Il reggaeton è miscela di musica giamaicana con influenze del reggae e del dancehall…. Questo è uno ballo che è molto difusso tra i giovani in particolare dei paesi caribici. Si caratterizza soprattutto per i movimenti sensuali e provocatori con i corpi nei balli di coppia… questo ballo viene anche chiamato perreo (doggy style).

La crescita della salsa si dice sia iniziata nelle strade di New York alla fine degli anni 1960. L'influenza degli immigrati latini, in particolare cubani e portoricani, a New York, e la volontà di queste persone di sentirsi più vicine ai loro paesi, portò alla crescita della salsa. La casa discografica di New York Fania Records lanciò molti dei primi cantanti e musicisti salsa come Willie Colón e Héctor Lavoe nel 1967.

Da New York, la salsa si espanse a Cuba, Porto Rico, Repubblica Dominicana, Colombia, Messico, Venezuela e altri paesi latinoamericani. Cantanti come Tito Puente e Celia Cruz divennero nomi familiari, non solo tra i latini del nordamerica ma in tutti i caraibi.

Gli anni settanta i protagonisti della salsa furono questi artisti: Ray Barretto, Tipica 73, Conjunto Clasico, Rubén Blades, Eddie Palmieri, Jose Arroyo quest’ultimo fece scatenare questo ritmo nella sua Colombia.

Negli anni ottanta la salsa popolare si sviluppò nella dolce e tenera salsa romantica, con testi inneggianti all'amore e al romanticismo arrivando cosi alla cosiddetta salsa erotica. La canzone "Noches Calientes" di José Alberto segna questo periodo.

La salsa durante gli anni ottanta si espanse inoltre in Messico, Argentina, Perù, Europa e Giappone; in quest'ultimo paese, in particolare, fu resa popolare della famosa Orquesta del Sol.

La Colombia continuò le sue innovazioni nella salsa per tutti gli anni ottanta e artisti come Fruko, Los Nemus del Pacifico e Latin Brothers aggiunsero influenze di cumbia.

La salsa venezuelana divenne popolare, specialmente Oscar D'Leon.

Sviluppatasi dalla salsa cubana, la timba naque su ritmi songo e fu inventata da gruppi come Los Van Van e NG La Banda. Per l'inizio degli anni novanta, questo tipo di salsa originaria di Cuba divenne nota come timba ed ebbe successo in tutto il mondo.

No próximo domingo conheceremos quem é a miss universo 2008. O concurso de misses ficou esquecido por anos aqui no Brasil, agora parece que esta retomando a ter algum espaço na mídia, há algum tempo a televisão voltou a apresentar o concurso. Vamos torcer pela Miss Brasil, afinal de contas o Brasil não ganha há décadas.

Escolhi quais são as minhas 10 favoritas, vamos ver se a ganhadora esta entre elas no domingo. Da esquerda para a direita de cima para baixo temos a Miss Angola, Brasil, Canadá, Chipre, França, Índia, Porto Rico, Rússia, Uruguai e Venezuela, sempre ela a Miss Venezuela é lindíssima! Porém a minha favorita é a Brasil, boa sorte Natália Anderle.

Em nosso périplo pelo Caribe a bordo do catamarã Kaka-Maumau fomos dar com os costados na Marina Puerto del Rey, ao Sul da cidade de Fajardo, em Porto Rico, nas chamadas lhas Virgens Espanholas.

Apesar de ficar longe de tudo, a Puerto del Rey é a maior marina que já vimos: são 1100 vagas molhadas e outras 1000 em seco, três travel lifts (um deles de 165 toneladas com 32 pés de boca), um píer central de mais 500 metros (como um mastro com sete pares de cruzetas) que de tão grande tem serviço de transporte 24h em carrinhos de golfe.

