...errr... I mean, handsome. Look what Miles is doing now! He sat for 2 whole minutes today :) We are just thrilled. He has already completed 3 of the goals that his Early Intervention team set for him to complete in the next 6 months! Sitting, self feeding and babbling with consonants. Our little guy is really taking off! And today we learned that he loooooves pickles.

A golfer can now easily make arrangements for a fabulous luxury break by visiting a specialist website. The great advantage in doing this rather than trying to piece together individual components of your holiday is that this method offers a seamless ‘one stop shop’ to golfing bliss.

Golfing aficionados have long been known to take their sport very seriously indeed, often traveling many miles and going through many a hardship for the love of their sport.

But oh, how times have changed! Now golfers can indulge their passion in style whilst indulging themselves at the same time, by booking themselves onto a luxury golf break.

With such a demand for golf holidays abroad most warm weather holiday destinations in Europe have now started promoting golf holidays. When you start searching on the internet for golf holidays most European countries now get listed. Majorca and Mallorca have for years been recognized as great holiday destinations popular with the young and old alike.

Many Europeans now come to England on golf holidays. England has many golf courses and tourists are attracted to play golf in England by the different types of golf courses. Some golfers like to play on the parkland courses for some of their golfing break and then try their hand on the more trickier links courses. It is quite ironic that many English golfers now fly to warmer countries on golfing holidays and at the same time Europeans fly back to England.

Many of the golf courses in Scotland are set in superb surroundings and golfers on holiday are amazed by the views and scenery. Many of the links courses are well known around the world and some offer breath taking views out to the sea. Some golfers come on holiday to Scotland just to say that they have played golf here on some of these world famous links courses.

If you have been on a golf holiday to Scotland and enjoyed it, you must then try going to play golf in Ireland. Ireland claims to have just as good a selection of golf course as Scotland and many Americans like to go to Ireland on golf holidays.

Earlier this week, we blogged about Nate Miles, the UCONN first year player expelled by the university for violating the terms of a restraining order http://ctsportslaw.com/2008/10/07/suspension-of-nate-miles-rocks-uconn/. It appears that Mr. Miles' legal saga is continuing both in the Courts and at UCONN.

Earlier this week, neither Miles nor the Complainant appeared in Rockville Superior Court when the civil case was called by Judge Holly Abery-Wetstone. While this does not directly impact the criminal proceeding, the Judge did dismiss the civil claims pertaining to the initial restraining order.

Miles is still expected to appear in criminal court in November. However, the criminal charge can also be dismissed if Miles completes certain counseling requirements.

On the University front, today was the deadline for Miles to appeal his expulsion. Both his guardian and attorney, Rob Britt, were rumored to be in the process of preparing such an appeal. We will keep you posted as this story develops

___________________________________________________________________________________________

In a more positive story, former UCONN linebacker Danny Lansanah has been signed by the Green Bay Packers after spending the start of the season on the practice squad. http://www.kffl.com/player/19346/NFL The Harrisburg, PA native was a UCONN Captain, first team Big East performer and former team MVP. Details of his contract were not disclosed.

22 lbs.. Let's see, that sounds kind of familiar. I'm pretty sure that Greta weighed 22 lbs at her 2 year doctor's appointment. We just got home from Miles' 9 month appointment and he weighs 22 lbs. Now. At 9 months. Greta never had fat rolls, and let me just say that I am loving my chubby little baby!

Dr. Ebers said that he is so pleased with Miles' physical development, but that he is even more pleased with his cognitive development. Music to my ears. His 9 month official stats are 22 lbs, .5 oz (75th percentile), 30 1/2" long (95th percentile) and head circumference 52 cm (we won't get into that one :))

Here's a photo of the chub working on sitting with his therapy pads.

Here is a photo of Miles snuggling with his Nana. Greta gets to go stay with Nana and Grandpa for the weekend this weekend! She is so excited and reminds me of it every 5 minutes or so. Joe and I are looking forward to having some time alone with just Miles. Nana is one of those special people who is always looking for ways to help out. Whenever they come to visit our house- she always sneaks off and does something like- cleaning the refrigerator or cleaning out the entire garage. We love that Nana is such a caring hard worker, but she looks pretty snuggly, too :)

Customer acquisition continues to be a primary focus of most organizations. Whether in a start-up phase or a Fortune-ranked company, inclusive of most every industry including legal, healthcare, technology, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and services, all have a desire and need to acquire new clients and customers. Done successfully, customer acquisition has proven to be one of the key factors in the success of an organization. If disappointing results are delivered the impact may be significant and potentially fatal.

