Built by renowned yacht builders Feadship in the Royal van Lent shipyard in 1990 this 62m super yacht has been constructed in a classic style. Boasting a library with built in book cases and an indoor fire place the Virginian offers guests a cosy yet luxurious yachting experience.

Powered by 2 MAN 1,630hp engines she has a maximum speed of 15 knots. With a fuel capacity of 136,260 litres and a water capacity of 51,000 litres the Virginian has a range of 7,000 nautical miles. Her water makers are able to produce 26,000 litres of fresh water per day.

Up to 12 guests can be accommodated in 6 luxurious cabins. There are 3 double and 3 twin cabins with a crew of 18. The master suite has a bath carved from a single piece of Aurora marble standing on an octopus-mosaic floor, and a mirror that slides back to reveal ocean views.

The dining area has a retractable awning and there is a library with built in book cases. Once outside there is a vast deck, a Jacuzzi and a helipad.

For entertainment on and off the yacht there is a 21ft Boston Whaler with 225hp outboard, a 21ft Van Wijk classic motor launch with teak decks and trim, a 16ft Novurania tender with 90hp motor, a 13ft Novurania tender with 50hp motor, 2 Yamaha 700 wave riders, 2 windsurfers, 3 kayaks, water-skis, donuts, wake boards, fishing equipment, two 50cc mopeds, 6 sets of scuba gear, Satellite TV, TV / Video in cabins, Midi hi-fi systems in cabins and a 6ft Sony TV projector.

The Virginian is currently on sale for 43,500,000 Euros.

Russian billionaire and Chelsea soccer club owner Roman Abramovich is building a $400 million mega-yacht. Yawn, you say? You have two? OK, well, this yacht has its own submarine. And armor plating with bulletproof glass. And little boats that fit inside the bigger boat. And a frickin' missile defense system that will alert he and his crew of 70 former SAS soldiers that there be pirates in those waters. It should be noted that Abramovich's other yachts—the 377 ft. Pelorus, 282ft Ecstasea and 160ft Sussurro—all pale in comparison to the 550 ft. Eclipse, and do not include missile detection systems. You can never be too safe, right?

The Eclipse, so named because Abramovich desires that it overshadow all other boats at sea, also includes an escape submarine, just in case pirates or other rapscallions make it on board. The submarine seats two, so Abramovich and his gorgeous girlfriend Daria Zhukova, 26, can make a hasty flight to safer waters or go down to 160 ft. deep while his hired guns secure the decks.

Tom Perkins, who made millions in Silicon Valley, is also an author ("Sex and the Single Zillionaire," a novel; and "Valley Boy," a memoir). An admirer of fast cars and boats, Tom is also the former husband of mega-novelist Danielle Steel.

The Maltese Falcon at 289 feet long, is the largest privately owned yacht in the world. Maximum speed is 18.5 knots, and the vessel has a range of 3,000 miles at 14 knots.

The mega-yacht also has two smaller tenders, each one about 32 feet long, to take passengers ashore when it is anchored.

The Maltese Falcon's sails are pretty unusual as well. Mounted on three unstayed masts made of carbon fiber, the yachts he sails furl and unfurl at the touch of a button. The Maltese Falcon has a crew of 20, , and accommodates 12 guests.

Tom Perkins apparently offered the Maltese Falcon for sale earlier this year for $169 million or so, but he has taken it off the market, and taken a partner.

The Maltese Falcon also includes an onboard gourmet chef and stewards and stewardesses.

On the crew list we noticed the only women on the crew were stewardesses!  Looks like old Tom Perkins doesn't trust a woman to do more than serve food on his beloved boat.  Get with the times Tom!

The Maltese Falcon was built after the Dynaship or Dyna-Rigg concept, a 1960 invention of the German engineer Wilhelm Prölss which was intended to operate commercial freight sailing ships with as few crew as possible. The ship has fifteen square sails (five per mast), stored inside the mast; they can fully unfurl into tracks along the yards in six minutes. The three carbon fiber masts, which are free-standing and able to rotate, were manufactured and assembled by a company financed by Perkins at the Perini Navi Istanbul Yildiz Gemi (star ship) yard in Tuzla, 50 miles south of Istanbul, Turkey, under the supervision of the English company Insensys and Dutch company Gerard Dijkstra & Partners. Other design was provided by Ken Freivokh Design. The Falcon was the third yacht built by Perini for Perkins.

The Maltese Falcon yacht is easily controlled and has been seen to sail off her anchor and away from berths within harbors. The yacht's sophisticated computer detects parameters such as wind speed automatically and displays key data, however Kristenson does not permit the computer to actually sail the yacht. An operator must always activate the controls, yet it is possible for a single person to pilot the mega-yacht.

The Maltese Falcon has two 1800 horse-power Deutz engines running at 1800 rpm with a top speed of 20 knots with minimal wave-making and virtually no vibration or noise and with a smooth and non-turbulent wake.

The sailboat has a permanent crew of 18 to maintain the technical aspects including the rig and to operate the onboard "hotel", which can accommodate twelve guests plus four guest staff. The boat also includes an onboard gourmet chef and stewards and stewardesses.

Maltese Falcon Dyna-Rigg Sailing System

Insensys Team, including Damon Roberts designed and manufactured the Maltese Falcon Dyna-Riggs in the Tuzla ship yard, Turkey. The design, testing and manufacturing of the rigs was completed over a three year period. All aspects of the rigs were incorporated and tested to ensure that the design and Finite element analysis matched the actual loads whilst sailing.

