I've done a decent handful of movie reviews along the way, movies both old and new. One review I did was for the movie Donnie Brasco. This review is nothing special, in quality I'd say it's pretty well exactly on par with the rest of the reviews I write. For some reason, months and months after I wrote it, it continues to get multiple hits a day. People are constantly searching for Donnie Brasco and stumbling across my blog entry about it. It's up to almost 200 hits by itself. I have no idea what causes everyone to search this movie (15 years old or so, by the way) out. Makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

Alright, that's all, carry on with your lives.

Notes to self mostly. You will not understand.

I'm having girlfriend problems, specifically with regard to where they live. D can't be a non-Berkeley-ite because the Fresno hook up trip wouldn't make sense. She could be at Berkeley but then the other trysts wouldn't make sense. I guess they could but I feel like I'd have to explain a lot there -- how they happened, when where and why, where was D, etc.

B could be at Berkeley but then why doesn't she hang around J, A, and E more often and why doesn't she know the history? She has to not know the story because E has to explain it to her (aka also to the audience). I could make her non-Berkeley but I don't want umm I dunno I don't want to exclude the black girl. But I totally am! gah! I'm very sensitive to race issues in my works. Why? As a professor of mine once said -- if you involve race in your stories they better mean something. Actually it would work to exclude B because it shows the rift between her and J. Hmmmm fuck it maybe she should just be in Davis, studying agriculture which Davis is known for. Ok we're going with that.

I think that might work. Ok. Now I just have to make very clear that D had no idea what was going on between M and E; maybe she was out of town. Or they were broken up. Shit, how shady do we want E to be? They should probably be broken up. YES.

These are the annoying points but if your story does fit together then wtf, man. Therefore these elements need to be solved.

According to El Rushbo, ACORN — the Association of Corrupted Organizations for Registration of Non-eligible voters —will be right there setting policy beginning the day after the anointment, which is November 4.

This is from a Heartland Presidential Forum in 2007. The moderator asks: "If elected president would you agree in your first 100 days to meet with a delegation of representatives from these various community organizations, the Campaign for Community Values, and so forth, can they count on you in your first 100 days to sit down with them?"

To which Barack Hussein Obama replies:

Yes. But let me say that before I even get inaugurated, during the transition we're going to be calling all of you in to help us shape the agenda. We're going to be having meetings all across the country with community organizations so that you have input into the agenda of the next presidency of the United States of America!

You read that right. The vote fraudsters, shakedown artists and community thugs agitators from the likes of ACORN will be setting policy in the United States. The likes of The Reverend Al Sharpton and The Reverend Jackson. Thugs. Shakedown artists. Bullies.

God help us.

Watch the video:

ACORN should be investigated under federal RICO statutes, not awarded with a policy-making position in the federal government.

I took an easy 7.5 miles run this evening. My left hamstring is beginning to feel a little better, but my right knee is acting funny. :sigh: This will probably be my last outdoor run until next week. I'm leaving for a conference tomorrow, and apparently, several people have told me it is not wise to run outdoors when it is dark. So that scratches out evening and early morning runs. I'm not too happy about this and will likely have to suck it up on the dreadmill. I'm so not treadmill oriented. I get super bored even with my ipod on. I may wind up just using the elliptical or stationary bike at the hotel. I guess if nothing else, it can be a good cross training week.

I'll be back on Sunday evening and will report then. Have a good week.

Michael Barone takes a look at what he calls “the coming liberal thugocracy.” It’s

Michael Barone takes a look at what he calls "the coming liberal thugocracy." It's not a pretty picture.

Once upon a time, liberals prided themselves, with considerable reason, as the staunchest defenders of free speech. Union organizers in the 1930s and 1940s made the case that they should have access to employees to speak freely to them, and union leaders like George Meany and Walter Reuther were ardent defenders of the First Amendment.

