Millions of plastic bottles are disguarded everyday. Many get recycled commercially, but there are many uses for them within the home.

Empty plastic soda bottles can be reused in many different ways.

Funnel

Cut the top off an empty soda bottle to make a useful funnel. Large and small bottles make different sized funnels. Use for pouring oil into your car, pouring paint, etc.

Plant Propagator

Cut the bottle in half across the middle. seeds in the bottom, tape the top back on, place in a warm spot. This makes a mini propagator.

Plant Waterer

Remove the cap and cut off the bottom of the bottle. Turn upside down (cap end first) and push into the soil. Fill with water. This will water your plants automatically.

Boot Trees

Use 1 litre soda bottles as boot trees. Push one down the leg of each boot to stop it bending over, or getting floppy.

Save Water

Save Water. Take a 1 liter plastic bottle and fill with water, screw the cap on tightly and place in the toilet cystern. This saves water with every flush.

Emergency Kit (Car)

Fill 1 liter bottles with sand and keep in your car boot. They are useful during freezing weather, on icy roads.

Gardening Helper

Protect other plants while using weedkiller (herbicide) in the garden. Cut a 2 liter plastic bottle in half. Take the top half and place it over the weed you want to spray. Take off the cap and spray through the hole. The spray won't get onto other plants.

Candle Holder

Cut the tops off the bottle, just under the shoulder level to make candle.

Funky Stool

Take 24 empty 2 liter soda bottles, remove all the labels. Glue them together along the sides to make a very strong circular stool.

Matching Table

Use the same method as above and add a top to make a small.

Have you not noticed that there were more and more disaster within the past decade. Although I do no

Have you not noticed that there were more and more disaster within the past decade. Although I do not have excellent memory, but definitely I don't remember any extreme disaster until the recent years. If you have noticed that, have you ever wondered what exactly caused all this disaster? Do you think it's just coincidence that all those extreme disasters just simply hit us during the last decade?

I don't think so, things don't look so simple to me. What's more, i think the tsunami in 2006 which had a devastating effect was due to global warming. Of course, the direct cause was due to the crashing of platonic plates, however I think global warming played an important role in destroying the plague area. Why? Simpily because of the increase in sea water level, it may only seemed to be a few centimeters increase, but just imagine how much surface area - and the total volume of water in it. That's a tremendous amount of energy when collected during tsunami forming. That is why I think that global warming is the main destruction cause.

Now, what causes global warming? A lot of factors are considered to the cause of global warming. In short, we are wasting much more then we needed. We wasted paper as if it was from the air, some threw it away when they made miscellaneous mistakes on the paper. Some just simply used it in an obnoxious way like doing origami (its actually not that bad either). We use papers one sided only, totally took the second slide for granted. Green house gases emission level increased drastically, due to factories or even people (eg. religous). Most of us didn't care for the environment was due to troublesome in recycling, but if most Japanese are able to do it, why can't we?

I seek anyone who is reading this post, be it you like it or not, be it if I make any sense to you. Even you can't understand a single shit in the post, please I believe you can understand this, care for the environment. Love the Earth so that we will be loved, once the destruction has been made, nothing can slavage it and I really men NOTHING. The day when global warming settled down, no matter how we try to control it, everything is too late.

Recent disaster - Within the last 2 weeks - Myanmar, Cyclone.
-China, Earthquake. (20,000-30,000 killed), do not have
direct link along with Global warming, but that doesn't mean we
shouldnt care for the Earth.

Some little things you can do for the environment...
1. If you're a student, pass year papers or notes with any usable space and keep it for working - math or even sci. (Re-using)
2. Before you sleep, do off your computer, leaving it on is extremly wasting electricity, be it u are rich or not. The Earth is not rich enough to give you electricity.

3. If you're doing spring cleaning, please separate the papers away from the "normal waste". Put it together with your newspaper for recycling. (Recycling)
4. If its possible, try not to on the air-condition when not needed. (Reducing)
Together with all this 3Rs - Reduce Reuse Recycle
We can make this world a better place.

