GM Eltaj Safarli (Elo 2,527) of Azerbaijan defeated GM Bassem Amin (Elo 2,561) from Egypt and replaced him to take the sole lead of the tournament.

Seferli’s win against Bassem Amin brought him four points and ahead of Brkic, GM David Howell of England, Women GM Hou Yifan and Chen Lin from China all holding 3.5 points.

HA NOI — Le Quang Liem (Elo rating of 2,577) moved up at the World Junior Chess Championship on Wednesday after his second straight victory during the fifth round of the ongoing tournament in Turkey.

The Vietnamese Grand Master (GM) defeated International Master (IM) Tornike Sanikidze (Elo 2,486) of Georgia, to rank eight overall.

Liem, who won the U-14 world champion title in 2005, had no problems beating Sanikidze, as the 17-year-old Vietnamese master started off at a higher level than his rival.

With his third win in the tournament, Liem jumped up six places from 14th on Tuesday to eighth on Wednesday.

He tied in his fifth round with IM Jacek Tomczak (Elo 2,451) of Poland. The draw was an upset, as the former world U-10 champion had a much higher Elo rating than his opponent. Elo ratings represent how the players rank in the world.

Taking just 0.5 points from the tie, Son now stands at three, which brings him down from Tuesday’s 22nd spot to now 27th.

Liem and Li will face each other in round six on board one, while 15-year-old female prodigy Yifan Hou (Elo 2,557), who is holding the Women’s GM title, will take on Howell.

On the girls’ side, WGM Tatev Abrahamyan (Elo 2,277) of the US drew with top seed Harika Dronavalli (Elo 2,461) from India to defend her half-point lead. With every other top board ending in a draw, the contest for the top spots remained unchanged.

Abrahamyan with 4.5 points will face Mariya Muzychuk (Elo 2,413) of Ukraine in the next round. Four players with four points: Harika vs Dauletova and Nakhbayeva vs Gomes will face each other.

"Oh, dulu ketika saya datang belum punya apa-apa. Saya pelihara, lantas beranak-pinak. Sebagian telurnya saya jual, sebagian saya tetaskan jadi bebek. Bebek saya tambah banyak ... ," tutur Oom Liem.

"Lantas ...?"

"Merasa berhasil dengan bebek, saya coba memelihara babi. Uang hasil memelihara bebek saya belikan 2 pasang babi. Saya pelihara baik-baik dan saya kembang-biakkan hingga jadi banyak ...," ujar Oom Liem.

Begitu cerita Oom Liem.