Ficamos por lá uns vinte dias e o comandante Fernando fez amizade com um velejador argentino, que depois de ganhar uma certa intimidade comentou:

- Seus tripulantes bebem muito, inclusive a mulher. Desde cedo, quando passo para caminhar ela já está com uma lata de cerveja nas mãos!

Depois Fernando nos contou que riu e explicou ao novo amigo:

- Na realidade eles fumam muito. Hélio bebe, mas não tanto assim e só depois de meio dia, Mara só toma Diet Coke e as latas de cerveja vazias eles usam como cinzeiros.

Deste dia em diante passamos a guardar as latas de refrigerante para usarmos como cinzeiros. Não podia parecer que somos uma tripulação de beberrões.

La bomba è un genere di musica ballabile, tipico di Porto Rico. Benché i critici siano incerti sull'origine esatta della bomba, alcuni dicono che si sviluppò alla fine del 17° secolo in Loiza, un paese di Porto Rico dove la maggioranza degli abitanti erano Africani.

La Bomba prosperò dove gli africani dell'ovest ed i loro discendenti lavoravano nelle piantagioni coloniali.
 

Si proibivano le religioni Africane in queste comunità di Porto Rico cosicché ci fu una fusione tra la venerazione del sacro a Santiago e le abitudini religiose dell'Africa. 

  
Era nei balli di grancassa dove gli africani schiavizzati celebravano battesimi ed unioni, e programmavano anche "rebeliónes".   
  

 
Gli strumenti di musica tipicamente usati nella bomba sono il buleador che provvede al ritmo,

 il subidor che provvede anche al ritmo

I tamburi sono accompagnati dalla battitura ritmica dei bastoni e delle maracas per generare un suono ricco di battute dove el bailador può sentire la percussione battere ritmicamente .

La bomba può essere descritta come un dialogo fra il ballerino e il percussionista. Una sorta di sfida , di duello ritmico.

La PLENA ebbe origine come genere musicale fra le classi povere dei lavoratori residenti nei barrios di Ponce, circa 100 anni fa. Anche conosciuta come "el periodico cantado", perchè le canzoni riportavano eventi della vita quotidiana della società locale.

In questo genere musicale confluirono elementi della musica Jibaro (ispanico-arabici) misti con influenze africane e creole europee. Con il fenomeno dell'inurbanizzazione verso la capitale San Juan di molti poveri e disoccupati, la Plena divenne la tipica musica di strada. Difatti uno stile chiamato "parada 21" (dal numero della fermata dell'autobus a Santurce, vicino alla quale musicisti e ballerini si esibivano) divenne famoso in tutto il paese.

La musica della Plena è molto più melodica di quella carica di percussioni tipica della Bomba, dove la presenza dei bailadores è fondamentale per conferire al ritmo un effetto visualizzante. Nella Plena invece non vi è infatti un dialogo fra percussioni e ballerini.

Gli strumenti tipici di questo genere sono le percussioni dette "Panderos".

Genere ballabile in coppia, assomiglia un po' al Merengue dominicano. Durante gli anni '50 uno dei più acclamati musicisti che suonò Plena fu Rafael Cortijo y su Combo con Ismael Rivera come voce solista. Oggi uno dei gruppi musicali più conosciuti sono "Los Pleneros de la 21", mentre il gruppo di danze portoricane conosciuto a livello mondiale è quello di Modesto Cepeda y la su Escuelita de Bomba y Plena.

Fernando Sosa, nasce nel 1977 in Uruguay.
Arriva in Italia a 15 anni e conosce il suo grande maestro Alberto Valdes, che dopo qualche anno lo porta a Cuba per approfondire le radici afro-cubane. Dopo essere stato diverse volte a Cuba si trasferisce a Bologna dove entra a far parte del suo primo gruppo di spettacolo insieme ad altri due ballerini professionisti provenienti dal Tropicana di Cuba.
Con l'esperienza maturata comincia i suoi primi corsi e le sue prime serate di animazione in giro per l'Italia.
Nel '98 Alberto Valdes lo chiama a far parte del famoso gruppo di spettacolo 'Otra idea' dove conosce Rafael Gonzalez. Grazie a questo gruppo completa la sua formazione nella danza.

