Taking Out the Garbage

My oldest daughter came to visit yesterday. She brought two of her friends. One of them asked if he

My oldest daughter came to visit yesterday. She brought two of her friends. One of them asked if he could use my computer to check his emails. I teasingly told him that he would owe me, and then snapped my fingers and said he could use the computer if he took the trash out to the dumpster when he left. He grinned and agreed. My disability doesn't allow me to walk too far without pain, so we solved both of our problems and were satisfied.

That isn't necessarily the case in our daily lives, where the garbage from yesterday can interfere with the experience of today. Feelings can follow us around, draining our energy, taking up mind space, and using thought gymnastics that are needed elsewhere. That's just plain frustrating. I find that many of my journal pages seem to be brief summaries of the events of the day before, along with short notes about my own thoughts and feelings on those experiences. It is a sorting process and I do it first thing in the morning. Each morning. Sorting this from that, dropping a lot of it on those pages, like taking out the garbage.

I'm not saying that emotions, feelings, are just garbage. They do serve a purpose as a barometer of where we have been, allowing us to take our temperature and thus, clothe ourselves appropriately for the present moment. However, they can also be a troubling distraction in that present moment as I have already said. Carrying around a load of angst over something someone said, or did, may result in lashing out inappropriately at someone who certainly doesn't deserve the lashing. And the weight of that angst, and the added guilt for misappropriated feelings, can get very heavy, very fast.

When we write out those feelings, even briefly, we assign them to a place of containment, a proper receptacle that can and will hold them until we decide how and when we choose to deal with them. And trust me on this one, if they are important, they will return themselves to our attention again and again. They will make themselves known no matter how much we may try to avoid them. And that too, is part of the sorting process, I mentioned earlier. If I find my journal pages repeatedly filled with a certain person, an idea, that just keeps popping up over and over again, I will move to deal with it far more quickly than otherwise. It is literally taking up my space and I want to use that space for other things.

So, what exactly, am I sorting? The trash from genuine inspiration. I really do love to write poetry and much of the poetry I write, comes directly from those journal pages. Many of them are actually Freudian slips of the pen that tickle my inner ear for whatever reason. Some of them are a direct result of that angst I dragged into today from yesterday. They have become even more important since I began writing this blog. The ideas for this writing also come from those journal pages. But, if I didn't first write them down, they could be, and often are, lost in the course of living my day to day life. Because I have been doing this for many years, its a lot easier to spot the garbage and retain the inspiration.

Let me give you an example. Many years ago, I used an inordinate amount of paper writing about my boss of the current moment. The things he said, did, and the anger I felt over each and every one of those things. One day, as I leafed through those pages, I could see his name jumping out at me in almost every one of them. It finally dawned on me that this was no longer my journal. He, this man who had usurped my time and energy, was taking up squatter's rights in what I defined as 'my' territory. We had been engaged in a silent battle of control for far too long and when I mentioned it to a fellow worker, he agreed and actually told me that we were acting like partners in an abusive marriage. As I paged through my writing, I could physically see that reality. Ugh!

I got busy and within three months had found a new career and quit my job. And yes, I may have done that eventually, somewhere down the road, without the prompting from my own words. But how much longer? How much more time would I have wasted, not to mention pages in the book of my life? I actually shudder at the thought.

That might seem like a drastic example, but how many individuals do you know who spend most of their time complaining about their present circumstances, yet doing nothing to change them because they simply can't see what is happening to, and in, their own lives. They lack a barometer to help them to clothe themselves appropriately for whatever weather they might encounter. I, personally, would prefer to use my time and energy writing my daily pages than to take a happy pill that simply numbs the symptoms that might allow me to see my own path and the direction I am moving in and toward.

Just think about all the time wasted on guilt feelings of one sort or another. Guilt is not a feeling. It is a fact. We did, or did not, do something wrong. That has nothing to do with feelings, and everything to do with actions. Yet, guilt feelings are perhaps even heavier than angst. Put them on the page. Work through the feeling and resolve it. If you are guilty then find a way to make recompense. If not, tell the feelings to shut up. You can stop writing about them, unless they are comfortable and can be used as an excuse to not engage in some other activity. But all of that is the individual's choice, unless he/she is unaware that all that tiredness he/she feels is directly related to all those guilt feelings sucked up like an absorbent sponge. And because we live in world that abounds with guilt feelings in every shape, size, and color, one will never run out of material, or have to stand in a line at a soup kitchen to get more.

So yesterday, I got someone else to put out the garbage and he got to use my computer. Fair trade? Not hardly, I also got all these words out of it, another page in my journal, some very real sorting, and another blog under my belt. Hope he got some extras as well.

Music, Warner Music e Sony BMG.

