First, there's scuba diving. My dad and I decided somewhere around Christmas of '07 that the time was right. We took our certification course in January of '08 and did our certification dives in Grand Cayman less than a month later. We've both been hooked ever since, and can't seem to get enough. Since then, we've been on a diving trip in Key West and have completed specialty courses in Underwater Photography, Nitrox/Enriched Air, and Wreck Diving. Up next is EFR (Emergency First Response) and Rescue Diving. We've both loved every second of it, and while it's an amazing hobby, it's very expensive. The equipment itself is expensive, as are the courses and trips. And what a bummer - we both prefer warm, tropical destinations as opposed to murky local quarries. Darn!

Next up is photography. While I've expressed a serious interest in photography over the past 6 years, within the past two years the interest has turned into somewhat of an obsession. I've since added to my collection of cameras and lenses and have very recently started a certificate program in photography at HCC. You know how expensive camera equipment is, and I have to admit that the expenses for the class came as quite a shock. I didn't think I'd get away with spending nothing, but I certainly didn't expect this. Not including the course fees and book, the supplies I need for Basic Photography thus far have totaled $429.92, with another $30 or so to go. That's not including the supplies I already had! We're talking developing tanks and reels, photo paper, negative preservers and imagekeeper, cable release, mounting boards and tissue, storage wipes, magnifying loupes, gray card, and several other miscellaneous supplies. Argh ...

Finally, there's cake decorating. While this is by far the cheapest hobby of the three, it's been no easy ride. I've taken the first two courses in the Wilton Method - Discover Cake Decorating and Flowers & Borders. It's been fun, and extremely useful. I look forward to continuing my practice, waiting for the day when something I make actually looks attractive and appetizing!

I guess it's just the nature of hobbies, huh? My husband, along with his dad, brother, and our nephews, are Lionel addicts. They don't like the $40 cars and cheap engines, either. Nope, they're into the real deal. That, too, is an expensive hobby, though it brings enjoyment and long-term value.

Thinking about it, none of my hobbies bring long-term value. Hmpf ... maybe I need to rethink things ... nah!

Setelah mengkandaskan Brazil pada pertandingan semifinal dengan skor yang cukup telak, kembali di final yang berlangsung pada tanggal 23 agustus 2008, pukul 10.30 waktu Indonesia, akhirnya kembali mengalahkan Nigeria dan menjadikan juara sekaligus mempertahankan medali emas dan juara 4 tahun lalu, serta mampu membalas kekalahan pada olimpiade 1996.

Meski hanya dengan skor tipis 1-0 Argentina yang mengandalkan Lionel Messi akhirnya menjadi juara sepakbola olimpiade Beijing 2008.

Pantaskah Argentina menjadi juara olimpiade beijing tahun ini, dan apakah mampu mempertahankan kembali gelar juara mereka pada olimpiade London 4 tahun lagi.

Well the updates aren't coming like I would have hoped but it's half time now and wow. What a game. It is 4-1 Barcelona at half time, and they are destroying the Red Bulls. Sitting in Barcelona's side, and they will be attacking away from us next half. What a great first half. That's all for now. I'll update on the, what will probably be, a very long ride home. =]

Dejando a un lado este debate lo que está claro es que Konami ha acertado de lleno con su campaña publicitaria para promocionar el PRO 2009. Si ayer veíamos el primer trailer del juego en el que el protagonismo absoluto se lo llevaba el jugador argentino (fielmente recreado, por cierto), en este caso, hemos conocido que la portada del juego también será protagonizada por Lionel Messi, desconocemos si compartirá la misma con algún otro crack (podrían poner a Villa o a Fernando Torres, ahora que somos campeones de Europa).

La razón de escoger a Messi por parte de Konami es sencilla, aparte de ser uno de los 3 mejores jugadores del mundo y de los más mediáticos del momento, parece ser que Leo es un fiel jugador de la saga Pro Evolution Soccer desde hace varios años. Messi ha firmado un contrato con Konami para, además de ser la portada de PES 2009 para todas las plataformas, promocionará el juego mediante diversas campañas publicitarias, convirtiéndose así en el estandarte de Konami para su juego.

