The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized.

Content Optimization

There are aspects of the optimization process that gain and lose importance. Content optimization is no exception to this. Through the many algorithm changes that take place each year, the weight given to the content on your pages rises and falls. Currently incoming links appear to supply greater advantage than well-written and optimized content.

The goal for anyone following this series is to build and optimize a website that will rank well on the major search engines and, more difficult and far more important, hold those rankings through changes in the search engine algorithms. While currently having a bunch of incoming links from high PageRank sites will do well for you on Google you must consider what will happen to your rankings when the weight given to incoming links drops, or how your website fares on search engines other than Google that don't place the same emphasis on incoming links.

While there are many characteristics of your content that are in the algorithmic calculations, there are a few that consistently hold relatively high priority and thus will be the focus of this article. These are:

1. Heading Tags

The heading tag (for those who don't already know) is code used to specify to the visitor and to the search engines what the topic is of your page and/or subsections of it. You have 6 predefined heading tags to work with ranging from <H1> to <H6>.

2. Special Text (bold, colored, etc.)

"Special text" (as it is used here) special is any content on your page that is set to stand out from the rest. This includes bold, underlined, colored, highlighted, sizing and italic. This text is given weight higher than standard content and rightfully so.

3. Inline Text Links

Inline text links are links added right into text in the verbiage of your content.

4. Keyword Density

It is the percentage of your total content that is made up of your targeted keywords.

What is Search Engine Optimization?

SEO is an acronym for “Search Engine Optimization”

What is Search Engine Optimization?

SEO is an acronym for "Search Engine Optimization" or "Search Engine Optimizer".It is a set of methodologies aimed at improving the visibility of a website in search engine listings.
Search Engine Optimizer is the terms adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house.SEO may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign.

SEO began in the mid-1990s, as the first search engines were cataloging the early Web. Many site owners quickly learned to appreciate the value of a new listing in a search engine, as they observed sharp spikes in traffic to their sites.Site owners soon began submitting their site URLs to the engines on a regular basis, and began modifying their site to accommodate the needs of search engine spiders, the software programs sent out to explore the Web. Danny Sullivan who invented the search engine optimization by a spam message in Usenet(July 26, 1997).Larry Page and Sergey Brin developed "backrub", a search engine that relied on a mathematical algorithm to rate the prominence of web pages. By 2007, search engines had incorporated a wide range of undisclosed factors in their ranking algorithms to reduce the impact of link manipulation.

SEO Techniques

List of SEO Techniques

*Domain & File Names:
Choose your site domain name that contains words from your primary keyword phrase. Your domain name should also be easy to spell and easy to remember. You keyword phrase also should in many cases go in your file name.

*Keyword Phrases:
1. Use keywords that are being searched for. You can check your keyword phrases with either the Search Term Suggestion Tool or the Overture Keyword Popularity Tool to find out how often they are being searched. You can also look at Google AdWords Keyword Suggestions for suggestions for different keyword phrases.
2. Add keyword synonyms to your content.
3. Put the keyword phrases in the .
4. Insert the keyword phrases in a keyword phrase tag at the beginning of your page. Keyword synonyms should be put in your h2 & h3 tags. The h1, h2, h3 tags are used for titles and subtitles in articles.
5. Make sure you use your keyword phrases from the page you are linking to, in your anchor text on the site map. i.e. SEO Techniques.

*Keyword Density:
Keyword density is a very important part of search engine optimization. Keyword density is the percent that your keyword or keyword phrase are of your web page text. You may want to look that your competition to see what keyword density they are using. To high a keyword density will be considered search engine spam and can get you blacklisted.Your keywords should be toward the top of your page and your keyword phrase be in either every paragraph or every second paragraph depending on your paragraph length.

*Bad Techniques:
Bad search engine optimization techniques can get you blacklisted from a search engine. Some techniques that are considered spam are cloaking, invisible text, tiny text, identical pages, doorway pages, refresh tags, link farms, filling comment tags with keyword phrases only, keyword phrases in the author tag, keyword density to high, mirror pages and mirror sites.