Segundo a

afirmou o analista Rich Greenfield, da Pali Capital, ao jornal "The New
York Times". "Ninguém tem isso. Há uma descoberta de música acontecendo no
MySpace que é muito mais profunda do que no iTunes", afirma.
A nova empresa, chamada MySpace Music, terá estrutura própria, com sede em
Los Angeles, e uma equipe exclusiva.

For how long can a Web 2.0 application be popular?
The Centre for Journalism at Cardiff University is teaching us how to blog and micro blog, use wikis, social bookmarking, RSS feeds, and photo sharing.

At the moment, I’m ignorant about convergence, which isn’t conducive to being a good journalist.

I find the huge choice of new applications baffling and I want to keep up with the changes, but the Internet is developing so quickly that I don’t know how to judge what’s worthwhile.

Here’s an example:

The Decline of My Space
In 2006 and 2007, I checked my My Space page at least twice a day. Now I glance at it once a month because around June 2007, all my contacts packed their photos and comments into their cyber-net bags and ran off to Facebook.

So I followed them.

Although My Space was initially popular with social networkers, it’s doesn’t assume the same degree of privacy as Facebook.

Architecture of Participation
But My Space is far from rubbish. Although it was started as a social networking site, its users spotted a different potential: to promote music.

For example, Pete Lawrie was heard by Rob da Bank and Zane Lowe’s band Breaks Co-op on My Space. He went on to sign a publishing deal with Chrysalis and is about to record his debut album with Rollo Armstrong (Faithless, Dido) in January.

My Space developed into a platform for musicians to showcase their work to the entire world and in that sense was revolutionary.

Waste of Time?
It could be said that it’s a waste of time to learn how to use applications which could have millions of hits one month, but may be deserted the next.

But on the other hand, once I have the skills, I can use them to understand different, but similar applications.

And what’s more, if I can gain a wider understanding of why certain applications succeed or fail, I could discriminate between them and choose the one I need.

I’d like to be able to lead the way in online journalism, rather than trying to catch up with everyone else.

Fifty-one years ago, on October 4, 1957, the then Soviet Union launched the world's first man-made, earth-orbiting satellite named Sputnik 1. Designed primarily for use in atmospheric studies, its successful deployment beat the United States by being the first craft in space and sparked the beginning of the Space Race. As the years progressed, competition between the two countries intensified with each other's exploration until July, 1969, when the United States achieved a milestone with the first manned landing on the moon through the Apollo 11 mission! Ironically now, decades later, we are reaping the benefits from this Cold War Space Race by way of the GPS units we depend on in our automobiles, the cellphones we always carry with us, the laptops we use by way of broadband cards, etc. The importance of these "eyes in the sky" (as satellites are sometimes called) lies in the fact that they virtually shrink the vast expanse of space into smaller yet connected regions that can communicate with each other! Now, what was once a seemingly unknown and unreachable space suddenly becomes-- in effect-- "your space" and "my space"! Technology surely does have its pluses and minuses. But, not surprisingly, the good always outweighs the bad!

I cant say I love the song Reckoner (frankly, I dont understand the haunting lyrical sounds that pass for words) by the front man Thom Yorke, but do like the violin and background cymbals. Regardless, their video for the song is what captured my attention.

According to Blackbook's site, "Radiohead released another video. This wouldn't be nothin’ to write home about if a) the art of the music video weren't dead by now, which it almost is; b) they didn't hold a contest to make the official video for "Reckoner", which they did; and if c) it wasn't good, which it isn't -- it’s great. See, Radiohead commissioned their fans to make an animated video; they narrowed it down to ten videos, then four, and each of the four semi-finalists got $10,000 to finish their final product. The winner was French Radiohead fan Clement Picon, and the surrealist growth put on display in Picon's video is as shockingly bittersweet and subversively brilliant as the song itself; in other words, it fits perfectly in the catalog of the band’s extensive yet solid videography."

[caption id="attachment_464" align="alignleft" width="250" caption="Radiohead"][/caption]

Link to Radiohead video (since I cant embed the MySpace TV player..you get the link. *Aside: are we days or years away from a universal embed option...but I digress)!

I enjoy Radiohead's music only once in a great while...but I appreciate their non-traditional and counter-culture efforts towards video creation, song sharing, business models and the like. In a traditional, top-down, centralized command and control industry like music, they are making waves and doing things differently. As Apple once marketed "Think Different".

May there be more Radioheads amongst us!

Being a record plugger is an incredibly important job. I’m not just saying that because I was one but I thought we held an enormous amount of responsibility. We were on the front line and we took all the bullets……from managers, from the sales department, marketing……. and product managers who were quite often the funniest.

