Comme je le disais, Coldplay se diversifie des artistes anglais bateaux qui font chavirer le cœur des jeunes groupies ( toutes aussi écervelées qu’eux ) par un simple battement de cils. Sans viser personne en particulier sachez que nous avons également ce même genre de spécimens dans notre bonne vieille France. A contrario de cela, Coldplay fait de la musique qui "sert à quelque chose". Un peu comme U2 a pu le faire dans le passé, Chris Martin et ses trois acolytes sont engagés dans plusieurs causes sociales, prônant ainsi le commerce équitable et Amnesty International.
Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends est donc sorti ce 12 juin 2008 en Angleterre et aux Etats-Unis. Rapidement l’engouement autour de cet album prit des proportions énormes comme en témoigne les 600 000 téléchargements de "Violet Hill" après seulement 24 heures de parution. Ce titre qui est également le premier single du disque excelle par sa rythmique et sa transition entre des passages extrêmement rock et d’autres plus subtiles. Chris Martin pose sa voix avec un effet radio pareillement à Lenny Kravitz sur "Dancin’ Til Dawn", deuxième extrait de son It Is Time For A love Revolution. Ce nouvel opus des britanniques se veut plus varié que ses prédécesseurs notamment au niveau des sonorités. Pas question ici de se contenter d’un seul registre musical. L’album est court ( 10 pistes ) et par conséquent il n’est pas nécessaire que tour les morceaux sonnent pareil. "Cemeteries Of London" emporte l’auditeur en terre celte et laisse transparaître l’attachement du groupe pour leur pays natal. Les chœurs et les guitares du refrain nous téléporteraient presque dans les ruelles de Dublin, entre un pub et d’un fish & chips, à 21h30 en plein hiver…

Si les quatre artistes ont réutilisé le tableau de Delacroix pour le visuel de leur album, le titre a quant à lui été inspiré par le peintre Frida Kahlo et son œuvre Viva la Vida. Le deuxième single porte le même nom et je doute fort qu’il vous soit inconnu. Difficile alors de rester insensible à l’émotion se dégageant de ce morceau. A l’entendre on comprend mieux pourquoi le groupe vend autant de disques. Je me passerais de commentaires inutiles sur cette chanson, la radio la matraque suffisamment. J’aurais juste un qualificatif à employer : exceptionnelle.
Par ailleurs, ce qui plait chez Coldplay c’est leur faculté à toucher un public extrêmement vaste, allant de l’auditeur lambda au jeune écolier en passant par le papy et le fan de rap. Ce groupe possède les clés pour satisfaire tout le monde, ou presque. Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends contient son lot de ballades comme le prouve le très explicite "Yes" qui tient en haleine durant plus de sept minutes.

Dans un registre nettement plus mélancolique, seul un piano et quelques violons suffisent à Chris Martin pour émouvoir ses fans sur "42". Quant à "Death And All His Friends", il a lourde tache de clôturer le cinquième essai d’un quatuor qui n’est pas prêt de mourir. Chris Martin et ses hommes ont semble t-il trouvé la formule magique du succès. Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends propulse de nouveau le groupe au sommet des charts un peu partout dans le monde, pour notre plus grand plaisir. Comme je le disais, peu importe le style l’essentiel est que la musique soit bonne. Avec ce disque, Coldplay monte sur une nouvelle marche de l’escalier qui les mènera au panthéon des très grands artistes.
La liberté guide le peuple, Coldplay nous ravi une fois encore, le bonheur éclaire nos visages. Viva la vida !

PARIS — After this afternoon's Louis Vuitton show, T Magazine's editor, Stefano Tonchi, filed this dispatch over The Fashion Telex: "On a runway dusted with golden sand, Marc Jacobs sent out the most luxurious, upbeat and colorful femme fatales of the week!" As ever, the front row was crowded with celebrities eager to see the latest from Marc Jacobs. Lenny Kravitz, wearing a muscle shirt on a chilly day, raised the eyebrows of a few fashion editors. Who killed Amanda Palmer? No one, but if you've ever doubted that she's one tough cookie then cease your disbelief now. The punk cabaret artist went ahead and played a gig for young fans in Belfast on Sunday night despite having a rather nasty accident with a moving car earlier in the day that left her with a broken toe and three broken metatarsals in her right foot. After spending the afternoon in Belfast City Hospital she hobbled over to Auntie Annie's on crutches so as not to disappoint her fans.

