We’ve discussed door to door marketing in our company and on our blogs for quite some time now

We've discussed door to door marketing in our company and on our blogs for quite some time now. We've done our research, and done our testing, and our new service is set for launch in 13 cities across Missouri on July 1st, 2008.

Door to door based marketing has been around forever, and has really never lost it's effectiveness. By bypassing mailboxes, and placing advertisements directly on consumers doorsteps, advertisers see a much higher ROI than traditional and much more expensive marketing channels. MoVaAds operates a shared advertising publication that is distributed throughout the city in 13 Missouri markets. Leverage our mass reach in your community to get your message where it counts- in the hands of every consumer in town!

Where we differ, is in the fact that we combine the grassroots effort of door to door distribution with new age technology and mobile marketing techniques. Each advertisement placed is fitted with a QR code and SMS functionality to allow consumers to extend their savings, and remember your brand further by always having your info in their cell phone.

We've already launched our new website located at MoVaAds.com. Come on over and check us out!

An interview with Paul, the English assistant,

1. Why did you decide to teach?
I gradually came into it. I started out teaching in private schools in Italy, with the intention of going back to England after 2 years. I wanted to live in another country and learn the language. It was good experience. However, I started to like moving and moving – so things just snowballed. It was also a difficult period in the UK. Unemployment etc. Life in Italy was more lively at the time in comparison to the UK.

2. How long have you been teaching English?
About 28 years.

3.Why in Italy?
I applied to teach in Germany, Japan and Italy. Italy was the first country I got a job offer from. I liked Italy for the art, culture, the people etc.

4.Why did you learn Italian?
If you live in a country you have to learn the language otherwise it’s like not learning home. You learn about a place when you make friends with a lot of people.

5.How did you learn this language?
Self-study, listening, practising, studying grammar, a girlfriend...

6.Did you have difficulty learning Italian?
Yes, it was very difficult for me. I didn’t study languages at University- Latin languages are very different from English.

7.Do you think you will study other languages?
I don’t think so. I will if I need it, but only for that reason.

8.Which ones? What language do you like most?
English, because it is my mother tongue. It’s a very flexible language, which is something I appreciate.

10.Do you have any advice for Italian or other exchange students who want to learn a language?
The best way is to go and live in the country of origin. Especially if you are a language student and thus probably study grammar and syntax for years , what you need is to use the language, and hear it spoken. But you have to be careful not to pick up bad pronunciation and it depends on the company you keep. I think the best way is to work in a country- in a big city- and make friends, but friends who are interesting!!!

Entretien avec Brigitte, l'assistante de français

We work in close cooperation with the Tuymazy City and Region Administration. We appreciate their support of our initiative and hope our work together will make our city most "livable" for all ages.

Tuymazy Television Center is our big supporter as well. We especially appreciate efforts of the director Elena Kornilova, who is volunteering to teach the Television class at the University and is investing a lot of effort in this project. We are hoping that our cooperation will grow even deeper and are working on obtaining funding for our partner TV Studio "50+" project.

We can not overestimate the help of Tuymazy State College of Law and its Head Nurislam Gareyev to us. We are enourmously thankful to them for welcoming us in their facilities for free and their generous offer to use all the available equipment free of charge as well. We also highly appreciate their daily support of all our initiatives.

Tuymazy Council of Veterans of War and Labour is a regional nongovermental organization whose mission is to advocate for the interests of older people and work on telling the story of the old to the younger generations. Thank you for working with us on the "TV Studio 50+" project!

On Christmas morning we decorate a Christmas tree. We have that folk custom: We can´t eat anything so that we see a little gold pig - that means that we´ll have happiness in the next year. On Christmas Eve we sing carols, watch TV and we have a good state of mind. The typical tradition on Christmas Eve is the Christmas dinner. We have dinner between five and seven o'clock. The ain course is a carp with potatoe salad. For dessert we have home - made Christmas cookies, apple pie or fruit. After dinner the custom is to pour lead (so we know what our future will be) ,cut apples (we find out if we´ll be healthy next year), throw a shoe toward the door (girls do this to find out what way their lover will come from) and listen to carols. Before this, the family sit around the Christmas tree and we give presents to each other. About midnight some families go to the church.
That is a typical traditional Christmas in the Czech Republic.

