this album were something along the lines of “Oh dear God, please don’t make me have to listen to this thing.”

However, my attitude changed from despair to intrigue when I opened up the case and saw the following inscription on the back of the booklet: “to the pantheon – Bo Diddley, Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, you left great maps…”

But, demonstrating that you can’t judge an album by its bizarre title or rock and roll dedications, Hymns for Disco turned out to be one of the more fascinating hip-hop albums I have ever heard.

k-os is the stage name of Kevin Brereton, a Canadian of Trinidadian descent who has achieved impressive sales in Canada over the fourteen years of his career. And after one listen to this album it is easy to see why. While always retaining its roots in hip-hop, it moves seamlessly through reggae, rap, soul, rock and funk, with moments of beat poetry and spoken word creeping in to “Ballad of Noah” (featuring Buck 65, a brilliant Canadian rapper/beat poet).

But even with these myriad styles the production never slips. From the Phil Spector Wall of Sound on soulful “The Rain”, to Jamaican dancehall on “Fly Paper” and the Kings of Leon-esque “Valhalla”, this is an album that will keep you guessing right to the end, and an album that is impossible to pin down in one style. It is a precocious album, with k-os showing off the sheer breadth of his abilities.

Also notable is the fact that the whole album is recorded with a live band and avoids all pimps, hoes and cop-killers, two things that are sadly uncommon in hip-hop. The way that k-os’ voice raps over the irresistible guitar riff in “AquaCity Boy”, coupled with a tight, funky drum-beat makes it one of my favourite tracks of the year. And it has been a damn good year for favourite tracks.

If you are in to hip-hop, buy this album. Hell, buy it even if you aren’t in to hip-hop. This is the sort of music that deserves to be supported. It’s the single most creative thing you are likely to hear for quite some time.

The singles "Crawl" and "Sex on Fire" are serious. Although I'm not too sure about the seriousness of this video...