Whenever they got grief from a manager or internally from someone at the record company, they’d get on the phone and bark at the regional people. If a record wasn’t getting any radio play they thought by getting on the phone and screaming at you then we would frighten the regional radio stations in to playing it. You would try to explain to them how it worked…..Independent radio is just that, independent, they need to stand on their own two feet. They aren’t funded by the license payer’s money like the BBC are …… if they screw up they’ll still get another chunk of money the following year. They nee to satisfy advertisers and in doing that satisfy the shareholders or the advertisers will go and spend their dollars/pounds elsewhere. No audience, no advertising , no advertising, no profits, no profits, no radio station. It all seemed quite logical to me, but then again it was my job know what regional radio was ….and I’d actually been in these places, unlike this mob who stuck them in the ‘north of Watford’ box.

I think a promotion person’s role was even more important than that of an A and R person. How many dodgy signings got lucky, had radio play and went on to become successful? We helped them get bonuses, points on records and probably a pay rise. If they signed crap bands we still had to get them played. Bit of a vicious circle really because if we did get them played they’d go and sign more shit! We had some common ground, you’re only ever as good as your last record.

Everyone looked to traditional radio back then. There wasn’t much alternative, no My Space, no internet radio, no satellite radio….. no viral marketing at all. Radio One was the national station and was so important…. and they knew it. If they playlisted a record and it was A or B listed you could get 20 to 30 plays. It’s that familiarity with an audience that gets them to like the record and then hopefully buy it. When local radio was in it’s infancy they were usually only in the major cities. Now if you’ve got an ice cream shop, you’ve got a radio station. Over the years regional radio got more important and more influential but listening to it now I think you’d hear better stuff in a lift.

This is the real thing. Not just practice anymore. This is the country you were born into, and most likely the one in which you will be attempting to survive.

You're finally 18. Now it's you who can turn the tides. For the last 18 years, you've felt overwhelmed and powerless - "just a kid" -almost a second class citizen.

But now it's your turn. You can be the most vocal and influential person in the country.

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that the whole mess is so sordid that it's way beneath you. And you don't want the responsibility of putting yet another crooked snake in the Whitehouse.

Right?

That's what I thought for years. So I didn't get involved.

And then the Bush's happened.

Which caused 9/11 to happen.

And then my own life got much harder as a result. And now we're all in serious trouble as a result.

So ... It's not just TV. Not just You Tube. It's real life. You can save the day here. You can be America's greatest super heroes.

Dig Out Your Soul - Nas lojas, para quem ainda não baixou, dia 6

But where do you go? Except forward. Forward, in a van, with an obsolete company name scratched off by speed, distance and time. The time is the propeller. No time to say hello. No time to say goodbye. But time to drive. Definitely time to drive.

A village hut. Early morning

The heavy downpour had been on ever since late last night. By now the sky looked clear white, but the rain persisted at the same constant rate. The leaves of trees seemed to sparkle a shade of green so pure it only seemed possible in paintings. Puddles had formed here and there, and one could see people running to and fro, having to work but eager not to get wet. A stray dog lay curled up under a big tree, wet and shivering. A boy in his early teens sits by the window, looking longingly at the outside world of wild breeze and hard rain. Of course, he would much rather go out in the rain, for a game of football with the other kids. But no luck there! His parents had actually allowed him to skip school today, just so he would not have an excuse to go out in the rain. When parents let you miss school, you know things are serious! Sitting in his room, by the window, the boy sighed, longing for the day he would be old enough to decide when or when not to go out.

Almost everyone needs or wants more money coming in, and with this desire most would like to start some

sort of extra income producing project. The trouble is, not many of these people seem able to fit "a second

job" into their time schedules.

The Secret:> LEARN HOW TO REORGANIZE YOUR TIME TO

ACCOMMODATE A HOME-BASED BUSINESS

The Answer:> "GOOGLEMYSPACE"

It's true that most people are busy, but extra time for some sort

of home-based extra income producing project can almost always be

found. It may mean giving up or changing a few of your favorite

pastimes--such as having a couple of beers with the guys or

watching TV--but if you score big with your extra income project,

you will have all the time you want for doing whatever you what

to do.

Efficient time management boils down to planning what you're

going to do, and then doing it without backtracking. Start by

making a list of the things you want to do tomorrow, each evening

before you go to bed. Schedule your trips to the store or

wherever to coincide with the other things you have to do, and

with your trips to or from work. Organize your trips to take care

of as many things as possible while you're out of the house.

take stock of the time you spend on the telephone---and eliminate

all that isn't necessary.

Whatever chores you have to do at home, set aside a specific time

to do them, and a specific amount of time to devote to them. For

instances, just one hour a day devoted to yard work would

probably make your property the envy of all your neighbors. Don't

try to do a week's work in one big flurry. Whether it's painting

your house, fixing leaky faucets, or mowing your lawn and

trimming your shrubs, do a part of it, or one particular job each

day, and you'll be amazed at your progress.