Imagine if you will, a whole new generation of ticket purchasing and redemption for anything from baseball games to the opera. By bringing together several new areas of technology, this can be an extremely streamlined and simple process. Imagine heading down with the family to the ballpark to see a baseball game on a friday night. As you arrive at the stadium, you get a message on your mobile phone. "Would you like to connect to ABC Stadium?" You opt to receive the data tranmission. Instantly your provided a menu which includes purchasing tickets on the spot. You can input the number of tickets your family requires, where you'd like to sit, and pay fast via Paypal mobile or some other form of mobile payment. Your tickets are then delivered to your phone via Bluetooth. During the purchase process, you can opt to input the mobile numbers of your family members so they can receive their own M-Ticket on their own phone for easier admission. You family could then proceed to the turnstyle and scan your cellphone screen on a scanner to gain entry to the stadium. The whole process could take place during the time you walk from the parking gararge to the stadium gate. Several technologies would have to come together, but all are already in function today. We just need to bring it all together. Among the benefits, some highlights include no paper what so ever, to reduce cost, no data charges to the mobile users because the transmission of data takes place via Bluetooth instead of the user's wireless network. Efficiency, and advanced tracking infomation would be among the benefits for the merchants who utilize such a service. While the customer is waiting in line, after they've purchased their ticket, it provides a perfect opportunity to utilize it's opt in status via Bluetooth. They could tranfer advertisments to user's mobile phones that are relevant to their company, products, or services. Other advertising opportunities are available that otherwise wouldn't be with the paper ticket method. There's always the problem of older citizens and peope who are so-called "tech-illiterate" who are not going to know how, or learn to know how to work such a system. To remedy this, a strong advertising campaign would have to take place throughout the venue to promote the use of Bluetooth, and to make sure everyone is "visible" to their Proximity Marketing System. Large poster could be spread about that layout how to turn on and use the features of this system.

Hi !!

We are Sarah & Tomy and we are students at the Lycée Alexis de Tocqueville. We want to tell you about the incredible experience that we are living. Grasse, our home town is giving young people between 16 and 25 the opportunity to build up a project and to realise it through the Cité-Rêves programme.

Sarah, Tomy and M. Leleux, Mayor of Grasse, at the Cité-Rêves award ceremony, 23 November 2007.

So we decided to apply. In fact, we had to prepare a file with the description and the aim of our project. Actually we wanted to make a trip in South Africa to see and talk about the consequences of Apartheid nowadays. After a lot of work and discussion with our teachers, our file was ready for evaluation. One week later, we were called for an interview in front of a jury of 10 people to defend our project and to show our motivation. When we finished, we were so happy because we already had the answer : YES!!

We are now ready to go to South Africa. The city of Grasse has given us € 2100 to make our project real. This money will be used to pay for our flight ticket and all the expenses that we'll have over there.

Now what does our project consist in ?

Why have we chosen to go to South Africa? In fact Tomy's family live in South Africa. One part in Johannesburg, South Africa's capital and the other one in Durban, on the East Coast. We'll stay in Johannesburg because in this incredible city we can see the consequences of Apartheid better than anywhere else.
Why this project ? The issue of Apartheid is a very difficult one to study but we want to show that it is still present in social relationships even if it was abolished by law almost twenty years ago.

The tittle of our project is : "What is life like after Apartheid?" and in French "L'Apartheid : où en est-on ?"
We'll do a photographic report and some interviews to show to our class, but also to our school and, if we have the opportunity, to students in some of the schools in and around Grasse. We are in the intensive English section, so it's great for us to visit an English-speaking country!!

Well, I think we have told you everything... so far. I hope you understood us ! Please add comments and if you have the time, give us your thoughts and your points of view... and maybe some advice !
We'll write more in Babelia when we come back!

Take care,

Tomy & Sarah

I was searching around eBay recently, and was blown away by the types of websites people are selling these days. Every listing seems to claim that their website designs are the "perfect recipe" for success with AdSense and other affiliate based marketing. I could tell instantly by just looking at the homepage of these sites, that they would have little to no chance to gain true search engine ranking, and to actually provide a revenue stream for the owner. Being in the business for several years now, I've set out to offer my own version of a complete website business. Our sites are fully automated to always have fresh automatically updated content directed towards a niche topic. All of our sites feature advanced SEO features and link building tools to enhance true organic results. We research niche topics thoroughly to make sure profitability can be achieved with minimal competition. We also offer full support for our sites, as well as hosting options. Take a look at our newly created eBay Store to view the AdSense Website Business's we currently have for sale.

On July 31st this year, eyes4earth announced the launch of Australian Sean Willmore's documentary 'The Thin Green Line' which examines the often dangerous work of park rangers around the world in committing themselves to conservation and a greater cause.

This week ABC TV's Australian Story features Sean's personal story on the making of the documentary and the follow-up since then. 'The Thin Green Line' premiered simultaneously in 50 countries, was watched by about 15,000 people and raised close to A$100 000 to support the families of rangers killed in action.

Many people - including Californian State Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger - have been inspired by Sean’s work and that of the newly formed Thin Green Line Foundation.

The Carpentaria Ghost Nets Programme is looking at new and innovative ways of reusing the ‘ghost n

The Carpentaria Ghost Nets Programme is looking at new and innovative ways of reusing the ‘ghost nets’ washed up on beaches across many parts of northern Australia.

Ghost nets are abandoned fishing nets that have been accidentally lost or deliberately discarded at sea. They can be one of the most damaging forms of marine debris as they may drift for months or years with the currents and continue to catch and kill endangered and culturally important marine wildlife such as turtles and sharks.

