What a hectic month it has been for Hall 4! The month of September saw 17 of our very own residents sworn into office and the 22^nd Junior Common Room Committee (JCRC) taking up the mantle to serve the hall for the next working year. As the Euphoria/ Mid Autumn Festival 2008 "Mirage On The Horizon" was first major event since the formation of the committee, we were all excited to catch a glimpse to what the 22^nd would offer us in the coming year.

We were not disappointed. The Social secretaries did themselves proud as our hall dressed up for this event with pretty lanterns and the awesome banner by Publicity formed the backdrop for the stage. Emceed superbly by resident linguist Royston and our eloquent Hall Queen Lu Bin, the event kicked off with Senior Hall Fellow, Prof Yap, giving a speech to the crowd of residents. While out of Pulau Nanyang, one might catch up on old times over a cup of coffee; here in Hall of Residence 4, we do it with style- we caught up over steamboat. Games were played; food was won by the respective tables. As the residents exchanged banter with each other over dinner, they were well entertained by delightful performances led by the Sing and Strum as well as the Chinese Drama. Even the occasional slight drizzle could do nothing to dampen the high spirits of the people who attended the event. The event came to an end too quickly for some with the cutting of the birthday cake for our Hall, with the birthday song led by our resident Project Superstar runner- up Nathaniel.

All in all, it was a job superbly done by the 22^nd and it surely whetted the appetites of the residents, who can only imagine and look forward to future exciting events in the year ahead.

Senza dubbio la sua grande fama è dovuta grazie alla sua tecnica e profondità musicale e al suo straordinario debutto nel 1974 con Chick Corea e "Return to Forever". Nel 1980 ha trionfato con il "Super Guitar Trio", composto, oltre che da lui, da Paco De Lucia e John McLaughlin. Nel corso della sua illustre carriera, sono sicuramente da ricordare le numerose collaborazioni tra cui spiccano nomi come Santana, Luciano Pavarotti, Paul Simon e Phil Collins. Nel 2004 ha collaborato con l'interprete sardo Andrea Parodi, con il quale ha fatto una tournè mondiale chiamata "Midnight in Sardinia". Nel 2005 è uscito l'album che raccoglie i momenti migliori di questa tournée: fra le canzoni contenute in questo album c'è Armentos, una canzone che Gino Marielli ha composto per Andrea. Di Meola ha esplorato vari stili, ma si è distinto per i suoi lavori di fusion influenzati dalla musica latina. Ha vinto per quattro volte il premio come miglior chitarrista jazz assegnato dalla rivista Guitar Player Magazine attraverso i voti dei lettori. Oltre a una prolifica carriera solista, è stato impegnato in una fruttuosa collaborazione con il bassista Stanley Clarke, il violinista Jean-Luc Ponty, e i chitarristi John McLaughlin e Paco de Lucía. Massimo Varini, classe 1970, perlopiù conosciuto per avere suonato le chitarre sui dischi di artisti del calibro di Biagio Antonacci, Andrea Bocelli, Mina, Celentano, Gianni Morandi, Marco Masini, Laura Pausini e tanti altri. La sua attività si è poi ampliata già nel 1996 in qualità di produttore artistico/arrangiatore/autore con Nek: sua la firma nella molteplice veste su tutti i grandi successi del cantautore modenese. Anche le esperienze da solista che lo vedono pubblicare nel 1995 "Progetto Fusione" un disco completamente home-made. Poi nel 1998 "Progetto Fusione II -La Vendemmia". Nel 2002 è poi la volta del disco "Massimo Varini Trio" insieme ad Andrea Rosatelli e Valter Sacripanti. Ha scritto per varie riviste (Axe, Chitarre, Guitar club, Strumenti Musicali, futura music, Rocksound etc), tenendo seminari in giro per l'Italia. Autore di diverse pubblicazioni, dal 2003 è Direttore Artistico di Sanremo Rock.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has allocated $390,000 under its Community Irrigation Fund to seven schemes, including the Strath Taieri Irrigation scheme, Dairy Creek Irrigation scheme, Mount Ida Dam and Tarras Community Water Scheme.

Two others are in Canterbury and the other in the Wairarapa.