Executives are searching for ways to open new doors, speed up their sales cycles, gain new clients and book more revenue. The economy is dictating that organizations do more with less. Globalization is creating more competition for customers. Large companies are moving down market while smaller companies are moving their focus up market. Traditional methods of client acquisition have been falling short for some time.

With the exponential growth of data available on the web, tools, strategies, process and techniques are available today that possess game-changing possibilities for those that embrace these developments and leverage this new information to enhance the processes used to obtain new clientele. Enterprise Intelligence, Social Media, Online Databases, Blogs, Mashups, Software delivered via the Web (SaaS), Cloud Computing, RSS feeds, Podcasts, Online Video and more provide a depth of actionable information and capabilities that, if harnessed, has the potential to alter the competitive landscape within a short period of time.

WIth a backdrop of over 20 years of active involvement in sales and sales management, I look forward to sharing with you some of the most significant tools and technology that has ever been available to salesmakers. I look forward to your comments and contribution as we explore this exiting next wave of selling.

Poor Miles. He's going on 1 year old and boy has it been a roller coaster of a year.

First, who knows what kind of conditions he was born into...all I know is that he, his siblings and parents were sent to the animal shelter. (Which, I just can't believe. This gorgeous, smart, funny dog could not be here today. Insane.) This is where he was picked up by a rescue organization where Billy and I quickly spotted and fell in love with him.

Second, he gets adopted. He is thrown into a new world (for the 4th time) and this one is ruled by one Honey Lou who doesn't put up with much crap and isn't all too happy to have him around. He discovers many new things...most of which get him into serious trouble with his new parents. (See here, here and here.)

Third, obedience training. Miles attends the prestigious Bon Clyde Academy where he learns that all the stuff Mom has been teaching him is for real and she means it when she says sit.

Next, he misses his last two classes because of a bout with, what we thought was, kennel cough. Goes on meds, starts getting better.

About this time, he takes his first serious road trip to Louisiana to meet the rest of his family. Only the trip was spent in the vet's office as Miles seemed to be on his death bed. We hit the right combo of meds, though, and he bounces back.

Then, he loses Honey. OK, so this probably wasn't as traumatic for him as it was for me, but it adds to the doggie drama.

Then, Miles gets itchy.

What's this? Mom has picked up an injured, stray dog off the street and brought her home. (By the way, Keegan--or Reese as you may recall--is up for adoption. She is a truly, truly, truly wonderful dog who just needs more attention than her owner could give her. I encourage you to check out this wonderful dog and look at my older posts about her.) Then sent her away.

Hmm...again? This time, Dad brings home a puppy. This puppy lives with us for 2 weeks, latches onto Miles and then leaves for his permanent home in South Carolina.

And now this. Friday, Miles went to the groomer and came back a handsome, delicious smelling pup. But Friday night, things were different. Miles was mopey, feverish and unsettling-ly not himself. Saturday morning brought a change for the better, but by Sunday we were calling Dr. Schaller.

We took Miles to see Dr. Schaller Sunday afternoon and he is all doped up again. Coughing, hacking, drooling, sleeping, not wagging his tail, all around not doing well. We were scared that this was some kind of relapse back to the drama in the Spring, but so far it appears not to be the case.

His blood work indicates that this is not a tick-borne disease and that his blood platelet count is normal. Phew. And, after 3 days of meds, his coughing is soooo much better. Last night, he was even--all be it weakly--getting back to his mischievous ways.

I hope Dr. Schaller knows how grateful we are for her wonderful care of our animals. We bothered her all weekend, but I think she was truly concerned about Miles' health and well-being.

So here's to Miles getting better and STAYING THAT WAY. Seriously. For good.