* Title & Meta Description Tag:
Construction of your title tag is one of the most important things you need to do. Each page should have a different title with 2 or 3 of your keyword phrases at the beginning. When search engine results are displayed the title is the first thing people see.
Below the title is a description which will be either be taken from your meta name description content="Description phrase" or from the first sentence on at page. You description should also have 2 or 3 of your keyword phrases at the beginning as so should your first sentence. You should have a different title, description and first sentence on each page. You many also what to try shorter titles with only one keyword or keyword phrase as this will raise you keyword relevance. Also you can consider putting your domain name at the very end of the title.

*Meta Keywords Tag:
The meta keywords tag is not as relevant as it used to be and some say Google doesn't ever look at it anymore, but put it in anyway. It is as follows, and put in it all your keywords and keyword phrases. This tag should be different for each page.

*Author & Robots Tags:
The Author Tag should contain the name of the company that owns the site. This tag will help you get a #1 position for your company's name.

Use a generic Robots Tag on all pages that you want indexed. This instructs the robots to crawl the page. The following is the generic robots tag.

*Quality Content:
Quality content will bring people back and as people always want to tell others about a good thing it will get you forward links from other sites. Your content should be written with your keyword phrases in mind

*Quantity Content:
The more the better. Just remember your content will need to be both quantity and quality.

* Changing Content:
You can do this by hand or with a script. For example you can have a php script that draws five paragraphs from a pool of twenty paragraphs when the content is different each time the php page is accessed.

*Avoid Dynamic URLs:
Are you pages via php, asp, or cf? Some search engines may have a problem indexing them. Create static pages whenever possible. Avoid symbols in your URLs like the "?" that you will often find in php, asp or cf pages.
Static pages are the best but if you have a db driven site, make sure the menu and site map like go to inventory.cfm not inventory.cfm?vn=0 .

*Frames:
Many search engines can't follow frame links. Make sure you provide an alternative method for the search engines to enter and index your site. For more information read Search Engines and Frames.

*Site Map:
A good menu system is really a site map. A well constructed menu system that is on each page and contains a link to very page on the website is all you need.

*Site Themes:
All of the top 3 search engines look for site themes or a common topic when they crawl a website. If your site is about one specific topic you will rank better than if you have more than one theme or topic on your site. By using similar keyword phrases in each page the search engines will detect a theme this will be to your advantage.

*Site Design:
You may think, what does site design have to with search engine optimization. Well if your website has a bad color scheme that is hard to read, is not organized, is a cheesy looking site, then all your site optimization has been a waste of time. Make your site attractive to the viewer, make things easy to find, have you graphic header and menu bar the same place on each page.
These things will keep your visitors on the site and bring them back. A well optimized site with a high search engine results position that is ugly and is hard find information on, will not keep the visitors your optimization has brought to the site.
Use W3C Link Checker to make sure all your page links are good. If you have broken links on your site this can effect the ranking you are given.
Put a proper doctype on each page. If you don't have a proper doctype on each page Internet Exployer will go into quirks mode and display it different.
Use The W3C Markup Validate Service to verify that your pages are Validate HTML or XHTML code. The W3C validation will verify that your HTML or XHTML is not broken. This validation show you any broken code that could cause your webpages from displaying properly in all the different browsers and browser versions.

*Separate Content & Presentation:
Put all your presentation code into Cascading Styles Sheets (CSS). This separates the presentation from the content and makes your html files up to 50% smaller. It is reported that the search engine bots prefer this and the more content you have compared to presentation in your file, the better you get rated. Read why tables for markup are stupid for an overview.