Take care of all your mail the day, you receive it. Don't let

those bills and letters pile up on you. If you're unable to pay a

bill immediately, file it in a special place that's visible, and

note on the envelope the date you intend to pay it. Answer your

letters the same day you get them.

Once you start listing and planning what to do, and then carry

out your plans, you'll find plenty of "extra time" for handling

virtually any kind of home-based income producing project. People

in general may not like routines or schedules, but without some

sort of plan as to what is supposed to be done, the world would

be mired in mass confusion. Laws, ordinances and regulations are

for the purpose of guiding people. We live according to an

accepted plan or way of life, and the better we can organize

ourselves, the more productive and happy we become.

The secret of all financially successful people is simply that

they are organized and do not waste time. Think about it. Review

your own activities, and then see if you can't find a couple of

extra hours in each day for more constructive accomplishments.

When you begin planning, and then when you really become involved

in an extra income producing endeavor, you should work it exactly

as you have organized your regular day-to-day activities---on a

time basis. Do what has to be done immediately. Don't try to get

done in a hour something that's realistically going to take a

week. Plan out on paper what you have to do--what you want to

do--and when you are going to do it. Then get right on each

project without procrastination.

Finally, and above all else, when you're organizing your time and

your business, be sure to set aside some time for relaxation. Be

sure to schedule time when you and your spouse can be together.

You must not involve yourself to an extent that you exclude other

people--particularly your loved ones--from your life.

Taking stock of the time you waste each day, and from there,

reorganizing your activities is what it's all about. It's a

matter of becoming more efficient in the use of your time. It's

really easy to do, and you will not only accomplish a lot more,

you will also find greater fulfillment in your life.

Long Term Financial Secuity Can Be Yours With A Very Simple

Good and ultimate singer that's what the ipottisans say, especially Tamil songs. Everyone's fovorite song was "manram vandhu thendralukku". He is a hanuman bhakth (but he will do everything opposite) good person with lots of innovative ideas. Overall the TEAM iPOTT's comments are young and dynamic person handles things very smoothly, but really a mastermind.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi !

All of us have celebrated Ganesha Chaturthi on 3rd of september. We celebrated Ganesh Chturthi in our office on 5th September as 3rd sep was holiday for us. We started planning and preparing one week before and on thursday it was full fledge.

We got the Ganesha on Thursday evening and all that which we need for pooja and decoration. Some of our colleagues stayed late in office for decoration because we planned to make mountain. On friday we were suppose to reach office early in the morning for some more decoration and preparation of pooja. Some of us got prasad from home. With all enthu and devotion, we did all the decoration i.e. making rangoli, placing toran on door and decorating Ganesha with flowers and garland. All this was surprise for our Ma'am, she didn't know a single bit of this activity. When she reached office we were almost done just preparing for aarti. She was so surprised and touched that her eyes got wet. She was very happy and told all of us that "You made my day and the year ahead".

After this we did aarti and had lots of prasad. We took so many snaps with Ganesha. We planned to immerse Ganesha the same evening at 6:00 pm and before that we again did the aarti and took our Ganesha for immersion in Ulsoor lake. While going for imersion we screamed a lot i.e. "Ganapati Bappa Morya","ek do tin char Ganpati ki jai jai kar". This was the great fun for us. After reaching Ulsoor, again we had bye bye aarti for Ganesha and gave our Ganesha for immersion, that moment we felt very bad the whole day we were behind pooja looking for lamp whether the oil is finished or not. It feels great when we do 'Seva' for God. That was great pooja and great day fro all of us.

Once again "Ganpati Bappa Morya !"

We have seen many examples of publicists not having the client’s best interests including Kayne West, Terrell Owens and even more recently Lindsay Lohan. When things go bad ultimately, the client suffers and the publicist is out of a job. Having a plan in mind is vital when starting a relationship with your client. Most clients have simple needs such as to promote themselves, a product or service or to inform the public. Others won’t know what they want a publicist to do or even understand how they can help them. It is our job to make the client understand that without a publicist, the client would be in serious trouble in the public court of opinion.

Keep the communication lines open between you and your client. In today’s world there are many way to communicate. Phone calls, Text messaging, email, blogging or website such as My Space, Facebook, Twitter or Skype. Find out what is best for the client and keep those lines open. Keeping those lines open will be beneficial in understanding each other’s motivation.

Kim Etheredge was Terrell Owens publicist when reports came out that he attempted suicide when really it was a bad mixture of pain killers for an injury and supplements. She called for a press conference and her famous word, “Terrell has 25 million reasons why he should be alive," referring to the three-year, $25 million contract he signed with the Cowboys in March 2006. She had more interest in herself than Terrell Owens and as a result, she was fired.

Understanding your clients overall goal is very important. Publicity campaigns for small business to high-profile clients should be handled in all the same matter. Have a plan of attack, keep the communication lines open and above all…keep the clients best interest in mind!