Not only did this turn out SUPER adorable, it was fast, easy & only cost less then .50!!!! Best

Not only did this turn out SUPER adorable, it was fast, easy & only cost less then .50!!!! Best part? It's also a nice 'green' environmental re-con! So I went to a church yard sale today & saw a few mens XL under shirts that I liked the fabric of... you know I have a problem when I see clothes are fabric to sew... not just clothes lol :) ! Anyways I got got a bag full of great stuff for $2... which ended up at .20 each... & I got 2 of these shirts! So I pay for them & then get a great idea... I'll make dresses for the twins! It's all I could think about on the drive home... so I came home & did just that!

I am very happy with how it turned out & am taking a break to post some pics & the tutorial before I finish the 2nd one up. This is an awesome way to recycle those old t-shirts you have sitting around. Anyways first the pics, then the tute! It only takes a few seams & can be done on a serger or a regular sewing machine. It is stretchy & easy to get on, so kiddos can easily dress themselves. I will say that its not the best for crawling as it gets pulled down a lot, but otherwise it is great & can grow with them! First has a fun summer dress... then a summer tunic top & then a skirt!!

So here are the pics of little miss Carlie :) She is standing good & taking 3-8 steps in a row now!

And on the mannequin as a toddler tunic...

Finally on the OTHER mannequin as a skirt :)

Now for the FREE tutorial!!!! This dress was made with a mens XL jersey t-shirt... the finished product is about 14.5" long. It also works as a tunic top for taller toddlers & girls & if you fold the neck peice inside (or skip it) it makes a great skirt for bigger toddlers, girls, teens & adults too. It is a perfect light weight summer peice! I plan on making a matching yoga waist shorts tutorial out of the sleeves too... so check back soon!

T-shirt Summer Dress or Shirt or Skirt :) Tutorial

Supplies:

XL mens t-shirt that stretches both ways (pull collar & bottom & then pull under both armpits... it should stretch all ways) you can use smaller & bigger shirts... a mens XL with make a dress for a 1-2yr old, a tunic top for most 2-10 or 12yr olds & a skirt for a toddler, girl, teen or adult! Jersey knit cotton is ideal.

3/8" elastic 18-20"

Pins

Safety Pins

Scissors

Thread

Sewing Machine or Serger

And of course an adorable little monkey to try it on :)

STEP 1: Take your t-shirt & cut it all the way across right below the armpits...

STEP 2A: On the top remain part of the shirt cut out your neck piece... this is a rectangle that is 2" wide & as long as you need to pull over your little ones head! For most 15"-18" should be more then long enough (remember it will stretch). If you are just making a skirt you can skip this & all neckband steps!

STEP 2B OPTIONAL: If you have a serger you can now finish the short ends of your neck peice & the top raw edge of the dress body. This just gives is a little more professional look. If not its okay!!!!! Knit does not need to be finished as it does not unravel!

STEP 3: Fold your long neck piece in half with the 'right' side (outside side of the t-shirt) is touching each other inside... you should now have a long 1" piece... you know want to sew a 1/4 seam the full length to form a tube. This MUST be a stretch stitch... sergers work best, but most sewing machines have a stretch stitch... & if not you can use a narrow semi-long zig zag stitch... all 3 will work fine. You then want to turn the tube right side out so that the seam is inside & you have a long tube...

STEP 4: You know want to grab the bottom of the t-shirt that we are turning into the body of the dress. You want to fold the top edge in about 3/4 of an inch & pin... this is to create the casing... you want to do this all the way around the shirt.

STEP 5: Sewing the casing! You will want to sew about 1/2 for what will be the 'top' of the dress... this will make a 1/2 casing to hold the 3/8" elastic. Make sure to start by the side seam from the tee as it will now be the side seam on the dress. You want to leave about a 1" opening at the side seam so you can feed the elastic through. This is done on a regular sewing machine with your stitch length set at 4 or longer.