MAF director-general Murray Sherwin said in a statement the $6.4 million fund aimed to help rural communities adapt to climate change and reduce the risk of water shortages.

The money can meet 50% of valid costs and can be put towards paying for support staff, promotional and communication activities, developing a prospectus for potential investors, investigating funding arrangements, facilitating farmer investment and to investigate multiple use of water.

This is great news and long overdue. No-one expects the tax payer to contribute to on-farm costs but the development of community irrigation schemes should be treated like other infrastructure with a public benefit.

When the North Otago Irrigation Company was doing the ground work for its scheme to pump water from the Waitaki River then pipe it under pressure to irrigate up to 20,000 hectares in the Waiareka and Kakanui Valleys there wasn't a cent of government money available.

Then Minsiter of Regional Development Jim Anderton met NOIC directors several times, accepted there was no better form of regional development foe the area, and each time he promised some assistance but never once delivered.

The NOIC Scheme which opened two years ago has provided an amazing economic, environmental and social boost not just to the valleys but the wider District too with flow-on benefits for the national economy. It would have been a bit easier for all concerned had their been the financial assistance MAF is now providing.

O2 sensor: as far as I can tell they O2 enhancer is sometimes called EFIE, rather than make a long post I found a fairly good article on the O2 sensor and plans for enhancer for use with HFE Cell.
Seems you need one of these for each O2 sensor in the vehicle, they can be combined into one box. The O2 extenders have had modest success in the exhaust O2 sensors.

MAP/MAF: I found some info on these, seem simple enough, some vehicles have both MAP & MAF sensors so that a dual control is used. Many have O2 sensors in the exhaust as well and need an O2 enhancer also.

I also found a place that sells many electronic kits for modifing and programing the sensors as well as displaying the A/F ratios: Jaycar Electronics and the prices seem more than reasonable. But remember, these are kits, and only will work as good as you assemble it.

L’evento centrale del festival è dato dall’atteso concerto che si terrà sabato 6 settembre ore 21.00, protagonista il noto chitarrista Al Di Meola, artista di indiscutibile talento che si esibirà in una formazione a quartetto, affiancato da Gumbi Ortiz, Peo Alfonsi, Fausto Beccalossi. La performance dell’Al Di Meola Acoustic Quartet sarà preceduta dall’ Opening Act con Massimo Varini (chitarra acustica). La programmazione di domenica 7 settembre prevede altri ospiti d’eccezione per i concerti serali: a partire dalle ore 21.00 infatti si esibiranno Stef Burns (chitarra elettrica) con Peppino D’Agostino (chitarra acustica), a seguire un suggestivo momento musicale sullo swing anni Trenta con Anita Cammarella & Davide Facchini duo, poi a conclusione della serata una particolarissima formazione che proporrà una rivisitazione in chiave moderna dei classici della musica, con Patrick Rondat alla chitarra elettrica e Hervè N’Kaoua al pianoforte (repertorio: Vivaldi, Mozart e Beethoven). Lunedì 8 Settembre ore 21.00, sarà ancora di scena Stef Burns, questa volta con il suo gruppo, Stef Burns Group, costituito insieme a Juan van Emmerloot (batteria), Walter Latupeirissa (basso) e Fabio Valdemarin (tastiere). Numerosi poi gli eventi musicali in programma negli spazi del Castello durante le mattine e i pomeriggi delle due giornate, secondo una straordinaria varietà di generi e di proposte. Accanto ai concerti e ai momenti musicali, sarà privilegiata la forma del seminario che già nelle precedenti edizioni del festival aveva suscitato particolare interesse, proprio per la caratteristica di avvicinare attraverso la spiegazione e il dialogo gli artisti ospiti con un pubblico assai vario, comprendente sia giovani musicisti, sia appassionati e cultori dei vari generi affrontati. Ecco dunque alcuni dei protagonisti: Andrea Palazzo (chitarra elettrica), Francesco Faldani (chit. acustica), Stef Burns (chit. elettrica), Giovanni Baglioni (chit. acustica), Donato Begotti (chit. elettrica), Convergenze Parallele (genere monouche), Massimo Varini (chit. acustica), Billy Sheehan (basso), Peppino D’Agostino (chit. acustica), Patrick Rondat (chit. elettrica). Durante la giornata di Sabato, alle ore 17.00, Al Di Meola incontrerà il suo pubblico. Inoltre, presso il Cafè Teatro di Fiorano Modenese, il Sabato e la Domenica sera alle 19.00 Aperitivo in Musica in compagnia dei musicisti del MAF. The Managed Add-in Framework defines a programming model, built on top of .NET that allows applications to dynamically load and communicate with generic components at runtime. We provide a solution for creating independently versioning, mutually distrustful components, and allow them to work together. We tackle the two problematic – versioning and isolation – together.