However, the positive news is that through a growing alliance of Indigenous land and sea ranger groups, these fishing nets are now being permanently removed from our oceans. To date, approximately 64 000 metres of net have been removed – enough to cover the Sydney Harbour Bridge 120 times. Individual nets weighing over 5 tonne and measuring 4 kilometres in length have been recorded.

The Carpentaria Ghost Nets Programme is looking at ways to make useful items from the ghost nets which could be reused in local communities or resold through Iindigenous Art and Cultural Centres. For example, a design competition hosted last year saw a number of creative designs presented. The winner was a guitar strap with ghost net as a base and interwoven with thongs (flips flops), plastic bags, tyre tubes and other marine debris. The idea can readily utilise the extensive weaving skills available in Aboriginal communities and can be adapted to make belts, mats and bags.

Other ideas submitted included a chair, hammock, fruit bowl, kitchen hanger and an earthquake stabilizing technique to use for mud brick housing. The Programme is also looking overseas for other bright ideas: in Hawaii for example they burn the nets in power generation plants - 100 tonne of marine debris can power 44 houses for a year!

I’ve already discussed the huge marketing potential bluetooth proximity advertising would have

I've already discussed the huge marketing potential bluetooth proximity advertising would have on small businesses, organizations, events, malls, etc. But another thought I had was incorporating affiliate marketing banners, text ads, and SMS/MMS messages into these bluetooth models. They could serve not only as a new revenue stream for the business, but it would supplement the cost for such a system. This would make it cheaper overall and make for a much quicker wide spread adoption.

The thought of blasting out affiliate ads does have it's boundaries. First, the merchant you're driving traffic to has to have a WAP site, or a site that is usable via a mobile device. Second, there's always the issue of it being considered SPAM, and therefore being deleted immediately, or blocked all together.

I recently set up a bluetooth hotspot at my home, using some open source software and a bluetooth USB Dongle. It's somewhat amusing to watch people reach for their phones while walking or jogging in front of the house, and surprisingly, most people open the link request to receive the content. It's just for fun, but it's exciting to think of the possibilities of such a service.

Itacaré (BZL): EarthCollective's Brazilian partner Yonic has launched FOUND: a line of funky products recycled from waste plastic bags.

The launch complements Yonic's inspirational Lixomania (trash-mania) programme. Lixomania is receiving growing recognition for the innovative ways it is recycling & reusing township waste to protect its unique environment and empower a poor local community in finding creative new forms of employment.

THE PLASTIC BAG used at local markets in Brazil and of course in supermarkets around the world, is found in massive numbers and is one of the most harmful waste materials. Because of its lightness, the plastic bag finds its way into remote areas where it´s responsible for the death of both terrestrial and marine

life. Under the Brazilian sun, it breaks up into millions of tiny pieces that animals may fatally mistake for food. However, when found, cleaned and recycled, the bag finds a brand new life as prime material to produce handbags, backpacks, shoes, belts, boxes, and pillows.

These are all part of YONIC's brand new line of products called FOUND . The handbag also contains a YONIC KIT : proceeds from the sale of these products go to support the invaluable work that Yonic does in promoting socio-ecological sustainability and poverty reduction.

You can order all FOUND products directly by emailing: geraldine@yonic.org or check out eyes4earth's ClimateCulture

Hi! We are five guys of 4/B L ("L" stands for "Linguistico"), at “MARCO POLO” High School.
This is the new name of our school, which was called "6th ITC“ until October, and before that "Giulio Cesare”, because it was a side building of another school. Our school is blue and for this reason it is familiarly called "The Smurfs' School' (which is "Scuola dei Puffi" in Italian).

We are very happy to write for the magazine! It’s a great idea!!
Our school is divided into two courses. "technical commercial" (where pupils specialise in accounting, economics, computer science, ICT) and "linguistic" (where pupils specialise in foreign languages). In the language course you can choose two favourite languages among French, Spanish and German, while English is the first foreign language for everybody.
There are a lot of subjects, for example: Maths, Physics, Law, Philosophy, Chemistry, Biology etc.. , and our school day is quite long: six periods (55 minutes each) with one very short break after the third ... just five or ten minutes! We start at 8:15 in the morning and finish at 1:40 p.m., and we have lunch at home.
Every week we have one period with a native speaker (for each language) and another hour to go to the multimedia lab where there are computers; we watch films in the original languages, we surf the Internet and do research about foreign cultures.
In the afternoon the school organises courses in music, ICT, sports, and also specific courses for certificates in foreign languages. There are also optional language courses: Latin, Arabic, Chinese.

The school has three floors and a basement.
In the basement there are two gyms; on the ground floor there is an auditorium, the teachers' room, the principal's and other offices, and a few classrooms; on the first and second floors there are classrooms, labs, and the library. We don't have a cafeteria, just vending machines.
This is all about our school. What about yours?