The DYNARIG owes its origin to work done in the sixties by Mr W. Prolls, at the time he believed the system could provide additional propulsion for ships. The DynaRig is effectively a square rig, the mast is freestanding and the yards are connected rigidly to the mast, in this case each mast supports six yards. The yards, unlike a conventional square rigger, have built in camber of 12%. The sails set between the yards in such a way that when deployed there are no gaps to the sail plan enabling each spar's sail plan to work as a single sail. The sails, when not deployed, furl into the mast. The sail is trimmed to the wind direction by rotating the mast. As there is no rigging the yards have no restriction on rotation and this taken together with the curved (shaped) yards, low windage and effective single piece sail combine to give the rig improved aerodynamic efficiency compared to a traditional square rigger.

The Masts are approximately 58m in height above the bottom bearing. The DynaRig concept calls for an elongated section (to reduce the drag) and this needs to be symmetrical as the rig can be tacked to allow flow in both directions, the mast rotates about deck and heel bearings.

Insensys have also incorporated their fiber optical strain monitoring system that monitors the loads on the rigs to ensure that the carbon structures are never overloaded whilst the yacht is sailing. The Fiber Bragg grating system was embedded within the rigs during manufacturing process of the carbon structure. The system monitors the strains in real time and transmits the loads to the bridge such that they are understood whilst sailing.

This is A, a giga-yacht that looks like a cross between a First World War battlecruiser, a submarine, and a spaceship. The A is 387 foot long, with three pools, one master suite, six guest suites, and rooms for 42 staff. Or 42 trained evil Spectra ninjas. The scale of this thing is just mind-blowing, you just have to look closely at the side gate, which seems big enough to hold a dozen of torpedo boats.

Richard Branson, chairman of the Virgin Group has announced that he'll attempt to break the record for a trans-Atlantic crossing in a single-hulled sailing boat.  Tagging along on the trip will be his 26 year old daughter, Holly, and 23 year old son, Sam.

The 99 foot boat Virgin Money will be co-skippered by Mike Sanderson, Team Director of TEAMORIGIN, the British America's Cup challenger. The crew will sail the 99-foot yacht 'Virgin Money' from New York Harbor to the most southwesterly point in Britain. He called the record of six days, 17 hours, 52 minutes and 39 seconds, 'the greatest sailing record of all.' 'I realized I couldn't resist,' Branson said of the call he got a few weeks ago to participate in the adventure. They plan to set sail sometime in the next few weeks when the weather is right. They are watching to see whether a hurricane comes far enough north to help power their sails.

Johnny Depp, star of 'Pirates of the Caribbean',  was first seen vacationing on his yacht with Vanessa in the Mediterranean near the island of Elba.  Elba is Italian just of Sardinia  - between the French Island of Corsica and the Italian mainland near to Pisa, Tuscany.  Napoleon Bonaparte was famously was excelled there.

Johnny Depp actually owns the luxury motor yacht and he called it Vajoliroja.  It was built by Proteksan Turquoise was built in turkey in 2001 and is a large modern classic luxury superyacht 47m (156ft)  long.

The name Vajoliroja is a combination of Johnny's family's names. Va for Vanessa, Jo for Johnny, LiRo for his 9 year old daughter Lily Rose and Ja for his son Jack. It sounds like ‘The Jolly Roger’ if you say it just right.

Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp have been in a relationship since 1998. Vanessa Chantal Paradis is a French singer and actress who won the 2008 Victoire De La Musique Female Performer of the Year and Pop Album of the Year.

A joint venture of New York City-based ING Clarion LLC and locally based Flagstone Property Group plans to begin construction in summer 2008 on Island Gardens. The $600-million, mixed-use project is rising on Watson Island in Biscayne Bay. The project is slated for completion in 2010.

The project, located on 10.5 acres of previously undeveloped land, will feature a 43-story building with the 150-room Shangri-La Hotel and fractional ownership homes, called the Residences at Island Gardens, atop the hotel. It will also feature a 29-story business hotel/resort and the 50-slip Super-Yacht Harbour; CHI, the Spa at Shangri-La; and 221,000 sf of retail and restaurant space. Watson Island is situated between Downtown Miami and South Beach and is accessible by automobile via MacArthur Causeway (Interstate 395, the extension of Interstate 95 to South Beach.)

Flagstone Property Group chairman and CEO Mehmet Bayraktar tells GlobeSt.com that marketing efforts for the fractional units have started with prices ranging from $175,000 to $750,000 for a one-eighth interest. Final discussions are under way with the operator of the hotel/resort in the 29-story tower (announced at Art Basel as the Shangri-La Hotel Group).

Bayraktar adds that the retail space is not within the towers, but in separate structures alongside the retail avenue that runs between the two towers. Marketing efforts for the retail and dining space have recently commenced and several letters of intent have been received from restaurateurs and retailers. The positioning of the retail will be high-end luxury goods.

The project, located within minutes of Downtown Miami and Miami Beach, will feature unobstructed views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline. “With its potential to transform the Miami skyline, we expect the complex to become one of the premiere leisure and hospitality addresses in the city,” says ING Clarion managing director Edward Rotter, in a released statement.

The Super Yacht Harbor will be the only marina in North America to be able to accommodate mega-yachts up to 300 feet in length. A 100-foot, set-back landscaped promenade will extend along the 1,000 foot length of the sea wall. The project is being designed by London-based Eric Kuhne & Associates with interiors by Italy-based Piero Lissoni.