STEP 6: Find the center front of the dress... I do this by grabbing the 2 side seams & folding in half & marking the top edge... then transfer the mark onto the inside of the casing.

STEP 7: The neckband... this is when you need to bribe your assistant with a banana cookie so you can safety pin it & test it over their head! You want it to fit over their head but still be short enough to allow for good front coverage. If you child has a really big head you can add a button hole at one end & a button at the other... you then only attach the end with the button to the dress. When you get the sizing right pin it to the front middle of your dress on the INSIDE of the dress (note you see the casing)

STEP 8: Now take it to your sewing machine & sew it in the same place as your casing seam, & then sew at the very top edge as closed to the edge as you can... you only need to sew a few inches, just make sure to back stitch on both ends! I used brown thread so you can easily see the seams on the back side...

STEP 9: Feed your elastic through! This is where the safety pins come in handy again. Then this time you bribe the little monkey with some water melon so you can test it out & get the elastic adjusted just right! I cut 20" of elastic & when I sewed my elastic together I had a 1" seam allowance so my finished dress is 18" wide at the elastic. The dress fits my skinny 11.5 month old twins... who wear a 6/9 month width, but it stretches to fit me as a SKIRT! It could easily fit a 32" waist. I just used the cheap soft stuff from Wal-Mart. Anyways once you feed the elastic through you sew the 2 ends together where ever you want it to fit. Then trim the excess elastic leaving about a 1/4 inch tail & push it back inside. Now you need to pull the gathers out of the way... & sew the casing closed! I have also found that to keep the elastic from twisting or the end lump from floating around I like to run a quick stitch on the side seam up to the top edge (see photos below)

Thats it YOUR DONE!

Even with a paperless workflow system we end up doing a fair amount of physical shipping. One thing that helps to cut down significantly on shipping material costs and needless waste is reusing shipping and packing materials that are sent to the agency.

Realizing that there may still be a stigmatism around reusing materials (people may feel that it makes them look cheap, or unprofessional) I found a simple way around it. Just print some large, clear labels that say REUSE with the recycle icon and stick one on all outgoing packages. Stick one on any that can be reused for that matter. This will let people know that you are intentionally reusing materials. Rather than leave a negative impression it will do the opposite. People will see that you are a progressive, environmentally-conscious organization.

At the same time the sticker will encourage others to reuse the materials again and again.

An article in the Seattle Times this past Wednesday claims that Starbucks' vice president of corporate social responsibility "knows it's an issue" that the company's coffee cups are single-use disposable trash that can't be recycled.

The company's 2.5 billion paper cups used in North American stores last year contain 10% post consumer waste (PCW) recycled fiber content, and the cup sleeves contain 60% PCW content; both attributes are improvements considering that the cups used to be 100% virgin and "double-cupping" was a common wasteful practice that was mostly made obsolete by the sleeves.

But the cups are still lined with plastic, and that makes them non-recyclable. There are new coffee cups on the market, like the ecotainer (which I wrote about here), that replace that plastic lining with a starch-based material, which makes them compostable. But a compostable cup does not compost make. Just like a 'recyclable' aluminum can has to actually be recycled in order to gain the benefit of its recycability, so a compostable cup needs to enter a composting system in order to realize its environmental advantages. That's a bit of a challenge since composting infrastructure is fairly limited in the U.S.

However, it is certainly possible to arrange composting services independently, and there is a growing number of compostable products: food serviceware, garbage liners, and packaging products. The Biodegradable Products Institute website lists all the companies with products that meet the BPI standard for compostability. Only products that meet these standards are allowed to display the BPI logo (seen here at top). Composting is a heady matter, requiring specific conditions regarding light, temperature and moisture. In other words, simply tossing a cup in landfill and waiting decades or centuries for it to degrade doesn't count.

