Multi-wall polycarbonate is a lightweight material that allows for high light transmission, high insulation, is flame retardant, impact resistant, and allows for design flexibility and ease of installation. Its insulation rating is R-1.6 to R-3.7, depending on the thickness of the sheet, which for a light-transmitting material is pretty good. It is typically used in greenhouse applications because of these qualities of the material. It comes in a variety of colors which will dictate the amount of light transmitted. It is visually attractive, offering a slightly skewed transparency allowing for privacy without compromising light transmission. The material itself is recyclable.

“21C-Systems designs and markets its proprietary modular shelving solutions to meet the space

"21C-Systems designs and markets its proprietary modular shelving solutions to meet the space management needs of home, office, business, and corporate environments." So begins the "About Us" page of the 21C-Systems website. What really catches my attention is further into the copy: "The 21C-Systems' product is "Eco-Friendly" with all components 100% recyclable. Our U.S. Patent Pending system is 100% produced in the United States utilizing the experience and skill of local artisans. Employing American workers helps to reduce the carbon footprint of 21C as it provides jobs to citizens."

I admit, we at MadMonk Interactive designed and built the website so we have had the privilege of learning a lot about 21C-Systems the past few months. Given our beginnings and ongoing growth, we have a strong affinity for entrepreneurship in general, but more so when it aims to such ideals regarding design, domestic employment, and green corporate citizenship.

On a different note, one conversation we had during concepting and design pointed to the fact that in some instances, some "living spaces" break the traditional models of a room-by-room approach to home and work floor plans. Sure, a bathroom configuration is perfect for a bathroom...but say someone lives in a loft or works in a converted auto-body shop...where does one room start and another end? Privacy needs should allow clear room differentiations to rule, but modularization will continue it's up-swing as evidenced by this product line and others sure to follow.

Did you know that genuine beermats are 100% recyclable? That's right, albeit the emphasis must be on "genuine". Ask any beermat collector, enthusiast or professional buyer and they will tell you that 'real' beermats are made out of pulp board...and this is why they they can be recycled.

However, if you care about the environment, then you must beware of the fakers, these are the guys that call it a beermat, when really is is nothing more than a printed piece of paper that is glued to a piece of board! That is correct...not only is it a fake which cannot be recycled, but it is also useless as a beer mat. Why? Because it lacks the absorbency of a genuine pulp board beermat.

So, next time you are looking for an environmentally friendly way of delivering your advertising message, spare a moment for the humble beermat, but make sure it is a genuine pulp board beermat, available from the manufacturers.

Health is an important part of our goal to make the world a better place. For this reason, TrivaniTM has implemented the Do No Harm Philosophy to govern all of its products. This philosophy states:

Our products contain no known harmful ingredients.

Our formulas cause no known harmful interactions.

Our active, high-science ingredients come in generous, beneficial quantities.

Our products are environmentally friendly and are never tested on animals.

We provide only honest, accurate information about our product ingredients and interactions.

That's not all, however! Our health and personal care products also have a hand in supporting our humanitarian efforts. Many Trivani products are made from rainforest ingredients, purchased from suppliers who get them from indigenous people using traditional methods. In addition, our packaging materials are recyclable, many of our distributors support children around the world, and our corporate partners contribute a portion of their profits to humanitarian causes.

When you purchase Trivani products, you are not just achieving a healthier, fuller lifestyle for yourself. You are helping to fund projects for the benefit of impoverished people, protect the world's rainforests from devastation, and support indigenous cultures in their trade.

We will have different people in our office writing and I am anxious to see their amazing writing abilities!

I have to admit that although I loved the idea of a reusable grocery bag, it took me awhile to get into a rhythm of using them. I have found that I have to keep them in my car, and then when I’m done putting my groceries away I have to bring them back to the car. If not, I forget, and then I’m stuck in the grocery store parking lot, looking at an empty back seat with no Dodo bags. I then sadly go home, because I know I can’t buy groceries without them. So, if you’re like me and you have a poor memory, keep your bags in the car, it helps.