At PDC05, Thomas Quinn, an architect on our team, responsible for VSTO and VSTA, and Jim Miller, a CLR architect, responsible for several platform components related to versioning support in the CLR, among other things, jointly presented the platform framework for managed Addin’s. See the PDC FUN309 session.

What is an Add-In?

An add-in is traditionally thought of as custom code (a customization), written by a third party that is loaded and activated by a Host application (Word, Excel, etc…) upon the host starting up. The host makes their programmable API (Object Model) available to the customization assembly. In the case of the Office host applications, the Application object, which is the root of the hierarchical object model, is made available to the Add-in. I will use “Addin” in a more generic sense to mean code that is discovered based upon some event (The host Starting up, the loading of a document, etc..). Later, I will argue that this definition is too narrow.

Behavior

Note that the definition I just articulated was a dynamic loading mechanism as opposed to static. An Addin is also generally loaded into the host’s process. This requirement then adds the concern of isolation. The host needs to be isolated from errant behavior of the Addin and Addin’s should in many cases, be isolated from each other. Although it is implied, the two components also need to agree on some communication protocol (a contract).

An Addin should be able to be loaded/unloaded of its own accord or loaded/unloaded by the host.
The requirement to Load/Unload Addin’s dynamically, adds the further requirement that the Host and Addin need to version independently.

Contracts
Pre-defined interfaces used as explicit, agreed upon protocols for communication between two endpoints.

• All user defined contracts derive from IContract the base interface.
• A Contract is roughly analogous to a COM Interface.
• Possibly a better description from Thomas Quinn (aka TQ), “A Contract is any .NET interface, derived from IContract (to be defined), and having the following properties: it never versions beyond servicing, the containing assembly contains only other Contracts or non-versioning types, and it exposes in its method signatures only other Contracts, or fully known, loadable, and serializable type. It explicitly cannot contain the types System.Object, System.Type, System.MarshalByRefObject, any type from System.Reflection nor delegates or events, nor any other type which may cause the exposure of an implementation type”

Adapters

• Implement contracts.
• Adapters serve the purpose of adapting between a friendly .NET Framework based programming model on each end and the less friendly, and more restricted contracts in the middle. Adapters are the object model.
• Similar in concept to web services. Although MAF is designed for Object Oriented services versus a Services Oriented model. We have worked with the Indigo team (aka. Windows Communications Foundation) on ensuring the two models are in alignment and they will continue to evolve in conjunction with each other. In a nutshell, both models prescribe an explicit understanding of boundaries (web service boundaries are machine), proxy generation, agreed upon contracts, separation of the definition and implementation and consumption, etc…

Proxies

• Consume (call into) contracts.
• Exposes an object oriented, .NET Friendly surface to its consumers (Add-in’s).
• Similar in concept to consuming web services.
• Makes requests across the App Domain boundary.

.Net platform libraries

System.AddIn.dll and the System.AddIn namespace

• The NS will first be made available to the public in the VSTA/O12 release in the second half of 2006.
• The VSTA product and MAF have been announced at PDC 2005.
• First available in VSTA/O12 and then made available broadly in Orcas as part of the platform (CLR).
• This System.AddIn.dll is the Add-in loader
• An Add-in is any component that is discovered and loaded at runtime by a hosting application and that version separately from the hosting application. The loader is the component that is responsible for the App domain creation utilizing a customizable security manager, loads and activates Addin's in specified App domains and provides Add-in unloading of specified App domains. The level of unloading in the CLR is by process or AppDomain.