My prediction is that government will eventually provide composting services the same way it now offers recycling services in many places. Meanwhile, I like the approach taken by Higher Grounds (my co-bloggers here at BeanActivist). They simply don't offer disposable cups. Instead, if you forget to bring your own reusable mug, they'll give you one! That's right, they'll give you a ceramic mug to takeaway. How can they afford that? Simple answer: craigslist. They post want ads for free coffee mugs on craigslist. Imagine all the tacky, unloved mugs stuffing cupboards across America, like that "bottoms-up" mug you received at your bachelor party from your high school buddy. Now imagine someone who is willing to take them away from you for free and put them to good use. It's simply brilliant.

Don't expect Starbucks to attempt this novel approach any time soon. They are currently experimenting with the compostable variety so we'll have to see what happens.

The current recycling plan here in Austin is called curbside recycling. It’s a mess, currently

The current recycling plan here in Austin is called curbside recycling. It's a mess, currently, we can only recycle #1 and #2 plastic bottles (no other shapes or forms of plastic), glass, metal cans, cardboard (no paperboard), and paper. However, the "rules" for recycling are complicated, cardboard has to be cut to 2' x 2' squares and bundled together with string or twine, paper has to go into a separate bin from the glass, metal and plastic. You almost have to have a degree in science to figure out what you can and cannot recycle.

Starting in October we are going to "Single Stream" Recycling, that is we are going to get a big blue plastic cart that we can put all of our recycling in. And now its going to be all cardboard, paper, metal, glass jar's and bottles, and all types of rigid plastics #1 through #7. This is going to be a huge improvement over the current plan.

It used to be that I never wonder what happened to the things I put in the recycling bin. The men came every Wednesday, dumped the bins into the truck and off it went. I slept easy knowing that I was doing as much as I could to recycle. The truth is somewhat different now that I've done some reading and research. After it gets to the recycling center here, it's all sorted into different piles according to what it is. If the items are contaminated by whatever- food or other waste, chemicals, etc. it's sent to the landfill. Let's look at a couple of the things that are shipped out of the center.

Scrap Paper - This is your old newspapers, junk mail, catalogs and such. According to the March 10, 2008 Paper Stock Report, US domestic demand for scrap paper in December 2007 was around 2.8 million tons, this is paper that is reused within the US for what ever purpose. Exports of scrap paper for the same month were 2.6 million tons, this is paper that the US exports for whatever reason to a foreign country, and the biggest buyer of the scrap paper? China. That's right millions of tons of scrap paper is exported to China for recycling and re-use. However a portion of that paper is rejected for whatever reasons and is either put into a landfill there or burned. China takes our scrap paper, reuses it for cardboard, paper, or pulp packaging, puts whatever item in it , and exports it to the store down the street, where we buy whatever gadget we need.

Metals - The same thing happens to metal, its sorted into types then either reused domestically or exported. I don't have firm numbers on the amounts, but one report I've read says that 95,414 short tons of non-ferrous scrap was shipped in February. By the way this metal is used to make the cases, screws to make the items packed in the boxes made from the paper above.

I now wonder how much it costs to transport all this material. Is the energy saved by recycling so great that the costs in diesel, and fuel oil for the trucks, trains and ships to transport this material halfway around the globe is offset? What about the emissions from the above vehicles along with whatever emissions the recycling plant puts out? Especially in a country that does not seem to have very strong environmental laws. Would it make more sense environmentally and economically to reprocess it here in the US then export the material?

I don't know the answers to the above but I know, I'll still be putting out the recycling every week.

While watching the morning TV program, the wife said that the white painted mantel would look good in another color. So I suggested peach. Why peach you ask? Herein lies the thesis for discussion, recycling.

Here in Houston the community is beginning to think Green, which is another color. Every emphasis is on recycling, and ways to conserve on energy, ironically in the countries epicenter of energy thinking. Houston is known for its use of energy, since it is the second largest city in the US, yes, interms of size, second only to Oklahoma city, which stretches many miles in all direction. Houstonian uses a lot of gas, go everywhere to get nowhere, as explemplifed by the evacuation efforts from the last hurricane storm.

Now the problem comes back to haunt them and they are making an attempt to save, recycle via turning in old computers, newspaper , and right paint.