Just weeks before the start of the College Basketball season, UCONN’s Men’s team made he

Just weeks before the start of the College Basketball season, UCONN's Men's team made headlines last week when freshman basketball player Nate Miles was reportedly expelled from the school. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3623177&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines The 6-7 freshman forward was expelled after allegedly violating a restraining order less than 20 minutes after receiving it. Reports indicate that an unnamed woman alleged that Miles attempted to force her to have sex (the details of her allegations were made public, but they need not be reproduced here). That event led to the restraining order, and a subsequent phone call (from Miles to the woman), is the alleged basis for the expulsion.

UCONN acted swiftly in holding a hearing and ordering expulsion. Miles' guardian, Sean Patterson, was quoted as saying that Miles was "railroaded". Regardless of the propriety of the expulsion or the administrative hearing, the Miles case highlights the often uncomfortable interplay between universities and the legal system. Rules in the criminal justice system differ from those on campus.

Miles' court case was continued until November, and there is a strong possibility that charges will ultimately be dismissed if Miles fulfills counseling requirements. The potential of such a seemingly innocuous resolution didn't prevent UCONN from moving swiftly from expelling Miles. One can at least wonder whether UCONN would have reacted differently if Miles was considered an important piece for the upcoming season. At least one commentator suggests that Miles won't be missed at Storrs. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3623640&name=katz_andy

Miles can still appeal the University's decision, and rumors suggest that he will. Commentators have been quick to dismiss Miles as a bad apple and have repeatedly cited to his attending at least five high schools as evidence of his instability. http://www.courant.com/services/newspaper/printedition/sports/hc-jeffcol1003.artoct03,0,5622474.column. However, his side of the story has not yet been publicized, and under the University code, it need not be.

Jim Calhoun's program has come under increased scrutiny in recent years after a string of disciplinary and legal incidents have lead to multiple expulsions and suspensions. The University acted decisively this time and avoided the controversey that surrounded the Marcus Williams decision. ctsportslaw.com will continue to monitor Miles' efforts to appeal and any further legal proceedings. In the interim, we welcome your thougts on this case and the legal woes of the team.

Down to the final 4 weeks and feeling pretty good. Last week was ridiculous, I ran the prior weeks long run on Monday so all told I completed 55 miles from Monday to Sunday (I don't think I've ever run that much in one week). Yesterday's long run was good, 22 miles and I kept moving around all day until I finally crashed out on the couch watching Dexter. It was surprising that I wasn't completely spent after 3 hours and 40 minutes of straight running, but I did several things right for this long run; first, I ran 6.7 miles on Saturday which helped tire me out and forced me to pace myself for Sunday; second, hydration was perfect with about 11 water stops throughout; third, didn't party too much during the weekend; fourth, a couple of PowerBar Gel packs (carbohydrate fuel & double caffeine) allowed me to sustain my energy levels and finally, the weather was just too perfect (cool, mid 60's and sunny). I ate a huge breakfast afterwords, cleaned up the apartment and had a few cocktails to celebrate ;-)

Last Thursday I was up at the butt crack of dawn (5:30 am) to do my typical mid-week 10.2 miler. There's just something about hitting the streets of gritty steel town on a crisp fall morning that puts things into a perfect perspective. It gives me time to strategize on all the challenges of the day and at the same time calms my soul. Half way through the sun rose, the streets filled up and the engines of the Iron City kicked into gear…

The "NYC Marathon Handbook" arrived last week as well. Tons of good information on preparing for the race, the actual race day & recovery tips. It also provided a better course map with specific streets and turns.

Planning for the weekend is now in full swing and I'll actually be in Philadelphia the Friday night before the marathon for a wedding. As a die hard NY Mets fan, Philly is not on the top of my list of places to visit. Although I've never really been there so as long as the conversation steers clear of baseball, we'll be alright. I figure I'll head up to NYC Saturday morning, pick up my packet and then relax before race day. My folks are hosting a BBQ after the race on Sunday where I plan on rewarding my acheivement with beer.

October 3rd was my 29th Birthday as well as Miles' 9 month Birthday. It was the perfect day. I had a fabulous lunch date with Greta and Miles. Miles had his first soup and bread at Panera Bread. As we were leaving, Greta turned to me and said, "Mommy and Greta and Miles go to a restaurant. Do it again!" I think this was her way of saying- "we should do this more often, Mom!" Then that evening my husband and sister in law threw me a lovely party! Thank you for all who came. It was the best Birthday that I can remember :) And- I can't wait to beat some eggs from the gourmet grocery store while wearing my new boots!
