First, the US Preventive Services Task Force has revised its guidelines on screening for prostate cancer, and everyone will be in an uproar for days. For our take on this, click here.

Second, Porter et al. have developed and validated (internally) a new nomogram for the assessment of risk of metastatic prostate cancer subsequent to radical prostatectomy. Their model is based on the probability of metastatic progression of prostate cancer in 752 patients treated with radical prostatectomy with a mean follow up of 11.6 years. A total of 85/752 patients (11.3 percent) developed metastatic progression. The 5, 10, 15, and 20-year actuarial rates of metastatic progression-free survival were, respectively, 95.9, 90.5, 84.8 and 80.5 percent. Pathological stage T3, elevated radical prostatectomy Gleason sum, and delivery of adjuvant radiotherapy represented independent predictors of metastatic progression, along with a fourth variable describing the presence of co-morbidities. The nomogram achieved 80.2, 77.7, 77.6 and 76.0 percent accuracy in predicting metastatic progression at 5, 10, 15 and 20 years after radical prostatectomy. The authors claim that this nomogram is able to "accurately predict the conditional probability of metastatic progression up to 20 years after radical prostatectomy."

Third, Gignac et al. report that "Outcome assessment policies are highly variable in phase 2 studies of castration-resistant prostate cancer patients, despite published guidelines designed to standardize authentication of disease progression." They go on to note that estimated error in progression-free survival (PFS) in such trials can exceed 6 weeks per cycle because of variations in the assessment schedules. They conclude that any comparisons of PFS times between studies must be made with great caution. The problem is that clinical progression is easier to identify than clinical response in clinical trials in patients with advanced prostate cancer. The authors reviewed phase 2 clinical trials of cytotoxic agents in castration-resistant metastatic prostate cancer over 5 years to evaluate the policies determining extent of disease and the definitions of disease progression. A model was created to define the degree of error in estimating PFS in three hypothetical patient cohorts ( with median PFS of 12, 24, and 36 weeks) when the frequency of outcome assessments varies. Imaging policies for trial entry were heterogeneous, as were the type, timing, and indications for outcome assessments. In the simulation, error in the reported PFS varied according to the interval between assessments. The difference between the detected and the true PFS could vary as much as 6.4 weeks per cycle, based exclusively on the variability of assessment schedules tested.

Finally, Martin et al. report that screening for early stage prostate cancers on the basis of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) may not be justified.  Although screening based on the presence of LUTS is frequently employed, the evidence linking LUTS with prostate cancer is limited. Martin and colleagues assessed the association of LUTS with a subsequent prostate cancer diagnosis in a prospective cohort study based on 21,159 Norwegian men who completed baseline questionnaires, including the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire, between 1995 and 2007 as part of the second Nord-Trøndelag Health Study (HUNT 2). Men were followed-up for prostate cancer incidence and mortality from the date of clinical examination to the end of 2005. During a mean of 9 years follow-up, 518 incident prostate cancers were diagnosed (in 2.4 percent of the study population) and 74 men died from prostate cancer (0.35 percent). Men with severe LUTS had a 2.26-fold increased risk of prostate cancer compared to men reporting no symptoms. A positive association was observed for localized, but not advanced, cancers. They conclude  that LUTS are positively associated with localized, but not advanced or fatal, prostate cancer, suggesting that urinary symptoms are not caused by prostate cancer.

LUTS es una marca de muñecas Japonesas o Coreanas (no se muy bien n_n¿) y como ven lo que las caracteriza mucho son sus grandes ojos tipo anime y sus caritas con expresión de ternura. Me agradaron las posiciones realistas en que las colocan, lo único malo es que los muñecos tienen detalles exagerados de belleza que se confunde con una muñeca, de ahí en fuera puedo decir que hasta las mini-vestimentas que portan están muy originales y bien elaboradas.

Where to begin? It's been some time since I've updated. I've been knee deep in trying to get some dolls ready for IFDC at the end of July. But here's a recent custom. Another gothy type girl for a customer who desperately wanted her own goth girl after seeing the other 2 I did recently.

My Lati babies finally arrived after 2 months since ordering them and then I added 2 more on top of that so now I have 6 yellows. I think I'll stop there for now. They've restocked too so I could get a Lami but I don't feel I need her. I've reached my saturation point with six so unless I let one go I won't be getting her anytime soon.

So, after getting the other bebes with Lati's default make-up I finally decided to redo my Lea. I had originally done her to be similar to the company's default because that's what I liked at the time but now after seeing some more face-ups from other artists, I wanted to put my own touch to her. I LOVE the results and I don't think I'll ever order a basic doll with make-up now that my skills are improving. Also pictured is my Luts KD Bory who ended up getting repainted as well. Now I'm happy with them and can stop fussing over what I didn't like before.

