Évidemment, j'ai échoué. J'ai une personnalité qui fait en sorte que c'est quasi-impossible pour moi d'avoir une attitude très réservée. Cependant, je vous dirais qu'en terme de "flamboyance", J'ai un profil beaucoup plus bas que par le passé. 

Quoi qu'il en soit, je sens que ce matin, j'aurais été mieux de fermer ma gueule. 

Voyez-vous, j'ai horreur de ce qu'on appelle des "conventions". Vous savez, tout ce qui inclut une réflexion du genre: "Ben qu'esse tu veux, on fait pas toujours ce qu'on veut dans la vie et parfois, il faut faire des concessions et de toute façon, c'est seulement [insérez une période de temps quelconque} dans ta vie, tu mourras pas, bla bla bla, etc."

Il y avait un de ces événements aujourd'hui. Un dîner entre collègues avec le patron pour souligner son anniversaire. Toute l'équipe allait y être alors déjà, ça me mettait de la pression. Ajoutez à cela que je suis nouvelle dans l'équipe, que mon statut d'emploi est temporaire et que le patron en question a énormément de pouvoir dans la boîte. Je considère avoir une très bonne relation avec lui, d'ailleurs je l'apprécie et le respecte beaucoup mais bon, ces trucs-là, ça me rend mal à l'aise. 

Ce matin, ma collègue me demande si je serai de la partie pour le dîner et je lui réponds que oui mais que moi, ces affaires-là, j'aime pas ça. Et là, je commence à pester un peu, lui dit à quel point je déteste avoir de la pression, que je hais me sentir obligée de faire quelque chose, que ma fin de semaine m'a coûté cher et que je n'ai plus une maudite cenne, etc, etc. 

Pour me rendre compte plus tard que c'est justement elle qui avait eu l'idée d'organiser ce dîner...

Remarquez, ça aurait pu être pire. Si j'avais vraiment été fidèle à moi-même, je me serais lancée dans une tirade contre tous ces maudits téteux qui organisent des affaires pour leur boss juste pour bien paraître et à quel point je trouve que c'est de la prostitution pure et simple. Et j'aurais ajouté que c'est à cause d'eux autres que y'en a plein qui se retrouvent donc dans une situation inconfortable car ils savent très bien que s'ils n'y vont pas, ça peut être interprété de façon très négative et éventuellement avoir un impact sur leur carrière. Et que finalement, les téteux me font chier.

Je pense donc avoir limité les dégâts en masse. 

Puis là, avant de partir en peur, je sais très bien que les patrons sont des êtres humains comme vous et moi et qu'ils sont également dotés de sentiments. Je sais tout ça. Sauf que personnellement, à moins que votre patron soit un ami proche ou qu'à la limite, il parte pour la retraite et qu'il était extrêmement aimé de ses employés, je ne comprends pas pourquoi les employés paieraient de leurs poches pour les fêter. (Heureusement qu'on ne fait pas ça en plus pour chaque collègue parce que là, ça serait vraiment le bout de la marde.)

Vivement que je connaisse la date du dîner de Noël en groupe pour que je sache quand caller malade...

Here at the college library, even though we're open to the public, we don't have to deal with this sort of thing very often. But recently this book was found to have had several pictures removed. There's no way of knowing why it was defaced. Most of the photographs were nudes so it could have been a moral absolutist, or it might have been a student looking for kicks and giggles. (I suspect it might have been a combination as not all the photographs were cut out in the same way.) In any case, we had to spend $50 to replace the book.

Remember, art books are expensive. Even with black and white plates, they're so image-heavy that it drives up the price. And they're usually a larger trim size too. Given that this book is out of print, I was actually very lucky to find a clean copy for such a low price.

Finding those clean and tight replacement books is my own quiet battle. No one checks to see what I pay to acquire these late-season trades -- it's simply a point of pride to stretch funds as far as I can. This time it took six months to wait for the right copy to come along. On several occasions acceptable copies appeared but for two and a half times the cost, and once I placed an order only to learn that someone else had beat me to it. It's a small thrill, a small joy, and I truly love the slow, methodical hunt.

But I hate when I have to do for such reasons.

In order to be better able to field any questions that might come from our residents about the survey, the reference desk has a copy on hand as a ready reference resource. Of course, you may always refer residents to me, if you can't fully answer their questions about the survey.

What if a patron wants to pick up a survey here at the library? This survey has been designed to be a mailed survey in order to get a reliable sample of responses from our residents. Because of that design, we will not make surveys available within the library. If any resident should be insistent about picking up a survey here, say, because she or he really didn't receive one in the mail, please refer her or him to me.

I'm excited about the responses we'll be getting from our residents through this survey. The data that we will analyze based on these responses will be very important in helping the library board develop plans for improving our library and its services in the near future.