Today's liberals seem to be taking their marching orders from other quarters. Specifically, from the college and university campuses where administrators, armed with speech codes, have for years been disciplining and subjecting to sensitivity training any students who dare to utter thoughts that liberals find offensive. The campuses that once prided themselves as zones of free expression are now the least free part of our society.

Obama supporters who found the campuses congenial and Mr. Obama himself, who has chosen to live all his adult life in university communities, seem to find it entirely natural to suppress speech they don't like and seem utterly oblivious to claims this violates the letter and spirit of the First Amendment. In this campaign, we have seen the coming of the Obama thugocracy, suppressing free speech, and we may see its flourishing in the four or eight years ahead.

Make that the coming eight to 10 years or more, depending on how long The Anointed One desires to rule over His subjects.

Barone cites the inevitability of the return of the (Un)Fairness Doctrine, "card check" legislation designed to benefit union thugs, the efforts by the Obama sheeple to shut down Milt Rosenberg's radio show on WGN-AM not once but twice at the direction of The Messiah's campaign, the threats of criminal prosecution against Obama foes simply for saying things contrary to what The One says about Himself.

Add to that the plans to use net neutrality and campaign finance "reform" to shut down blogs and regulate political speech on the Internet and the inevitable hate speech legislation that when passed and signed by Our Lord and Savior will criminalize all kinds of speech, especially that which is not politically correct or approved by the ruling political and cultural elites.

How do we know that the Chocolate Jesus will rule from the extreme Left? Check out what Paul Mirengoff, one of the key contributors at Power Line, has to say:

[T]here are at least six reasons to fear that Obama will govern from the far left.

First, it’s all he really knows. Obama grew up in a left-wing household, attended elite left-wing dominated universities, and spent the remainder of his formative years as a community organizer alongside the likes of Wright and Ayers.

Second, it’s how he votes. In 2007, according to the National Journal, Obama’s voting record was the most liberal of any senator.

Third, it’s what he falls back on. Obama is scripted to be “post-partisan.” But when off-script he’s liable to blurt out that those who resist the leftist agenda bitterly “cling to guns or religion or antipathy to those who aren’t like them.” And when his wife said that, as an adult, she has never been proud of America, Obama defended her statement as applied to American politics. This is “god damn America” lite.

Fourth, it’s what his base wants. There really isn’t much distance between Reverend Wright and Bill Ayers and the “General Betray-Us” crowd.

Fifth, it’s what he can pretend the times demand. When economic hardship causes people lose their faith in free markets, all kinds of radical mischief becomes possible.

Sixth, with the Democrats almost certain to have substantial majorities in both houses of Congress, who would constrain a President Obama?

A line from Corkscrew's previous post stuck out like a sore thumb and looked to me like it was screaming for attention and needed to be addressed. No, he did not write anything wrong. If anything, everything Corkscrew said was right (and I'm luffing at the compass analogy lol).

It's true that the COH community has thinned considerably in 2008. I haven't been around long enough to remember the dark days of pre-1.5 when the wehr army was getting stuffed left, right and center from american-loving Relic patching team. But I do know the game's visiblity and popularity increased exponentially in 2007. The golden age of COH has imho, definitely gone us by.

A computer game, like a commodity in the stock market or a jar of peanut butter in the supermarket, experiences high and low sales. Like a seasonal reflection of buyer's attitude towards 2007's Hugo Boss collection, staunch haute couture fans would only be seen in this year's Hugo Boss outfits. It's up to the non-purists or new fans of Hugo Boss to keep the designers happy.

I still log on and play COH as often as I can but I find the attitude and enthusiasm that made the COH community and gaming experience enjoyable has waned. The purists have lost interest in the game as the designers are no longer coming up with something avant-garde or distinctive enough to keep them happy. Instead, now we have newbies, old farts and try hards attempting to take the game to another level when the state of play has not changed for a good six months.