System.Addin.Contract

• This dll may not version (first tenant of a contract).
• First available in VSTA/O12 and then made available broadly in Orcas as part of the platform (CLR),
• Defines base contract IContract
• Provides a remote kind of reflection. The contracts mimic the similarly named types in the System.Reflection namespace without providing the full implementation. The goal here is to be able to invoke methods and properties, set and get fields and handle events on objects across the remoting boundary without having direct access to that object’s Type. We provide a remote type surrogate that performs the duties of Type and its friends.

Dairy

• Dairy export earnings are projected to peak next year at $12 billion - more than 40% higher than earnings two years ago.
• Dairy export earnings are projected to ease back to $10.5 billion in 2010 before rising again to just under $12 billion by 2012.
• The weighted average payout (net of industry goods levy) for the next four years averages around $6 - significantly higher than the previous five year period. Detailed payout projections are $6.90 (2009), $5.78 (2010), $5.98 (2011), $6.32 (2012).
• Demand is growing from new markets in China and OPEC countries. OPEC countries account for 21% of New Zealand's total dairy exports.
• The South Island continues to drive dairy herd expansion. The South Island herd grew by 13% last year - 31% of New Zealand's dairy herd is now in the South Island.

Beef

• Manufacturing beef (a type of minced beef) prices are expected to rise by more than 30% over the five year forecast period.
• Beef export volumes are projected to fall by about 2% next year due to drought but to grow back to 2007 levels by the end of the five year forecast period.
• Export returns currently at $1.5 billion are expected to climb steadily to $2.26 billion by 2012.

Lamb

• Sheep numbers were down 4% at June 2007.
• The drought and recent low prices are pushing further declines in sheep numbers - adult sheep slaughter increased by 28% for the year ended June 2008.
• Lower stock numbers and lower weights mean lamb export volumes are projected to fall through the five year period by 11% to 287 000 tonnes.
• Higher prices are set to push overall export earnings over the same period up by 25% from the current $2.1 billion to $2.6 billion.

Wool

• The average wool sale price is projected to rise by just over 40% over the next five years to $5.35 per kilogram.
• Wool volumes are projected to plateau as falling sheep numbers balance higher prices at 142 000 tonnes.
• After an initial fall export earnings are projected to grow by 29% over the five year period to $795 million.

Forestry

• Log prices and pulp prices are both projected to climb by more than 30% over the next five years.
• Timber and panel export prices are projected to fall before recovering but volumes remain relatively flat over the next five years.
• Overall forestry export returns are projected to grow from $3.3 billion in 2008 to $4.5 billion in 2012.

Wine

• Wine grapes are now the largest single horticultural crop in New Zealand at more than 25 000 hectares.
• A big harvest this year will boost export volumes by 30% in next year and increased plantings will push exports up by more than 50% by 2012.
• The value of wine exports is projected to rise by 76% to $1.3 billion by 2012.
• Sauvignon Blanc makes up 75% of wine exports and is New Zealand's largest wine export followed by Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Merlot.

Kiwifruit

• The current average price of $8.1 per tray of kiwifruit is projected to grow to $10.7 a tray by 2012.
• Predicted kiwifruit export volumes remain static at just under 100 million trays over the next five years.
• Kiwifruit export returns are projected to grow from $779 million dollars to $1.06 billion by 2012. 

MAF's assumptions are based on expectations for "normal" climatic conditions with no allowance for domestic or international natural disasters nor major economic changes. Projections are based on Treasury's exchange rate assumptions from the 2008 Budget.

Un po' di teoria: la messa a fuoco

Nell'immagine qui sotto riportata (presa da qua) sono riportate le grandezze fondamentali dell'ottica con la notazione comunemente utilizzata. Ricordo che un obiettivo è normalmente composto da più lenti, ma in prima approssimazione e per gli scopi di quest'articolo può essere assimilato ad una lente sottile.

Quindi u è la distanza dell'oggetto dall'asse della lente, v è la distanza dell'immagine virtuale dall'asse della lente e f è la lunghezza focale dell'obiettivo. Qui sono riportati sia f1 che f2, per i calcoli seguenti a noi interessa solamente f2, di seguito f. L'altra distanza focale può essere di interesse nel caso di utilizzo dell'obiettivo invertito.