At the recycle center, one can go and get free paint, sometimes he has a choice of color. These are good paint that have been discarded due to choice of color. So what is one man's trash is another man's treasure. I found the color I liked and brought it home to my mantel.

The moral here is: go search and you shall find.

Every week on garbage night and on garbage morning, we s

I'm not sure what this says about me.

Every week on garbage night and on garbage morning, we see people (OK, not herds of people, but it is more than a couple) wandering around the neighborhood with plastic bags, going through everyone's recycle bins (I don't think they get into the garbage bins) and taking out returnable glass and cans.

This really bothers me.

Am I feeling possessive about my garbage? I mean, I'm throwing it away. If I felt possessive about it, wouldn't I keep it? And it's not like I feel as if they're stealing money from me, because I chose not to take the cans and bottles to get the deposit back myself - in essence, when I bought those beverages, I did it knowing that I would be out $0.05 per drink because I believe that the time I would spend standing at the machine processing the returns is worth more to me than the $1.20 I would get back; and that the space the returns would take up in my garage until I got around to doing it is more valuable taken up with the bags of books I save to take over to Powells.

So why does it bother me? Is it my middle-class sensibilities offended by seeing people going through garbage? The people I see are carrying a couple medium-sized garbage bags and walking through the neighborhood, so presumably they live very near by, and so are middle-class also. While some of them are elderly Asian women, there are definitely some younger Caucasians doing it also, and it bugs me when I see anyone doing it - so whatever it is, it isn't just latent racism rearing its ugly head (in our society, I suspect that it is nearly impossible for a white person (or a person of any other race) to have completely escaped absorbing the prejudicial thought-patterns that are showered upon us in pretty much every medium available).

Is it because I suspect that the people doing this live in this area, and thus are living with means that should preclude them from needing to collect those stupid deposits? I mean, unless you collect *huge* amounts of returnables, collecting the few that wastrels like myself toss into the recycle once a week is hardly going to help someone pay the mortgage, or even buy them a meal out.

Is it that they make me feel guilty for being so lazy as to not bother returning them myself?

Or is it feeling "invaded", as if someone is getting into something that belongs to me (when, actually, I don't own the recycle bin, it belongs to Waste Management - they're just lending it to me. Hey - do you think they feel possessive about us using it?). Am I feeling as if someone is stealing something from me? (See note about "I'm throwing it away").

Tonight, I saw a woman getting into a neighbor's recycle bin, and even that bothered me, so it's not just that I'm feeling possessive of *my* garbage - I'm feeling possessive about my neighbor's garbage, too!

Ultimately, the returns are going to make it into the same place, just through different routes; and this is not only benefiting the collectors in some small way, but it is saving the recycle company the bother of having to haul and sort the stuff. What's the problem?

So it bothers me that this bothers me - in part, at least, because I don't understand why it bothers me.

I guess I would make a poor communist...

I apologize for not giving you a well written, thoughtful, poignant, post today. But…it

I apologize for not giving you a well written, thoughtful, poignant, post today. But...it's Friday. And since I write my posts the day before I post them (usually) that means that it's Grey's Anatomy/LOST night here at my place. Most of my evening is taken up by television so that doesn't leave me a lot of time to come up with a witty and meaningful post. And truth be told, I'm saving my really good stuff for when my blog finally gets popular. Kidding.

I'm just going to chat about a few things that are on my mind at this moment.

LOST was so good tonight. Next Thursday is the 2 hour season finale! Grey's was good too, but LOST has taken the number one spot on my TV list. And I really like this time zone here in Houston. We are Central time which means the television shows come on an hour earlier. So instead of having to wait until nine o'clock to watch LOST, I get to watch it at 8 p.m.

There's a guy in Michigan who's walking across the state in stilts to raise money for Cerebral Palsy. I guess the longer the legs you have the more ground you can cover.