*Robots.txt File:
While this file is not really required it should be included so that the search engine bots don't get 404 errors when they look for it. Just include the following 2 lines and drop it in the root.
User-agent: *
Disallow:

Hello world, talking about wave soldering you might have got some sort of information from the post I made earlier. Now this is in continuation to the earlier one, we all know how important is the wave soldering process and every parameter associated with this process for getting a fine quality of the final output. Process like thermal profiling, reflow profiling and many others come together for the successful execution of an efficient wave soldering process. Every parameter of the wave soldering process and every machine used in this has a significant role for the production of printed circuit boards by this process.

This is by far one of the most simple optimization tool I've used and the effect is almost instantaneous.

Increase start-up speed, better overall system performance, optimize processor and the handy "startup programs" manager.

FreewareAddict Rating: 10/10 | Perfect | [Editor's Choice]

Features:

Boot-time greatly improved - I did a simple test. My original boot-up time was supposed to be about 23s (damn fast I know). After checking the "optimize booting", I restarted the computer. Turns out, it shaved off a good 3 seconds, bringing the boot-time to an astoundingly short 20s!

Internet optimizer - I've checked this option but I've yet noticed any changes to my online surfing speeds. Perhaps maybe one of you readers might experience speed increases.

Improve the speed of Windows XP - This is the part where I like the most, and it's also the best feature of this program. As you know, Windows XP is far superior in terms of speed when compared to Vista. So why not make it faster? I've tested it out, and it really works. Shame on you, vista.

Prevent cookie "planting" - You can enable this option to prevent those malicious websites from planting unwanted cookies on your PC. These cookies usually threatens your privacy, and do more harm than good most of the time.

Privacy eraser - Erases history and autocompletes

Closing Comments:

This software should be installed on every Windows XP computer out there! Hell, there's even a helpful [help] at the side of each option which explains how it works! This freeware is staying put on my harddisk forever!

EAccelerator is a free open-source PHP accelarator, optimizer, and dynamic content cache. It increases the performance of PHP scripts by caching them in their compiled state, so that the overhead of compiling is almost completely eliminated. It also optimizes scripts to speed up their execution. eAccelarator typically reduces server load and increases the speed of your PHP code by 1- 10 times.

To install follow the steps

1. Download and extract the source for eAccelerator.

# cd /usr/local/src/
# wget http://bart.eaccelerator.net/source/0.9.5.3/eaccelerator-0.9.5.3.tar.bz2
# tar jxvf eaccelerator-0.9.5.3.tar.bz2

2. Build, configure and install the XCache module.
# cd eaccelerator-*
# phpize
# export PHP_PREFIX="/usr"
# ./configure --enable-eaccelerator=shared --with-php-config=$PHP_PREFIX/bin/php-config
#  make && make install

You can see a message like this . Note the extension directory.

=============
Build complete.
Don't forget to run 'make test'.

Installing shared extensions: /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/
==============

3. Now configure the php.ini file ( To find .ini file, use the command `php -i | grep php.ini` )

# cat eaccelerator.ini >> /usr/local/Zend/etc/php.ini

Replace the following line in php.ini with correct path ,which describes the Installed shared extensions that we noted above.

zend_extension="/usr/lib/php4/eaccelerator.so"

It will become like this,

zend_extension =  /usr/local/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613/eaccelerator.so

4. Restart apache and confirm the eAccelerator installation.
# /etc/init.d/httpd restart

# php -v

Getting frustrated while you wait for your operating system to load? Are some of your applications

Getting frustrated while you wait for your operating system to load? Are some of your applications not working quite right? Tired of trying to figure it out?

Then it’s time to give RegSeeker, a free Windows registry cleaner, a go at cleaning and optimizing your Windows registry.

A jam-packed, jumbled registry can be one of the chief causes of computer slowdown and malfunction. A messy registry can often put a brake on your system, cause programs to stop working properly, and aggravate you while you hang around waiting for the operating system to load at a snails pace.

Even a new/newer computer is not immune to this type of problem. Over time, sometimes a very short time, repeated loading of the operating system and application software can create errors and leave unnecessary entries in the registry. This is where RegSeeker, a multilingual registry cleaner/optimizer, can prove to be very useful.