Dopo un'esperienza all'estero, che lo ha portato a ballare a Milano e da Milano ai congressi di New York e Los Angeles, nel 2000 decide insieme a Rafael Gonzalez di dar vita ad un nuovo progetto: creare una compagnia di ballo composto da uomini e donne che prende il nome di Tropical Gem.

Fernando Sosa ha circa 1000 allievi ed ha partecipato ai più famosi congressi di salsa in tutto il mondo.

Il reggaeton miscela musica giamaicana con influenze del reggae e del dancehall, con ritmi dell'America Latina come la bomba e la plena, ed a sonorità tipiche della musica hip hop. La musica è combinata inoltre con il rapping in lingua spagnola. Il reggaeton ha avuto il merito di dare ai giovani ispano-americani, a partire da Porto Rico e Panamá, un genere musicale da considerare proprio a tutti gli effetti. Le influenze di questo genere si sono diffuse alle più ampie comunità latino-americane degli Stati Uniti così come al pubblico del Centro e Sud America.

Sebbene questo genere subisca le influenze di generi come l'hip hop e la dancehall giamaicana, sarebbe sbagliato definire il reggaeton come la versione "latina" di questi generi; il reggaeton ha un suo specifico beat ed un suo peculiare ritmo, considerando che il Latin rap è semplicemente hip hop registrato da artisti con discendenze latinoamericane. Il ritmo tipico del reggaeton viene individuato con il termine "Dem Bow", derivato dal titolo di una canzone dancehall giamaicana che rese popolare questo tipo di ritmo nei primi anni '90.

Le origini del reggaeton rappresentano un ibrido di diversi differenti generi musicali ed influenze derivate da vari paesi caraibici, latino-americani, e dagli Stati Uniti. Il reggaeton tuttavia è fortemente associato a Porto Rico, poiché questo è il paese da dove proviene lo stile musicale maggiormente diffuso e famoso, nonché il paese di provenienza dei maggiori esponenti del genere.

I testi del reggaeton tendono ad avere influenze più forti nell'hip hop che nella dancehall. Come l'hip hop, il reggaeton è stato causa di una certa polemica, anche se in maniera minore, per via di alcune liriche esplicite e dello svilimento della figura femminile;

Ulteriore polemica è causata dal perreo, un ballo con i tratti sessuali espliciti, associato con musica del reggaeton. solitamnete lui sta dietro e lei davanti, entrambi con lo sguardo nella stessa direzione, e quando cmq si cambia spesso è in pose piuttosto osè..
...in eraltà nn ci sono passi specifici, molti movimenti sono stati presi dalla salsa e dal merengue, cmq in linea di massima si tratta di mantenere sempre un contatto col partner perciò in fin dei conti è tutto uno strusciarsi...dipende molto dall'agilità dei ballerini e dai movimenti del bacino...(ma questo è altro...ed è qui che tutto comincia a diventare a luci rosse...a me personalmente..questo tipo di ballo non piace...soprattutto se ballato come se fosse un vero e proprio "atto sessuale", e ancor di più soprattutto se ballato da chi ha un doppio fine e non lo vede come un semplice gioco...vedendolo dal vivo, diventa quasi disgustoso).

Questo è un esempio di perreo, ad un concerto di Don Omar, invece, per chi volesse approfondire l'argomento su youtube ci sono altri video, ma sono troppo espliciti per essere pubblicati!