Many skilled veterans of the game have echoed my sentiments as we muster another boring Allied AT win over Axis efforts. It no longer takes skill or effort to win with Allies. It's been a year and several patches but nothing has changed. This has sufficiently dulled the senses of many COH players and of course, when the shit hits the fan, people start looking elsewhere for their gaming fix.

This time last year I can easily count in excess of ten friends I regularly AT with. Now, with the depressing state of COH affairs and the inept ability of the patching/beta team to come up with anything worth blinking for, I have only one friend I AT with. And we AT twice a week. And that's saying something.

The enthusiasm is no longer there. The heart is willing but the will is weak. Many players I have spoken to tell me they find it refreshing to learn a new faction and interest in the game increases marginally for a few weeks. After awhile it degenerates into another piss fart contest in the gr.org forums as disgruntled players complain about the incompetence of the patching/beta team.

Nobody is ever happy. Nobody cares. New patch, old habits. It's the same vicious cycle that plagues this wonderful game. What pisses me off most is the non-communication between the big entity that sits atop the food chain and us underlings as we scrounge for some scraps of food. All we need is a ray of light. A glimmer of hope. That things will be better. But we keep getting mooned in the face with a big FUCK YOU.

Is this what we, as paying customers and friendly, motivated forum trolls want? What is keeping you from throwing the COH disc into the fires of Mount Doom?

You connected me with inner eye-mind! True, I didn't need to tell you truth until I died. I could point out that which the intuition eye read next...Behavioral economist Ariely wrote of one who said, 'Think how hard physics would be if particles could think. '"

Hmmm, well, guess what? They just may be able to do that after all. Can I prove it? Well, not in the way others might like to see it proved, but I can draw a few connections. Here is one. I took a few books out from the library a week or so ago. One is shown in the full collage below (Apples are from Kazakhstan) and one is shown with a quote from the last page of the book, also scanned for your convenience, from Predictably Irrational. "Think how hard physics would be if particles could think."

Ah yes, and therein is the unknown, once more. Or maybe I should say, it sounds as though the unknown is making itself known. I scanned the page for your comparison of what I found in the book and what showed up in the anagram. Remember, the comics provide me with the randomly chosen text that I anagrammed.

And here is the full collage of the day. The text used for the anagram above is outlined in turquoise blue. Enjoy.

Kinda harkens back to my physics of the impossible posts, don't you think?

We weren't sure if we'd have a basement under the addition until they started digging, but after much pounding/rock breaking today, there will be a basement. Now we've got our fingers crossed that we won't get much rain while it's all dug out!

With Amber's supervision (Himself was making interesting noises that she just had to check out) the new dishwasher is finally working - notice the lights - yay! It has a setting for washing just the top rack, which looks like it will be ideal for us most of the time, and it does a great job.

There's never enough time? Multiply that by ten, add six, divide by 2, square it and add eleventy...that is where I have been. Ok, maybe it'snot that drastic. But from prenatal appointments, potty training, working, 2009 budgets to preparing for baby, keeping up with K and sleep...it's been a bit of a blur.
I've logged on a few times with the intention to write something...anything...but I've either nodded off or been distracted.

But I'm here now, typing...and I'm sleepy. More later (this time I promise).

I really am going to blog again soon. I have been unusually busy the last month.

We had no power for 12 days and no home Internet for 24 days. I have been juggling subcontractors for the roof, tree removal, fence, drywall and painting, cable and more. The insurance adjuster was really quite reasonable, but many vendors are asking outrageous amounts. I finally found some good ones, though it seems that no one gets things right the first time.

Then I had a Kairos Prison Ministry weekend which takes 5 Saturday mornings of prep plus a full 3 day weekend. More to come on that. The weekend was fantastic. And we've had several other things going on. So I'm starting to catch my breath. I've been reading your blogs but not commenting or writing here.

Some pictures of the hurricane damage. It could have been a lot worse.

Hope you all are doing well!