My granola crunching sister pointed me to this great video about how Americans are over-consuming our resources away and steps that everyone can do to help. It's about 20 minutes long, but I really like how the whole process is explained in lay mans terms and crisp graphics. See what happens to all that crap that we don't need, but buy anyway. Check it our here: http://www.storyofstuff.com/

And since I love my granola crunching sister, I'm going to point her and all of you to another interesting website. I saw these folks on the news and knew she would dig them. This family of four grows everything that they consume on their 5th of an acre in the suburbs of LA. Anything they don't eat, they sell. It made me want to go plant some crops or at least get a tomato plant. Here's there website: http://pathtofreedom.com/

I think I have the world's first litter trained dog. Remeber my recent post about the new "dog proof" litterbox? Well, it apparently wasn't dog proof enough. Hurley was missing for a minute and when I called him he came running out of the laundry room which is where the cat's litterbox is. I went in there to check it out and there was fresh poo in there. It wasn't buried and could possibly/maybe be Hurley's poo. WTF!!!!??? I don't want him to poo/pee in the house. Not even in the litterbox. This is just bizarro!

I also have an insane cat. Who made me want to kill someone Thursday morning when I was trying to get my beauty sleep. Ok...we keep Hurley in a crate during the night in the bedroom. We keep the doors closed so that the cat doesn't come into the room. Hurley starts whining and barking when he sees the cat when he is locked up like a furry, litte prisoner. And she seriously taunts him when he's locked up. So...for the past few mornings I've been rudely awakened by the cat meowing, Loudly outside the bedroom door. I layed in bed waiting for this to stop and hoping that T would be bothered enough to get out of bed and do something about it. But NO-he just pretended to sleep for the next hour. I attempted to swat the cat with a shoe, but she just kept coming back! She wants to sleep on the bed, but I don't want Hurley to bark all night. Tonight we're going to put Hurley (in his crate) in the bathroom. That way the cat can come into the bedroom and Hurley won't see her taunting him. Why can't we just all get along?

Wal-Mart is doing a deal where you can cash your stimulus checks for free! I think banks do that too, right!? But then again, you can't buy cheap, imported, unnecessary goods at banks.

Speaking of global warming/Earth/recycling, you should rent The 11th Hour. It's a movie that has experts talking about our planet and how we are destroying it at an alarming rate. I liked this more than Al Gore's video because it was less about fancy charts and colorful graphs and more conversational and relatable. And there were some good things mentioned that we can all do to help. And it's narrated by my other boyfriend, Leonardo DiCaprio. Seriously, if you aren't recycling then shame on you. It's the least you could do-so......do it! And don't use paper plates anymore either.

I think we may go to the movies this weekend and watch the new Narnia movie, Prince Caspian. The first one was awesome, so this has to be good. Indiana Jones looks good too. I love the first ones and I'm so glad that Harrison Ford is still Indiana and I also love that my other other boyfriend Shia LeBeouf is in it!

And.........that's the end of my randomness! Happy freakin' Friday yall!

And just cuz-a sneezing panda video:

Pandas are the cutest bears! It's those little black teddy-bear ears that they have.

When I was in middle school I found out about Navy Showers and partook in them occasionally. Go ahead, imagine away. What on earth is a Navy Shower? Yes ... they're all that at more. Kidding! Check the link. They've since been rediscovered, resurrected and incorporated into my mostly daily routine.

Similarly I've rediscovered biking, and luckily one of the lesser positive aspects of the job I now have was that it was close enough to bike to. Ten minutes. So I bike at least three days a week out of the four I work. I figured it was damn dumb to hop in the car for 4 minutes rather than biking for 10. Does wonders for my legs too. The roads have hills!

Furthermore, I:

Recycle every damn thing possible. Even plasticware from restaurants that would otherwise be thrown away.

Recycle old electronics via Office Depot and local city/county programs

Compost

Feel guilty when I have to drive, so I attempt to consolidate trips

Keep the A/C around 78

There are many unforgettable memories in my life. The most significant memory I always recall is the experience of joining the Roots and Shoots (R&S).