It's hard to catch the subtlety of Bory's brows and they look better in person than this picture. I just want to keeping going at it with doing these resin beauties make-up but I unless I redo every doll I have I'm out of dolls to do. I'll take more pictures of these cuties tomorrow but untill then I must get back to finishing my dolls for the convention.

The resins are truly taking over. Here pictured with my 2 Latis is a MSD sized little girl from Luts. She's a Kid Delf Bory. I've named her Kino after the anime Kino's Journey. I did the face-up on her and again fussed over the eyebrows quite a bit. I'm finally going to leave them alone and she's really a cutie. She's the big sister to the tinies.

So in my title I mention about poor customer service. I had a pretty lousy transaction with an online seller who shall remain nameless. But I will be happy to divulge this information to anyone that asks privately. I decided to track down some Olsen twin dolls hoping to find a body similar to Blythe that could take the special spray paint I got to make a black Blythe. I avoided eBay and went with some unknown through another site that had a collection of online antique stores. The dolls were $6.00 and domestic shipping was $9.00 . Yes that's right- 2 dolls that come to about 9 oz and they were charging more than the dolls themselves and more than double the actual cost to ship the dolls. What's more, they didn't ship it priority mail which would have cost them about $5.00. They state on their site they ship insured parcel post. Well, I finally found out they didn't ship it insured either. If they shipped it first class package rate it would have cost them $2.70. I'm guessing they shipped it for $2.70.

Now, I know I went in and bought the items knowing the shipping was inflated but I compared it with other sites so I went for it. And that would have been fine if I actually received the package. But it's a month later and it's a no show. So that's when I start to get more than a little annoyed that they charged so much for shipping. When they can't even shell out the extra 14 cents for delivery confirmation I start to lose sympathy when they give me excuses that they're trying to recoup their losses in paypal fees, listing fees, inventory fees ect... And I'm no stranger to incurring these fees myself. But what really pushed me over the edge to where I finally filed a paypal claim was their lack of responses to my questions. 2 weeks after I made the purchase I finally contacted them. I asked for a tracking number I think 3 different times and heard nothing. Out of the 5 times I attempted to contact them they responded 3 times. 2 of those 3 times was AFTER I filed the claim. So they had no choice but to refund me. What's really hilarious is they said they hoped I learned a lesson in shopping with them. I laughed out loud at that response. Yes, I learned more about poor customer service. Thanks! ;-)

So here's the lesson for the rest of us sellers that strive to give excellent customer service. Don't try to pad your shipping cost so much just because your other fees are cutting into your profit margins. If you're going to add handling fees then you sure as heck better make sure the customer gets their package and send it with a tracking number so if it does get lost, you can show the customer you sent it and you're not some fly by night scammer. I'm not going to wait around guessing whether it was really sent or not. I don't have a crystal ball and I don't expect my customers to have a crystal ball either and just take my word for it.

If a customer asks questions no matter how stupid and how much you think it is a waste of your time, answer them! And answer them professionally. This seller didn't act professional in the least. I asked for tracking numbers, I expect a response one way or the other. I didn't find out there was never a tracking number until after I filed the claim with paypal. That's a little too late to respond to my questions don't you think?

Naturally this seller thinks I'm one of those difficult avoid at all costs customers and she made no bones in letting me know that. Again, I had to laugh. I've done so many online transactions and have met so many wonderful people both sellers and buyers from all over the world. This is the first deal that went sour. I can say one thing for certain. She doesn't have to worry about ever getting business from me again. If this seller continues to run business this way I won't be the only problem customer she'll ever run across and want to avoid.

And that's all from the trenches of dolly land. I know all of us doll collectors-especially of the Asian doll variety are quite versed in internet shopping and weighing costs of shipping, exchange fees, reliability of overseas sellers ect... Here's to more savvy shopping and may you never run accross problem sellers with poor business practices and very poor customer service!

I have so much catching up to do and so much is going on. Here is my latest commission for a customer who wanted a "mini me" She's a latina Blythe and was previously a Cinnamon Girl. I re-rooted her and gave her make-up and eye chips. I really love how this one came out and find my airbrushing is getting better over time. Still got a ways to go before I get more fancy but hopefully not much further.

Last weekend, I went to my first ABJD meet. It was really neat seeing the other dolls and to get closeups of dolls that I was curious about. I really loved the Luts Delf and Kid Delf that attended. I brought my Puki PIpi and many had been curious to see one up close. The Puki's are pretty popular tinies nowadays. My Twee Twee Spurred some Puki shopping sprees among some collectors. Here's Twee Twee in a wig I made her. This is my first one and I've get to make some more to get the hang of it. It was hard finding the right size for her so I put one together.

So it's official. I'm now a resin addict and plan to attend more meets in the future.