"I had an accident today," she said while on stage at the venue. "I did what most stupid Americans do and walked on the wrong side of the road and ended up getting run over...I have to say I'm very grateful for the free healthcare that you have in Northern Ireland. This is the first show I've played where I'm completely on drugs."

The accident wraps up a week full of dramas for the singer after her Dresden Dolls bandmate Brian Viglione confirmed the band's 'demise' through a posting on their official forum. Apparently she wasn't expecting that. Amanda's post on the whole mess makes for insightful and thought-provoking reading.

That Inara George just can't sit still for a minute. In the 18 months since the first Bird & The Bee album, her ongoing collaboration with in-demand songwriter/producer Greg Kurstin has sprouted two EPs of all-new songs - 2007's Please Clap Your Hands and this year's One Too Many Hearts - and she's only just released her second solo album, An Invitation, a richly orchestrated collaboration with family friend Van Dyke Parks. As someone who has been known to work on three different releases at once we shouldn't be surprised to hear that there's a new Bird & The Bee album coming out in the not too distant future (January, to be precise). It's called Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future, for reasons I am sure will become perfectly clear at some point. Is it me or are they slowly morphing into The Avengers? Anyway, the 14-song album only pinches two EP songs (‘Birthday' and ‘Polite Dance Song'); the rest are brand new.

More music meets War Child news. Following on from last week's announcement of the new Heroes compilation, today sees the beginning of a week-long auction of protest signs handmade by a huge array of indie-rock royalty in support of the charity. Organised by Under The Radar magazine, the protest signs featured in a recent issue in which musicians were invited to share their thoughts on today's political climate and get it all out on paper to boot. Stars, Metric, Rilo Kiley, The Dresden Dolls, St Vincent, Sharon Jones and The Duke Spirit join the likes of REM, Modest Mouse, Spoon, Death Cab For Cutie, Jarvis Cocker, The Flaming Lips, The Decemberists, Public Enemy, Rage Against The Machine, Fleet Foxes and more in flogging their one-of-a-kind artistic creations for a worthwhile cause. Big band singer Connie Haines has died from a neuromuscular disease at the age of 87. Born Yvonne Marie Antoinette JaMais, she began singing at the age of 5, and at the age of 9 had her own radio show. By her 18th birthday, she was already working with Frank Sinatra and establishing herself as one of the top female singers of the big band era. Once the fashion for big band waned, she became a solo artist and released more than 200 recordings, becoming the first white artist to record for Motown in the process. She also appeared in several films in the 1940s and ‘50s, and also touring with comedians Bud Abbott and Lou Costello. She is survived by her 109 year old mother Mildred, a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren.

We were rooting for Basia Bulat, Stars, Kathleen Edwards and Black Mountain, but the Polaris Prize - the Canadian equivalent of the Mercury - was last night awarded to Caribou for their album Andorra. The band take away CA$20,000, which I'm sure will come in handy. Here's a recent performance from Basia anyway, because she's lovely.

On the subject of Canadian award ceremonies, the winner of this year's best newcomer Juno, Serena Ryder, has announced the release of her third album proper in November, in Canada, and elsewhere next year. Is It OK was recorded at the same studio Serena's favourite album, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, in Santa Monica, California, with producer John Alagia (Liz Phair, Rachael Yamagata).

"I was in Stevie Nicks's vocal booth with candles all around and stained-glass windows and mirrors everywhere," Ryder told ChartAttack.com. "It was totally fabulous. I definitely felt the energy. I wanted to tap my veins into the walls, you know?"

Outside of Canada, the album will be preceded by a digital EP, Sweeping The Ashes, featuring three songs from the album. The EP will hit music download outlets from mid-October.

It seems that not even Madonna can get away with nearly stranding thousands of fans by taking too long to get her muscly behind in gear. Despite her agent's claims that she wouldn't be fined for allowing her Wembley Stadium gig on September 11th to overrun by nearly 40 minutes, venue authorities have reportedly ordered the star to pay up £135,000 - £50,000 for every 15 minutes she exceeded the 10:30 pm curfew - as punishment for causing a number of traffic problems as gig goers tried to scramble home before public transport seized up for the evening. She's not the first person to be hit with such a huge levy; according to The Sun, George Michael was fined nearly £130,000 last year when his Wembley gig also overran.