RegSeeker’s primary function is to clean your registry, which it does easily, safely, and thoroughly. Just launch the program, click on “Clean the Registry”, and delete the listed unneeded registry entries.

Congratulations, you now have a newly optimized computer!

Despite the fact RegSeeker has an automatic registry backup feature, I strongly recommend that you analyze the search results very carefully, and then ensure you have in fact backed up before deleting any registry entries.

After a previous review of this application, I received one comment in which the reader indicated he had suffered a complete meltdown of his computer after having run this application.

On the other hand I have been safely using this program on a daily basis for over three years, and I have not had to use this backup feature yet. However, as we all know there’s always a first time and that generally occurs when you least expect it. So my advice; err on the side of caution any time you are working with the registry and be sure to backup.

I download and test, 1-2 applications daily, so this program gets a real workout on my machines. As well, I use Revo Uninstaller, a powerful application uninstaller to uninstall applications which means less work for RegSeeker.

RegSeeker is multifunctional in that it also performs tweak operations. It can clean out your startup entries, Add/Remove program entries, adjust color schemes, change personal information entries, and it includes a general “Tweaks” menu option. I have found this tweaking ability to be relatively useful.

RegSeeker is an extremely valuable tool for keeping your Registry in perfect running order, and its “Tweaks” editing options allow you to do more with the user interface than you might have previously thought was possible.

RegSeeker is FREE for personal use only.

System Requirements: Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 Server

Download at: Download.com

Bạn tải TCP Optimizer tại đây http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php (600KB) hỗ trợ Windows 9x/ME/2k/XP/XP-SP2 (XP2)/2k3 (2003) tương thích tất cả đường truyền từ Dial up, ADSL,Cable... đến Wifi do VNPT, FPT, Viettel, Medianet, SPT, Netnam... cung cấp.

+ Test mạng bằng TCP Analyzer Report rồi post kết quả lên http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php (phần Share your results)

184124858368.00 to be precise.

I've got a problem with a set of sql statements in production. Fortunately the problem is reproducible in a non-prod environment.

These statements all reference one particular virtual column in a composite function-based index.

The sql statements all look something like this:

SELECT col1
FROM my_schema.table1 tab1
WHERE ...
AND NVL(col2,'UNASSIGNED') = SYS_CONTEXT('MY_CONTEXT','MY_COL2_VALUE')
...

And they are raising the following error:

ORA-00904: "MY_SCHEMA"."TAB1"."SYS_NC00062$": invalid identifier

This "SYS_NC00062$" is a hidden/virtual column on this table that is part of a function-based index. I can see it here at least:

select *
from sys.col$
where obj# in (select object_id from dba_objects where object_name = 'TABLE1' and owner = 'MY_SCHEMA') order by col#;

This article isn't about this error specifically. Not yet at least but I might blog about it later once I know some more.

However, in the meantime, I've just started gathering details, running some extended trace files (10046, 10053), etc with a view to finding some extra information and then probably raising an issue on metalink.

I've not even started analysing this info yet but as I zipped through the 10053 file, I noted something odd.

Note that in this 10053 trace file, the original reported SYS_NC00062$ has now become SYS_NC00066$ because I dropped and recreated the FBI to see if that helped - it didn't.

Looking at the cost_io numbers, you get various costs for various access methods - e.g a 16.00, a 3.00, a 15632.00, a 53.00 but then holy moly:

***** Virtual column Adjustment ******
Column name SYS_NC00066$
184124858368.00
***** End virtual column Adjustment ******

I've literally done nothing yet but seen that number and thought I'd put in down quickly in an article.

But wow - that's a big adjustment! What's that about?

I picked the wrong day to leave my Jonathan Lewis CBO book at home...

During the dot com boom, early on - like 1995, I met a gentleman who sold an online trading system to a large investment bank for $50M in stock. During the dot com boom, the stock ran up to about 200M before his non-compete contract finished, and he cashed out his 200M about a year before the bust. He created his own VC Fund and has been playing with it ever since. I think he was 32 at the time.