Less than 1% of bags are recycled. It cost more to recycle a bag than to produce a new one. That’s why we love Dodo Bags!

A bright red sign reading: “PLEASE Turn off Lights when Leaving” greeted me bright and e

A bright red sign reading: "PLEASE Turn off Lights when Leaving" greeted me bright and early at my Official Government Office Building when I returned from vacation today. I saw it first in the hallway, then another and another, then one in my office itself.

Besides the freakish capitalization and angled placement, besides my oft-repeated wonderings on HOW exactly someone is supposed to KNOW they're the last one in or out (our office is a square city block and government analyst types, don't, you know, TALK to each other), something else was creeping up on me, something wasn't quite right about these abruptly omnipresent signs.

This sense was solidified and given name when I put down my bag to find a FLYER on my chair. It's name was irony.

"BUILDING recycling program" read the TWO-PAGE (okay they printed double-sided at least, but still) four-color flyer on my chair. It contained a slew of helpful information such as (I kid you not) the six-step process (labeled ominously THE PROCESS, this is it folks, all other processes bow down, this is THE process) for throwing out things. Step 1? "You put your trash in the appropriate trash container in your office, cubicle or other location (e.g., near a printer/copier)." I can't make this stuff up.

But here's where it got really interesting. Reading further, the brochure told me that I was to put my trash in a BLACK trash can with a BLACK bag, recyclables in a BLUE bin with a clear bag. Blue bin? Huh. When I left, I was sure it was black. A quick scan of my office revealed that I was right, it WAS black and ... it had been removed. A not-so-quick scan of the hall revealed that all black bins were gone and a blue-bin cart was coming to town!

The thing is... what are they going to do with the Black recycle bins???

I read on. Hmm, plastics (like the old black bins) with the exception of milk Bottles and Supermarket plastic bags (man, they loves them some messed-up capitalization at my office) are a "RECYCLE NO!"

Houston, we have a situation.

Furthermore, where's my blue bin? Updates tomorrow. time to Turn OfF the LigHts.

Design Within Reach came out with another lovely catalog recently that’s all based on greennes

Design Within Reach came out with another lovely catalog recently that's all based on greenness. Don't misunderstand this post. I like DWR a lot. Their furniture is gorgeous (although not often within reach). And I'm all in favor of the green marketing boom, because even though it's often specious, it at least gets people thinking about their own behavior (said the Pollyanna).

Here's what bugs me: Lots of the stuff in the catalog, and in other green whoop-de-doo efforts I see, touts products as being recyclable, as though that's a great ecological virtue. All it really means is that someone, somewhere might be able to recycle it. Juice boxes are, I believe, fully recyclable, but only if someone strips the layers apart and then finds recycling centers that will take all the layers.

Our local Wal-Mart runs the recycling center in our town. They only take plastics #1 and #2. So anything I buy that's made of other plastics is effectively NOT recyclable. The little "Please Recycle" logo on practically everything is practically meaningless.

I also rarely see "Made from recycled X" on products. Some paper products do indicate not only what percentage of materials are recycled, but how much is post-consumer recycled material. This is great, and I'd like to see more of it, especially the post-consumer part. Where in the heck does all the material go that collected at local recycling centers? I know it goes somewhere, and the Pollyanna in me refuses to believe that it's just thrown into landfills. Someone is buying at least some of it, and where does it go?

I have seen Adirondack chairs and fleece jackets made from recycled materials, but how many of those do we buy? Wouldn't it be great if a) things would be reused instead of even wasting the resources to recycle them and b) if recycled material formed the preponderance of the junk people buy? Computer cases made out of yogurt cups (currently unrecyclable in Lawrence, KS), toothpaste tubes made out of deli containers (currently unrecyclable in Lawrence, KS), any other ideas?