Invece.....il reggaeton cubano...
L’origine del Reggaeton cubano è segnata da diversi gruppi di Cuba a partire dal 1999. Lo stile venne ripreso dall’America Latina, in particolare da Porto Rico. La prima band nota per il nuovo stile musicale si chiamava SBS, molto amata tra i giovani cubani perché mostrava un nuovo stile originale, un rap con influenze portoricane mischiato alla musica cubana. Successivamente si costituirono altri gruppi famosi in tutto il paese, come Candiman, che con uno stile assolutamente originale riuscì ad entrare nelle top ten. La musica di Candiman aveva un’influenza giamaicana, vista la sua provenienza dalla zona orientale di Cuba (Santiago de Cuba). Dopo il 2000 molti gruppi come El Medico, Tegno Caribe, Triangolo Oscuro, Máxima Alerta, Pandalla X, Concepto, Baby Lore e El Insurrecto, Gente de zona, Eddy K riuscirono a farsi strada tra il grande pubblico. Molti di loro hanno acquistato fama mondiale. Questi gruppi mischiano il reggae con la musica delle loro radici cubane, dando vita al tipico sound del reggae cubano. I testi del reggae dell’America Latina sono caratterizzati da parole di discriminazione e disprezzo, elemento abbastanza comune anche nell’Hip Hop. La maggior parte delle band cubane non riprende invece questo stile, interpretando piuttosto nelle loro canzoni temi come la gioia di vivere cubana, l’amore, il ballo e la festa. Questo è anche ciò che il suo pubblico ama e che nei carnevali, nei party e nelle discoteche accompagna la voglia di far festa. I gruppi cubani creano continuamente nuova musica e lavorano incessantemente per avere il riconoscimento tra il pubblico internazionale.

Un désintérêt manifeste qui se justifie: les jeux sont faits, Obama va être investi, alors à quoi bon faire semblant?

A signaler qu'il n'est pas utile d'avoir sa carte du parti démocrate pour voter dans cet état des caraïbes. Il y a beau y avoir en jeu 55 délégués (un total supérieur aux  primaires de mardi prochain dans le Montana et en Dakota du sud), on attend donc moins de 500 000 votants sur les 2,3 millions d'habitants que compte Porto Rico. Hillary Clinton est donnée favorite par les derniers sondages puisque 2 électeurs sur 3 devraient se prononcer en sa faveur. Mais il s'agira d'un baroud d'honneur avant de savoir, peut-être, se retirer avec grâce de la course à l'investiture...

After some serious googling, I think the address is 29 Waverly Place. Whatever. It's the deli right next to Oren's Daily Roast that you go to when the line at Oren's is so long. During the breaks in my Spanish Mystics class (more on that later), I would always go down there to get some Honest Tea. I remember once I was getting a hot tea from the counter, when I found myself 20 cents short. "Don't worry about it!" The kind Indian man behind the counter said. "I'm sorry! I'll get you back next time! I don't know what I was thinking...It must be these finals." "Is no problem!" he said. "Drink cold water before your exams!" his wife chimed in. Every time I go there they make my heart burst, they're so nice. I promptly paid them back the next time I was there.

Next tale of cash woe is at Bliss Cafe in Williamsburg.

I was meeting a friend in Greenpoint for a serious Top Chef viewing when I decided that Chocolate Chip cookies were, at that precise moment, essential. I hightailed it to this cafe after I asked someone on the street where I could get some good cookies. "They're vegan," they responded, "but they're delicious." Oh silly Williamsburg, when will you learn? I stomped over in the cold rain, my hair curling and my tongue crying for chocolate goods. However, when it came time to pay, I realized I was once again, 20 cents short. God damn you Brooklyn and your pricey pastries! ($4.50 for 2 big cookies). "Ugh, I'm sorry, I'm 20 cents short." "Don't worry about it!" The nice girl/waif/model behind the counter said. "Thanks, it's been a long day."

That was last Wednesday. I repaid them last Saturday.

The final offender is what I'm SURE has been the reason for my currently awful karma. It is none other than Porto Rico Coffee.