This group is instituted by Doctor Jane Goodall. She is a famous researcher who studies chimpanzees. “R&S is an international hands-on environmental and humanitarian education program, with the goal of creating positive change—for our communities, for animals and for the environment.”

Although we could not solve such a big pollution problem, we can start from every little things. I joined this group 4 years ago and struggled to understand how to best protect our environment. As a member of Green Piece Group, we collected wastes regularly, such as discard bottle and newspapers, and then recycled them. At the same time, other two members and I started to advocate students to use packages and bags instead of plastic packages. Although we did not succeed at the first, the proposa; was accepted by most students finally by combining it with other strategies.

Due to good performance of works, my school presented me with the outstanding delegates to be awarded by Jane Goodall. I believed that this experience will benefit my future because I possess the desire to protect our planet.

These collages are what I call "Painting with Paper,"and they are incredibly fun to do. These are all fairly complex examples, but one can create very simple collages with this technique also. When I see paper, especially gorgeous colors from magazine photos- I think "COLOR! Tear-up! Piece together!" What a way to recycle.

Waste management is the collection, transport, processing, recycling or disposal of waste materials.

Waste management is the collection, transport, processing, recycling or disposal of waste materials. The term usually relates to materials produced by human activity, and is generally undertaken to reduce their effect on health, the environment or aesthetics. Waste management is also carried out to reduce the materials' effect on the environment and to recover resources from them. Waste management can involve solid, liquid, gaseous or radioactive substances, with different methods and fields of expertise for each.

Waste management practices differ for developed and developing nations, for urban and rural areas, and for residential and industrial, producers. Management for non-hazardous residential and institutional waste in metropolitan areas is usually the responsibility of local government authorities, while management for non-hazardous commercial and industrial waste is usually the responsibility of the generator.

SM Supermarkets are giving two pints in your SM Advantage Card when you used their Green Bag in your groceries. But the problem is, do people care earning an SM Advantage Card points wherein their SM Advantage Card program seems to be a flop? Will people care bringing these bags every time they will go to grocery if they knew that there are too many plastic bags available in the counter?

In my observation, I estimated that 1 out of 50 individuals are and most likely will be participating in their GreenBag program. It is because of the convenience of not bringing the bags anymore every time that they will groceries. Remember that people in the Philippines do not just go to the mall to purchase groceries. Often they do other activities first (movies, dining, strolling, spa, etc.) in malls before they end up to the supermarket. Many also have special interest in plastic bags because they will use it as garbage bag plastic lining at home.

I am making my own cleaning products (hello vinegar and water. And baking soda), or buying some of the Method products. I love the Seventh Generation lavender and mint dishsoap, and IT WORKS too. I especially like the eucalyptus/mint shower cleaner. I also recycling everything I possible can, reducing waste, and going grocery shopping with reusable bags. I try to buy organic dairy and chicken, along with whatever else isn't ridiculously expensive (that really narrows it down!). I use shampoo/soap for my daughter that is "all natural" and chemical free.

Although some of the CFC free light bulbs are funky looking, emit a high pitched obnoxious noise when turned on, and are more expensive, I am using them. As my bulbs go out, I replace them with the new greenorama bulbs.

I walk around the house unplugging or turning things off ALL DAY and night. Our electric bill isn't much different, but whatever. I am DOING MY PART.

So now I am waiting for a BANG BOOM POW or something to tell me that I am doing a good job, that I am doing things right, or that this is actually working.

See? Going Green Makes Me Happy!

Recently, in Our Time classes, children experimented with home-made drums and other instruments. I was amazed at the creativity of some of the families that could take an ordinary coffee can and turn it into a work of art - covered with handprints and stickers - as well as a functional instrument. Often, we are tempted to purchase the latest and greatest toy for our children. Still, using found objects not only saves money, but it stimulates your child's imagination. An empty cereal box can be a drum, a house, a tunnel, and much more. So, play along with your favorite tune and this time, why not use a plastic bowl and wooden spoon! What is most important is that you are spending time together and enjoying a musical experience. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