C'è una precisa relazione che lega le grandezze sopra indicate, relazione conosciuta come equazione dei punti coniugati, che è la seguente:

$latex 1/u + 1/v = 1/f$

Questo è tutto quanto dovete sapere. Come si fa a mettere a fuoco un oggetto? Beh, diciamo che sia all'infinito. Allora $latex 1/u = 0$ e di conseguenza $latex v = f$, ossia la lente proietta l'immagine a fuoco a una distanza pari alla lunghezza focale.

Man mano che l'oggetto si avvicina f rimane ovviamente costante, di conseguenza l'immagine a fuoco viene proiettata dietro il piano del sensore. E' quindi necessario allontanare la lente dal piano sensore. Questa distanza aggiuntiva si chiama estensione (in inglese bellows extension), di seguito la indicherò con $latex x$. Qualcuno la chiama tiraggio ma è scorretto, il tiraggio è la distanza dalla flangia del bocchettone al piano del sensore (in inglese flanged focal distance), e ovviamente è una caratteristica fissa dell'obiettivo, legata al tipo di attacco (es. Canon EOS ad esempio). Come avrete capito, il metodo più semplice per aumentare l'estensione è piazzarci un bel tubo di prolunga, ossia un tubo privo di elementi ottici di lunghezza predeterminata.

Abbiamo quindi capito che per mettere a fuoco un oggetto vicino bisogna estendere l'obiettivo. Fisicamente il metodo più semplice è di montare l'obiettivo su un elicoide che ruotando sposta il gruppo ottico avanti e indietro (questa modalità di messa a fuoco si chiama unit focusing). Di quanto si deve muovere? Non è difficile da calcolare: prendiamo un 100mm. All'infinito abbiamo

$latex 0 + 1/v = 1/100 \rightarrow v = 100$

Avviciniamo il soggetto. A 1m vale: $latex 1/1000 + 1/v = 1/100 \rightarrow 1/v = 0,009 \rightarrow v=111,111$

Da cui la mia estensione $latex x$ vale 11,11mm (per differenza tra 100 e 111,11).

E se mi avvicino a 0,3 metri (distanza decisamente bassa per un 100mm)?

Facile: $latex 1/300 + 1/v = 1/100 \rightarrow v=150$

Da cui la mia estensione $latex x$ vale 50mm

Quindi? Man mano che mi avvicino il mio obiettivo si deve allungare un bel po'. Non solo, provate a rifare i calcoli utilizzando una focale molto più spinta, i valori dell'estensione da aggiungere crescono rapidamente. E la macro dove la mettiamo in tutto questo, direte voi?

Il rapporto di riproduzione e i tubi di prolunga

E' questo uno dei parametri fondamentali nella fotografia macro. Si intende per rapporto di riproduzione il rapporto tra la dimensione del soggetto e il rapporto dell'immagine del soggetto sul sensore. Sempre facendo riferimento all'immagine sopra, può essere definito come $latex m=v/u$.

Gli obiettivi standard raggiungono normalmente rapporti di riproduzione pari a 0,1. Perché? Per due motivi fondamentali:

1. incrementare m implica utilizzare elicoidi di messa a fuoco;
2. la correzione dell'aberrazione sferica è ottima solo fino a questi livelli di ingrandimento, superarli può richiedere ottimizzazioni specifiche dell'obiettivo (come nel caso dei macro)

Eh già, tenete sempre in mente che gli obiettivi sono sempre ottimizzati per specifici rapporti di riproduzione! Un buon macro raggiunge facilmente l'1:1, qualcuno si ferma a 1:2 (es il 50 macro di casa Canon)

Cerchiamo di integrare un po' le informazioni che abbiamo: sostituendo $latex u = v/m$ nell'equazione dei punti coniugati si ottiene facilmente la seguente relazione:

$latex m = v/f - 1$

Facciamo allora due conti con il 100mm di cui sopra: a 1m di distanza m vale $latex 111,111/100 - 1 = 0,111$. Valore ragionevole: il 100/2 Canon ha un m di 0,14 a 0,9 metri (NB l'obiettivo è IF quindi i calcoli non sono esattamente validi, inoltre il valore di distanza dichiarato è la distanza soggetto sensore quindi $latex u+v$, ma in prima approssimazione è un risultato accettabile).

A 0,3 metri si ottiene $latex m=150/100-1=0,5$. Se voglio l'1:1 mi servono (evidentemente) 100mm di estensione.