It seems like forever ago when we were reporting on country singer Mindy McCready's several run-ins with the police following a 2004 drugs charge. So why mention it now? Because the singer begins a 60-day prison sentence in Tennessee today after being charged with violating her probation by falsifying her community service records. "I am working very hard to put all of this behind me as quickly as possible so I can get back to what I love to do most: sing, write songs and entertain," she said in a statement.

Accidental Railway was recorded in Montreal and was inspired by her travels around the US and Europe, so much so that it even comes packaged with a pullout map of her journey. Since her 1989 single ‘Oíche Chiúin (Silent Night)' Enya has been threatening to make a full Christmas album. She came close in 2006 with the bonus EP that came with Amarantine, and this time too she narrowly avoids making good on that threat. And Winter Came, her upcoming seventh studio album, is billed as "a broader seasonal album" than was originally conceived. Says Enya, "I always wanted to do a Christmas album, but as we began recording, I didn't feel it was right to impose a Christmas theme on certain songs."

The album was recorded in Dublin with her usual team of producer/arranger Nicky Ryan and lyricist Roma Ryan, and features ten original songs alongside two holiday classics: ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel' and a new choral version of Oíche Chiúin'. The first single, ‘Trains & Winter Rains', was sent to radio this week. The album is out on November 10th.

Finally, there are some who would argue that an essential collection of Céline Dion songs would be a very slim volume indeed, but obviously those dollar-loving folks at Columbia Records don't agree. Next month sees the release of not just the 17-song Essential Collection but also the 26-song Ultimate Essential Collection, presumably for only the hardcore masochists among us. Both sets include new song ‘There Comes A Time' and a new live recording of the Linda Perry-penned ‘My Love'. I know what I'm getting you for Christmas.

Os fãs de Ivete Sangalo vão poder conhecer um pouco mais da intimidade da cantora. Durante o mês de setembro, a Ivete inaugurou seu estúdio, em seu apartamento, no luxuoso Edifício Morada dos Cardeais, no bairro do Campo Grande, em Salvador.

Entitulado de "Pode entrar", o projeto resultará na gravação do terceiro DVD da musa do axé, com músicas inéditas e algumas regravações em comemoração aos seus 15 anos de carreira. Escoltada por sua banda e grandes compositores, porém sem o calor do público, Ivete vai receber alguns amigos para fazer duetos. A lista já está quase pronta e nela constam os nomes de Maria Bethânia, Lulu Santos, Carlinhos Brown, Saulo Fernandes, Aviões do Forró, Vanessa da Mata, Marcelo Camelo e Mônica Sangalo, irmã da cantora. Outros nomes que ainda não confirmaram presença mas foram convidados são Margareth Menezes, Maria Rita e Rogério Flausino do Jota Quest.

Produzido pela própria Ivete e seu parceiro Alexandre Lins, da Caco de Telha Discos, com distribuição da Universal Music, o projeto deve chegar às lojas até o fim do ano. “Esse projeto tem dois lados. O primeiro é a realização de um sonho antigo de Ivete, mostrar um pouco do seu cotidiano de ensaios e registrá-lo com amigos as músicas inéditas. Ao contrário do DVD do Maracanã, em que tivemos várias regravações e poucas músicas inéditas, como se relaciona muito bem com artistas e fãs, quer revelar um pouco mais de sua intimidade. Ela abrindo a porta, recebendo os convidados, levando-os para o estúdio. Uma coisa bem intimista”, diz Alexandre. Porém, engana-se quem pensa que terá um "reality" dentro da casa de Ivete, a cantora já mandou avisar que mostrará, sim, sua intimidade mas que será basicamente pautada nas conversas e brincadeiras que acontecem dentro do estúdio com os músicos.

Este trabalho já conta com 14 músicas inéditas e algumas regravações, se tudo correr dentro do prazo, o DVD ainda sai esse ano para ser trabalhado no Carnaval de 2009. A “Banda do Bem” que acompanha Ivete desde o início de sua carreira solo estará completa e as músicas serão variadas, tendo canções para todos os gostos: “Oba”, “Dalila”, “Na base do beijo”, "Você ta balançando", "Agora eu já sei" e “Balacobaco”.