Before I was diagnosed with the stupidest disease ever, I used to be something of a coffee connosieur, if you will. Thanks to my condition, I have to settle for one cup a week, and it's a cafe au lait at that.

I remember once I was there as someone in line behind me finished a conversation on his cell-phone, saying "but that's dishonest!". I was next, and the barista behind the counter suddenly stopped what he was doing as his eyes glazed over with a faraway look. "But isn't everything dishonest?" he asked, to no one in particular.

I made some weird, commiserative chuckling sound as the other girl behind the counter took my order. "What?" she asked, "Nothing. Your co-worker. He just looks so sad." I got ready to pay for my drink when she told me it was on the house. "You sure?" I asked. She looked at her poor friend as she rung up someone else's drink. "I'm sure."

I totally forgot to tip her.

The next time was last Tuesday when I was jonesing for a cup even though I'd already had one that week. I walked in at 7 pm and asked for a hot coffee. "I'm sorry" another girl behind the counter said. "Bar service stops at 4." "Shit!" I replied. She looked at her co-worker, startled. I clearly wanted my coffee. "We have iced...coffee...though...?" "Yes!" I said, "Yes, I'll have that."
Once again, when it was time to pay, I was a dollar short.
"Don't worry about it!" the girl said. I was already twitching from my first sip. "Thanks. I just really needed a good coffee." I walked out the door, obviously cracked out of my mind. Caffeine does that to me.

I really need to get my shit together, I know. But I am just waiting for the day when credit cards will be accepted regardless of a minimum, everywhere, and probably have our driver's license/school ID/homo sapien identification tag on them. But until then, I will have to rely on the kindness of strangers.

He was a minister with a penchant for doing "good things." Of course, most of this goodwill toward man evolved at at time when the inconquerable John D. needed some public relations help. The nation had grown tired of his name, face, wealth and tactics. It was precisely the work of men like Gates that allowed Rockefeller to leverage the power of the press on his behalf.

The medical work of the Institute, under the leadership of Jewish immigrant and Kentuckian Simon Flexner, was intimately concerned with diseases. In fact, Flexner established himself as a leading pathologist, conducted experiments on behalf of the US government in the Philippines and lived till the ripe old age of 83. Flexner, pictured below with Hideo Noguchi, led the Rockefeller Institute until 1935. (Noguchi , in or about 1912 was charged by several prominent New Yorkers with injected 146 persons (many of them children) with syphilis. The case was settled out of court. Given the Rockefeller's ownership of the entire nation, it's unlikely that any other result was have occurred. The New York Times, as is their habit, came down on the side of the Rockefeller Institute and it's beleaguered Japanese scholar. Noguchi died in Ghana working on a cure for Yellow Fever. Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has established the Hideo Noguchi Memorial Award for scientists making contributions to medicine in Africa. )

Simon Flexner was born to a large family. He was not the only Flexner child with an interest in medicine, nor was he the only one to have a significant career. In fact, his brother Abraham Flexner studied at The Johns Hopkins University, Harvard University and Berlin. With the assistance of Newark-based retailer Louis Bamberger, Abraham Flexner would direct the Institute for Advanced Study. Bamberger seeded the Institute with $5 million in 1930. The Institute, initially housed at Princeton University, would serve as a home for scientific research (including bio-chemical research on infectious diseases). Flexner and Bamberger established a safe haven for Jewish scientists who were being summarily removed from critical positions in Europe. Albert Einstein worked there. J. Robert Oppenheimer worked there.