Ecco perché si dice normalmente che per ottenere l'1:1 è necessario aggiungere un'estensione pari alla lunghezza focale. Una precisazione : questo è strettamente vero con l'obiettivo con messa a fuoco all'infinito, in realtà si può ottenere meglio mettendo a fuoco alla distanza minima.

Da questo deriva una conseguenza fondamentale: è molto più facile ottenere alti m con focali corte.

Con un 200mm servono infatti 200mm di estensione, con un 50mm solo 50.

Facciamo un esempio: prendiamo il Canon 50/1.8, un ottimo candidato per l'uso in macro in quanto economico, leggero e di ottima qualità anche "intubato". Di suo raggiunge un m pari a 0,15 a 450mm di distanza. Quindi $latex v=f(m+1)=50 \times (0,15 +1) = 57,5mm$, ossia con un'estensione di 7,5mm.

Immaginiamo di avere un bel set di tubi Kenko da 12, 20 e 36mm. Vogliamo fare una bella macro in prossimità dell'1:1, quindi montiamo il 36 e il 12mm, per una estensione totale di 48mm.

Sappiamo che focalizzando all'infinito abbiamo un ingrandimento pari a: $latex m = \frac{50 + 48}{50} -1 = 0,96$. Se invece focalizziamo alla minima distanza (abbiamo visto che in questa condizione si aggiungono 7,5mm di estensione) si ottiene un valore di $latex m = \frac{50 + 48 + 7,5}{50} -1 = 1,11$.

La distanza di lavoro

Quindi abbiamo capito una cosa o due, spero:

1. i tubi sono elementi vuoti che allontanano l'obiettivo dal piano focale
2. ciò permette di focalizzare più vicino
3. più tubi metto più ottengo rapporti di riproduzione elevati
4. più tubi metto più vicino mi trovo al soggetto

I punti 3 e 4 sono intimamente collegati: l'ingrandimento è infatti legato a distanza focale e distanza di ripresa, usando focali più lunghe posso avere il medesimo ingrandimento da una maggiore distanza. NOTA BENE: fissata f e la distanza di lavoro m è univocamente definito. L'unica differenza tra un'ottica normale e un'ottica macro è quindi la capacità di mettere a fuoco a distanza ravvicinata

Succede ovviamente una cosa fastidiosa: più ingrandisco più mi devo avvicinare al soggetto. Di quanto? La distanza di lavoro nel nostro caso è u, quindi dall'equazione dei punti coniugati e dalla definizione di m si può ricavare $latex u=\frac{f(m+1)}{m}$. Tornano i conti? Vediamo il 50/1.8: la distanza di lavoro è di 450mm, da cui togliamo la lunghezza dell'obiettivo (41mm), per cui il nostro u dovrebbe valere circa $latex 450 - 41 = 409 mm$.

Dalla formula proposta $latex (50 \times 1,15) / (0,15) = 383mm$, mica male visto che si tratta di una stima approssimata :-)

Torniamo al nostro 50/1.8 intubato. La distanza di lavoro sarà in questo caso di $latex u = 50 \times (0,96+1) / 0,96 = 102mm$ che depauperato della lunghezza dell'obiettivo si riduce a soli 61mm, più o meno coerente con quanto da me misurato. Nota bene che non si può intubare all'infinito, prima o poi l'oggetto da riprendere cadrà all'interno dell'obiettivo!

CAVEAT: quanto riportato è ovviamente approssimativo. Canon fornisce a catalogo una distanza di messa a fuoco che non si sa bene a cosa corrisponda (bisogna togliere anche il tiraggio della baioneta dalle formule di cui sopra?). Inoltre gli obiettivi non sono ovviamente infinitamente sottili ma hanno uno spessore ben preciso :-)

Già da quanto scritto si intuisce che intubare un obiettivo di focale lunga non porta a sensibili vantaggi. Proviamo con un 200mm (nota bene, tutti i 200mm recenti non sono unit focusing quindi la trattazione è più complessa, vedi capitolo sotto sugli obiettivi internal focusing).

Il Canon 200/2.8, ad esempio, ha un m dichiarato di 0,16 a una distanza di 1500mm. L'obiettivo è lungo 136mm.