No ano de 2009, Ivete Sangalo quer dominar o mundo. Visando a carreira internacional, a baiana gravará seu quarto DVD na “Madisson Square Garden”, em Nova York. Nomes como Shakira, Tina Turner e Lenny Kravitz fazem parte da lista de convidados. Além de ajustes técnicos, a nova data ainda não foi definida, sabe-se apenas que coincidirá com as férias de grande parte dos integrantes dos fãs da artista, pois eles estão se movimentando para comparecer em peso e agitar a festa em terras estrangeiras.

Além do “Pode Entrar” e do DVD em Nova York, Ivete Sangalo realizou um sonho de longa data e revelou em seu blog que finalizou o primeiro CD com músicas inéditas só para crianças. O CD vai se chamar ‘Casa Amarela’, foi feito em parceria com de Saulo Fernandes da Banda Eva. A idéia surgiu após um passeio de lancha em que os dois conversaram sobre filhos e sobrinhos há um ano. A única participação neste CD será da Rainha dos baixinhos, Xuxa, amiga de longa data de Ivete. Ivetinha, como é chamada pelos íntimos, já está divulgando uma das músicas deste CD, o “Funk do Xixi”, que está causando o maior alvoroço no público por dar margem à interpretação de que as crianças podem fazer xixi na cama sem problemas.

Em breve, será convocada uma coletiva de imprensa de lançamento nada convencional: jornalistas terão de levar suas crianças para fazer as perguntas à dupla. O projeto chega às prateleiras na primeira quinzena de outubro. É esperar pra ver.

George Jefferson (Sherman Hemsley) ha fatto fortuna, da una piccola lavanderia ne possiede adesso una catena, e per questo decide di trasferirsi, con la paziente moglie Louise (Isabel Sanford), in un lussuoso appartamento di Manhattan. Il problema di George sta nel fatto che è un tremendo "razzista" all'incontrario: non sopporta proprio i bianchi, soprattutto quelli come Tom Willis, il suo vicino che ha sposato una donna di colore (Helen, interpretata da Roxie Roker, la madre di Lenny Kravitz). Figurarsi quando viene a sapere che suo figlio Lionel si è fidanzato con la loro figlia!

A dare filo da torcere a George ci pensa Flo (Marla Gibbs), la cameriera pettegola e scansafatiche, sempre in lite con il tremendo datore di lavoro. Serie davvero divertente, con uno Sherman Hemsley (George) straordinario. E una deliziosa Isabel Sanford magnifica spalla del protagonista.

La serie ha avuto al suo attivo ben 11 stagioni per un totale di 253 episodi, spin-off di un'altra sit-com di grande successo quale "Arcibaldo" (prossimamente ricorderemo anche questa!)

In Italia è andata in onda sopratutto su Canale 5 e poi alternativamente su Rete 4.

Che fine hanno fatto? Sherman Hemsley, ex impiegato postale prima del grandissimo successo che avebbe ottenuto con la serie tv, continua a lavorare nel mondo dello spettacolo, mentre Isabel Sanford, sua moglie Louise, è purtroppo venuta a mancare recentemente: settima figlia di un settimo figlio, cosa che non sarebbe piaciuta agli Iron Maiden, aveva raggiunto la bella età di 86 anni, ed era famosa per essere stata la prima attrice di colore a vincere un Emmy. Marla Gibbs, l'indisponente Flo, lavora ancora nel mondo degli show televisivi, recentemente anche nel popolare "Dawson's creek".