Quoi de neuf dans le monde BJD ces derniers temps ? Pas grand chose. J'attaque ma 5ème semaine d'attente chez Musedoll pour la jolie Ciel. Le Azure est fini de payer et l'adorable Archangel a fait son make-up. Il est si chou que j'ai limite les boules qu'il parte XD Ah si ! Et il y a une tête de Robel à la maison ! Si si ! A peine mon Re-Che-bouche-à-biiiiip parti, il me fallait une vengeance: une autre tête à bouche de biiiiip ! Et donc Robeeeert, pardon Robel (de DIM) est à la maison, mais est aussitôt parti chez Princess Lola pour le make-up *^^* Et il est beau, na ! Pour le nom, je pense à Keith, ça sonne bien. Par contre, pour la résine, je sais pas c'est bizarre. Bon, c'est la première fois que j'ai un DIM entre les mains, mais je trouve la texture étrange. Et bonjour la galère pour mettre les yeux ! Ca va être silicone ou 14mm acrylique obligatoires.

Sinon, je suis en train de faire mon budget BJD. Bon, il n'a pas de date limite car sinon je pourrai aller me pendre direct ! Mais il me faudrait:

• Corps Delf fille NS type 1 à poncer pour faire le corps d'andro à Rampa (comme ça l'autre part pour Adrian) - 440$ ?
• ou un B&G Sky dreaming: le corps pour Adrian et la tête pour m'amuser - 330$ Voir un Senior Delf ? - 522$ (ahah !)
• Corps Minimee normal skin - 275$ voir 2 si la compatibilité Peroth est avérée.
• Autres pas obligatoires: tête El dreaming NS type pour Hirose, tête Soony dreaming type 1 NS pour le fun
• Une Puki Pipi avec pukisha et des pitites pa-pattes. Ok, ça sert strictement à rien, je ne la tripoterai que pendant 2-3 jours, mais c'est trop mignon, c'est tout +_+ - 198$

Remarque: je ne compte bien évidemment pas les fringues XD

En total, mi lista de cosas que quiero comprar asciende a más de 10:

La Unoa de la loterie de la Japan Expo 2007, les éditions limitées pour lesquelles j'ai économisé, ou les fringues dont je rêve qui finissent avec des enchères exhorbitantes ^^; Et là je vais sur le site de Luts pour essyaer d'avoir une tenue dont j'attends le restock depuis un mois et que je pense, je n'aurai jamais et je vais voir les news. Et là j'ai le coeur qui lâche: je viens de gagner le Senior Delf Azure. Euuuh... C'est bien mon pseudo, c'est bien mon adresse mail... Oh purée... Ne pas exploser au bureau, ne pas hurler, ne pas... Vite appeler chéri. Respirer.

Je vais fumer une clope.

Edit: cigarette fumée. Bon, je me pose et je réfléchis. Qu'est-ce que je vais faire du jeune homme ? Il est choupinou tout plein, certes. Je verrai lorsque je l'aurai entre les mains et je déciderai. Peut-être faire un fullset en collaboration avec un bon make-upeur (il y en a pas un qui éternue là ?) et un tenue pour un jour où je serai inspirée ? Peut-être que j'aurai un coup de coeur affolant en ouvrant la boîte ? Nan parce que là, sans déconner, je n'ai ni fringues, ni wigs, ni yeux, ni rien, strictement rien pour ce bonhomme. Déjà que je suis en train de ramer pour avoir une tenue Sadol pour laquelle j'ai économisé deux mois ^^; Hinhin, c'est ça la technique Luts, hop on t'offre une poupée, hop tu achètes pleins de trucs pour lui chez nous XD Ou je pourrai peut-être l'échanger ? Je sais pas... Alea jacta est, on verra lorsqu'il sera à la maison.

Voici une séance photo pour Hirose. A la base, monsieur devait juste porter cette chemise pour prendre quelques photos pour la critique de mon travail, mais ça a tourné en séance photo complète et relativement "sesque". Ca lui va bien la chemise ouverte avec le rosaire +_+ Le jean est de Musedoll

Vous remarquerez qu'il fait sa tronche habituelle c'est-à-dire: ravi.

Ball-jointed dolls (BJDs) ou Asian Ball-jointed Dolls (ABJDs) são bonecos com proporções reais, normalmente fabricados nos países leste-ásiaticos (primeiramente na Coréia do Sul , no Japão e China).

Esses bonecos são totalmente articulados por pequenas esferas em cada uma de suas articulações para que elas possam realizar todos os tipos de movimentações. Existem em diversos tamanhos, sendo os principais SD (Super Dollfie), que possuem de 60 a 70 cm de altura, e os MSD (Mini Super Dollfie), que possuem de 40 a 45 cm de altura.