Messi alabó el realismo de la saga PES y comentó que es un juego que realmente refleja toda la técnica y el control del fútbol real.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 saldrá en Octubre de este año 2008 para todas las plataformas incluyendo PS3, XBOX 360, PC, PS2, PSP y Wii

Messi es uno de los delanteros que más admiración y emoción despiertan en el mundo del fútbol hoy en día, por su presencia permanente, tanto en la selección nacional argentina como en su club, el FC Barcelona. Como parte del nuevo acuerdo entre el crack argentino y Konami, Lionel Messi se convertirá en la portada de todas las versiones de PES 2009 cuando el producto se lance al mercado a finales de año, siendo también el protagonista de la campaña y materiales promocionales del juego.

Mr Lionel Lim and auto giant Daimler South East Asia on Friday reached an out-of-court settlement on the dispute through their lawyers.

Both sides were tight-lipped after leaving Justice Andrew Ang's chambers.

After my chortling yesterday about gorgeous SA weather, the clouds had the last laugh and gathered in force today, so we trundled off to take a few shots of the boat and then head for the hills.

Down by the water, even though it was Saturday afternoon, we found both Steven and Ken and two of the other guys still hard at work. Little by little the clutter of tools and spare parts are disappearing, and more of those finishing touches are taking their place. Steven, determined as ever to get everything just right, was redoing some wiring work in the mast; Ken overseeing yet more wiring within the saloon (there's just sooo much of it on this boat!), and making a fabulously neat job of things. Their commitment to this project is total - and very reassuring (though we suspect their families might like to see a little more of them); we, however, have no complaints, only gratitude.

As for those loathesome laptops, mentioned earlier: the internet service here is a little patchy, but last night and for most of today - in fact, up to writing this blog entry tonight - it has been un-bloody-speakable. For me, that is. Dick's compootering has had better luck. Anyway, Lena and Jack very kindly called out an IT guy, Lionel, who did all sorts of wonderful wizardry on both machines which was clever and no doubt very beneficial, but after he'd gone, I was still left with a comatose internet connection. Half an hour to load one web page is no laughing matter. So laughing was off, and cursing the air blue was on. However, you'll be pleased to know all is now restored. The problem? Yours truly deleting some silly-sounding programme off her laptop which she thought was infected with a virus ... it wasn't. And the silly-sounding prog turned out to be an essential piece of kit for the speedy efficient downloading of images and goodness knows what else. So guess who's got egg all over her face .... ?!

Computers, eh? Can't live with 'em; can't live without 'em. Pah!

En una final dramática, que tuvo todos los condimentos, el Manchester United venció por penales a Chelsea, luego del empate 1 a 1 en tiempo reglamentario y suplementarios, y se coronó por tercera vez en su historia campeón de la Champions League, el torneo a nivel de clubes más importante de Europa, informó el diario La Nación.

Como era de esperarse, la primera final en la historia entre equipos ingleses encontró a los dos con nerviosismo y mucho apuro. Por eso los 15 minutos iniciales entregaron poco para rescatar futbolísticamente, mucha fricción y ninguna situación.

Con el correr de los minutos fue Manchester el que logró imponer su mejor juego y crear las situaciones de gol más peligrosas. El argentino Carlos Tevez no lograba entrar en juego, pero su movilidad en el ataque ayudaba a crear espacios. Ronaldo abrió la cuenta a los 27, tras un gran centro desde la derecha de Wes Brown. El portugués le ganó con mucha facilidad en el salto a Michael Essien y colocó el balón junto al palo derecho del checo Petr Cech, para conseguir su 42do. gol en esta temporada.

A partir de ahí se vio lo mejor del conjunto de Alex Fergusson y del ex jugador de Boca en el PT. Tuvo dos el argentino para convertir. La primera, clarísima, un cabezazo de palomita tras el centro de Ronaldo desde la izquierda bien resuelto por el arquero, que luego del rebote también le ahogó el grito a Michael Carrick. En la segunda, el Apache fue anticipado por muy poco antes de conectar un centro que lo había dejado cara a cara con Cech.

Cuando parecía que se iban al vestuario con el 1 a 0, un error defensivo y una serie de rebotes, el último en el capitán Ferdinand, le dio la posibilidad a Frank Lampard de marcar el empate, que cayó como un balde de agua fría para los jugadores de Manchester.

Con la confianza por el empate, el equipo del israelí Avram Grant salió con todo a buscar la victoria. En cambio, los Reds se replegaron atrás con la idea de salir de contraataque. Pero las ocasiones de contragolpear para los recientes campeones de la Premier League, que le ganaron en la recta final justamente a Chelsea, fueron pocas.