• this weekend we spent some time at Broadway at the Beach.  No trip is ever complete without at least three trips to the bathroom.  On my venture with Haig he was getting tired walking and so I gave him a piggyback ride.  He is riding on my back and whispers in my ear, "Mom, thanks for all the things you do for us like carrying me when I am tired."  Awww, he is so sweet:)
• He really is but I tried hard to refocus on that sweetness when we walked into the public bathroom and as I politely smile and nod at the sweet little old lady in front of us Haig announces, "It smells like old lady in here!"  Ugh!
• Sometimes this summer when Eli had a late nap and was having a hard time falling asleep at bedtime, he would stay up with Mommy and Daddy and watch the episodes we taped of Wipeout. You know that silly game show/reality show where the contestants have to complete this crazy obstacle course and the two comedy announcers make fun of them the whole time.  No he was not scarred by their sarcasm.  It really is a hilarious show.  Anyways so Friday Eli was up in his room, and he has a cloth swing in his room (impulse buy from IKEA).  He was jumping from his bed and grabbing onto the swing and then running into the wall and falling onto the floor.  I was putting away clothes and watching him when he ran up and pretended to hand me a microphone.  He said, "Mommy I fall into mud and you ask me questions.  I get knocked down by punching things."  I was thinking, "what?"  So he further explained, "I in wipeout and I need a helmet." So he runs outside and puts a bucket on his head with the handle under his chin and proceeds to continue throwing himself on the floor/into the mud!  He wanted me to be the interviewer and ask him questions each time he fell.  For those of you that are familiar with the show Wipeout, I hope you find this as humorous as I did.  I wish I had caught it on camera!
• Eli is also currently obsessed with guitars, particularly the electric sort.  Everything becomes a guitar, from a fork, to a thermos or his favorite is his long stick riding horse.  He hooks the rein across his body like a strap and then holds the bottom up and strums.  More like jams.  Today he told us he was doing a concert.  We turned on some Lenny Kravitz and he went to town.  He sings, "Everybody!!!!"  over and over and over and then jumps off the "stage" into the "crowd" and plays his guitar in all kind of strange poses.  I am not sure where he has seen this phenomenon.  I do allow him to watch my younger brother Jeremiah online at times play the drums in his band Manchester Orchestra but I don't think he has seen any crazy guitar moves.  I truly do look forward to the teenage years with my little spitfire:)
• Lastly, McCall this weekend made a sweet comment.  He was just hanging out, thinking I guess and randomly said, "Mom, you know what I can't wait to be when I grow up?  A dad!"  Pretty cool:)

believe it or not, ll cool j did an episode of mtv unplugged.  and it was crazee hype, yo!  here's "mama said knock you out".  it really is a wicked cool version.

a more natural fit to the unplugged audience was certainly r.e.m.  one of the truly greatest bands to come out of the 80's, here is what i consider to be their greatest piece of work, "losing my religion" (which is actually an old southern saying that means you've lost love).

now i had mentioned covers.  it's tough to pick a favorite that has been performed on unplugged, b/c there have been so many.  but, i really think the 10,000 maniacs version of patti smith & bruce springsteen's "because the night" is amazing, and honestly, i like it a lot more than the original (sorry boss!).

so, oasis was all lined up and ready to play unplugged.  suprise, suprise, liam gallagher decided to be a friggin' gobshite and get hamma'd and heckle his supremely more talented brother noel gallagher from the rafters.  and you know what?  it was much better without liam.  noel is a genius, i love him.  liam is a tosser.  but, i still kinda enjoy him being that way.  here's "what's the story, morning glory".

bjork is crazy.  and i love her.  if i did a all-time favorite videos post i think "human behaviour" would make the list.  and "army of me" is one of my absolute favorite songs.  it makes me just want to go to iceland and hang out in one of those warm springs in the middle of a glacier and be surrounded by superior genes.  here's the little knome with "human behaviour".

there are basically 3 bands that came out of the 80's that to me stand head and shoulders above the rest.  u2, the smiths and the cure.  now, i'm not the biggest cure fan by any means, in that i really love their singles, but don't care much for the albums, whereas i know every u2 & smiths album backward & forward.  but that robert smith sure knew how to write a wonderful single.  and in '91 he smeared on his lipstick and got out the aqua net and the lads did this great version of their first single, "boys don't cry".

what happened to lenny kravitz?  he used to be really good.  maybe lisa bonet dumping him ruined his muse.  or maybe it was cutting off his dreads.  who knows.  but here he is, when he was still good, doing "are you gonna go my way" (it's about jesus).

now if anyone is going to contest nirvana as the greatest episode of unplugged ever, it's lauryn hill.  her set was incredible, so much passion.  my favorite song from it was "oh jerusalem", but i couldn't find it on video.  here's "i gotta find peace of mind".  this woman is so talented, i wish she was still doing music (well, at least making albums) b/c the world needs her voice.

and to end it off, a raucous rendition of neil young's "keep on rockin' in the free world" by pearl jam.  amazing.
