So lets get started!!! First of all you want to open up Photoshop.  (Duh :P ) Here is the original photo that I am going to work on...

Ok now the first thing that you are going to do is zoom in ok the photo so that you can work easily on the face.  Click on the healing brush tool and minimize the size of it to relatively small (you can adjust the size of the brush using the [ and ] keys.  Now you want to remove distracting blemishes and imperfections on the skin by pressing alt and clicking on a shade of the skin that is similiar to the area you are perfecting. 

Now the next step is to go up to Layer and click.  Go down to New and over to select Layer.  Once you have this new layer you want to select the Brush tool.  Once you've selected that you want to enable Airbrush.  The airbrush option is a botton that looks like a pen with a squigly line.  It is located at the top of the screen to the right of Flow.  Once you've selected that you want to lower your Opacity to about 18 or 19% (feel free to set your own opacity if you're not satisfied with the result you're getting).  Now for the Airbrush you're going to was a relatively big brush.  Now select similiar shaded areas (like you did with the healing brush) and swoop the brush across the face in little swoops.  You're going to want to do this around most of  the face, avoiding the eyes and getting into the hair  and such.  Don't worry too much about getting into those area's though because you can fix that in the next step.

Now you are going to go back up to Layer and click.  Go down to Add Layer Mask and go over to select Reveal All.  Make sure you are still on the Airbrush mode and then reduce the size the size of the brush to about the size of an eraser or a little smaller.  Press the \ button on your keyboard.  Now you you want to outline around the face that you don't want the airbrush to effect.  Raise the opacity back up to about 80% or so and outline around the hair that is around the face, the nostrils, eyes, eyebrows, mouth and clothes if you airbrushed on ther neck or any other place.  It should be a red color as you outline.  It's fun because they will end up looking like demons!  LoL

Once you've finshed outlining, you are going to click off of the white Layer of Layer one and click the gray and white checkered Layer one that is to the left of the layer you just outlined on. Notice up on the above pictures the layer tab.  Thats where you want to click.  Now you want to go up to Filter and go down to Noise and go over to select add noise.  If you raise the noise all the way you you should easily be able to see everywhere that you airbrushed.  You want to add about 5% or 6% to the photo to bring a little texture back into the face to match the rest of the photo otherwise your model might start to look like a doll.  So now you're done!! At least with my method.  So hear is our finished product....

As usual I will give you comparison between original photo and my editing photo: (If you think the result is bad or not important, you can skip this tutorial)

Original photo in the left, and photo after my editing in the right side. You also can see this photo in my flickr. I need to mention that this photo isn't captured by me - you can see original photo taken by Benson74 in here. About the girl, her name was Nikki (I like her big eyes and cute face) - you can see her original web here. Original photo is taken indoor, I think most of indoor photography needs light more - if the light isn't sufficient the photo looked underexposure and flat. Anyway you can do post processing to fill the light, to make the photo looked better. I don't want to talk about this basic post processing because in this tutorial I just want to write about retouching. Basic explanation (sorry if I am wrong) - retouching is process to make our photo become better, for example in your photo maybe the model skin isn't good then you smooth the skin and it looks better - something like that. If you want to know more about retouching, you can find in google @@. In my tutorial I will limited retouching only for skin (smoothing skin), different people has different technique to edit the photo. It is not necessary to said which technique is the best because the technique without ability to use it - it means nothing (that's what I said). Example: you have Canon 1Ds Mark III, but you don't know how to take a photo..... it's nothing, right?

My idea to retouch the skin is based on blurring the image. You need to have Photoshop CS 2 or CS 3 because my technique needs some filters in Photoshop CS 2 and CS 3. You need to know Smart Blur and Surface Blur, these blurs filter are a little bit different with Gaussian Blur. You can use these smart blur and surface blur combination to smooth the skin. You can try to change the input value in smart blur and surface blur then see the result. Because this method will blur the image totally - some parts maybe looked unrealistic / cartoon so you need to masking some parts. After you happy with the final result you can save the photo. I think use this effect faster than use conventional retouching method - but like I said before - the technique without ability to use it - means nothing. Sorry this tutorial not very clear - I just give the clue, if you still interesting using this kind of method you also can read this. His way a little bit different with me, but general idea is the same. You also can see my other retouching picture in here, hope you like it.

To break the spell of aging

Make-up has been around for what seems like forever. Its purpose for the young is to look more mature or attractive. Its purpose for the old is to look younger and appealing. But now both the young and old are looking for more extreme ways to obtain that “perfect look”. Obsession for looking “hot” has brought us to tamper with the way God has made us. We no longer look our own person, but like someone else. Plastic surgeons offer the cure for the "hideous" faces of average citizens. For what price? In exchange for some thousand dollars is all. Results? Gaining the long pursued look of perfection, and having tainted the appearance God sent you to this world with. Surgery now seems like a salvation to those who see themselves as “hideous”. It gives them that idea that they have found the way to ‘break the spell of aging’. The saying “you’re perfect in God’s eyes” holds less and less influence and consolation to the ever evolving morals of the new generation.

In all reality it's completely impossible to look like the models, actors, and artists on the magazine covers. It is true that hours upon hours are spent to manually inhance the image of the cover model, but what isn't revealed are the technical or virtual enhances that add that "perfect touch".  It must be realized that the photos taken of the cover models must be put on a computer to get the magazine out to the masses. All it takes to produce a "perfect" face is the usage of an application called PhotoShop. This little marvel allows the user to manipulate any photo, any way they see fit. The computer techies of the magazines use this application to create the "perfect" face that is plainly impossible to achieve due to the fact that a computer did it. In fact, 99% of magazine cover faces recieve the "perfect touch" to reduce blemishes, body fat, wrinkles, unsightly marks...

Retouch solo sugli occhi. Cambio del colore, allungamento ciglia, e makeup.

Per prima cosa ho reso più chiara l'intera immagine. Sono poi passata alla pelle, rendendola meno porosa, e dandole un colorito migliore. Ho cambiato il colore degli occhi da neri a verdi, e la forma delle sopracciglia. Infine ho reso il labbro superiore leggermente più carnoso e l'intera bocca più rossa.

Retouch abbastanza basilare. La saturazione dell'immagine è stata aumentata, in modo da renderla meno piatta e grigia. La pelle è stata poi resa più liscia.

Come al solito la pelle è stata resa più liscia, e libera da imperfezioni, soprattutto le occhiaie. Il colore delle labbra è stato reso più rosso. L'intera immagine è ora più chiara e i colori sono meno tendenti al grigio, soprattutto per la pelle.

La pelle è stata resa più liscia, togliendo le imperfezioni (pori dilatati, brufoletti e occhiaie). Il trucco è stato reso leggermente più pesante sugli occhi, mentre le labbra sono ora più rosate. 

E' stato poi cambiato il colore degli occhi da neri a blu scuro.

Primo retouch che ho fatto. La pelle è stata lisciata, il colorito reso meno tendente al rosso, e i dettagli di viso, vestito, e collana sono stati resi più nitidi.
