Es waren nur knapp 10 Minuten. Ich unterwegs auf einer Straße, die wie eine Allee mit Kariesschäden wirkt. Dort wo die Bäume stehen, besänftigt der Schatten das etwas überhitzte Gemüt und lässt den Fahrtwind eine überaus angenehme Kühle verbreiten.

Dort, wo die frühabendliche Sonne durchkommt, streichelt sie mir Gesicht und Arme und lässt wunderbare Gerüche von Blüten und Kräutern hereinströmen. Das Abgasgemisch vorbeiröhrender Motorradfahrer lässt sich dabei ganz leicht ignorieren.

Aus dem CD-Player pflanzen sich die mittlerweile ziemlich vergessenen Les Negresses vertes mit „Voila l’ete“ in meine Ohren und machen glücklich...

Könnte sich dieses Gefühl nun bitte mehrere Zentimeter tief in mein Gemüt einprägen und immer dann abrufbar sein, wenn die äußeren Umstände mal wieder ganz andere sein sollten? Dankesehr!

because it is summer (still), and because they have an akkordeon, and because they're fun, and because they're really cheeky, and because i just re-listened to their record and have to stay: yeah! olé! voilà l'été! at the time i found this record that good that i actually bought it around seven times to give it to friends - and i still do not regret that today.

some of you might know les negresses vertes through face à la mer - a track which (especially in form of the massive attack remix) has been featured on some big compilations. i've seen them live ages ago (just after mlah came out, i think) - and it was a moment where i considered marrying, just for the reason so i could book them as the wedding orchestra. the hips were swaying, there were screams of delight, everybody was grinning - and they created a festive atmosphere where you suddenly dance with strangers the night away... as a bonus you got that akkordeon player with his slicked back longish hair falling back in his face being very sensual - the first rows of the public, women and men alike, were just falling under his erotic spell...

funny enough he took over from the leadsinger for one song - l'homme de marais - which to this day i consider a beautiful gay lovesong (it works when you only hear the song (female and male forms sound the same) - unfortunately when you read the lyrics, the female forms are used. but i am convinced that this is just a mistake in the transcription).

Jaune Toujours @ Global

Sometimes you just have to go a step forward in an unknown direction to discover new bands, new names, new sounds, new genres. Well, I'm being a bit extreme maybe 'cause in the present case I was quite sure it would be good stuff. But from the artist I had never heard before, going there only on the trust I have in Global CPH. They cannot have bad music there, just need to be a bit open minded and your heart ready for new things. The very short description they gave on their web page was appealing enough, something like "Jaune Toujours is an explosive mix of rock, chanson, ska, gypsy, latin, balkan and brassband. " Can you really refuse going to such a gig when you read something like this. I obviously can't!

There are a few criteria to judge if a band perform well live. One of them is to be able to bring a crowd that has not heard about its music to dance and even ask for more. That's exactly what happened that Saturday night at Global. Jaune Toujours was relatively unknown and the few people that came were sitting on each side of the room, tapping the rhythm, applauding when a song was over. But after a while, people stood up and started to dance. The singer of the band announced the last song but people were into it and the half song announcement was actually half way through the concert. At the end it was really an explosion, people dancing and shouting, exactly like this kind of music should be attended: live and lively!

My opinion on the band is rather positive, it sounded like Les negresses Vertes (French band from the 80's-90's), they have nice lyrics and melodies, a broad range of influences that you can hear in their music, and also in their lyrics (at least 4 different languages were sung that night).

If you see Jaune Toujours coming in town, don't miss them. I have the feeling they will be in Roskilde this year.

PS: Despite the entrance price that to me is a bit high for first-concert-in-town band, it is ok at the end when you think about all the work and persons it involves.