Intubiamolo con 48mm di tubi: $latex m = 248/200-1= 0,24$ che è ancora molto poco. La distanza di lavoro si riduce a $latex (200 \times 1,16 / 0,16) -136 = 1450 - 136 = 1314mm$.

Se saliamo al 300mm la cosa peggiora ancora. Su queste lunghezze consiglio assai l'utilizzo di un moltiplicatore, piuttosto, e/o di una lente aggiuntiva.

Éste fue el texto de la presentación del Premio: L’Associació Catalana de Comptabilitat i Direcció d’Empreses (ACCID) ha acordat concedir el Premi a l’excel·lència acadèmica in memoriam   al professor Magí Pont Mestres, traspassat el darrer 9 de març de 2008, per tal de reconèixer una vida íntegrament dedicada a l’activitat professional com assessor d’empreses i com advocat, com catedràtic de Dret tributari i com un actiu promotor de l’Auditoria de  Comptes al nostre país en els anys dels pioners, els anteriors a la Llei d’Auditoria de 1988. En particular, l’ACCID vol destacar la defensa constant que el professor Pont Mestres va fer de l’autonomia de la Comptabilitat enfront de la Fiscalitat i també la doctrina exposada amb reiteració  pedagògica de la dignitat del bon contribuent que mereix  ser tractat amb respecte per l’Administració tributària. La projecció del pensament científic de Magí Pont Mestres il·luminarà durant molts anys la nostra activitat, com volem ara simbolitzar amb aquest guardó, recollit pel seu fill Magí Pont Clemente.   

One of the big problems of an Addin situation is if we change the contract between our Addins and our host. This can happen for a number of reasons - added functionality, removed functionality, the dreaded security etc... So, we change our contract and OH NOES! break all the AddIns we've carefully nurtured to maturity.

Luckily the guys who developed the MAF have come up with a solution to this, and it all lies with the pipeline.........

Previously we had the IHelloMAF contract:

Obviously this gives us a limited set of functionality, so lets add a little bit more:

This will give us the power to accept inputs! Of course, this is just the contract, the detail is in the actual implementation itself.

If I simply update the contract and rebuild the pipeline, then my previously created AddIn will stuff up as it implements the old contract, I would have to change the AddIn to implement the new version, but I don't or maybe *can't* do that.

What does that mean for the development? Basically, we need to create another adapter, one to convert version 1 addins to work as a version 2 addin. To do this, we use the Pipeline builder, it saves a lot of time and effort in the long run. We need to be able to tell the Pipeline builder that, actually, generate a new AddInView, not overwrite the existing one. To do this, we reference in the PipelineHints dll (this is in the location you installed the PipeLine builder - in my case: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Visual Studio Pipeline Builder\PipelineHints.dll).

Once we have the hints dll referenced we can go to our Contract file and put the following in:

What this effectively does is force the Pipeline builder to create the AddInView segment for this contract, but name it 'AddInView2' rather than it's default 'AddInView'.

If we now run the Pipeline builder, we will generate some new projects, including 'AddInView2', note - the 'AddInView' project is still there, aces!

After this we need to update the host to cope with the new contract (** IF we changed the contract name, if we didn't then no updates required **), should be pretty simple.

We can then create a new AddIn, based off of the new contract, and once we've done that, run the host and load up our new AddIn. All should be working!

But the version 1 addin isn't showing - this is expected at the moment. The pipeline builder has only created a pipeline for the new style of Addin. What we need to develop is a v1 addin to v2 addin adapter. The easiest thing to do is copy from the AddInSideAdapters project.

We create a new Class Library project, calling it something like AddInV1ToV2Adapter, which gives us a good start point.
Add in references to:
System.AddIn
System.AddIn.Contract
AddInView (the version 1 addin!)
Contracts
(Again, Copy to local = FALSE!!)

Then opening the AddInSideAdapters project, copy the IXXXViewToContractAddIn.cs contents and paste them into your 'Class1.cs' file. Now we just need to edit the code to do our translation, so.. first things first, rename the class, doesn't really matter what it's called!

You should find the only thing you really need to change is the implementation of the methods, so in our example, we'd have:

Rebuild the entire solution and run the host... Now our host detects 2 AddIns, which is perfect!