Por su parte, el Apache siguió teniendo poco contacto con el balón. Eso sí, siguió entregándose al máximo para intentar mover a los defensores del equipo londinense y generar espacios. Chelsea buscó intensamente el gol ante un Manchester desorientado y sin respuestas físicas ni futbolísticas.

Apenas algunos intentos de Ronaldo y un buen remate de Tevez que pasó cerca funcionaron como oasis en medio del asedio del conjunto londinense. Essien llegó hasta el fondo, enganchó y se lo perdió enviando el balón por arriba. Más tarde, Didier Drogba estuvo cerca de cerrar el partido con un remate en el palo.

Sin diferencias en los 90 minutos, el juego se trasladó al tiempo suplementario, con muchas situaciones de peligro, y con Tevez elevando su nivel de juego. Lampard, de media vuelta, sacó un zurdazo que se estrelló en el travesaño. Pero los Reds reaccionaron: Giggs se lo perdió adentro del área tras una corrida de Cole, y luego Tevez remató a las manos de Cech.

Con las pulsaciones elevadas, el final fue emotivo y también violento: por una pelea generalizada, fue expulsado Drogba y amonestados Tevez y Ballack.

Tevez abrió la serie desde los doce pasos con un buen remate bajo, esquinado. El primero en fallar fue, paradójicamente, la estrella de Manchester, Ronaldo. Terry remató para cerrar el pleito pero se resbaló y empató la serie. Luego, el que falló, decretando el título de los Reds, fue Anelka.

El Festival de Cine de Cannes tuvo un invitado de lujo: Diego Armando Maradona. Es que hoy se presentó el documental sobre su vida que realizó el cineasta serbio Emir Kusturica, informó el diario Clarín.

Parecía una jornada tranquila. Pero al crack argentino le preguntaron por las recientes declaraciones que hizo Pelé, y el buen clima se alteró. ¿Qué había dicho el brasileño? Que el Diez tendría que devolver los títulos que ganó en el fútbol por sus casos de doping. El ex Boca no aguantó, y estalló. Salió con los botines de punta contra O'Rei, lo que ya es un clásico.

"Pelé no tiene dignidad para hablar de mí. Lo lamento por él. Si yo no hubiera hecho las cosas que hice en la vida, él no llegaba ni a segundo", dijo Diego, en referencia a su adicción a la cocaína. Acto seguido, el Diez aclaró que no iba a hablar más del O' Rei porque así se lo había prometido a sus hijas. "Pero es más fuerte que yo", se disculpó. Y siguió: "Cuando Pelé habla, habla negociando. Y creo que el cariño de las personas no se negocia. El ya fue. Debería estar más cerca de los jugadores y no de Joseph Blatter (presidente de la FIFA) y de Joao Havelange (ex presidente de la FIFA)".

Ya más tranquilo, Diego volvió a respaldar al crack brasileño Ronaldinho, quien está en crisis en el Barcelona, y a quien calificó como una "excelente persona, un jugador muy bueno, que al club le dio todo. No se lo puede criticar como lo están haciendo. No hagan lo mismo que hicieron con Rivaldo, con Ronaldo, con Romario, con Figo y un montón de jugadores que llevaron al Barcelona a los cielos".

Mañana, en Moscú, se jugará la final de la Liga de Campeones. Maradona reconoció que hará fuerza por el Manchester United (se enfrenta al Chelsea) porque en ese equipo está Carlos Tevez. Además, dijo que España es "favorita" en la Eurocopa aunque también destacó a Italia y Alemania, "dos selecciones ganadoras".

Maradona asistió a la proyección del documental de Kusturica, que está fuera de concurso oficial en Cannes y en que, según los críticos, "es un panegírico desembozado de uno de los más grandes futbolistas de la historia", con declaraciones y los goles fabulosos del ex crack, quien además habla de su vida.

E' vero che se la tattica è fondamentale persino se si gioca a carte in due (a scopa se hai le carte migliori e le giochi male perdi), figuriamoci nel calcio: ma a tutto c'è un limite. Ma due semifinali di Champions con tanti campioni e al tempo stesso così brutte non si erano mai viste. Colpa degli strateghi, di chi fa giocare Fernando Torres all'ala sinistra, di chi manda in campo due centravanti come Rooney e Tevez e li fa giocare dietro e di chi si affida a una compagnia di puffi. Va a finire che la Champions la vince il Chelsea il cui allenatore si limita ad assegnare le maglie, proprio come faceva Del Bosque, l'ultimo allenatore del Real Madrid a vincere il massimo titolo europeo.