Abraham Flexner also wrote The Flexner Report. The full title of the report is "Medical Education in the United States and Canada: A Report to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. This report in 1910, according to historians, became an influential guide in the reform of medical school education. It's worth reading. There's even a section called "The Medical Education of the Negro." In that section, Abraham Flexner wrote:

"The medical care of the negro race will never be wholly left to negro physicians. Nevertheless, if the negro can be brought to feel a sharp responsibility for the physical integrity of his people, the outlook for their mental and moral improvement will be distinctly brightened. The practice of the negro doctor will be limited to his own race, which in its turn will be cared for better by good negro physicians than by poor white ones. But the physical well-being of the negro is not only of moment to the negro himself. Ten million of them live in close contact with sixty million whites. Not only does the negro himself suffer from hookworm and tuberculosis; he communicates them to his white neighbors, precisely as the ignorant and unfortunate white contaminates him. Self-protection not less than humanity offers weighty counsel in this matter; self-interest seconds philanthropy. The negro must be educated not only for his sake, but for ours. He is, as far as [the] human eye can see, a permanent factor in the nation. He has his rights and due and value as an individual; but he has, besides, the tremendous importance that belongs to a potential source of infection and contagion."

He continues:

"Of the seven medical schools for negroes in the United States (Howard University, Flint Medical College - New Orleans, Leonard Medical School - Raleigh, NC; Knoxville Medical College; Medical Department of the University of West Tennessee - Memphis; Meharry Medical College - Nashville; National Medical College - Louisville), five are at this moment in no position to make any contribution of value to the solution of the problem above pointed out...They are wasting small sums annually and sending out undisciplined men, whose lack of real training is covered up by the imposing M.D. degree.

Meharry at Nashville and Howard at Washington are worth developing, and until considerably increased benefactions are available, effort will wisely concentrate upon them...The upbuilding of Howard and Meharry will profit the nation much more than the inadequate maintenance of a larger number of schools."

The ties that bind William Jefferson Clinton and Bill Gates to John D. Rockefeller do not extend merely to the realms of politics and finance. In fact, there are more direct connections inside the science lab - and given the history of the scientists associated most closely with Rockefeller, integrity is always an issue. There was the case of Hideo Noguchi and injections of syphillis, but there was also the case of a young doctor in the employ of the Rockefeller Institute who, in 1931, openly contemplated genocide in Puerto Rico.

Susan Lederer, in the American Literary History journal, describes the case of Cornelius Packard Rhoads. Lederer writes, quoting Rhoads:

"Porto Ricans are beyond doubt the dirtiest, laziest, most degenerate and thievish race of men ever inhabiting this sphere. What the island needs is not public health work but a tidal wave or something totally exterminate the population. I have done my best to further the process of extermination by killing off 8."

Rhoads, also known as Dusty, was a graduate of Harvard Medical School (1924). Like Noguchi, he was never found guilty of any wrongdoing. Rhoads would later work for the United States Atomic Commission. What makes his case interesting is that his quote was actually found in a letter he'd written to a colleague. The letter was made public by Puerto Rican nationalist leader (and chemical engineer) Pedro Albizu Campos. His mission in Puerto Rico was to provide relief for persons suffering from the debilitating effects of hookworm. According to Lederer, hookworm was the leading cause of death at the time Rhoads and the rest of the Castle Commission ventured to Puerto Rico. It was also a devastating illness in the American South.

Rhoads also threatened to expose wide segments of the population to cancer. He was the beneficiary of a vigorous defense by his colleagues. He was also allowed to leave the island. Certainly the Puerto Ricans lacked sufficient authority or force to detain him. Lederer's comprehensive coverage bears reading. She states that another Rockefeller Foundation physician George C. Payne lied to investigators about the possibility of transmitting cancer to an unsuspecting population. Payne used a tactic which is still much in evidence today. He suggested the possibility was ludicrous. "In an ironic twist to the cancer transplant story, Rhoads, after his return to the US, pursued the transmissibility of cancer as Ewing's successor as director of the leading cancer research facility, the New York Memorial-Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research. In 1954 Rhoads described to the American College of Surgeons how a "hopelessly sick, heroic woman" allowed doctors to "graft living cancer cells under her skin" to demonstrate that "control over cancer can be won through chemicals."

That sounds a great deal like the case of Hideo Noguchi - all the way down to the undying support of the American media.