My interaction with this fellow was during a non-profit's fund raising meeting. I was familiar enough with him to ask the following questions:

Me: Holy smokes, life is good.

He: It's been quite a ride, actually.

Me: What have you learned?

He: What I've learned is that my assumptions from the start-up days are incorrect about how wealth would affect me.

Me: How so?

He: Well, when I was in a two-bedroom apartment and cramming out the code and getting everything built, I thought if I could just get 5 or 6 million in the bank, I could live off the interest at about 200,000 after taxes for the rest of my life. You know, set for life. Now that I have many multiples of that amount, I am seeing completely new vistas, new ways that money can be put to use. It turns out it's not enough for the things I now want to do.

Me: So you could spend it all tomorrow?

He: No problem. Go get a copy of the Robb Report Magazine. These people market heavily to the super-affluent. Buy this island, buy this jet, buy this castle, etc. Their goal is to ignite your imagination.

Problem is, I know these people. They have the yachts, the jets, etc. One looks like a bumpkin to them. Even with 200 million. So I'm trying not to blow it all in one place.

Me: How do you spend your time.

He: I'm learning how to fly.

Me. A jet?

He: Eventually...

I left it there. In other words his point was that the eye is infinitely expandable to meet the income and spend it. Clearly he was not planning to live off the interest. He turned out, in the words of Nassim Nicholas Taleb to be an optimizer, not a satisfizer. Looking for the bigger, better deal. Not looking for ways to be satisfied with what he had. Taleb makes the case that optimizers are less happy with life. Satisfizers find equalibrium, care less about what others think, and use the cards dealt within an economy that does not over extend their resources. He also makes the case that they are better friends (satisfizers) because they are present and available to be friends without being distracted by optimizing their time with you so they can be off doing the empire tweaking.

I think I have no idea which I am. I'm satisfied with so much in life, yet I want to expand my influence.

Hmmm

Hello world, I have come up with some more important and interesting information for all of you on the wave soldering process. This time it is about the Dwell time. Dwell time factor is quite important in determining the quality of the printed circuit boards manufactured by the wave soldering process. Dwell time makes a great impact on the wave soldering process and also, it is quite a vital factor in determing the wave soldering process performance.

Dwell time for the wave soldering process can be defined as the phase through which a dynamic process remains halted in order to let the another process take place. During any stage of the wave soldering process it is quite necessary to monitor the dwell, so as to get the best possible performance of the wave solder. Suitable amount of dwell time also affects the quality of the product manufactured and if it is monitored quite well then a great amount of consistency could be obtained for the printed circuit board manufactured.

The wave solder optimization process is also dependent the dwell time for the wave solder processes. The performance of the wave soldering machine depends on the controlling of the dynamic process taking place in it and in order to control them efficiently they need to have a proper data from the dwell time needed to make the performance of the dynamic process quite productive. So it is suggested to have proper information on the dwell times of the dynamic process so as to make it affective.

I recently stumbled on an issue for the first time, while migrating an application from 9i to 10g.

When migrating an application to 10g, one thing that needs to be considered is the optimizer cost model change.

In Oracle 9i, the cost model parameter (_optimizer_cost_model) is set to IO by default, while in 10G it is set to CHOOSE, seems to default to CPU in all cases however.

It doesn't seem like much, but the implications are serious.

The IO cost model provides implicit data conversion and sorting.

In the case of my application, the developers had relied on implicit data conversion and data sorting when designing the reporting module.

In short, they had not included any ORDER BY clauses and were comparing CHAR's with NUMBER's.

Obviously when there were only 1 or 2 predicates in the WHERE clause, it didn't make a difference wether sorting was implicit or not.

So after a migration, if you see strange sorting order and the ORA-01722: invalid number error, check your code.

A workaround is to set the _optimizer_cost_model value to IO.
