Thank you for stopping by to watch the circus! I wonder where the circus is going next? It was a lot of fun for me to do an epic story. The circus theme was partially inspired by a novel I picked up in an airport book store recently called "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. I felt slightly annoyed reading the book and discovering that it was given the grand Disney-esque ending. I know people who read the last page of a novel first, and if it's not completely jolly rancher, they will refuse to read the rest of it. I guess that's why I took my circus elephant story down tragedy lane. Gruen's novel was filled with quite a few interesting facts about circus history. One thing that interested me was that when tragedy struck during a performance, the circus brass band would strike up the tune "Stars and Stripes Forever" in order to send a signal to the emergency crew of an accident. Now... back to your regularly scheduled Trudge!

so i said i was going to go look up something to talk about. but i didn't feel like it. because then i thought, all i'm going to get is shitty stuff about celeberties and i don't need to talk about their lives. it's so fucked up to just follow them around. and they put all that stupid shit in the magizines about them.
this one time i was skimming one in the grocery store [cause i was bored and didn't want to help my mom put the groceries in the bags.] so it said, 'so and so buys toilet paper too!' and i was like 'no shit. they don't wipe their ass with their hands douchebags.'anyway, what else can i say? hm.
oh wow. well guess what? i thought no one was reading what i was writing. but haha. i was on my dashboard thing and i scrolled down. and the thing said how many people were reading. and one of them said 127! I was so over joyed. i mean, people actually read what i say.
so why isn't anyone commenting? are people just to like involed in what they have to do to leave a 4 word comment. serisously. say anything. i want to hear what you have to say. like if you want me to talk about something. come on guys. give me ideas. i'm terrible at starting things. but i'm trying on changing that. you know?

okay. so anyway, that's about all. i don't have anything to say. i don't get out of the house much. my friends are lame and they all don't like me [well they do. but they'd rather be with someone else].

The wonders of Moo

So we're into the penultimate week of the summer holidays and I've pretty much run out of things to do with my darling daughter.

We've had the big summer holiday, been to the beach, had a picnic in the park, baked, stamped, scrapbooked, painted plates, decorated every surface in the house, bowled, visited friends and family, watched endless 'My Friends Tigger and Pooh', birdspotted from the playhouse pretending it's a hide, you name it and we've done it.

I'm trying to make sure that every activity is either free or less than £5. I'm going to surf for more ideas this afternoon and check out Amanda Soule's fabulous 'The Creative Family' for inspiration which I bought in Vancouver. That woman is a wonder, I really don't know how she does it? Check out her blog as well, as you can tell she's one of my heroes!

However last week Lily and I were surfing and I was looking at Moo for Violet Posy business cards (and Christmas cards but shhhh don't tell her that!) and Lily noticed the stickers. It seems that all small girls are obsessed with them :) But these are cool, you can link to your Flickr, Facebook, Livejournal, Etsy whatever account and the photos from that account made into stickers.

Lily chose all her favourite pictures from holiday and of the dog, friends, the garden and had them made into stickers. This morning these little beauties arrived and they are soooo cool!

In fact they are so nice Lily is refusing to stick them on anything and is carrying them around like a security blanket. But I suspect they are going to end up all over the house - I can't wait :) They have made a bored little girl very happy.

Hermine in The Netherlands made a piece of wonderful background paper (for personal use) and issued a challenge to anyone that would like to make something with it. Wait until you see all of the creativity....just amazing!

I made an ATC and did not want to waste any of it, so I also made a Moo.

Some of you may know that I'm majorly (huh, I always thought 'majorly' was a legitimate word- not according to Wordpress) obsessed with typography and stationery. I even wrote an entry about how I wanted to get my own business cards.

Well... here they are! I just put the order in.

I wanted something very simple and yet eye-catching. These are the cards I designed with Moo.

All the fronts will be a variation shown above. I didn't want a cheesy image grabbed from Flickr, and since I'm not a company (and will probably never use my own name, even if I do start a company), I didn't want to design a logo either. So... email. Functional. Simple. Unassuming. The back is very clean and concise as well. Just my name, cell, email and this website. No Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Hi5, Bebo, etc. I figured, once they go online, it'll be easy to find all that other stuff. I mean it's on the front page of janyxu.com.

It's utilitarian with a fun font and from what I've seen, pretty rare. (If anyone loves the first Ocean's Eleven as much as I did, you'll probably remember Daniel Ocean's calling card. Damn, it was sexy. I wish I could find a picture of it.)

My only fear is that the paper weight of the cards (I don't think Moo uses very heavy paper) will make the cards look too bare. But that's a risk I'm definitely willing to take.

It's that time of year again ... the time of year when I phone the suppliers to place a repeat order and they say

Sorry! Discontinued.

What?

No!

Please?

Seriously?

Uh Oh!

There is no more Moo!

Now sometimes, that's ok, it's not so bad, didn't like that print anyway ... but this time it's not so ok, and it is pretty bad 'cos what they have decided to discontinue is the Moo print.

A quick Stock Check reveals that the situation is much worse than originally thought as there are only two short rolls of this fabric left :| What am I going to do now? (aside from panic?)

I've known I can get this print in Brown / White for some time but it just isn't as funky, is it?

If you are a Moo Fan, are you a purist who would only entertain the Black/White version (like me) or could you be persuaded over to the Brown Cow?