Elas são totalmente customizáveis com cabelo, mão, pé, olhos e cabeça removíveis, são milhões de variações possíveis, e ainda contam com uma diversidade de roupas, sapatos, jóias e acessórios para transformar sua doll em algo único. As características das dolls seguem um costume asiático e lembram muito desenhos e animes. Existem também animes que falam sobre dolls como Rosen Maiden. Algumas pessoas fazem suas próprias histórias e colocam as BJDs para encena-las em estúdios de fotos - muitos que tem bjd são meio "pertubados", tem problemas, basta olhar as fotos deles na internet. Mas independente dessas pessoas eu acho as dolls muito lindas e gostaria de ter umas, só são ainda muito caras.

Muitas BJDs são feitas a mão em resina de poliuretano para dar luminosidade e pele e lembra uma boneca de porcelana, só que mais durável. Mas diferente de porcelana a resina tende a ficar amarela com o tempo se exposta a luz solar (luz ultra violeta), as bonecas lixadas tem tendência ficarem amarelas mais rápido, mas algumas bonecas vem com selante anti-UV(ultra violeta).

Algumas doll como as Obitsu 60 e Volks Dollfie Dream/DDII doll são feitas de vinyl. O que resulta em uma doll mais barata e mais leve que uma de resina, pois diferente da de resina não precisa ser feita a mão pode ser feita em uma máquina. Elas possuem suas ball joiteds(junta de bola) presas do mesmo jeito que as de resina. As Obitsu 60 e Dollfie Dream II tem uma camada de vinyl flexível para fazer a pele sobre uma camada de vinyl duro que faz o esqueleto, resultando num conjunto bastante resistente e que tem maior possibilidade de movimentação e duração. Há atualmente as doll híbridas em que a cabeça é de resina e o corpo é de vinyl tem se tornado bem popular devido ao melhor custo benefício.

Voici quelques effets que j'ai remarqué:

• Les BJD Dream of Doll: la série des Ducan/Camine. Très belles photos officielles typiques de DOD. Pour ma part, j'ai déjà donné deux fois avec eux, et ils ne m'auront plus XD

• Les yeux trop petits: pour des effets Lynsey/Belladonna/Morbidollz, particulièrement lorsqu'on a un beau ténébreux à la maison. Hop des yeux une ou deux tailles en dessous, mis en coin, et ça pète la classe ^.^ D'ailleurs, je pense que c'est un peu grâce à elles qu'il y a tant d'negouement pour le Woosoo...

• Les fur wigs: sur les Unoas principalement. Puis est venu le mohair. Ca c'est ensuite étendu aux SD. En ce moment les Unoas reviennent vers des wigs en fibre.

• Les Unoas: justement parlons-en. Depuis un an, c'est la folie, et elles pulullent ! Rareté, prix exhorbitants en seconde main, ligne de vêtements luxueuse (Mio, Brennil, Zolala, entres autres), un côté choupi-kawai irrésistible, le système de faceplates etc, contribuent à leur succès.

• Lishe / El: grâce à des custos d'enfer et de multiples facettes, se sont certainement les BJD les plus vendues et les plus communes aujourd'hui. Elles sont souvent achetées en tant que première BJD.

• Alice: la mode Alice au pays des Merveilles (et tout le gothic-lolita) est un classique et est souvent revisité par les couturièr(e)s. Il y a pleins d'idées et de moèdles magnifiques.

• Le jeans: certaines compagnies (Souldoll entre autre) s'y sont mises pour sortir des lignes de jeans fashion, avec plus ou moins de succès. Il reste les couturières comme Flonne et Mio qui se sont presque spécialisées dans ces pantalons-là ;)

• Les 70cm: aaah les délires à observer les enchères sur les Bermanns ! En début d'année, beaucoup de monde souhaitait un 70cm de Dollshe, Bermann, Hound, Bernard, etc... Des visages très doux, des mains superbes, des custos très réussies, un air presque humain, tout pour plaire.

• Les Minifées: les moules SD de Luts version mini, on iame ou pas, mais ils ont un grand succès !

•  Les Petites: de 26cm environ et moins que l'on trouve chez Leeke, Latidoll, etc...

• Les modes actuelles (je pense): les minis de SoulDoll et les BJD chinoises.

Guh. This probably makes me one of those crazy doll pervs... but I really think that Delf boy bodies are the most asthetically attractive. They might not be as muscled as some makes, or as defined. They even lack a torso joint that a lot of 60cm boys sport. But man... I find incredibly sensual lines to them... especially against a black background. Thier backs have this distinctive curve, thier thighs have bulge towards the top <3 and thier legs!!! O_O Maybe it's because I've never been a fan of the whole "perfect Ken doll image" that I feel a lot of companies try to portray. I even prefer my real life boys on the thinner side.
